A fabulous location high above the Mediterranean with spectacular views and offering the traditional authentic Italian Amalfi Coast experience well away from the the huddle and bustle of busy Positano.
The beds could be softer, but we did sleep well so not really something to complain about.

Nothing, everything was great.

Amazing hotel and the best experience in Positano. We enjoyed our room, the balcony had a spectacular view.
Upon our arrival we were warmly welcomed by the owners, Giovanni and her sister are very warm and friendly. Breakfast was amazing. Giovanni doesn't mind driving us to Positano and then picking us up. He was always ready to help us to make reservations for dinner in a very good restaurants around. Massimo and Lucky were the starts behind scene. The service was amazing This was probably one of the best hotels experiences we’ve ever had. I loved everything about it! You will not be disappointed

Authentic waterfront setting in a historic “house”. Nice clean comfortable room with a great balcony facing the water. Great breakfast with a great variety of freshly baked goods, eggs, yogurt, local fruit and lots of other treats prepared everyday on their terrace. Roof top common area with cascading outdoor showers and breathtaking views. Lovely setting away from the crowds of “downtown” yet only 1 mile or so away. Host Giovanni is SPECTACULAR!!!!! Engaging, caring entertaining, he made you feel like you were the most welcome guest to his home! The rest of the family running the “hotel” were also warm, lovely and accommodating making for a truly authentic Italian experience. Great restaurant recommendations, and local advice on any issue.
We loved this place! We loved Giovanni and his family! We loved Positano!! BRAVO & Thank you for a great 6 night stay!

We had the loveliest time staying at this hotel! The room and the view were beyond our expectations and the warmth of the owners made our stay even better. The breakfast spread here is the best too! I looked forward to it every morning (don’t miss the cappuccino they make!)
Giovanni, Rachele and Filippo all made sure we were well taken care of during our stay and were the perfect hosts!
Would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to go to Positano (there’s a shuttle that easily takes you down to the central area during timed hours but you can also make a special request to book a specific time at a small cost).

Our stay at Al Barilotto del Nono in september was amazing! It is a nice family business, with very kind people. The room was nice, and clean with a gorgeous view! The breakfast was very good with a varied selection. Giovanni, his brother, his sister and niece were very friendly, polite and kind. Giovanni recommend us two very nice restaurant, he also booked a table for us and drop us in Positano, thank you for the entire experience Giovanni. I definitely recommend this place and I hope to return again!

Giovanni and family are so welcoming and assist with every request. The views are stupendous. Breakfast is delicious and Giovanni's cappuccino's are legendary! The cake provided at breakfast is baked freshly and we requested to have it in the afternoons when we got back to the hotel; no problem!
Nothing!

Giovanni was such an incredible host who makes sure your stay is above and beyond expectations. From rides to town, to help with parking for our rental car, to coffee and cake on the terrace, their hospitality was unmatched.

Everything! the hotel sits just outside of positano centre with gorgeous views across the Mediterranean, the view from the balcony in every room is unmatched. Unlike with most hotels you don’t have to pay extra for a room with a view!! the rooms are all gorgeous and we also got a little private garden which was lovely for sitting in the morning after breakfast.
The hotel also has a gorgeous rooftop with a lovely garden and lemon trees everywhere! Perfect for a bit of sunbathing or using the outdoor shower to cool off on hotter days.
Breakfast was included and was lovely, the staff are so doting you barely move a muscle the whole time! There was not a single member of staff that wasn’t friendly and kind and happy to see and chat to you - it just made the place feel so homely and personable!
But by far the best thing about this property is the staff - Giovanni and his team honestly can’t do enough for you! They are always so happy to see you and help out. on one night we came back quite late (11pm) and all we wanted was a cup of tea Giovanni was happy to put a tray together for us to take to the room which was just a lovely little touch.
The town is a little 25 minute walk away but the views are absolutely stunning and there’s a gorgeous fruit cart on the way to stop for some fresh juice. (Although you do have to walk on the edge of the road which does get the adrenaline going) On our final day Giovanni even gave us a lift down to the town with our luggage (he had also offered on previous occasions but we decided to walk!) and was happy to tell us about the town we were so grateful!
Positano is truly the most beautiful place I have ever been, made even better by Giovanni and the team! Can’t wait to come back - see you in September!
We didn’t get to stay longer!!

The hotel was fantastic. My husband and I spent 5 nights. The bus stop is just outside the hotel. Did not need to hire a car. Giovanni and his siblings went out of their way to look after us.
Could have some dinner facilities.

Really great service with a personal touch. Delicious breakfasts including eggs how you like, fresh fruit, yoghurt, homemade cakes, served on a beautiful terrace with the most amazing view. The view from the bedroom was also insane. Giovanni kindly dropped us in to Positano twice during our stay which was incredibly helpful (we only asked twice, it was never refused). Brilliant service!
There are no complaints linked to this hotel, however accommodation in Positano is insanely expensive and therefore when comparing the hotel and overall experience to other places in Italy, it is significantly more expensive for a similar offering. Although the shuttle service is great, and the shuttle pick ups/drop offs offered by local restaurants for the evenings, it’s not possible to explore in the evenings independently. Positano is beautiful but I would probably stay in Sorrento for longer and visit Positano for a day trip (without luggage, which was a nightmare) as you can’t really appreciate it at night anyway.

The owner, Giovanni, was incredible. He made the whole stay wonderful.
The only drawback is the distance from the town, but Giovanni makes up for that with personal shuttle to the town.

Al Barilotto del Nonno is a family-run hotel on the main Amalfi coastal road, located very close to Positano. The hosting family gave us a very warm welcome, making us feel like family too - there were among the nicest people we met during our roadtrip in Italy. They gave us a lot of excellent advice, for instance on the Sentiero degli Dei. Our room was simple but comfortable and clean, and had a large private terrace overlooking the sea. There was also a good airco. The breakfast is served on a beautiful terrace (again with sea view!) and was big and very varied. Positano and other Amalfi coast towns can be reached easily by public bus - there is a bus stop only 50 metres from the hotel. The hotel also offers some limited parking space (which is an issue at the Amalfi coast), but this should be booked in advance and costs 20 EUR per day.

Location was little bit far from Positano.

Giovanni is a great host. Always there for you. The place is calmer than the August frenzy you find in Positano and has beaches close by.

Everything was a delight! The whole family is so kind and honestly just want to make sure you have a great stay. Location wise it’s 15-20 minute walk if you want to go in to positano center but we just did once. You have two great beaches just 10 minute walk (including public spaces on both of them). The room was everything you could ask for! Nice view, Clean bathroom, small tv to watch Italian tv, a/c that was great during the night. We used the shower on the roof terrace two out of three days instead of the one in the room, so nice to take a shower with that view!
Giovanni helped us with restaurant recommendations and helped us with a free shuttle to and from the restaurant (service from the restaurant but in collaboration with Barilotto) which was much appreciated, he even held us company while we waited on the taxi!
I can go on an on with nice things to say about this place but this is in hindsight one of the best hotel experience I’ve had for a while.
It is absolutely nothing bad! It’s just a shame that their restaurant was closed due to covid.

This hotel is top class. The hosts are very concerned about the well-being of their customers. The view from the hotel, the balcony and the breakfast are particularly amazing. The host was always willing to drive us to the Positano centre with his car and gave good restaurant suggestions. The rooms are very comfortable and clean :)

Giovanni is an absolute gem of a human being. He’s the owner of this lovely little property and does everything possible to make you feel welcome.
I must have saved at least €150 thanks to his generous on demand shuttle service to and from Positano center.
Breakfast was delightful every single morning. The scrambled eggs were the best I’ve had, his homegrown organic fruits were as delicious as I’ve had, and the view from breakfast was also captivating to say the least.
His restaurant suggestions were on point as well. One of them in particular was excellent (family owned, most popular on yelp among his suggestions). This hotel is also walking distance from a well priced Michelin starred restaurant called Leone.
Highly recommend staying here and I most certainly will at some point in the future!
Shower could have been a little bit bigger

We stayed at Al Barilotto del Nonno as part of our honeymoon, and it truly was the highlight of our stay! Our room was beautiful, the view is something we'll never forget. Giovanni and his family were absolutely amazing (we miss them all!). We felt so welcomed and enjoyed talking with them everyday. Giovanni provided rides to Positano whenever we liked, about a 10 minute drive in. Breakfast was amazing - the best cappuccino we had our entire honeymoon! The private beach area is walk-able, there are a lot of stairs, but worth it. It was our favourite beach area, we stayed at Treville Beach Club (the pizza was amazing!). We can't wait to come back and stay at Al Barilotto del Nonno. We can't recommend Barilotto enough!

Amazing hotel run by Giovanni and his family (+friends). If you're looking for the perfect hotel in Positano with spacious rooms, amazing sea views and great breakfast (in a roof terrace garden with spectacular views) then this is the place to be. The hospitality and care we got from the family was refreshing given how compact and busy positano can be. It's also a short walk to the town centre but for those who prefer a brief car journey there's a shuttle service run by the hotel. I recommend this place highly and will sure to return soon.
