HOUSE:
Secret Harbour is located on a lovely little private boreen and sits on an elevated site overlooking the sea. It's the only house on our 7 acres of unspoilt natural countryside which is covered in red sandstone rock outcrops, with stands of oak, birch, willow, holly, rowan, rhododendron, furze, ferns and heathers. These provide glorious colour all year round and are home to a wonderful selection of wildlife that can be observed, especially early in the morning (binoculars are provided). A network of maintained tracks run through the grounds where you can stroll and enjoy the diverse nature and the wonderful views.
The house exterior has a traditional stone finish while the interior is modern and contemporary with a palette of colours, plants, pictures and furnishings that is warm, welcoming and wonderfully relaxing. The house is superbly equipped and with constant care and attention to detail we try to ensure that our guests have everything necessary for a luxuriously comfortable and memorable stay.
A paved patio, with furniture, runs along the entire rear of the house that is south facing and enjoys sunshine all day. There is a large first floor deck area that is accessed from one of the upstairs bedrooms. Views of the extensive grounds and the stunning surrounds can be enjoyed up here. This deck area is the perfect place for reading or painting, enjoying a coffee in the morning sunshine or a quiet relaxing drink in the evening. There is another deck/viewing area in the grounds that also provides spectacular sea and mountain views and is ideal for star-gazing.
ACTIVITIES:
For outdoors, the choices are super - swimming, snorkelling, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing, boat trips, hill walking, cycling, golfing, horse riding, hiking, bird watching, painting, sightseeing, all available in the area and easily organised....and for indoors, reading, painting, board games (all provided). Do let us know if you have a particular hobby or interest that you would like to do during your stay - we will be happy to advise you on the best local operators and provide contact details.
WALKING and hiking are a huge part of the outdoors in this area. There is a fantastic choice and variety of walks and treks and never enough time! We can recommend some wonderful walks in the area and the Tourist Office in Sneem village provides information and maps of the area.
The Kerry Way practically passes our door and at over 200 km, it is one of Ireland's longest signposted walking trails and also one of the most popular. It passes through some of the most beautiful and dramatic countryside and offers a spectacular choice of gentle or rugged routes - from beaches to mountains, short trails to 4 day treks!
Sneem is surrounded by mountains and Ireland's highest peak, Carrantouhill (1039 meters) and the Macgillacuddy Reeks (visible from the deck) are within easy day-driving distance from the house. Further afield on the Dingle Peninsula is Mount Brandon, Ireland's second highest mountain.
Qualified walking guides can be booked locally, on request.
KAYAKING is available locally and Snorkelling and Diving are available in the area.
Oysterbed Harbour, with its myriad of islands, is a truly magical place for these activities. The bay is sheltered and safe, and enjoys the benefits of the Gulf Stream with some wonderful wildlife - look out for the curious residents.....seals, herons, cormorants, oyster catchers and also the dolphins that regularly visit the harbour. We can recommend some local licensed operators for these activities.
Remember also to look up and you may spot the White Tailed Eagles that have been re-introduced into Ireland after an absence of almost 100 years. These majestic birds are regular visitors flying directly over the house on their foraging route between Killarney National Park and Kenmare Bay.
FISHING is very popular and Kerry is a paradise for anglers - freshwater or sea - you'll be spoiled for choice. If you ever thought of catching a salmon, then catch your first salmon while staying with us! We can recommend some local licensed operators who will advise and/or provide all you need - boat, rods, gear, licenses, ghillies, etc. for a perfect day on the water (full/half day of fishing or just sightseeing)
PLACES:
SNEEM (from the Irish word Snaidhm meaning ‘knot’) is called ‘The Knot in the Ring’. It is just 3 km from the house and is a lovely picturesque, relaxed and friendly village. Its north and south squares are divided by a bridge over the falls in the Sneem River which forms the focal point of the village and provides dramatic views especially when the river is in flood. Sneem has all the usual services of any small town or village along with lots of interesting shops, restaurants, cafes, 4 Star hotel and a wonderful selection of traditional Irish pubs. These serve great food at reasonable prices, have regular live traditional Irish music sessions and always a friendly welcome. Visit D. O'Shea's pub in the North Square where Gearbhan and Mary provide a very warm welcome, a great pint of Guinness and wonderful food that is served all day and can be enjoyed beside a roasting turf fire if the weather is cold, or in the sunshine on the deck overlooking the Sneem River.
OYSTERBED PIER is only a short walk from the house. The scenery here is breathtaking and a stroll to the pier early in the morning, where you can sit and soak up the silence, is heavenly. It is also a lovely place for swimming. Chat to some of the local fishermen who fish almost daily from the pier, and from whom you can buy some lovely fresh fish. If you would like to take in a boat trip to explore the bay, go kayaking or try some sea angling, we can suggest some local licensed operators.
PARKNASILLA 5-star Hotel and Spa, with its magnificent gardens, golf course and labyrinth of walks, is just 2km from the house. This is a nearby gem that you simply must visit. It is one of Europe's finest hotels and has a rich heritage dating back to 1692. George Bernard Shaw described it as a place that ‘does not belong to any world that you and I have ever worked or lived in. It is part of our dream world’. The word 'Parknasilla' comes from the Irish ‘Pairc na Saileac’, meaning ‘Field of the Willow Trees’. The marked pathways and tracks that wind through the hotel's extensive woodlands and islands are set amid spectacular, lush scenery. The walks are suitable for all ages, some only short routes and other taking up to 2 hours. Some, like the Fairy Path, are especially designed for children.

Sneem Secret Harbour is a beautiful and very well maintained property in a magical location. A great base from which to explore the wonderful wilderness of Kerry. We thoroughly enjoyed staying as a family there for a week, and would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful home with great amenities. Home is very well maintained and decorated with style. Lots of little touches that make the experience first class, like a collection of Welly’s (rain boots) in every possible size.
The Sun room with an amazing view is a high point of the home and the owners have taken it one step further with a viewing platform elevated above the rocks and with well groomed trails throughout the expansive property.
The owners have documented everything about the home and appliances, so nothing is confusing. The owners were easy to interact with before and during our stay.
The little village of Sneem is lovely and this home was a great “basecamp” for exploring the entire southwest portion of Ireland.
We stayed three weeks and loved it. One of the best VRBO experiences we have had we travel and rent extensively.
Can’t say enough good things about this place. Wish I could give it 7 stars.

Wonderful Stay
Lilly was exceedingly helpful with our reservation and was very accommodating with our late arrival. The location is very private yet close to Sneem where we were able to obtain all of our essential food items. She even had a few items ready for our arrival. The online photos and video provide an great opportunity to view the property however, the pictures still couldn't match being there in person. A great experience overall, we HIGHLY recommend staying at Sneem Secret Harbour.

Close to the pretty village of Sneem and also a great base for exploring the beautiful ring of Kerry - would definitely recommend this property.

What a home!!
Sneem Secret Harbour is gem awaiting your visit. This home is fantastic listing from start to finish. The contact with Lilly in advance of our arrival was extremely pleasant and helpful - no question was a problem. On arrival our hosts Lilly and Eugene were so helpful, friendly and most importantly presented a truly magnificient house. The food welcome pack was such a treat. The views from the property towards the water were magnificent and the house was kitted out so well - bedlinen, towels, kitchen equipment, fuel for the fire if needed, the house is so cosy and warm. Dont be disappointed - if it is free when you are browsing - book it!! Walks and runs are plentiful as well as a great location to base a holiday in Kerry. Thanks Lilly and Eugene - nice to meet you and thank you for sharing your beautiful home. The Mahon Family

Best We've Experienced!!
We stay at many VRBO and AIRBNB homes. Lilly's far exceeded the others. The comfort and cleanliness of the home was superb. It is well stocked with everything you need. The artwork in the home is an added bonus. A beautiful, peaceful setting. I wish all the homes we rented were this spectacular. Thanks for a wonderful get away!

Perfect house with amazing views
The house itself is set up on a hill overlooking the bay, and the views are stunning.
Inside the house is so well set up for a family holiday. All the bedrooms are en-suite and the owners provide amazingly soft towels. The beds & pillows are also really comfy.
The kitchen is so well equipped its so easy to cook meals in the house. They even provided some basics for our arrival such as bread, butter and some snacks which was a really lovely touch.
The house is beautifully decorated and clearly a lot of thought has gone into this house by the owners.
Before we even arrived Lilly and Eugene helped us by providing contact details for some local activities we could book, and then they came in person to say hello on the Sunday.
The garden is huge and there are some lovely trails that are well maintained that you can go and explore.
Would love to come back to this house again as enjoyed going out and about as much as sitting in the conservatory in the evening watching the views.

Far away but feeling like back at home in a marvelous surounding. Everything was perfect and we have appreciated very much the welcome bottle of the wine and the fridge filled by Lilly in order to have an easy start in Irland!

Attracted by the pictures we saw here on homeaway, we came with some certain expectations regarding tranquility as well as a good time to relax, but what we experiencend during our stay which lasted 13 days (too short!!) was surely a holiday far beyond our expectations and became a very special time long to remember for us all. Above all we liked this very spacious house for its magnificient views and its remote and tranquil location. Not to forget to mention that everything was very clean and more than well equipped, we missed nothing. We gratefully remember Lilly and Eugene for their outstanding and exceptional regardful hospitality and feel a strong desire to come back.

Fabulous house in a spectacular setting!
We've rented many houses/apartments in various parts of the world over the years, and this place is by far our all time favorite. The house on its own is really beautiful, tastefully decorated, and incredibly well equipped, so that alone is reason to recommend it. But the setting is above and beyond wonderful, even in December! We arrived in the dark, so the morning view out the windows was such a wonderful surprise -- mountains, water, mist, sun -- and the grounds around the house provide even more amazing vistas. We particularly enjoyed our morning walks to Oysterbed Pier. Lily and Eugene met us when we arrived and were so pleasant and helpful giving us advice about exploring the area. We really hated to leave and will do our utmost to return again soon.

Beautiful home with breathtaking views!
Words cannot express how beautiful the views are from this home. Every window has something special to offer. Whether it be the beautiful flowers, the glistening water or brilliant stars in the sky. You will not be disappointed!

Secluded yet convenient location. Beautiful house. Highly recommended.
I stayed in Sneem Secret Harbor from 9/17-9/23 2018 and loved each day living there. The house has been maintained very clean with high quality linens, bedding, appliances and furniture. It is also well decorated which makes it inviting and pleasant. What I love the most is the conservatory which has five sides with windows with beautiful views. All the windows makes it feel like you are outside in the nature yet being protected. It is a great place to relax and being absorbed by the peace and tranquility. It is also a great place to gather with family and friends as it is quite large.
The house is in a very secluded location yet it is quite convenient. Within 10-minute of walking is the pier and within 5-minute driving it is the village of Sneem which has gift stores, pubs/restaurants and small grocery stores, or, in the opposite direction, is the Parknasilla Resort who maintains some beautiful hiking trails around it. Sneem is less than one hour of driving to the wondrous Killarney National Park. For anyone who is interested in hiking in the nature Killarney NP is a great place to go. Sneem is also about 20-minute drive to Kenmare where there are several large supermarkets if you need to buy lots of groceries for cooking.
Lilly and Eugene are warm, friendly, considerate and wonderful people. Lots of thought have been put into the house to provide maximum convenience for the renters. For example there are rubber boots (they call them "Wellingtons") of different sizes in the utility room for those who wish to climb up the rocky path in front of the house or walk in wet condition; the kitchen was stocked with all the basics needed for cooking (oils, vinegar, salt, pepper ... I was impressed to find soy sauce and sesame oil!). On the day of arrival a bottle of wine was waiting for me on the table and the refrigerator was filled with freshly provided basic food such as milk, orange juice, crackers, cookies, ham, cheese .. just to name a few. They made the arrival day so much easier. On my arrival day Lilly and Eugene drove 1.5 hours to the house to greet me and provided lots of useful information about the area and where to visit. I can not ask for a better host and hostess.
I highly recommend Sneem Secrect Harbor.

Great Scenery, Even Better Comfort & Cleanliness
View from the rooms is wonderful, there is a huge secret garden to explore right outside the home (with narrow paths prepared for the explorers). A small letdown is the missing access to the sea - there is now public road down to the shore. All rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated, the furniture is well kept. Beds are extremely comfy. Lilly and Eugene (the owners) are really putting that extra effort in.

A beautiful, clean, well equipped cottage
We had a great week here, absolutely faultless! The owners have gone to great trouble to make sure the stay was fabulous. From lovely linens to leaving some goodies in the fridge for our arrival. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we felt quite at home strait away. We would definitely stay there again.

A Dream Vacation Home on the Ring of Kerry
Lilly and Eugene,
Wow, what a place for vacation!!! From the moment we pulled into the driveway and saw that heavenly view of the harbor, to the amazing interior of your home, we were blown away! Pictures on this site do not do it justice. Folks, this place is amazing! Extremely comfortable, all the luxuries, with outstanding hosts. Nothing is forgotten in this rental. You definitely will NOT be disappointed. Oh, and the village of Sneem.....quaint, friendly and easy.
Folks, the description of this property is 100% correct. Do not hesitate on this one and book early!!!!

Could not have been better----
Well, first let me say I know I'm a perfectionist.....been a problem for years. Your home, your hospitality was above and beyond what I had expected....I think we are kindred spirits:)....We loved having a home base for a week, and we especially loved walking the area after long days sitting in autos. We were so fortunate to have absolutely perfect weather...how that happened is a mystery. But thank you so much for the use of your home. My favorite part of the day was having coffee in the sunroom (or moon room if you want!)

"Home Away" says it all!
The location, house, amenities, personal touches, nearby Village, views, and owners are outstanding! Very tastefully decorated interior...we loved the owner's numerous photographs and artwork on the walls. Great floor plan. Kitchen and en suite baths were high quality. Quiet location, but very close to town, Parknasilla, Waterville, Kenmare, and an international Dark Sky Reserve for star gazing. Worth every penny!

A little corner of heaven on earth
Have just returned after a week long stay at Sneem Secret Harbour. It is difficult to do justice to this outstanding property in mere words . It has to be seen to appreciate the splendour of the location and the luxurious standard of the accommodation. It surpasses the listing description in every aspect. The location and views (different from every window) were amazing.
The house was spotlessly clean and had every convenience you could wish for -comfy furniture in both the lounge and conservatory, a particularly well fitted out kitchen and really well appointed bathrooms and spacious bedrooms. The house was beautifully decorated throughout. I must mention the very warm welcome we received from our hosts and the generous supply of foodstuffs laid on for us.
I would have no reservations about recommending this property to friends or relatives. The only problem would be that if too many people hear about it I might find it difficult to get availability when I wish to return which I certainly will.

Luxury and comfort in a stunning setting!
We – being a family of 5 – enjoyed our stay at Sneem Secret Harbour immensely, and would all love to return!
The house itself is big, bright and beautifully decorated. At the same time, everything is extremely comfortable and inviting; fantastic beds, comfortable chairs, wonderful views and an amazing kitchen, with everything you could possibly want, including a big dining table. There is even a complimentary cellular phone + a list of relevant numbers in the area, including pubs, restaurant and people arranging watersport.
It is really a place, where you just want to stay in and indulge, even though there is so much to see nearby.
Lilly and Eugene left a very generous welcome pack; clearly tailored to our family, with special treats for the kids.
The house is very private, surrounded by wonderful nature; but it is only a few minutes’ drive from the Ring of Kerry, with all its tourist attractions.

Beautiful home in a stunning location
Secret Harbour in Sneem is a lovely home with absolutely stunning views. The accommodations would make any traveler satisfied and happy with this choice of a home stay. The home is located on a secluded inlet with views of the hills. There are neighbors in sight of the home, but the property retains a, peaceful, private feeling.
We arrived late in the day and on the advice of the owners Lilly and Eugene, we drove a short distance to the community dock where we were treated to a gorgeous pink and purple sunset over the water. Upon returning home we cracked open the bottle of wine left for us, while we explored Secret Harbour.
The entire house is extremely clean, modern, and nicely decorated. The home has three beautifully-decorated en suite bedrooms each with super comfortable beds. On our nine day trip to Ireland we stayed in 3 self-catering homes, and the beds at Secret Harbour were the most comfortable by far. The mattresses were one of the best things about the home actually – and that is saying a lot, because most things were superb.
The kitchen is quite impressive. All of the appliances, cookware and dishware are of the highest quality, and there are plenty of dishes, glasses, silverware, etc. for a large group. The laundry facilities are just off of the kitchen and include a separate washer and dryer – a treat for Americans who have a hard time dealing with the small combined washer/dryers found in Europe.
Lilly and Eugene stopped by on our first morning to introduce themselves and to make sure all our needs were met. They are lovely people – warm, welcoming and full of information about the area.
Sneem itself is a small town, but has plenty of restaurants. We can’t say we were blown away with the food in town, but it was fine. The best meals we ate were at O’Shea’s and the Parknasilla Restaurant & Hotel. Speaking of the Parknasilla, it is worth a trip to see the beautiful grounds. While you’re there, check out the bathrooms – they have authentic “Crapper” brand toilets!
Of course the big draw in the area around Sneem is the Ring of Kerry – an absolutely gorgeous drive through stunningly beautiful countryside. We recommend you drive the Skellig Ring for amazing views of the Skellig Islands and shoreline. This was the highlight of the Ring of Kerry for us, at least.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Secret Harbour and would recommend the house and location to anyone traveling to Ireland. You can’t go wrong with this rental.

Best place we stayed
This was by far the nicest place we stayed in Ireland. Absolutely everything was top-notch. Everything was new, clean, well kept and very comfortable. Although (due to our delayed arrival) we were unable to meet with the owner when we arrived, everything we needed to know was written out and organized in a binder. This was very helpful for North Americans unfamiliar with European appliances.
We arrived later than expected after a long overnight flight and 3 hours' drive, expecting to have to go right out again and buy groceries, so we were pleasantly surprised to find the fridge stocked with enough food for an evening snack (wine, cheese, crackers) and breakfast (eggs, milk, cereal, bacon etc) that we did not have to venture out until we were well rested and ready to explore. The kitchen was so well equipped, I almost wished I had planned on cooking more -- we just made breakfast and snacks.
The location is a bit isolated, very private and quiet, but just a short drive to the village of Sneem, which has some great places to eat, pubs with live music in the evenings, shops. The driving in this area can be challenging for those used to North American highways, very narrow and winding, besides driving on the left; but we found the other drivers to be very patient and considerate -- and my husband loved every minute of it!
I've already recommended this house to friends and family "if you ever go to Ireland...." and would return again, given the opportunity.

Kerry Perfection
After months of perusing various cottages on websites, we chose Sneem Secret Harbor. Everything about the house is perfectly done -- a wonderful blend of design, beauty and functionality. And spotlessly clean and maintained. The owners, Lillie and Eugene, were ideal to work with. Always very prompt in responding, and full of helpful suggestions for your visit. Best of all, they met us on arrival at the house to show us around. Wine was waiting on the table, and the refrigerator was well-stocked. This is a wonderful location for couples or a family traveling together. We highly recommend Sneem Secret Harbor!

Highly Recommend Beautiful Sneem Cottage
We are a young married couple who took our first trip to Ireland this past April and stayed at Sneem Secret Harbour for a week. We found Sneem Secret Harbour on a travel booking website and chose to book it for our stay because of the great reviews on multiple travel websites, the location along the Ring of Kerry, and the beautiful photographs of the home as well as the surrounding area. We had high hopes for what the cottage would be like and we were not disappointed!
The location of the cottage was very private and peaceful. The interior of the cottage was extremely clean and modern. We were impressed with the quality of the furnishings and décor. We equated it to the quality of a high end hotel. It made for a truly comfortable stay. It was great that the cottage was only a 3 minute drive to the village of Sneem. Sneem is a lovely village with a few pubs and restaurants. We enjoyed the time we spent in the village, especially dinner and drinks at the Blue Bull Restaurant and O’Shea’s Bar. We also enjoyed taking walks on the lane leading up to the house. It was peaceful and beautiful.
The owners, Lilly and Eugene, thought of everything to make Sneem Secret Harbour a dream for a vacationer. The house was spacious but had a very cozy feeling. We enjoyed the woodstove on chilly nights and reading and relaxing in the conservatory during the day. The views out of all of the windows were spectacular!
Lilly and Eugene met us on our arrival day and showed us around the cottage and answered all of our questions about the cottage and the local area. They were kind and welcoming-so much so that they left us a bottle of wine and a refrigerator full of food for us to enjoy! That was much appreciated after our long journey from the United States.
We can’t say enough good things about Sneem Secret Harbour. We would recommend this gorgeous cottage to anyone and would love to go back in the future!

Away from it all in luxury!
If you are looking for away from it all peace and quiet in great comfort, this is the place! Fantatsic views across bays and mountains, together with a very warm welcome, brilliantly equipped house, lots of maps and guides, games for the odd damp day and a well stocked fridge made this a house where you could roll up with nothing more than your suitcase - ideal for those coming from overseas.

Lovely house in beautiful Kerry
We had really high expectations of this holiday home and we were not disappointed. The house itself has a superb location in a lovely, quiet setting, and close to the delightful village of Sneem where you can find all you need for your stay as well as great places to eat and drink (don't miss O'Shea's Bar).
We found lots to do in a week that went by all too quickly - local walks, rides on the beach (Derrynane), boat trips in Kenmare - or just chilling in the very comfortable house which is modern and very well equipped but full personal touches of decor. Everyone was happy - boring parents and hard to please teenagers. The owners couldn't have been more helpful. Great place - would love to go back to this house and this beautiful part of Ireland.

The perfect reinroduction to the western world
Our family of six stayed at Sneem Secret Harbour for a couple of weeks as we transitioned from living in East Africa for a couple of years to life back in the US. This was the perfect spot to unwind, relax and enjoy county Kerry. The house itself is impeccable and the hosts go to great lengths to be sure you have everything you need for your stay -
a local cell phone for emergencies
a binder with tons of information on all surrounding restaurants and attractions (complete with reviews)
a welcome hamper so that you have something to nibble your first day
extra towels and linens
a WELL stocked kitchen for cooking and eating in the house
beautifully appointed rooms
In general we loved Sneem as well. It is small but not so small as to feel claustrophobic and is located in a central enough way to allow for a huge amount of exploration within an hours drive. We became regulars, in the short time we visited, at one of the local pups and found the locals to be kind and welcoming.
The things we did not like about the vacation were unavoidable and had nothing to to with the vacation home. The weather was pretty bad during all of our visit BUT that was made easier to handle by having a warm and cozy home with ample enough grounds to explore when we did not want to venture too far out. Obviously the tour buses filling the towns and the crowds doing a 30 minute stop-over were annoying but that is UNAVOIDABLE anywhere near the Ring of Kerry in the summer and parts of Spring. The house itself is not far from the center of the village and we did make the walk a few times but without sidewalks and a few blind corners we were pleased that we had a car. That being said if we were much closer we would have been in the thick of the tour buses and as we were looking for peaceful relaxing it worked our perfectly.
So if you are looking for beautiful scenery, rest, relaxation close to a village without being right above the pub than SSH is for you. If we find ourselves in the area we will certainly be back as we made many wonderful memories as a family in this lovely little (not to little) house. The natural splendor surrounding the house made for a wonderland for our children (best if older) and the home itself was all we were looking for - a great example of the best of what homeaway can offer.

A jewel in Kerry
We spent a wonderful week at "Sneem Secret Harbour". This house is worth a 5-star hotel. The bedrooms are very large, each having its owm bathroom which is very convenient with teenagers! Beds are extremely comfortable. The kitchen is more than generously equipped. The living room is vey cosy and the view from the "conservatory" is stunning. The house is very tastefully decorated, with many wonderful photos of Kerry landscape. The location is very private but still not too far from the lively village of Sneem. This is the ideal place to explore Kerry, go for a beautiful walk, go fishing, horseriding etc. The very friendly welcome of Eugene & Lilly Ross is another plus, together with all the precious advice they gave us. We would advise this house to all nature lovers looking for top quality accomodation.
