About this farm stay rental

This home has history, space to spread out, modern comforts and the peace of being secluded in a wooded haven, yet restaurants are within walking distance! And, it's all yours! This is NOT a primary or shared residence. Its sole purpose is to provide you with a relaxing getaway without having to worry about host belongings or clutter! A modern kitchen with granite counter tops and amazing appliances greet you upon entry. The large formal dining room will take you back to the 1800's and feels more like a ballroom with its 11' ceilings. The stair landings will make you say "awww!" The parlor and living rooms provide main floor gathering spaces, while the former office provides a main floor bedroom. There is also a full bathroom on the main floor. We are excited to tell you that the sun room has been converted into a spa room, complete with a hot tub and sauna (separate access fee)!! The upper level has 4 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. The lower level has a more rustic feel like a pub, with natural wood beams overhead, and stone walls. The lower level also has another large bedroom as well as a full bathroom. Outside, if you didn't see it when you came in, you will find an amazing patio, complete with gas grill. That cute little cottage beside it has a queen bed, full bathroom, and kitchenette (separate access fee)! The rest of the farmstead has a large garage for our maintenance equipment. Check out the old silo beyond the parking area! Don't climb it, but stay tuned because we plan on renovating it into a lookout platform and maybe even unique additional living quarters! In our site photos, you’ll notice there are real hops growing on the side of the silo. The back pasture is more of an orchard with apple, cherry and other fruit trees that grace the property, and we have grape vines there, too.

This home was absolutely amazing!! We had 7 groomsmen, the groom and our immediate family staying here and there was plenty of room and we were never on top of each other. We had the rehearsal supper here as well and accommodated almost 50 people! Every time you turned around there was something more interesting to see (antiques, photos, and an organ!) The grounds are beautiful and the patio is a great outdoor space. We had a terrific time in this terrific house and were extremely sad to leave. karen

This quaint, historic house had everything to offer for a cozy stay, whether visiting the Southbend area or going to the game. We enjoyed: the spacious scenic property, huge dining room table, large kitchen, ecletic decoe & pictures, 3 minute walk to the Indiana-Michigan border, and so much more. There were plenty of cozy bedrooms, bathrooms, hottub & sauna, great patio, big screen TV to watch the games, etc. We loved this beautiful property, had a great time, and would definitely stay again.

We stayed here to attend our daughters wedding at Saint Joe’s farm. It was a great place to gather after all of the festivities wind down. Nice large area to sit and talk with family. Would definitely stay here again!

Plusses: Clean historic building. Lots of space that was ideal for our family (20 people total), especially the large dining room table and separate living room and sitting rooms. Upstairs bathroom is spacious along with the master bedroom. We added the sauna, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The kitchen is functional and was adequate for our needs. Building manager and contractor were both very responsive to our issues (see minuses). Minuses: Upon our arrival the water pressure was literally to a trickle. Showers could not be taken, washing dishes took an extended time, and long waits between toilet flushes. After some discussion with the contractor (who thankfully was courteous and prompt) it was discovered that there was a whole house water iron filter that had gotten plugged up. Once replaced and the appropriate valves were opened up the water pressure was back to normal. I recommend to the owners that this filter be checked and changed regularly (like, at every time change?). The biggest issue was the beds. The master bedroom had a good mattress, but all of the other bedrooms need updating. In one of the upstairs rooms my son and his wife had to put the mattress on the floor in order to sleep. If the mattress issue is resolved in the future we would consider staying here again and would recommend the property contigent to this.

First of all, the owners and the personal assistant were great to work with. Good communication, the directions to the home were very easy to follow and the property was very easy to check into. The home is a great historic property and was large enough for our group of 16 people. The dining room was perfect for our large family to gather for meals and games. The kitchen was well stocked, however, the items could use a bit up updating. We did get the use of the hot tub as well which was nice. Very easy to find and is only a few minutes from town where you could easily get anything you needed. We didn't use the internet very much as we had to keep resetting the router. We had 2 major issues and 1 minor one that would stop us from renting again. (1) The heat in the house is crazy! Even with the heaters, the main floor is either feast or famine when it comes to heat. The TV area and main floor bedroom are very warm, but the kitchen area and attached sitting room are freezing. Trying to get the heat to even out in either room was ridiculous. There is a wood stove/fireplace in the kitchen area/sitting room which you can tell was put in for heating purposes but we were not allowed to use that. The other main issue is the beds are horrible throughout the entire house. The only bed that was comfortable for any of the guests was the king bed in the upstairs main bedroom. All of the other beds literally had dipped in the middle of them and were very hard or lumpy. We had several of our group choose to find a couch to sleep on as they were more comfortable than the beds. The other minor issue was there is hardly any water pressure in the house. We learned quickly on our first day that you cannot have more than 1 person showering at a time in any of the 3 bathrooms. We understood we were renting a historic home and did so for the size which was great, however until the heat and definitely the bed situation is fixed, we would not rent this particular property again.
