About this cottage rental
A beautiful, comfortable and cosy cottage located at the end of Skorradalsvatn in the valley Skorradalur with a stunning view over the lake. This is a heavily grown area with lots of hiking possibilities for the whole family. The cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double bed (140x200 cm) and one with two single beds (bunk bed 80x200 cm), a Loft with some mattresses. Kitchen with good facilities, dining area, living room, TV. WC/shower.
The terrace (15sqm) is a on three sides of the cottage with garden furniture, so you´ll be able to catch the sun from early morning until sunset.
There is a parking place by the road. Right beneath the parking place there is the waterfront, a beautiful place to relax, play or fish. The cottage is in the middle of the hill and there is quite a walk up the hill but very worth the while.
Borgarnes and Snæfellsnes: Day-trips to Snæfellsnes, Breiðafjörður (the island of Flatey) and the southern part of the Westfjords show the best Iceland has to offer; amazing landscapes, countless hiking trails, boat trips and whale-watching to name a few.
The town of Borgarnes is only a 30 min away where you'll find all necessary services; medical service, supermarkets, gas stations, restaurants, banks, pharmacy, liquor store, museum etc.
There are many public pools with hot tubs in the area. Nearest is Hreppslaug in Skorradalur, 20 min drive in the direction to Borgarnes. Ideal to visit after a busy day of activity in this beautiful area.
The cottage is located in Skorradalur, a valley just over an hour drive from Reykjavik. It is a favorite for many Icelanders and has become one of the most sought-after cottage areas in Iceland due to mild and calm weather and exceptional nature. It has great hiking trails through forests and heavily grown areas, along the beach of lake Skorradalsvatn where you can also go fly fishing. Activities in the area such as horseback riding, playing golf until well after midnight in the summer and kick back in one of the many geothermal pools in the area. Skorradalur is ideally located if you want to explore the west of Iceland as short trips can be made to Húsafell and the surrounding glaciers, waterfalls such as Barnafossar and Glymur and historical places like Reykholt, Borg á Mýrum, the valley of Norðurárdalur are well within an hours drive as is national park of Þingvellir. Day-trips to Snæfellsnes, Breiðafjörður and the southern part of the Westfjords show the best Iceland has to offer.

We enjoyed our stay in Iceland in general and in the house in particular. It is a beautiful place.

This was a cozy cabin right on a fjord. Scenery was beautiful and was the perfect place to get away to.

Our stay here was truly special! The location, the lake, the birds, our host, it was all memorable. It provided us with a jumping off point to explore the wide area which we found to be most delightful. Greta took good care of us and made sure our stay was most excellent. Definitely recommend!

Very good, nice view, cosy cottage. We also enjoyed the BBQ and terrace, because we had some very sunny days.

Good localisation to visit the south west.
Especially for peninsula snaefellsnes and golden circle.
They are 91 steps from the road to the house.

For us, the cabin was a lovely base camp for exploring the West of Iceland. The cabin immediately felt like home for us. The cabin is super nicely placed at a slope with a view over a beautiful lake. It is super quiet, well equiped, has great beds and we could even make use of the hot tub. Really a lovely place to stay!
One thing would have been good to know in advance: if you want to drive towards the golden circle area, you either need a 4x4 car to take short route or need to take quite a D-tour to avoid a rough patch of road, that isn't in many cases OK for a normal car.
Other then that: I would very much recommend this cabin!

Gorgeous location and an easy drive from Keflavík International. Lots of sights within driving distance for day trips and it's 30 minutes away from Borgarnes where you can do all your grocery shopping or go out for dinner. The road along the lake is only paved part way but the drive is smoother than many of the other gravel roads in Iceland and is no problem even for a 2WD car.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. It was clean and had everything in it to provide a wonderful remote lake cottage experience. It was nice to make dinner and relax to a good Netflix show at the end of a busy day. The location was perfect for a base to explore from.
Thank you Greta :)

A very nice Chalet with a super view on the lake and the forest arround, ideal to visit the west of Iceland. Thank you Greta for your hospitality

Overall this stay was awesome. Obviously the roads to the cottage were a little bumpy and had some bigger potholes but we were expecting that. Gréta was super responsive and we enjoyed a cozy stay in the cottage. It was an amazing trip and I hope to make it back soon!

We had an amazing time in Greta's cottage! It's very cute, situated at the end of a lake a 30 minutes from Borgarnes. We'd recommend this place to everyone who's looking for a nice place to stay in Iceland and we'd come back anytime!

From the first time we stepped into this small wooden cottage we fell in love with it.
It's a perfect place to stay for exploring the West of Iceland like Snaefellsness or the Golden Circle with the Geysir and the waterfall Gullfoss.
Thanks for this great experience

House is very well equippe and basic necessities of life (toilet paper, coffee, eggs) all available at our arrival. Great location to discover west, south and central Iceland. Communication with owners went smooth even though we never met or spoke on the telephone.

My husband and I loved our stay at the cottage. Greta, the owner, was very responsive.
The cottage is cozy with everything one would need for comfort. The location was perfect for us....surrounded by trees with a lot of options for exploring the area on foot. Borgarnes, about 30 minutes away, has a grocery, bakery, a few museums and other small stores to get what you need.
We explored the countryside and small towns around the region as well as the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Breathtaking scenery.
We enjoyed all of it, and would definitely recommend staying at the cottage for a quiet, relaxing experience with nature.

The house is not too big, but in very good conditions. everything is is clean, works and the rooms give the inhabitants a feel of home. We liked our stay for one week in this house very much and would like to return next year. 2 Things are a little bit »difficult«: The steps from the parking place up to the house make it a real task to bring the suitcases to the house. 2. The very long grumpy road beside the like up to the main road (nearly 23 km) is better to drive with an SUV, we didn't have one. The surrounding of the house is beautiful, from high above you have a clear view to the lake, the house itself is surrounded with trees, flowers und bushes. We loved it and would agin choose it.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week and wanted to live there! It was just gorgeous with everything we needed. So quiet with beautiful view over lake and hills. Very warm and cosy. Great base for exploring the (south)west. Borgarnes is only 30 minutes away and has a large budget supermarket and swimming pool (supermarket called BONUS- great for picking up affordable groceries. We did enough shopping for 3 meals a day for a week for very little money. The swimming pool has heated outdoor/indoor pool and hot tubs, steam room, etc. and is very cheap) There is also horse riding near by.
We loved returning to this peaceful haven every evening after a full on day of activities. It was great that there was no TV...we played cards, enjoyed dinner on the terrace and had a great sleep every night in a comfy bed.
There a few little points to be aware of. When you shower you need to be super quick as hot water is limited. There are a lot of steps up to the cabin (91 in fact) and the last 20 minutes of your drive to the cabin is on a pretty bumpy road (normal car fine though- 4WD not required. A lot of roads are like this in Iceland anyway). Also be careful to have your key on you when you walk out as the door will lock automatically.
An amazing, well equipped 'story book' retreat. Perfect for those who want to 'get away from it all' without being too remote. We would love to go back someday.

Stayed here for our honeymoon and could not recommend it more! Property was clean and gorgeous, and just like the pictures. Secluded, private, and in the most beautiful country we have been in. Could not recommend enough!

I stayed in your cottage with my boyfriend over the Easter holidays, and I must say it was one of my favourite holidays!
Your cottage provided the perfect secluded, and romantic getaway in the most beautiful setting.
Greta was friendly and informative, and even offered us the use of the jumper stash, which was much needed in the cold evenings!
I would definately recommend this place to friends, and family, and I have! People can't stop me talking about it!

Absolutly silence and sourrounded by lots of trees. The owner were very flexible by taking and giving back the keys for the cottage. thank you very much. We spend our honeymoon there.

The cottage has a marvellous view over the lake. It is well maintained and offers all we needed for our stay. A good basis for our hiking activities all over Western Iceland. Thank you to Greta and her husband!
