- Stylish interior design
- Room is relatively spacious
- Welcome drinks at the bar
- Frosted windows that don't black out so was only able to get a few hours of sleep
- No TV
- No restaurant in the hotel
- In-room breakfast service was ok but food was cold
- Under-staffed hence long waiting times at check-out
- Parking is expensive and the allocated space is worse than street parking
With the same price range, you can book a 5-star hotel which is miles better than this one in terms of hardware and services. This is more like a B&B than a hotel. No way this is classified as 5-star on Booking.com and you can easily find other much better hotels in the city at half the price. Genuinely don't understand the high ratings given by other people, definitely will not stay again.

The hotel very stylish, girls from reception were very friendly and helped us with everything-restaurants bookings, any information. Room was very big and white with amazing garden. We didn’t hear anything in this room, it’s a very quite place. We slept like a babies, bed was unbelievably comfortable, pillows were amazing. Every day cleaning, you have everything in your room and even more. All details were so touchable. Highly recommend this place !
Nothing, all was just perfect!

The room was clean and well kept.
In terms of offering suggestions or travelling advice around Kyoto, the service staff seemed a little reluctant and simply advised on taking the taxi.

The architechture is brilliant and the room was very clean! The hotel is also very quiet! The breakfast was excellent and every day varied! The personal is very nice and polite!
the rooms have frosted glasses, so you can‘t look out of the window.
And because there is only roomservice you don‘t see any other guest all the time

The interior only and that’s why we booked!
They absolutely know we are couples, and still they gave us a room with 2 beds sticking to each other as if no body going to know!
the concierge is so poor!
food is so poor!
no restaurants in the hotel ! room service food menu is horrible, they serve fish for breakfast!
no tv! no blackout with the curtains!
location wise, it’s between buildings and in a street that none of the caps recognizes!!
simply dead place.

We would have liked to choose our breakfast but we were not asked. The location was not good or convenient. No taxi driver knew it and got lost every time they took us back. The one way street does not help
Better breakfast choice and location was not good

Beautiful sleek hotel, very relaxing, quiet and incredibly clean!
I accidentally booked a room without an outside view. My room window only allowed light in but the window was frosted so I couldn’t see out. Make sure your room has a view of the garden or city.

Comfortable bed. Incredible design. Friendly staff.
Little bit hidden away in a residential area. Mis-matched sizing for provided bed clothing. Amenities (soaps, body wash, shampoo etc) were a little too botanical and irritated our skin/scalp. Bar was a bit smaller than it looked online, and a limited selection. Bit too expensive for what it actually offered, and seemingly too focussed on the property looking great at the expense of customers’ genuine enjoyment whilst staying.

There’s no one at the reception when you need it! They leave it alone, specially at night. There was s noght that our card to enter didn’t work and if we’re not carrying an extra one, you don’t enter.
There’s no TV in the room, there’s no gym or restaurant, which is very bad for the price you pay
When you order the breakfast, paying for it, they bring it to you at 10 am, that’s ridiculous.
After all, they charge us 4000 yen for telling us we lost two card keys. I don’t know if we really did. But, we trabel all ober the world and even in japan anyone never even ask for the card keys back. That’s not an elegant thing to do in a 5 star hotel.
We hate it all!!!!

First time back in Japan in almost three years. Decided to stay at very modern, high design, Mogana this time because of all the positive reviews. The location is not as convenient as some other hotels but it gave me a chance to see a less tourist filled side of Kyoto with lots of side alleys that made the whole experience more of a discovery. I arrived by taxi after the Haruka express from Kansai airport and check in was quick and efficient. The room looked exactly as it does in photos. Minimalist glass pod. Onsen style black granite bathtub. Lighting is a bit too fluorescent for me, for a hotel room (room 602) the lighting used should be more warm (I had to filter photos for my photo album). Aircon was also a bit loud at night. Otherwise I was quite happy with my choice, especially liked the rock garden outside with the courtyard plants wall that allowed a peak at the sky, the frosted glass in front of the bed allowed in muted sunlight, all very clever modern yet Japanese aesthetics.
Lighting too fluorescent. Air con can be loud at night
