None of us had stayed on a boat before. We didn’t know exactly what to expect. Kind of like an RV on the water. Small but useable bathrooms. Good A/C. Comfortable beds. That’s all guys need.
8.0 / 10.0
Smaller then expected especially the bed in the small bedroom. The smell is horrible but I guess it is normal on a boat. Luckyly I had some car freshener to put in the bedroom and some fleecy sheets to help a bit.
We couldn't use the 'stove top' because of state law (or city law can't remember) so we only had the microwave and the small fridge.
Also, if the lady who welcome you is in the parking lot (which happen a lot) you can't enter the parking lot as of there is a limit of entry permited by account. We had to pay for the parking because we couldn't reach her.
Anyway, we had to try the experience on a boat and we can say it is done!... but a non repeat for us!

This is the 2nd time we’ve booked a boat in the Charlestown marina and it was a great way to see the Boston area! The hosts were very quick to respond to whatever we needed!

The boat is old and the pictures are NOT current - bait and switch situation! There was a funky smell in the smaller bunk room, the fan was on full blast when we arrived, so I know they must have been trying to alleviate the funk. Lights broken and hanging in the larger bunk room (the owner did come and climb into our unmade bed and stuck it back in the wall, although it's not fixed, just wedged in the opening). One bathroom light was burned out and most of the light covers are missing. In the main cabin, there is a sharp screw sticking down out of one light. Vents in the bathroom were caked with dusk. The skyward hatch in the main bunk cabin, was also dirty, and not great since your face is about 2' away. A piece of trim was hanging off the main door. Furniture inside and out is worn and/or dirty. The outside of the boat is not well taken care of either, it's dirty, the upholstery is worn and there is junk wedged in all corners, an overturned plant, and there's a dirty tarp collecting water and leaves as you enter the boat. We received 4 pages of instructions and the instructions book in the boat had conflicting information. This was extremely overprices and we are so disappointed.

Boat was pretty dirty. Inside and out. There was an ever present odor from the bilge that at times was quite strong. Only one of the bathrooms was operational the first night. Second night there was quite a bit of traffic on the dock that was loud. Bedclothes were all stained and old. For the money it was certainly not worth it.

It was everything we thought as far as location in the boat itself, but the exterior of the boat was in need of a cleaning the bathtowels. What didn't you and mildew smelling the betting was tingy. And a little smelly, but overall, the place was clean in general. And had everything you'd want or need.

Loved being able to stay on a boat and away from the hubbub of the city. The gentle rocking of the boat was soothing as we drifted off to sleep!

Our family of 5 loved the unique experience of staying on a boat in the Boston Harbor for our recent trip to Boston. While the boat is a little aged, it is well taken care of & provided a great short stay for my husband and I, and kids ages 15, 11 & 9. The Charlestown Marina is beautiful and very clean and safe, it was a great retreat from the busyness of Boston. Deb was great to communicate with and Sherrie was especially appreciated as she helped us get settled in the middle of a thunderstorm and torrential downpour. The small space might get a little cramped for a longer stay, but for our 2 night visit to Boston, it was the perfect fit!

When I went to book this property the price changed on booking. This was in addition to other charges that international guests may not be aware of which also need to be added. None the less I elected to proceed as I was meeting one of my children who now lives in Belgium for his Harvard Graduation and catching up was a special occasion for us . We are familiar with boats. Location suited us as we did have a car but it is also relatively easy to get many places without using it. The check in process of having to meet someone at a specific time to gain access,(not advised at time of booking) and the condition of the boat were both a little disappointing. The marina has no special Boston ambience. The boat, furniture and overall presentation are a little tired.. Internet connection is poor. It lacks amenities such as an iron that most hotel rooms would provide. Value for money not there for experience provided in this instance.

The Sea Pearl was a wonderful boat, perfect for 6 of us! Myself, my husband and our four boys enjoyed the unique setting on Charlestown Harbor. The ‘neighbors’ were quiet, the cabin was comfortable, the AC was inviting on the hot days. The check in and check out process was super easy, the parking was close by and unloading was a breeze! This is a great location, a short and comfortable walk away from the USS Constitution and the freedom trail!

Just wow. Everything was just perfect. Thanks to Sherry and Deb, they were so helpful. Sleeping on a boat (first time for me) is making sure you will sleep like a baby. Boat is clean when everything you need. I will come back next year for sure!!

Location, location, location
My family absolutely loved staying in Boston Harbor. Gorgeous setting and QUIET! An easy 10 minute ferry will get you into the heart of the city.
Check in is a breeze. And Sherry and Deb were both great during our stay. It’s definitely tighter quarters than a hotel room, but I’d recommend just on location alone. Perfect!

Short Weekend Trip - Perfect Find!
We had been planning our trip to Boston for 10 years, and the cherry on top was finding this property. The property was just as it was on the listing. Plenty of room for four adults. The neighborhood is very safe, and in a great location to start exploring the city.

Wonderful Location for Walking to the Freedom Trail
My husband and I as well as our 19 and 17 year old boys stayed on the yacht. This was our first time ever staying on a boat overnight so we went into this knowing that we would likely have to make some adjustments as this would be smaller than our usual VRBO housing. Indeed it was a tight fit. BUT we went to Boston to see Boston and to do as much as we could comfortably do in a week. So, we knew that the boat would be a place to sleep and have coffee in the mornings. We didn't cook there at all. The boat is very close to the Freedom Trail so you can start the Freedom Trail from the boat and walk it to downtown to Boston Common; OR you can make your way to Boston Common and start the Freedom Trail there and make your way back to the boat that way so that you end the day close to the boat. This is the option we went with for our day. By the way, a lot of publications say you can do the trail in 2 hours. I would plan on it being a pretty full day if you do it all in one day.
Prior to the trip, we invested in good walking shoes and we decided not to rent a car. After coffee on the top deck each a.m., we all left on foot for breakfast, usually somewhere in Boston. Our first full day in Boston we walked from the boat to downtown for breakfast at Cafe Bonjour. It usually has a wait and it is TOTALLY worth it. We did indulge since we knew we would be walking a lot. We left there to go to Boston Common to start the Freedom Trail (it is an actual trail in that you follow a brick or painted red path for the entirety of the trail). We walked 12 miles that day and that included going to breakfast and then walking to Warren's Tavern for dinner. The Tavern was historically cool and had GREAT raw Oysters at $1 per oyster for happy hour (3-6pm). The dinner food was pretty mediocre but the oysters were worth it.
Our second day we decided to go whale watching so we walked the short distance (maybe 5 - 10 mins) over to the ferry (very close to the USS Constitution). The ferry drops you by the Aquarium....our whale watching boat was part of the Aquarium so it was very convenient to get off the ferry and then onto the whale watching boat. That was an amazing experience. We got to see beautiful whales & ride a really large boat in the open ocean.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay on the yacht. It is much like staying on a RV; but it rocks you to sleep. Our boys preferred to shower at the marina showers and we did use those bathrooms when coming and going.

Great place to stay
The beds were so comfortable. Nothing like being rocked to sleep like a baby every night from the ripple of the water. The location is great and easy to get an Uber or just walk to all the action. Such a fun experience for us to stay on a boat and be able to walk to TD Garden for the Frozen Four Hockey games.

Perfect spot for a Boston getaway!
We came to attend an exhibit at the Institute of Contemporary Art and thought that staying on the Sea Pearl would be a great experience. Spacious, clean, great location. Even in December the Sea Pearl was cozy and well lit. We enjoyed Charlestown and the Harbor Walk and took advantage of the Charlestown-Long Wharf ferry.

We had a fantastic stay. The owners are super responsive if you have any questions or issues. The location is beautiful. The boat was spotless.
Everybody else who was staying in the marina or river board were super friendly.
We can’t wait to go back.

Can't say enough wonderful things about our stay on the Sea Pearl! My husband and I took a belated honeymoon and wanted extra-special accommodations to reflect the occasion. For not much more than hotels in the area, we found the Sea Pearl - and SO glad we did!Communication with the owner before our stay was timely and very helpful. The location was private, secure, quiet and breathtakingly BEAUTIFUL!Slept like a baby on the water. I felt a slight bit of motion sickness upon entering the cabin of the boat the first day, but brought with me Wal-Dram, a Walgreen's ginger-root based alternative to Dramamine which was completely non-drowsy. Taking two a day stopped any motion sickness in its tracks! I had no idea in advance whether or not I'd get motion sickness on the boat, and SO glad I brought this with me just in case. They keep the boat stocked with Dramamine and Bonine tablets, however, I liked having a natural alternative with me which didn't cause drowsiness. We are a techy couple, so we were pleased to find lots of outlets on the boat to plug in laptops, phones, portable chargers, etc. There is wifi, however it's spotty there -- all the more reason to get off the tech and out to enjoy Boston! The walk to/from the nearest T-station (North Station) was a bit longer than we thought it would be, but still reasonable in the daylight hours. Parts of the walk are relocated due to construction and it's and not really a walk we felt comfortable doing after dark, so many times we took Lyfts from the Harbor to North Station, which averaged about $12-$16 (depending upon the time of day), not including tip. Lyft drivers had no problem finding us using the GPS directions the boat owner provides. Our favorite part was being connected to the water and how peaceful and quiet the location is. We just checked out today and are still swaying even though we are on solid ground - so be aware, that is a side effect of staying on a boat - lol.We took advantage of the onsite laundry and showers at the Marina office - which was a nice perk - but also showered on the boat at times. Just a *very* cool way to reside temporarily in the Boston area. It's sparked in us a desire to search out other alternative lodging options for future vacations. If you're on-the-fence about choosing the Sea Pearl, I'd say go for it! It will make your Boston experience all the more memorable.

A unique experience!
Staying on the Sea Pearl was fun! A comfortable place to spend some time. Sitting in wheelhouse in late afternoon with wine and looking at the boats coming and going was very relaxing. Uber was a great way to get around and picks you up right outside the marina gate. Lots of great restaurants a short Uber away. We enjoyed Tias, The Black Rose, and a dumpling house in Chinatown. Pizza and cannoli in the north end was delicious. A relaxing and fun stay. Sherry, the greeter was friendly and knowledgeable.

Great alternative to traditional lodging
What a great experience to stay in the historic Boston Harbor. We happened to be in town on 9/11 and were fortunate to see the USS Constitution towed out to the ocean and back and fire her cannons in the harbor while visiting. Btw, old Ironsides, as she is known, is only 2 piers away for a tour.
This marina has easy access to walking paths and if you have the ability, walking to the Freedrom Trail at Bunker Hill and the North End are highly recommended.
We slept comfortably on the beds, 4 adults, a couple in each of the staterooms and used the showers at the marina office (nice feature) although we could have easily used the ones on the boat. Coffee on the dock in the morning and drinks at the end of the night were a great way to add to this adventure.
My only caution to you is that voices carry on the water and not all neighbors at the dock are happy with renters. We had a 15-year old with special needs visit the boat for a tour and pizza party in the cabin (which was more than spacious enough for 8) and unfortunately had a melt-down on her way out. The neighbor complained to the owner even though it wasn't quiet time (11p-7a), so be aware that if you have children you may get tattled on. Otherwise, the owners and Sherry, the lovely lady who meets you at the boat, are fabulous and friendly people.
Definitely interested in renting from this owner again.

We had the most enjoyable time on the Sea Pearl during our vacation in Boston. We wanted something unique and different - particularly for our 3 children, ages 10, 13, and 16. The boat is well-appointed, clean, and spacious enough for all of. Sherry greeted us early, and honestly I learned more about Boston from her in 20 minutes than I have in my lifetime. Owners are super responsive to any questions we had. I'll never stay in a hotel in Boston again!
