Nice cottages, great views, friendly staff, pet friendly
Would’ve appreciated having a hot tub and/or heated pool

The location above the Pacific on the splendid Mendocino Coast deserves a spectacular room and property. Unfortunately, Heritage House is no longer up to that standard.
After 30 years of visits to Heritage House we just returned from what sadly will be our last visit - it is faded glory. Both the room and the service were well below par. This property needs a complete update now. The room was fabulously expensive at over $700 per night - but the room had become worn out and sad. The sheets were of poor quality as was the mattress. See the accompanying picture. An old sofa and one tired simple chair were the only furnishings. The curtain was ancient and not large enough to stay closed so the bright morning sun cannot be blocked. Simply not even close to what one should experience at such a lovely setting for such a spectacular price. Hugely disappointing. The shower showed great potential but the fixtures were worn out with no maintenance. Deck chairs were old and dirty. Deck walls were peeling badly - see accompanying picture. Beds and room are attended to only on request - but they failed to tell us about it on check in (it was on a full sheet they provided us, but it is well hidden on the sheet). The first morning we got a text that due to an illness breakfast would not be served that day, and the restaurant never opened for dinner (on nights it is supposed to be open) the whole time we were there because they could not muster the staff to operate it. Management has lost its way.

The view from our room was incredible
They didn't have a full-service restaurant. The chef was injured and out on medical leave but they didn't have someone to take his place so we had to drive 15 minutes into town every time we wanted to eat. They offered small bites, but it wasn't anything we wanted to eat so we had to go into town to have nice brunches, lunches and dinners.

Fireplace, privacy, deck
Wear & tear, condition of finishes, poorly marked, poor lighting for late arrival, missing curtains and screens on many windows. Restaurant and bar not open Monday/Tuesdays during our stay. Staff failed to show so no breakfast the first day.

The location was good for seeing Mendocino & Fort Bragg. The one dinner we had on site was delicious. Front desk staff was extremely kind. Breakfast was good as well as our waiter.
The grounds looked very shabby and unkept. Our room was plain, no art, white walls, white bedding, old wood furniture…needs major updating and personality. The “adjoining doors”, I didn’t know we were going to have, were huge and horrible to look at in the bedroom. We had a mouse in our bathtub the last morning. How?? The bathtub/shower is extremely hard to get in & out of. We booked two beds and the photo shows them in the same room with a sofa etc, instead we open our door to one bed right there with the door smacking into the nightstand and another bed in another room. No sofa.

location, location, location
Breakfast was very good;
Calm, quiet atmosphere on lovely grounds
rooms dated; breakfast room should be the dining room; very poor lighting in the bathroom for putting on makeup; the grounds could use better lighting at night

We had a beautiful room with the most amazing ocean view and a private deck. The fireplace made the large room even more romantic. Our dogs loved their stay as well. Very comfortable. ALL of the staff were so friendly and efficient. We had great massages, and I was treated with a foot scrub and facial, and both were delightful. Can’t wait to go back.
We were there Monday and Tuesday, so only breakfast was served, but staff has to have some time off. We will move our stay to days when they serve dinner so we don’t have to drive anywhere.

The Location & Facilities

It was overlooking the ocean.
The main access road was under repair during our stay. The wine list (by the glass) needs to have more options with better wine selections.

We had a truly wonderful room (50). Spacious, tastefully furnished and a private balcony with an absolutely spectacular view over a cove.

Great location, 10 min to Mendocino and beautiful beach beside the property.
The deck looked out over 30 yards of dirt before getting to the path surrounding the property or vista chairs. The curtains were only two small IKEA panels that only 2/3 covered the patio door. Finally there was no AC which was not too bad except that there was no way to secure the screen door.
4.3
The property is beautiful and the provisions for our pets were a very sweet touch.

The Inn and cottages are clean inside and the views are beautiful. There is not a/c or a fan but the staff was kind enough to bring one to us.
The rooms lacked character for the price that was paid (peak season) Was very disappointed that there wasn’t anyplace real close or on property to eat. So back in the car to drive to get some supper and a bottle of wine to sit on the deck. They did have a delivery service available if you want to spend $14-20 delivery fee.

Unbeatable location, great room!
Not cheap, but it was peak season!

the views, the vibe were just wonderful
I wish the restaurant was accessible for dinner and that both eating areas were a little warmer.

The view was utterly amazing and it was the best thing about my trip. I was able to walk along the coast with my dog and visit the private beach daily. The room was large with high ceilings and was beautiful. I was able to sleep with the sliding glass door open and hear the sounds of the waves at night.
There were some scuffs on the walls and some other areas that were a little banged up. The toilet continually ran unless I carefully jiggled the handle after flushing - even after I asked the front desk to send someone over to fix the problem. The temperature control in the room did not work, but I was able to leave the sliding glass door open at night which made the room more comfortable.

Absolutely stunning place.

The openness of the resort. The field for my dogs to run around. The beautiful landscape.

If I had to pick something out it would be. The restaurant/could have had a little bigger menu
