About this house rental
Welcome to Anchor Shores! We've recently remodeled the entire home, making this the most up-to-date home on the beach!
You can listen to the ocean rumble on the beach right outside our 4000 square foot, 4 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom beachfront home. No need to walk to the ocean – just a few steps over the rock bulkhead and you’re already there! Look at the photos to see how close the beach really is. If you're not into rock climbing, you can access the beach from the park just a few blocks south.
What is the view really like? You will look due west down the Strait of Juan de Fuca as the sun sets while looking south to the Olympic Peninsula, northwest to the San Juan Islands and north to Anacortes. You can even see the lights of Victoria, BC at night!
All four bedrooms are upstairs. The primary bedroom has a king-sized bed and it's own separate bathroom. The bunk room has two queen beds on the ground and two twin XL beds above. The third bedroom has a king-sized bed. The fourth bedroom has a queen-sized bed and it's own separate bathroom. An additional full bath is in the hallway directly across from bedrooms #2 & #3.
Each bedroom opens up to an upstairs deck - excellent for whale, dolphin and sunset watching. Our home will comfortably sleep twelve – perfect for two to three families. Two of the bedrooms have their own bathroom suites, and another bathroom off the hallway serves the remaining bedrooms.
Anchor Shores comes complete with all high thread count linens, a fully equipped kitchen, large capacity washer and dryer, parking for up to four cars, high speed Internet and WiFi, cable access to over 220 channels and two fully Internet enabled HDTVs - one is a 75” flat-screen in the living room and the other is a 50” flat screen in the kids’ media room.
The main floor features a warm, open kitchen with flat cooktop facing the water; a dining room with seating for twelve; a large, open living room with seating for everyone, and separate seating areas for book reading or ocean watching.
Our home away from home is located just minutes from Oak Harbor, but secluded from the noise of the city. Close by are the world famous Gallery Golf Course, Fort Ebey State Park, Deception Pass State Park, and the ferry from Coupeville to Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula.
And if you're looking for something to eat, you can cook for yourself in the fully appointed kitchen while watching the waves crash on the beach, or you can enjoy one of our favorite local restaurants.
The best part about Anchor Shores is that Whidbey Island has some of the lowest rainfall in Washington State, making any time of the year right for a Pacific Northwest vacation. While many parts of Washington experience annual rainfall of 30” or more (220” in the Olympic Rain Forest), Whidbey Island will enjoy less than 20” of rain each year since it is located in the Olympic Mountain Rain Shadow.
We do have a no pet policy, including hypoallergenic animals, and this is especially important due to severe allergies in our family.
Why not take in the ocean and the views for a most relaxing and memorable vacation?
Come and enjoy the spellbinding effects of sun, surf and sea breezes that are never further than your front doors. Anchor Shores on the way to experience the best of the ocean.

What a wonderful home! The waterfront location is one of the best we've visited. The views are stunning, and the house has all the amenities you could need.

We had an excellent time staying at the house over Christmas. There was plenty of space for multiple families with kids and it is the absolutely best stocked VRBO I've ever seen. Absolutely would stay there again.

This house was everything we could have hoped for a girls weekend. The rooms and beds were super comfortable, the kitchen was perfect for cooking gourmet meals, and there was tons of cozy seating space. The views and hot tub were incredible.

We stayed at Dean & Suzanne's VRBO in September 2023 and the word my family kept saying all week was - Wow! The pictures on the website were pretty but in-person this VRBO is even more beautiful. We saw the spout of a whale from the living room and a sea lion catching a salmon from a bedroom. The view was so relaxing and remarkable, but the furniture was amazingly comfortable too. For example, often with VRBO's it is hard to find a place that has a dining room table big enough so everyone can eat together. This VRBO has that and the dining room chairs are super comfortable. So too was the furniture throughout the whole house. You could just chill out and talk or read or look out the window for hours. Also, I don't sleep as well as I used to when I was younger but on this vacation I slept so incredibly well. The sound of the waves were extremely relaxing. They created a beautiful white noise that even with many people in the house it meant that if others were staying up late or getting up early, they were not waking up everyone else. And several family members commented on how comfortable the beds were. I whole heartedly recommend this property if you are wanting a vacation or just some down time in a beautiful location. It was simply remarkable beyond words! - Mary L

We have stayed at many many beautiful homes, but this one really blew our minds! Yes, we read the description about the crashing waves and right on the waters edge….but no words can describe this!!! It’s was magical, relaxing and that sunset!!! We were a group of 10 ladies! Ten picky ladies and This home had everything! There is so many spaces to have some alone time, yet a great room to house us all at once! The view, the hot Tub! I can go on and on! There was no fuss about the rooms! They each were perfect! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

This crib was, without question, one of the finest vacation spots I (and my family) have ever stayed at on this planet! The sound of the ocean, the view of the sunset, the crabbing, the walks along the beach- this place was the whole package. And to top it off- it's super mod, completely renovated, with the latest furniture, appliances, gizmos and...wait for it... the largest refrigerator and freezer combo known to man (or woman). HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I had no idea you could get crashing waves in Washington. Everything about this place was fantastic--the location, the size, the layout, the amenities. It was fully outfitted for everything we needed to cook and care for 10 people, done with a great deal of care and thought. Highly recommend (so long as you don't want to book when we want to be there!)

Great house to spend a few days with family at. It sits right on the beach. We loved watching and hearing the waves crash onto the shore and going for walks in the sand. Inside of house was clean, well stocked and decorated nicely. House is close to Deception Pass which is beautiful! Lots to see on Whidbey Island. I'll definitely be back.

We loved the trip. We had 6 kids ranging from 3-11 and they loved the place with the twirly stairs/bunk beds/ and amazing selection of board games. The host was very helpful in communicating on getting the cable to work as well!

This is a really spacious, wonderful, place, with water on both sides and lots of natural light. The furnishings and decor are clean and attractive without clutter. Lots of nice little extras. Easy check-in, check-out. No experience contacting host, because everything went so smoothly.
The place is probably hard to upkeep because it is right on the water. There was a window seat that wasn't quite as appeared in the photos, probably do to some repairs for water damage. But really minor issue and the place was a delight.

This was the perfect spot for us! We were in the area for a wedding, and it was the first time we all stayed in the same place since having kids- plenty of space for us all (grandparents, aunts and uncles, a cousin…) We felt very connected and still had plenty of areas to retreat to when we felt we needed a bit of quiet time.
The master bedroom was such a treat for the grandparents (the bathroom especially! We all ended up using theirs for that fabulous shower).
The kitchen was stocked with everything we could possibly need - no coffee grinder, but we had anticipated that and brought our own. They had a few bottles of wine and cookies there for us on check-in. Such a nice touch!
The view is perfect, and the place is set up so we were able to take advantage of it at all times.
Thanks for such a wonderful weekend!

The property was great and the owners super helpful. The cell coverage in the area is terrible so make sure to google map the directions ahead of time. The hot tub was malfunctioning. unfortunately, but the owners were responsive and we found some workarounds that allowed us to enjoy the home and a soak. We'd return for sure.

The property was incredible. It is very well maintained and set up really well for vacationers (master bath has bath bombs and epsom salts, rooms have Keurigs inside of them). The owners were very communicative and the photos are really accurate to the property.

House is very large, lots of space for everyone to spread out. Master bath shower was heavenly. Views were beautiful. Only downsides were that the house was very cold when we arrived and it took quite a while to get the bottom floor comfortably. We also ran out of hot water for showers but we did have a lot of people bathing in a row. Overall a great couple days on Whidbey and the house was a good fit for our group.

We had an amazing time, staying for 3 nights at this beautiful home. The interior is stylish and classy and the view is stunning! It is very spacious with different sitting areas where small groups can sit and chat or play games. A big dinner table made for wonderful family meals and discussions.
We did our Thanksgiving meal here and there was more than enough dishware, pots and pans, cutlery, serving dishes etc to prepare a large meal for 9 people, with no less than 3 ovens.
The attention to detail in the bathrooms and bedrooms is fantastic - 3 fully stocked bathrooms with shampoo, conditioner, bath salts, shower caps and everything you can think of.
The owner was quick to respond when we had some comments and questions.
Be prepared to be splashed / soaked when you're out on the deck... it was a very windy and stormy weekend for us, though inside it was warm and cozy!
Thank you for opening your beautiful home to us - we will be back for sure!

This was a repeat visit for us. My family insisted that we stay in the same house as last year during our summer vacation, but I had to agree with the general opinion. This lovely space right on the water is perfectly laid out and appointed for a larger group. Thank you for being great hosts.

This home may have been the most well equipped rental in which we've had the opportunity to stay. They went above and beyond to ensure that our group had a wonderful week at the home. Be aware that this home is right on the water, which means sometimes there's a beach and sometimes waves crash into the seawall directly below the porch. Sleeping at night was like sleeping with a wave sound machine on, even with doors and windows closed, which we loved. Would recommend without any hesitation.

An absolutely fantastic waterfront home with amazing layout and quality finishes!
We just completed a stay and had 2 families of 4 and some elderly in-laws. The layout of the property held the 10 of us EASILY - from the sleeping arrangements (the bunk room is "epic" per my teens), to the # of bathrooms to the sitting areas. The open floor plan is fantastic for family time, and then there are really 3 different sitting areas (and a huge dining room table) where people can congregate for social time - I WISH MY HOUSE HAD THIS!
The hosts were super timely with any communication we needed to have and even had a welcome "gift" totally unexpected but greatly appreciated!
At high tide the waves were literally spraying the house and deck, and the kids had an unforgettable experience - perhaps the best cousin time "ever"!!!
You are a quick run to town for any needed supplies (10 mins to Oak Harbor), but you are remote and secluded from the busy tourist areas on the island. Seals, bald eagles, and even an otter were the looky loo's we had to deal with!
10/10 - highly recommend this place and we will be back!

This was the perfect vacation house. We stayed here pre-remodel, and the new additions to the property are wonderful. Dean and Suzanne are excellent hosts and make the stay so easy.

Great place to stay on Whidbey Island!
The entire family (10 of us) had a fantastic time for an extended weekend on whidbey! House has great location and so close to the water you'll feel like you're on a boat! Lots of space and very well equipped.

Lovely Property for a Family Reunion
We were pleasantly surprised by a couple things not pictured. There is a nice wide staircase to carry your luggage to the second floor and acute little T.V. room up there also.
It would be a privilege to stay here again.

Family VACA
This home is beautiful and there are many rooms in which to relax. The decor is peaceful and most necessities are provided.
However, the spa was inoperable our whole vacation as it would not heat. We barbecued one evening and had to change propane tanks only to find out that the "reserve" tank was empty. In two bedrooms the blinds covering the sliders to the awesome ocean views were inoperable. One bedroom had no coverings on a large window which made sleeping difficult. Most cooking pans are teflon coated with scratches and are unsafe according to food experts. It rained one evening as we were sitting on a great window seat overlooking the ocean and the roof started to leak.
I still would recommend this home but there are updates/improvements to be made as the cost of this rental is on the high end.

Perfect Family Home
Plenty of separate space & room for entire family at same time.
Amazing views & the ocean sound is so calming. Kids BR perfect so adults get their own room. We had 6 adults & 6 children.
Kitchen great for all the cooks in the family, equipped with everything. We picked the right one.

Absolutely Amazing!
This house is one of the nicest places I have stayed in my entire life. Whomever decorated it must be a professional interior designer. The colors are so relaxing and just put you at ease. The many windows allow you to watch the waves wash in and out and the sound of them gave us the best sleep ever. The entire place is stocked like you would expect your home to be and you want/need nothing. Every detail was thought about right down to ear plugs by the bed and make up remover pads in the bathroom.
There were 9 of us staying in the house, we went to visit my daughter who lives in Anacortes. Even she was shocked at the beauty this house has to offer and she grew up in Oak Harbor. The kids loved the open floor plan and played a lot of hide and go seek. We spent the evenings watching twilight on the big high definition television since we had previously taken the drive to Forks and La Push. The hot tub is an added bonus, just be careful when the tide is high so you don't get salt water in it (the waves do come that far occasionally).
In the mornings we walked the beach and found lots of sea life. I drank coffee in the bay window while watching the ocean. During the day we ventured out a bit. We recommend getting ice cream at the Farm Stand, taking the Deception Pass boat tour and eating at the Shrimp Shack.
Overall, we could not have asked for a better stay. We want to book again in the next couple years, I don't plan to ever stay anywhere else when we are in Washington.

Beautiful Oceanfront Retreat
We really enjoyed our stay. The hot tub was a definite highlight. It was also really clear that the owners take pride in the property. Our coffee maker was broken and the owner replaced it within a few hours.
Some things to know: When the tide is high, the waves literally splash up on the house — it’s really cool to be that close to the ocean, but does make that side of the house pretty unusable in the evenings.
The house is really beautiful and well laid out/appointed. My only criticism is that the inside of cabinets/drawers throughout the house were pretty dingy/dirty. It’s clear that the house is in need of more regular deep cleans but is otherwise well maintained/cleaned.

West Coast Sunset Vision
We hosted a company trip at this property and it was exactly what we needed. This house is spacious, well designed and has all the amenities you could need. Amazing kitchen, living area and hot tub. Bedrooms and laundry room were superb. Suzanne and Dean were very responsive and even supplied us with a sketchpad & brainstorming supplies for our meetings. Thanks again, can't wait to come back!

Lovely!
Beautiful views! Clean interior with attention to detail. Huge commercial sized refrigerator and freezer with tons of amenities for cooking. Beds and all seating furniture was comfortable and set up in a way to either have a cozy spot to yourself or watch a movie/play games as a group. Location is central so it is easy to drive to either end of the island to explore for a day of you desire. No matter where you are in this home the views are amazing. Hot tub was the perfect way to start or end our day. Beach at low tide is a peaceful & wonderful spot to walk. High tide provided up close and personal views of the water with waves crashing against the rocks just below the deck and splashing water up to the windows and the hot tub! We enjoyed the thrill of these daily changes. Owners were extremely helpful & responsive to the few questions we had. Will definitely stay here again!

We had a great time at this property - gorgeous unbeatable views right on the water, from almost every room. It felt like we were on a boat over the water. Amazing. The beds were so comfortable, the kitchen huge and well stocked. Hot tubbing over the sound was fantastic.A few things to know - access to the beach from the house is not so easy. You have to climb down large rocks to get there. Not suitable for older adults in our group or young children, but they drove to a nearby trailhead. Also, the porch on the water was very windy, so pack appropriate clothes. We weren’t able to actually sit out there much and enjoy the views because of the strong winds. There is a spiral staircase in the house, which was difficult for us because we have a toddler, and there were no baby gates. There were great books there for the kids and some other kids activities. The place was clean enough, but definitely not sparkling clean. Lots of dishes in the cabinets were dirty and with crud on them. In one of the bunk beds’ lowest bed, my daughter found someone else’s dirty boxers....not so fun to find. The coffee cups in the master bathroom were dirty, and the keurig machine only had one kind of coffee (the light roasted breakfast blend, which I’m not a fan of). And the bathrooms could benefit from additional bath and hand towels.

Beautiful spot, perfect for families
We loved our stay at Anchor Shores! We came over from Seattle with our two kids, along with my sister, BIL and their two kids. The house was super spacious with beautiful views. Our kids were so excited about the bunk beds, and the parents loved the hot tub. The coffee maker was broken when we arrived, but Dean and Suzanne not only brought a new one the next morning, but fresh coffee as well. It was a bit treacherous getting down to the beach when the tide was out, but we didn’t mind. We would love to come back!
