About this house rental
The highest residence in The Grampians, and the oldest in the district, Adair is a 4 bedroom 1930s historic homestead. The property backs on to The Grampians National Park and offers stunning views from the spacious verandahs. This historic property sits on 11 hectares (25 acres) of mostly clear pasture and fruit trees that abounds with kangaroos, emus, deer and birds, and is fringed by bushland and the national park.
Adair provides the best of both worlds: bushwalking* and rock climbing* begin at the back door; or you may be interested in all that the district has to offer including: the Halls Gap Zoo, local wineries, local produce, restaurants and artist studios.
Only 13 km from Halls Gap, Adair offers the best of The Grampians without the crowds.
Adair has accommodation for 10 people with 3 queen beds and two sets of bunk beds. It has three bathrooms: one bathroom is ensuite; the second boasts a shower and toilet; and the third, a toilet and a deep clawfoot bath - the perfect way to relax after a strenuous walk or a long day's sightseeing.
The kitchen is well equiped, with a large 90cm electric oven and induction cooktop, a dishwasher, microwave and coffee maker (bring your own blend) as well as a full compliment of cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery and glasses and mugs. A cosy wood heater, gorgeous bay window seat and a long table that seats 10, makes it a perfect place to hang out with friends and family, chatting over a glass of wine or cups of tea or coffee made with the crystal-clear mountain spring water that supplies all the house's needs.
The lounge room comfortably seats 10, has a 50 inch smart TV and a reverse-cycle air conditioner for year round comfort and a cosy wood heater for those cooler months.
A 5 burner barbecue and comfortable outdoor furniture provide perfect alfresco dining on the spacious verandah, with an unparalleled views over the surrounding farmlands and out to the distant horizon.
Guests have unrestricted access to all areas on the property. In the house they are free to enjoy the lounge room with TV, DVD player, and a large selection of board games and unlimited free wifi access. A front-loading washing machine is also available for guests to use.
The 25 acre property has several walks for people with varying degrees of fitness, from a leisurely 1/2 hour perimeter stroll through the property's diverse range of habitats, to a more rigorous accent of Mt Cassell in the bordering national park.
* Guests arriving in 2024 should note that a bushfire devastated the area around Adair on February 13, 2024 destroying 48 homes in our tiny hamlet and severely impacting the surrounding countryside. While Adair survived completely intact and offers the same level of comfort and convenience as before the blaze, the scars of the fire are obvious and many of the walks from the property are no longer viable. Absolutely loved the stay at Adair! Wonderful country comfort, stunning views, and abundant wildlife. Already planning the next visit!

We loved the property. Its location is amazing with stunning views and wildlife all round. The period features of the property were appreciated and the layout is ideal for multiple groups meeting up and staying together. The property is supplied with everything you need in the kitchen (coffee machine with ground coffee provided!) and fireplaces have little kits with them for easy lighting and ample wood. There are games and books to keep any ages entertained if the weather isn’t great.
Communication was great and whilst visiting Pomonal after the recent bush fire was humbling and sad, Adair stands proudly untouched.
Lots to do locally and this will suffice short or long stays.

We have been coming to Adair usually during the month of June (my birthday) for many years now. It is our absolute favourite home away from home. We love the country comfort of Adair and spend most of our time at the house although there is a wealth of things to see and do in the vicinity. At this time of year we enjoy making use of the fireplaces in the kitchen and living room and we so appreciate the electric blankets on the beds! The window seats in the main bedroom and the kitchen are always in demand as perfect places to relax and read a book and take in the beautiful surroundings and watch the abundance of bird and wildlife. There are great walks to do from the property itself and incredible options within a reasonable drive. I always enjoy the beautiful sunrises with a cuppa from the front deck and in the evening you can enjoy the gorgeous colours in the sky from the sunsets that take place behind the mountain. Larger family and friendship groups will appreciate the 3 bathrooms :) We love the newly renovated kitchen with the big oven and increased counter space and the luxury of a dishwasher! As always we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Adair and cannot wait to return!

This was our second time staying at Adair Historic Homestead and we loved it just as much as the first time. Location was great, house was lovely, spacious and comfortable. Gorgeous views all around, it was lovely having a coffee on the porch in the morning watching the sunrise and the animals (kangaroos, emus and deer) grazing!
The hosts Catherine and Mike were great. We had to contact them during our stay and they responded very quickly and were very easy to communicate with.
We look forward to staying again and recommend it to others.

Superb period homestead set in a wonderful, nature lovers dream. Lots of kangaroo, emu and deer plus many species of birds in the private grounds running to the mountain. Inside, the home would benefit from a deep clean, redecorating and broken glass replaced

The most beautiful farmhouse with the most stunning views. Extremely enjoyable stay relaxing by the fires. Will definitely be back.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Adair. The bedrooms were spacious and warm ( with help from the heaters and electric blankets ) and the beds were comfortable.
Once we had got the fire in the kitchen going, we more or less lived there - it was so blissfully warm.
The view and surroundings were amazing, and being able to hop the fence and walk in the Grampians NP was an added bonus.
There is so much to do in the area a three night stay was never going to be enough, so hopefully we will be able to return some day soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Adair. We were expecting a few more to join us here for the weekend but they pulled out due to illness and other reasons so we (four adults) had the whole house to ourselves.
Loved the house, charming, spacious with high ceiling, 3 bathrooms, fireplace in the kitchen very handy on cold days, so good!
Kitchen is well equipped which we liked as we like some meals in. There is a coffee machine in the kitchen. We bought some coffee from the Pomonal general store and made our own café quality coffee at home! Just a heads up, bring your own milk or buy some from store before coming...
Great location for us, we loved the scenery outside and enjoyed our morning coffee admiring the views and cute animals that come around to say hi! It was a great position, secluded for a relaxing stay, but close to Halls Gap and other nearby attractions.
We loved it, highly recommend it and we'd love to stay again.

Adair was the perfect house for our two young families, great layout, plenty of space and was cosy and warm with the fires going. The location on the edge of the grampians was amazing, a fantastic view from the verandah and with no neighbours in sight, yet not far from some great attractions. We loved being surrounded by kangaroos, emus, deer, eagles and other birdlife.

We had a two night stay at Adair and it was a wonderful experience. We loved that the house has retained its connection with its 1930s origins. Each room is beautifully preserved and we particularly like the large country kitchen and dining area.
We had a barbecue on the front verandah, watching the sunset over the surrounding countryside. Such a beautiful landscape. You can see for miles. As we ate dinner, kangaroos grazed peacefully on the grass in front of the house and emus wandered past.
I could not recommend this place highly enough. We hope to return for another stay one day.

We loved staying at Adair. The old world feel and natural beauty combined to create the perfect atmosphere. The verandah was a delightful place to work, play and eat, and the bedrooms were spacious and carefully decorated. We will be back.

Perfect place if you are stuck with foul wet weather. Plenty of room to spread out and the fires going what more do you need. A beautiful piece of the Australian bush.

The place to relax
Adair is a fantastic property in the Grampians. Close enough to everything you want to do, but far enough to be in the middle of nowhere.
The house has lots of character and space, and everything you could possibly want for a home away from home.
The local wildlife and the views are the cherry on the top!

Christmas in the Grampians
We had such an amazing 4 night stay over Christmas. Secluded location yet not too far from the heart to the Grampians. Got to enjoy the lakes, the hikes. Made sure to hike Mt Casell before we left. Adairs did not disappoint with the amazing views, emus and kangaroos everywhere you turned. Definitely an experience to remember.

Very well equipped house in a tranquil location, wonderful views, resident native animals and birds
Though we visited during rainy weather the wide verandahs of this high set house made for a tranquil stay connected to the surrounding environment. There was little need to leave the property as the numerous species of birds and native animals were always around and the walks up the mountain from the house-park boundary offered stunning views. The kitchen is very well equipped, the rooms very clean and easily warmed, and reference books and information brochures on local attractions made available. We have already booked our next stay.

This was just a superb place to stay. The location is amazing - views everywhere, and the property is clean and tidy with a real touch of history. Waking up to the emus and kangaroos so close had us people from lockdown in Melbourne appreciating Australian life again. The owners, Catherine and Mike, were very easy to deal with, and everything was there that we needed.Thoroughly recommended - and we will be back.

Absolutely stunning views!!!
The place looks so beautiful and loved the views. We did lots of excursions around the house and everything was easily accessible. The place was clean and fully equipped. Loved the map and information desk as it was so useful. We had an amazing experience with a BBQ night with amazing views from the deck, stargazing and treks. Thank you the experience and being so polite with all my questions.

Incredible getaway
We had a wonderful and relaxing time at this property. I saw animals that I have only seen in zoos wondering around and up close. It was such a wonderful experience. The house had everything we needed and the location was great. You had to drive everywhere but that was fine. If we were closer to town or the main road, we may not have seen all the wildlife we saw. Communication with the owners was smooth and efficient. There was plenty of tv options to entertain my daughter as well. The bbq was clean and could do a cook up for an army. I recommend staying here.

Serenity in scenic surroundings
We were a party of 2 and1/2 couples and found the house to be very comfortable and well stocked for cooking. We got to use the fire in the kitchen which made the stay that much more comfortable. The lounge had plenty of seating and netflix was a great addition.
Drinks on the deck watching the views and the wildlife was just what we needed after a long day trecking through the trails. Thoroughly recommend this place for families and/or friends.

Great people to deal with.

Picturesque, quiet location
This was our second stay at the property, and we all enjoyed it as much as the first time. With six females, the addition of the ensuite was excellent...there are now three bathrooms. The kitchen had everything we needed; beds were comfortable, but it’s the views and the peacefulness that draw you back.
