The historic center of Perugia is equipped with many transport services: south of the center at Piazza D'armi we find the bus station that connects Perugia with the main cities of Umbria and Italy. The Fontivegge train station is located just across the border from the city center and can be easily reached by a regular bus service connecting Piazza Italia with the station itself. In the Pincetto area there is the Minimetrò terminus, an automatic rail transport system with cable traction that extends along a single line for a total length of 4 km. It connects the western outskirts of the city with the historic center, interchanging with the railway at the Fontivegge station.
For access to the historic center, there are also three escalator systems.

We spent three weeks in Numa’s spacious and beautiful apartment. Still decorated as it was when his mother lived there, the apartment had a warm and authentic feel. Check in was very welcoming and smooth. The apartment is outfitted very well with everything we needed. The terraces were wonderful and we slept very well in the beds. Finally, the location was beyond compare. Located in a small and ancient street (which was actually washed with lemony power washing several times a week by the city and cleaned daily) it was just around the corner from the incredible main piazza with cathedral, fountain and Palazzo Priori. The location is also central in the centro storico for all the many sights in Perugia. Perugia is kept wonderfully clean, is very visitor-friendly with clear signage and brass information plaques in English and Italian in front of all historic buildings and sights throughout. A small and frequent train goes from the centro storico to the train station in minutes and a series of escalators takes you conveniently to the bus station, so touring Umbria without a car from here is easy. I recommend buying an Umbria Go pass, which allows you to use ALL methods of public transportation. So convenient! Loved our stay in Perugia and at Numa’s wonderful apartment!

We stayed in the apartment for 4 weeks and had a fantastic time. There were three of us but there would have been room for 5 w/o problems. It is at the top of the house with a small balcony providing a fantastic view across the rooftops. The stairs are steep but it is well worth the climb and good practice for stalking the up-and-down townscape. The master bedroom is large and comfortable with its own bathroom and plenty of storage space. We spent many hours relaxing in the apartment, where we also slept very well. And best of all: the whole centro storico is at your fingertips, the cathedral is just around the corner and plenty of good restaurants and bars you can walk to in five minutes or less. Perugia is an enchanting town and this flat is an ideal base for exploring it. This counts as one of our best-ever holidays.

This lovely, comfortable, and very large, apartment has a great location just behind the Cathedral and main square of town. We stayed here for almost 6 weeks in September and October and stayed busy walking all over the twisting streets of this beautiful ancient city and visiting its many sites. We also took the train to some of the many nearby Umbrian towns. Our favorites, after Perugia itself, were Spello and Orvieto but Assisi, Gubbio, etc were very worth the short day trips from our base.
Numa, our host, was extremely helpful, gracious and kind to us. He even brought his son with him when we first arrived to make communication in english a little easier but it was unnecessary. He was extremely responsive to any request and would respond within the hour in most cases but at the same time was very conscious that his apartment was "ours" for the duration of our stay. For example, when a "cool snap" arrived early and we mentioned we were feeling a bit cold in the evening he was at the door in a flash turning up the heat and providing additional blankets and then checking in later to be sure we liked the new settings.
The kitchen was large and was fully stocked with all the pots, pans and dishes one could possibly need. The sitting room and dining room had a homey feeling with artwork and nicknacks and antique tables and sideboards still in their place from when the apartment had been home for an Italian family. We didn't use the second bathroom very often but it was there when we wanted. The hot water in the shower was plentiful and the washing machine worked well. Everything was sparkling clean when we arrived.
We had a wonderful stay in Perugia and it was made even better by Numa and his family and this wonderful apartment.
