We loved the stay at the cottage, it has everything you need and it's really quiet, and the location is great as well.
The beds are nice and comfy and the fold out bed is comfy as well, slept great!
You have everything you would need within a 10 minute drive, and the local pubs are great as well.
I was lucky to be in the local pub when Andy and Sally came in, they made me very welcome and introduced me to some friends and it was a really nice relaxed night, so thanks to them both, it was really nice and friendly.
We stayed here as we needed to be in the local area for personal reasons, but I would have easily stayed another week if I could have!
Few things to mention; Go to the Boot & Shoe pub, about 1 minute walk away, lovely pub, also drive 10 minutes to The Fenton Flyer, again lovely old fashioned pub, next door to the Fenton Flyer is a place called The Grill, does cracking pizzas and kebabs / burgers, loved it!!
All in all we had a great 5 days here, it was just what we needed and it is very quiet and peaceful.

Cody cottage
The cottage was larger than it appears on website plenty of room for 4. Owners are next door but left us to it. We went into Leeds easily on park and ride and was lovely for shopping. There are 2 pubs doing food you can easily walk too.

A pleasant cottage in North Yorkshire
We found the cottage well suited for a self catering holiday, and the sitting room and kitchen were of a good size. We didn`t cook while we were there although the kitchen had ample cooking facilities. A good sized lawned garden at the rear with some seating. Apple orchard just by and also a secret garden at the end. Quite an historic area, and plenty of villages and countryside. Easy access to York etc.

Birthday weekend
We loved the cottage, we were welcome by Sally and shown the garden area etc. The cottage, beds, kitchen were spotless. We has the best weekend staying here, spent a day in York, getting a taxi to and from. Also tried out the local which was only 4mins walk, food looked amazing here. We would definitely return.

Quiet pretty location.
Cosy, clean and warm. The cottage was well equipped and served us very well for the 3 nights we were there. We took advantage of the large pretty garden that was available to us when more of our family came to visit us for the day. Andy the owner allowed us to use his own garden furniture so we could enjoy eating together at lunch time with our family, which was very kind.

Beautiful holiday in Yorkshire, perfect property
We have just had the most wonderful week staying at the cottage. Its a really lovely upside down cottage with the living space upstairs, but it works so well. There was five of us and we all slept like babies. The garden is a great space. For us we travelled somewhere different every day to see as much of Yorkshire as we could and this was a perfect base. The local pub the Boot and Shoe was excellent, the food was outstanding. Just 2 miles away in Sherburn in Elmet has a really wide range of take away including Fish and Chips, Indian, Chinese, Pizza, we tried them all and they were excellent. Also there are plenty of shops there for essentials. I would highly recommend this property.

Lovely place
This is a lovely place to stay
Everything and more than you would need for a self-catering holiday.
So clean and fresh. The host was so welcoming and I felt nothing would be too much trouble.
We had a wonderful time
I can not recommend this cottage enough. I was unsure if I would get my mother home again, she loved it so much.
A very big thank you from us .

Friends Staycation
We were a group of friends looking for a social house on the outskirts of York. The property was only a twenty min walk from the train station and a really easy to get into the city centre. The house has a lovely open plan lounge and kitchen which is perfect for a group of friends. There is only one bedroom but it’s very spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. We had a lovely few days and would highly recommend.

Great property
Beautiful location with a huge back garden. Plenty of nearby walks to go on. Very quiet and peaceful. Owners were really helpful and available if we needed anything. Definitely a great place to stay. Not so much sleeping space for 6 though. Otherwise a great experience!

Perfect stay !
We loved the welcoming gifts, wine, biscuits, milk, tea, coffee etc
We had a BBQ the first night in the lovely garden and ate in the Shoe and boot second night . We were so lucky with the weather and the bedroom downstairs remained cool so we slept really well . Plenty of space in the cottage and the kitchen was very well equipped. Barkston Ash is a lovely village and Sally and Andy were friendly, helpful owners ….. we would love to return .

Fantastic location
Wonderful hosts. The cottage was really lovely and spacious. I hadn't realised a garden was available which was much appreciated with the lovely weather. The cottage is located in a quiet village which is only 25 minute drive from York. Sally was so welcoming and on hand for any enquiries. Highly recommend staying here.

Everything was lovely. Good facilities, friendly hosts and sunny garden. Had a great lunch outside the Boot and Shoe and a nice walk beside a golf course and fishing lake.

Only one problem
We didn’t get to stay in the property for the given dates, not due to the host but due to covid. The host was lovely about the whole thing thankfully. Due to the situation we were devastated we didn’t get to stay. The one thing I would say is that it was quite hard to find and we ended up on someone’s private land trying to find it, but he directed us and we found it eventually.

Amazing weekend
Thank you for having us. We have had such a beautiful weekend away for our friends birthday. 5 of us all thoroughly enjoyed it.
The cottage is very spacious and had everything we needed for our weekend away. The owners were so friendly and couldn’t help us enough.
Lovely location in a rural environment but still easy access to the local pubs and shops.
We all look forward to coming back again and have already recommended it to others.

Barkston Ash
It’s a lovely little cottage, well away from the beaten track, ideal for a few days away from the crowds. Very handy for exploring York, Leeds, North York Moors and The Dales - but you definitely need a car to get about. The Boot and Shoe pub, a lovely local serving fine pub grub, is literally just round the corner and was very welcoming and friendly. We will be back!

Cottages used in wedding preparation
We used this cottage for the bridal party to stay over on the first night. We were able to sleep six adults and two children and get ready the following day with hair and makeup. The cottage was local to our church and wedding venue and was clean and beautiful to stay in.

Fantastic cottage! Perfect for our family stay in Yorkshire.
We loved staying in this cottage in Yorkshire. As a family of six it had everything and more we needed to make our stay relaxing and comfortable. The owners have really made this a place with everything you could need with children in tow, games, dvds, books plus an amazingly well equipped kitchen! Everything was spotless and warm for our arrival...... a true home from home. Thank you so much Sally and Andy, we will definitely be booking here again when we return to Yorkshire for our next visit.

Very enjoyable stay
Stayed for a week in October and had a great stay. There was everything we required for our stay, the cottage was very clean and comfortable. The cottage is located in a small quiet village which is in a great location for access to York and the surrounding area. There are two pubs within walking distance, but no shops. There were lots of DVD'S and games for evening entertainment, and lots of useful local information. On arrival there was milk and bottle of wine in the fridge and sweets and biscuits on the table, which were much appreciated. We really enjoyed our first trip to Yorkshire and will be visiting again.
