About this cottage rental
This is a wonderfully unique property in the ultra quaint fishing village of Corea, Maine.
The Boathouse is a weather-grey shingled, rustic two-story structure that sits squarely on a fishing wharf in the heart of the village of Corea. Our family purchased the Boathouse in 1970 and it was renovated in 1977 my late dad, Victor Christ-Janer who was an internationally recognized architect with a love for the simple life.
The Boathouse has 180 degree views of the harbor from the sun drenched upstairs kitchen and dining area. Read a book or watch the boats come and go from the harbor on the gated outdoor wharf deck and listen to the tide come in underneath your feet!
You can easily walk, jog or bike your way around the harbor. Bring a camera or a sketchbook - there is a photo-op every ten steps! Explore off the beaten path side roads, rock walking, discover the sunny beach which gives way to the sandbar that will take you to an island exploration at low tide, pick wild blueberries or buy a bucket of lobster at boat-side prices from the Corea Co-op.
People come to Corea (once called Indian Harbor) for the slow pace yet discover that restaurants, snack bars, grocery shopping, 5 & 10 are all a scenic 10-minute drive away. Nearby Winter Harbor is home to the Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park. Drive or bike the 8-mile loop road. Hike one of several trails to the top of Schoodic Point.
Feed the gulls and watch the waves crash on the rocky coast with Mt. Desert Island in the background.
For a longer excursion, you are 30 minutes from Ellsworth for large shopping centers, big box stores, pharmacies, more great food. Corea is about 50-60 minute ride over to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. If the little ones need distraction, the road from Ellsworth towards Bar Harbor is your answer. Mini-golf, scenic airplane rides, a small animal preserve to name a few will fit the bill. Shop, eat, whale watch, hike, climb, swim. It’s all there on at Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island.
The Boathouse offers the vacationer casual, well appointed lodging at budget prices, with easy access to a whole lot of relaxation!

Great place to relax and enjoy the harbor view.

We loved the boat house. It has everything you need and the location gave us an up close look at a real working lobster fishing village. We met locals who were very anxious to talk about their village and offer suggestions for activities. We enjoyed just sitting on the deck watching the boats in the harbor and walking to the beach by the bay. Katherine, our host was so nice and available to answer any questions. We would definitely visit again.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Boathouse. It was equipped with everything we needed and offered magnificent views of the harbor. Our daughter and her family visited overnight from Wells, and the waterfront deck was a perfect play area for our young grandson. All of us took the Winter Harbor ferry to Bar Harbor, spotting an eagle, seals and lighthouses. The captain even let our 2 yr. old grandson skipper the boat! Made his day! Schoodic Point and the park were incredibly beautiful and, unlike Mt. Desert Island, there were no crowds or parking problems. Lobster from the co-op and lunch at the Pickled Wrinkle were exceptional. We would love to return next fall.

It was very comfortable with plenty of room. . .lots of space for board games, puzzles, etc. loved the lobster boats view out the bayside windows. We grilled chicken one night on the deck and enjoyed the ambiance!
Thank you for such a lovely, restful, Maine visit!

If you enjoy simple living, you have just found a little corner of paradise in Northern New England/Down East Maine. This is a spot where beauty abounds: a converted boathouse on a picturesque working fishing harbor with barrier islands beyond...The opportunities to enjoy nature in this area are boundless, so you will be busy, as we were taking advantage of all that was available. Now, if you are someone who needs all the amenities of modern living (cable TV, high-speed internet...it's there, just spotty, lots of gadgets and appliances) this place is not for you, pay more for someplace much less idyllic. Two tips for the wise:bring ear plugs - the harbor gets active at 3 am some mornings and it's noisy. Second, buy lobster at the co-op, and get the shedders. You will be happy, like us!

It was a good place for us since we were spending our days out in nature. Though it was an hour drive to acadia National park we could easily do it. No frills but we wanted to on the water, that was why we wanted it. The property manager was very nice and helpful.

Lovely village, great walks. Rental a bit rustic but charming. Great views. There should be a welcoming packet with directions for trash removal, where to leave thermostat settings and who to contact if you get accidentally locked out.

We love Corea and the Boathouse is perched on a wharf right on the harbor. Lobster boats right out front, Lunch on the Wharf right nearby and tons of nature things to do all within easy reach. The house is nicely appointed and convenient to Schoodic Point national park, hiking trails, bird watching and much more. It is a two story house and there are stairs.

Great base for an outside week; hiking, biking, etc. Had everything we needed to recover from busy days and plan the next one. Quiet uncomplicated location. Loved it. Ceilings are low.

The cottage was very clean and had great views from most windows.
One is able to sit on the back decking area to watch the busy working harbor.
I recommend bringing collapsible chairs with umbrella shades attached. This will allow you to enjoy the view longer on a very sunny day .We love to bike and enjoyed going out to Cranberry Point and around the harbor. One can also take the ferry from WH to BH. Enjoyed the very quaint Lobster Pound lunch next door. Only open during lunch.
The Lobster boats.leave early in the AM but did not bother us.
We will come back. Corea is quintessential Maine.

This was not a real house boat ,but was attached to a wharf .Disappointed with the dirty rugs, dust webs on the window sills, only one set of sheets, and 3 face clothes were available to us. Very noisy at 4am with the lobstermen.Yes we knew this was on a working dock but just did not expect the stacking of lobster pots to start at 4am till 8am.This bothered my husband the most being on vacation, no curtains for back door so it made it very hot during day and the lock did not work and was falling out.The trash was not picked up and the animals made a mess. The view was beautiful and it was very quite
at night .
