About this apartment rental
As featured in The London Evening Standard Homes & Property online - November 2018
A sun-dappled pergola in a garden so rare softly whispers your name in the Dorsoduro sestiere…
Beckoning you to rest easy, settle back and stay awhile within a sleepily serene backwater offering few sounds other than the happy chirruping of contented birds and the fluttering of vines in the gentle breeze, La Baruffa is one of the latest in the series of VOV-owned properties designed with gusto by ArchFlorence to sweep you off your feet.
A pretty-as-a-picture ‘pied-a-garden’ for lovers of the ‘real Venice’ offering complete liberation from any busy-life blues, the dainty La Baruffa is a charming confection of peerless craftsmanship, bespoke furnishings and well-coordinated hues.
Situated in the sweetly sedate district known as ‘Incurabili’ between the Guggenheim Collection and the glinting waters of the Zattere promenade, and distinguished by its adorable little wall-mounted wooden shrine to Saint Rita of Cascia, this exquisite apartment with its own private garden sleeps 4 (+1) guests in air-conditioned* accommodation arranged over 2 floors.
Marrying the restorative pleasures of being at one with nature with all the comforts you could wish for in a dream Venetian home, the 3 bedroom / 3 bathroom apartment La Baruffa comprises:
Ground floor
• An independent entrance opening to reveal your surprise ‘giardino segreto’ (secret garden) – a semi-paved oasis of meditation (and holiday celebration!) with palm trees, climbing roses, shrubs, ivy and flowering plants. Furnished with wooden sun-loungers for reclining al fresco, plus ample garden seating and a dining suite beneath a lantern-lit pergola of vines, it’s outdoor living at its loveliest!
• A glazed door leading you into La Baruffa’s luxurious open-plan living area dressed in masterfully coordinated patterns and high-end hessian shades offset with sassy splashes of colour against off-white timbers up above. Intimate and inviting, the room comprises -
- A sofa-furnished sitting / TV area with the apartment’s original decorative fireplace providing a focal point to the room
- A contemporary-style kitchen in off-white, wood and marble with top of the range appliances (including a Bosch oven), and a breakfast bar with stools
- A dining area just to the side with banquette seating and a dining table for 6 guests
• A charming studio-cum-bedroom - ideal for a senior member -decorated in a fetching mix of matching blue and linen colours, and with a single day bed plus an en suite marble bathroom with a shower enrobed in iridescent ‘mermaid tail’ tiling just waiting for you to make a splash!
A open-sided staircase at the centre of the apartment rising up to the –
1st floor where you’ll find, to one side –
• The handsome master bedroom with views over the quaint and quiet Calle Delle Mende, furnished on a blue, linen and off-white theme with a double bed, a built in mirrored wardrobe, floorboards in natural & grey alternate stripes, and a deluxe en suite bathroom in marble with bathtub
And to the other -
• La Baruffa’s delightful third bedroom overlooking the sunny Calle Navaro, furnished in a warm muscovado brown and a deep demerera yellow, with twin beds (which can be made into a double at your request), a built in wardrobe, striped floorboards matching those of the master, plus a smart en suite bathroom in marble with a shower encased in Moroccan-themed tiling
Are you part of a larger group who would like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer another apartment in this building: Gondolieri (with ‘altana’ rooftop terrace!)
OUR COMMENT
LIFE’S A BED OF ROSES at new apartment LA BARUFFA – a sweet taste of paradise on the ‘Dorsoduro Museum Mile’…
A short amble to the iconic Church of the Salute, the Accademia Galleries and Bridge (and the VOV office!), the Palazzo Cini Gallery, plus the Punta Della Dogana Center of Contemporary Art, and close to a variety of fine eating places and bars including Ai Gondolieri and Ristorante Riviera for fine dining, and Osteria Al Squero and Cantinone Gia Schiavi for cicheti and spritz.
A short stroll to the new Conad supermarket Zattere Allo Spirito Santo and to 4 vaporetto (water bus) stops – Zattere Spirito Santo, Zattere, Salute and Accademia – for travel around the city (note that St. Mark’s Square can be reached by vaporetto from Salute in under 5 minutes on Line 1!)
Also close to the ‘traghetto’ at Calle Lanza/Calle del Traghetto S. Gregorio which, during operating hours, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the district of San Marco, and within easy reach of the Alilaguna boat stop connecting the Zattere to Venice's Marco Polo Airport.

Loved our stay at La Barufa. Well appointed apartment with all the mod cons and lots of space for our family of 5. Outside space was great and we used it every day to relax in the mornings and late evenings. Location was perfect, in a quiet spot but only a short 15 mins hop to San Marco and with bars, restaurants and a supermarket nearby. Great service from the Views on Venice staff at check in and on departure.

Our stay was absolutely amazing. The communication was fantastic. About three days before, I sent over our itinerary via text which was nice since calling service was hit or miss. Rossana met us at our water taxi and escorted us to the villa. She spent 30 minutes with us, showing us around the villa, pointing out all of the amenities. Before she left, she reviewed a map of the area and provided recommendations for dining, supermarkets, shopping and which attractions were must dos! She offered to book our private water taxi to the train station. Finally, she looked in the cabinet and realized were did not have olive oil or mosquito repellant. Thirty minutes later she returned with both! We will be back, and we will be staying with Villas on Venice each and every time. There was no better way to be immersed in the culture. I can't say enough good things.
There is no way to improve on perfection! :-)

Communication with Views on Venice was excellent. We were met at the vaporetto stop by Rossana who gave us a very thorough tour of the neighborhood and the unit. Upon entering the outer gate, we were greeted by a charming garden area , complete with sitting areas. The rooms were all very nicely appointed and well-cared for. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. A vaporetto stop was a 7 or 8 minute walk from the unit and the Doge's Palace was a 20-minute walk. If you are coming or going to the airport, I would highly recommend the private water taxi that Rossana arranged for us. Though it was pricey, it was private, very comfortable and cut down on the trip time significantly (twenty five minutes instead of an hour and 20 minutes by AliLaguna). Overall, a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend!

This gem is the only place you need to stay in Venice. The two floors are so well laid out. And the kitchen design was top notch. We were within walking distance of course to anything worth seeing.
But the best part was our own courtyard entry. A mini paradise that was private with an ivied overhang and lounge chairs and couches. Truly magical. Only hiccup was the lights weren’t working (other than the automatic motion sensor light when entering).
Such a wonderful home and city. Will come back for sure.

Garden Area is very nice .
Kitchen is sufficient and living areas are very nice.
Master shower does not have a curtain and is in a tub.
I would recommend this place .
Beware of a man that rang our gate and claimed to be a neighbor that locked himself out of his apartment and needs 27 euros to get to the city to get a locksmith .
The man is very well dressed and very well spoken and says he will return your money and bring you a bottle of prosecco.
The guy deserves an oscar award !
The man is slim with very short hair or no hair at all. Probably around 45 to 50 years of age .

We had a wonderful stay and the host was amazing at assisting with transport around town.

Our family of 5 absolutely loved this property. It's located in Dorsoduro near the Guggenheim, with vaporreto Terminals, restaurants and convenience stores all within a short walk. The house itself has been immaculately decorated, and definitely had the feel of a high end hotel in terms of quality. It was too cold for us to enjoy the garden space, but that would be an amazing place to hang out in warmer months. The rental hosts were top notch - responsive, helpful, assisted us with arranging private water taxis too/from the airport, and had a nice list of things to do and see locally. It was our favorite property over the course of our Italy travels, and we would very happily stay here again.

The property is beautiful with an incredible courtyard, the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine. Located less than 5 minutes from the Accademia Bridge, all of Venice was within easy reach with most popular attractions less than a 10-20 minute walk. Annalisa made the checkin process a breeze and Caterina met us at the dock and walked us to the property, taking the time to answer all our questions and making sure we were comfortable. When we return to Venice we hope to stay La Baruffa again!

Localisation et qualité du logement.
Manque de rangement et d'étagères dans la chambre et la salle de bain du rez-de-chaussée.

This property is beautiful and the pictures don’t truly do it justice. Walking into the beautiful garden /patio is a welcome sight. It’s beautifully maintained and well stocked. Unfortunately, due to the airline losing our luggage we had to cut our stay short to retrieve our bags. The management company was super responsive before we arrived (tours, food, recommendations, etc.) and during the whole debacle they were supportive with helping arrange taxis and being in contact while we sorted out the crazy situation. I could not have asked them for more . Whenever we return to Venice , I will definitely stay here (and carry on my luggage!)!

Ideal location
Everything was smooth and the property was even better than the pictures. The large garden is perfect for quiet time away from the crowds?

Great location and with a beautiful private garden!
My husband and I stayed at La Baruffa for a week and had a wonderful time. The private garden patio is a peaceful oasis. The apartment is compact, but is well designed. The kitchen was one of the best equipped we've seen for a rental. The appliances are of high quality and it is a kitchen that is easy to cook in. The apartment is in a sweet neighborhood with plenty of little restaurants, galleries and shops to enjoy. It is a short walk to the Zattere too. We had a wonderful time! The highlight was a sunset cruise, arranged by Views on Venice's concierge, on Captain Marco's bragozzo, a classic wooden boat. We had the great joy of visiting an artichoke farm on San Erasmo Island! A special experience, a special week with fond memories.
To us, the apartment could be improved by some use of color like in Ca' Dell' Artists. Given that it is a small, compact space, accent walls of color would liven it up and make it more welcoming inside. The colorful bathrooms upstairs with Venetian plaster are beautifully done! Loved the wood and white striped floors upstairs. The stairs need a handrail to be safe!
