the onsen was very hot and the atmosphere was wonderful.
I wish the lightings in the room were warmer.
Also the dinner course was a little too much in total amount of food for one meal, every dish was so delicious but I felt too full towards the end to enjoy every bite.

This place is incredible!! The atmosphere, serenity, tranquility and scenery is amazing! It’s like being sent back in time with how traditional this resort is. The rooms and Onsen were just wonderful especially if you’re looking for that private experience. My partner and I heavily tattooed and wanted something special since we’ve never experienced anything like this. This place didn’t disappoint.
I wouldn’t say it’s bad, it is out of the way from the train station but they have a courtesy van to pick you up. We wanted to see the city so they picked our bags up and then came back 2 hours later to pick us up and take us to the resort. Wonderful survive!!

Great food and well managed onsen. It is a bit tricky in terms of the access but I was bery satisfied with kind people and the most wonderful food.
A bit cold and dark room which seems due to its old fashioned mood.

What’s not to like? Everything is excellent. Beautiful surroundings, thoughtful rooms and excellent dinner and service. Dress warm if you visit in winter.

Everything about this stay exceeded my expectations, from the welcome and ryokan tour conducted by the proprietors, through to the beautiful and comfortable surrounds (grounds, buildings - main, baths, gift shop/reading room - and room) and exquisite Kaiseki dinners and breakfasts. Service was friendly, helpful and focussed on accommodating guests' needs. The attention to detail in the gardens and buildings - dating from the Taisho era and furnished accordingly - was outstanding; every room had so many points of beauty and interest yet nothing was overdone. The location of our room next to the river meant provided a wonderful, relaxing soundscape and even a view of the fireworks in nearby Hita City on the first night of our stay.
We would have liked to have had access to a mixed bath facility at the ryokan. While private baths (indoor and outdoor rotenburo) are available for guests staying at the ryokan's maisonettes and villas, they are not available for use by those staying in a room in the main building; such guests wishing to enjoy mixed bathing need to walk about five minutes up the road to use a family bath at the Kotohira Onsen, (whose baths, unlike those of the ryokan, are scaldingly hot).

It was super expensive but it worth every cent we payed. Perfect place for relaxing and getting to know one of the Japanese essentials, onsen and riyokan.
