Great environment and brilliant staff

Excellent dinner. Comfortable room

The view of the hills from our bedroom window. The spotless, modern shower room including walk-in shower.

Great old building. Don’t take a big car as you won’t fit the access to the car park! Nice bar. Excellent restaurant. Good room and lovely soft water for the bath.
All good.

Breakfast was good, but had it been a business trip an earlier breakfast would have been appreciated. Room was great.
Insufficient warning to guests that on Monday and Tuesday the door is locked at 9pm so if I had caught my originally planned train I might have arrived after the front door was shut and staff went home at 9pm. I had paid in full to Booking.com..
Luckily, I caught an earlier train but food service for bar meals closed at 7:20pm - earlier than the 7:30 pm expected.

Very comfortable clean rooms, nicely decorated. Nice feel.
Breakfast was apparently full at 8.30, with only 2 tables of people in the restaurant, and doors were shut to the bar at 8:45pm, as if customers were somewhat of a nuisance

It was central location and great breakfast especially the porridge.
Top floor, no lift.

Perfect location for our stay. Room was great and had all the facilities we needed
Breakfast was an extra cost and should have been in with the room price, however we were aware of this and still booked so we made the choice to do this.

The neat simplicity with a Japanese influence of black .the food was excellent as was the range of wines

Lovely hotel. The staff were lovely and very attentive. Comfy beds. Nice beer garden with lots of seating.
The pillows were awful, very thin and hard. The restaurant was nice and the menu appeared to be good but on close inspection the food choices were limited. Three out of six main courses were beef. There was one fish option but they had none left. Breakfast was not much better unfortunately.
4.5
The room was comfortable and stylish.
We were walking the Dales High Way, but this wasn’t a walkers pub. The restaurant is fancy, and we didn’t realise the room rate didn’t include breakfast. There was a breakfast menu but it didn’t include an all-in price for breakfast so it was difficult to tell how much all the separate elements would add up to. Also breakfast started at 8.30 which is a bit late when you have a long day’s walking ahead.

Beautiful building with friendly welcome and comfortable rooms
We liked it

Everything, this is really really nice inside despite the outside looking average. BIG old wooden staircase, lots of rooms, our bathroom looked new and was the best shower we had all week. Interesting bar area and lounge, full of old character yet very clean. Breakfast v good.
Breakfast was extra. Evening food not available certain days of the week or maybe just off season, this includes bar food.

Location.
Property felt a little tired. Outside needs attention. Bar closed early - around 6:00pm. Bathroom was, not great.

Excellent, interesting and innovative food.
Friendly, relaxed and knowledgeable staff

The restaurant was fantastic - very interesting and inventive menu. Be warned they offer 'Nibbles' which are like normal starter portions and then 'starters' which are like small plates and then main and dessert! Plus the wine list was fantastic with some very unusual wines on offer - which the charming waiter knew all about.
The staff were a delight. Young friendly, knowledgable and efficient
The room though simple was exceptionally comfortable (lovely bedding and comfy bed). We had a double shower in our bathroom with full sized artisan shower gels and shampoo etc
Excellent tea tray
Only thing missing for me was better lighting by the bed to read with and a magnifying makeup/shaving mirror in the bathroom. Obviously a theme here with us having older eyesight!

Great stay at the Black Bull. Welcoming and cosy in a sleepy little village. Bed was very comfy and room was nice and quiet. Do eat in the restaurant it is fabulous! Breakfast was good too with a good selection to choose from. Staff friendly and helpful.
Milk in the room is fresh and in canisters with no fridge so very quickly went off, we had to go and ask for more a couple of times. After a long walk a cup of tea is definitely needed so some UHT milk in the room would be a good back up!

nothing to dislike

The warm welcome when we arrived and the speed of checking in.
The atmosphere in the bar was very relaxed and incredibly efficient.
Dining was fabulous, the food was exceptional and the service the same.
Will definitely make a point of booking again.

Good room, pleasant staff and very good breakfast. The hotel is in a very good location amid wonderful walking country
We stayed for 2 nights, Sunday and Monday. We were able to eat dinner at the hotel on Sunday night, but told on arrival that the restaurant would be closed for the next two days, apart from serving beakfast. We were also told that the bar would probably close at about 9.00pm on the Monday night in view of the restaurant being closed. In the event, the bar did not open at all on Monday, and the gates across the door were chained closed, so we had to enter by the rear door. I do not think this is a satisfactory way for a quality venue to operate, and is not serving residents very well. This is especially so, since there is obviousy an agreement with other catering establisments in the town to offer limited service on Sunday and Monday nights, making the choice of eating and drinking very poor. I think the Black Bull should reconsider its offering of food and drink and at least open the bar every night, if only for a short period, and perhaps offer a "short" simple food menu

Lovely location, very comfortable and good quality
The room needed dusting.
