The cost and the location.
The shower was too small. The microwave was unusable. Trying to watch TV was a joke,it kept freezing and going black!

great location - perfect is you’re heading anywhere up or down the 395 and right across the street from the delicious walker burger. great outdoor space to relax and hang out.
rooms were disappointing for the price point. understandable that we stayed there during peak summer hours but it still seemed to not justify the price. bed was not very comfortable and we were missing a fridge in our room even though that was listed on the amenities when booking. thankfully the housekeeper unlocked the adjoining room so we could utilize that fridge but it just seemed to lack basic amenities that should be accounted for.

Beautifully restored motel. Beds were comfortable, bathroom incredible!
Since it's summer, it's ant season. Could have done without the ants.

The manager was amazingly helpful!

The room was comfortable and clean. There was a microwave, refrigerator, and nice size TV. The bathroom has a really big walk-in shower, a lighted mirror, and good amenities. It was easy to get into the room with a lock code.
I tried tcall the phone number listed in the reservation email to let someone know that we were running later than expected, but the call was not answered. There were no coffee cups in the room. There was a note with a phone number to call, but it was not answered and the voicemail was not set up to leave a message. It was impossible to speak with anyone at any phone number listed.
There were a bunch of broken tree limbs on the ground right in front of the walkway to the room and a broken limb hanging from the tree above the walkway which made it difficult and somewhat dangerous to get into the room. The sidewalk to the room was not cleared of snow.

I like the room set up for my family of 4 , nice & clean room & nicely remodel.

Modern and clean bathroom, easy to park.
Outside area very untidy and felt overlooked from the back windows, curtains covered the air con. No curtain on windows in doors as well made us feel overlooked. Room was clean but the bedding felt grubby, makeup marks on pillow cases. Very overpriced for what it is.

The bed and bathroom were newly renovated, and nice and comfortable. Pleasant decor
The exterior was not renovated and in a run down state, with renovation materials around, old cars etc

The location was excellent for a trip into Yosemite and the restaurant across the road was also excellent. The room was lovely and comfy and we had a lovely relaxing evening- thanks.

some new furnishings were nice (light and bathroom mirror)
just down the road we stayed for $75 less and they had a garden, and ice machine, and were welcoming. Room was dark.

the bathroom is big and clean.
Bed sheets and pillowcases were smelly, and it did not wash. I found many hairs and dirt on the bed. I put a towel on the pillow and slept because it is smelly.

Walker, California is a small, quiet fishing town on highway 395. I have stayed here several times at other motels in Walker but this is the first time at the West Walker Motel under the new management.
The “Historic West Walker Motel” is listed by it’s owners as a “5-Star” Motel. Nothing could be further from the truth. At best, I would give it two stars and that would be extremely generous. It is a borderline section 8 motel. I made my booking on booking.com for Sunday, September 5. I received emails confirming my reservation but never a check-in time. When I inquired about the check-in time the person I spoke to on the phone told me but also informed me there was nobody on-site to handle my check-in and I should have gotten an email with details about my room number and the door access code to get in. When I told them I hadn’t received that information they provided an email with that information. I arrived at 4:15 pm at the property to my room and input the door code I was provided and “voila” there was somebody still staying in the room who hadn’t vacated it. I asked a neighboring tenant if she knew of anyone around who could help me with my problem and she directed me to a little cabin where she said the room cleaner stayed. I knocked on the door but nobody was around but there was a phone number on the door to call management. I called the number that was located in the Los Angeles area and I spoke to a man who said he was the property manager. He said he would make some phone calls and would get back to me. In ten minutes he called me back and said he wasn’t able to contact anyone who could help me out. So, I said what am I to do at this late time, on a holiday weekend for a place to stay and he just said “ I am really sorry but he didn’t know” and he left it at that. When I told him that I wanted a complete refund he agreed to that but when I asked for compensation for my trouble he ignored me. This is a serious warning for anyone considering staying at the “Historic West Walker Motel”. There is nobody on-site to help handle any issues that may come up.

Upon arrival it was easy to access the room with the provided code via email. The room was very clean and well prepared for our stay. The bathroom was vary spacious. The feeling of nostalgia was very abundant.
The room was very cramped. It was manageable, however with two adults and two teens it was difficult to work with our luggage and any extras we had for our trip. The biggest disappointment was the window unit air conditioner being directly at the head of the main bed. The only solution that helped was laying with our head at the foot of the bed. Definitely was not worth $236 a night...

Pretty from the outside...
Room is poorly designed with random posters about Australia around. Carpet is stained, poorly installed, and not vacuumed. Bathroom floors are badly done laminate squares. In window ac with a piece of cardboard in the gap. Paint on hardware in the bathroom, shower only is poorly installed. More hotel residents than guests. No office to check in so no one to take issues to. Would never have continued our stay if there had been vacancy somewhere else.

A nice clean motel within walking distance of all local attractions.
No complaints.

I was running behind but they were able to accommodate. They moved me over to a tiny home in the back and the tiny home is adorable. I loved it.

We loved that there was a refrigerator and microwave. We also loved all the extra pillows on the bed and extra towels in the bathroom.
It's an older motel but they keep things very clean.

Checking in was easy, I was emailed the door combo in advance.
I had low expectations knowing this was a 2-star motel. However, it was not clean inside or outside. There was garbage on the ground outside. Inside, the carpets were dirty, I didn't want to take my socks off.

Loved that they took Social Distancing seriously. They texted me the code to get into the room and that was it. Easy peasy. Room was spotless which is always important, and it's right across the street from a great BBQ place.
No complaints whatsoever.
