The unique design of Satinwood's energy and water system provides year-round comfort.
Even during times of periodic drought, the massive water collection area, huge cisterns, and use of Clivus Multrum composting toilet systems assure plenty of fresh, clean water for drinking, washing, and of course, relaxing in the cool swimming pool.
Each of two main floor bedrooms have one king size bed, complete bathroom, plus ladder accessible loft with two twin beds (suitable for ages 6 and up).
Larger parties will also be able to use the studio apartment downstairs as a third bedroom. That apartment has a king bed and full bath.
Outside on the sunny pool deck, lounge chairs, umbrella table, and gas barbecue grill make for the perfect vacation day or evening.
Satinwood is a regular visit for many of our guests. It is so beautiful, visitors come back year after year.

Guests were super comfortable, had everything they needed, amazing location, best vacation. The property had beautiful sunrises, well-stocked kitchen, comfortable house with great views. Owners were responsive and accommodating.

Property was as just as stated. Fit well for our family of 4 adults and 3 children. Easy to find, easy access to beaches, easy access to East end. Kitchen was very well equiped, barbeque worked well.
A few screens need to be repaired for reinstall, we did a couple, the smoke alarms needed attention and a few lights did not work properly. Regardless we all had a great time and thank you for sharing your lovely home and view!

This was our 4th trip to St. John and we found Satinwood to be by far the best property and location we have stayed. The sunrises are beautiful as are the views of Coral Bay, Norman Island, Peter Island and other smaller islands. The house is very comfortable and very well stocked for cooking at the house, and was perfect for our party of 2 older couples. Wonderful porches/balconies with a great pool area as well. The multrum toilets were not a problem for us. The breezes kept the house at a comfortable temperature so we did not need or miss air conditioning. Had it not been for the temporary road work going on the whole week, we would have had the perfect vacation. We would definitely go back again, and highly recommend for couples, as well as families with kids who don’t mind climbing ladders to get to the upper bedrooms.

Excellent location and provided us with wonderful accommodation on a wonderful vacation. The mosquitos and bugs were a bit to deal with and one of the beds (sleep number mattress) went flat every night. No 'no flush - natural toilets' caught a couple of our guest off guard. So maybe that could be better explained in the property description - or perhaps we just missed it while looking at the beautiful pictures. Missing that great sunrise view already...

We loved our stay in this house. We chose the Coral Bay end of the island to avoid the noise, and it was perfect. We slept to the noise of frogs, with gentle breezes blowing through the louvre windows. Our concern for the impact of travel on the environment meant this house with its solar power, composting toilets and gentle footprint was ideal.
Our family enjoyed the great room and there is plenty of privacy with the bedrooms being at different ends of the building. We prepared many of our meals, and the kitchen is well equipped to do this.
We experienced some excessive enthusiasm from the Noseeum's/mosquitoes and the management company responded immediately.
Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home.

The photos don't do it justice. This property is perched atop a ridge high above Coral Bay. We had a constant sea breeze so we were never too hot. The views are spectacular day and night. We had two little ones with us who enjoyed the pool. Long drive up the ridge and tricky driveway, but we managed just fine in our four door jeep. Composting toilets are no problem at all; keep the lid closed and you won't smell a thing (even with the lid open not bad). We were missing some outdoor seat cushions, so we had to bring indoor furniture out to enjoy the serene balcony. The management company was kind and responsive. Only downside to our trip was that many restaurants were closed so the ones we went to typically had very long waits and slow service. So given how lovely things are at Satinwood, I would recommend picking up groceries and cooking at the villa! If I close my eyes I can still feel the rejuvenating effects of Satinwood:)

We loved our stay at Satinwood! Our teenage kids asked for something more “adventurous” than the Westin where we typically stay. The views from the house are spectacular, we had plenty of space - each kid (ages 8, 13) took a bunk and the older (16) slept in what was basically a second master. We never had any issues with the power, the toilets were also a non-issue and we never noticed the lack of A/C as there is a breeze through the house at all times. (We visited in June) It was great for all of us to experience living off the grid. Staying on the Coral Bay side of the island was also a huge plus - quiet beautiful beaches with great snorkeling and hiking all around. I would highly recommend trying to get a Jeep as the road up the mountain to the house is steep. If you are going to Saint John to experience the rugged raw beauty of the island, this is a great house!

Over all came as advertised. We were relocated for the first 3 nights due to a generator failure. We were moved (after asking to stay and not relocate) to the villa we originally booked on the fourth night stating the generator was fixed. Original thoughts were the place was as advertised, and the view was great. The generator was not working properly though as we lost power 4 out of the 5 nights around 4 am. The management team responded quickly to the inquiry and sent someone to look at it. He told us he believed the pool filter was running all night, draining the energy. He stated he fixed it, although we continued to lose power every morning. I did not follow up about it, since it didn't seem to make a difference. Overall it was exactly as advertised, the staff was very helpful when contacted. I truly believe they did the most they could with what they had. There were a few negatives that were I'm sure beyond the control of the management team. With no air conditioning it was not too hot with fans running, but without power and fans, It did get very warm early in the morning. The humidity was so intense that the bed sheets always felt wet, unable to be dried (soaking up air moisture). About midway through the booking, I found a spider big enough to be paying rent in my room. I identified it as a Calisoga, false tarantula. The Biggest spider I have ever seen in my life, and had no clue how it got in my room. My friend also found a giant cockroach in his room. Im guessing they sprayed for pests before our arrival, forcing this and the spider out of hiding. I have a fear of spiders, so this one made me lose some sleep. Having said the above, I understand these species are common on the island and I'm sure are found in most older villas. I would recommend this place for people who don't mind it truly being an "Eco villa", as the view was incredible, the pool was nice, and it was very spacious. If you have alot of insect or lizard phobias, and have a need for constant reliable power at night, I would recommend another property. Either way would recommend renting under the management team that provided the booking. Thank you Jim and Lisa for the time spent helping.

Breathtaking views, the owner was very gracious during a historically difficult time. We arrived just before the COVID 19 pandemic. The owner gave us extra time at a discounted rate so we could make the best travel arrangements for our family. The management company was spot on in every aspect. We loved the Eco home experience. It has made us more aware of our energy use at home. We were able to see the island like very few get to see. Cant wait to get back to love city; the owner, locals and management company made us feel like family. See ya soon.

Our family, to include myself, my husband our two children and even my parents visited for a week at the end of February 2020. Cute and comfortable place, we really enjoyed it! The view is out of this world! Whether we were having dinner at the dinner table, sitting out on the spacious balcony or lounging by the pool, you have a perfect view over Coral Bay, amazing! Very private, no neighbors that you can see from the house. The property managers did a bang up job showing us to the house from the ferry, they even offer a provisioning service (among many others) that we took advantage of. They had the fridge stocked with essentials to get us started when we arrived. Once we got to the house, she showed us around and helped us get acclimated which was nice. Before we left on our trip, we had so many questions, I mean LOTs of questions, the home owner was so great with providing detail, and responding quickly, very nice exchanges that were immensely helpful and appreciated. The house could use some minor updates and a little TLC (tender loving care) here and there but overall, a warm, inviting, private get away home with a beautiful view! We loved the stay and we loved the island! We were first timers! Also, happy that we chose Saint John over Saint Thomas!
P.S. The toilets were absolutely fine! :-)
