In August 2016 we opened our holiday home in Monschau-Kalterherberg in the Eifel. The former farmhouse with barn was completely renovated between March 2015 and July 2016 and extensively converted into a modern and cozy holiday home on two floors with about 110 square meters of living space. It is located about 300 meters from the center in a quiet location. Parking is available directly at the house, bicycles can be safely parked in the barn.
The Hohe Venn (high moorland) and the Eifel National Park are just a few minutes away. Many beautiful hiking and biking trails (RurUfer cycle path, Vennbahnradweg) lead directly past our place.
Our equipment:
The house is centrally heated with a modern pellet stove. Wood pellets must be refilled occasionally.
Fully furnished country kitchen with all the usual electrical appliances (oven, dishwasher, ceramic hob with hood, large fridge ,, microwave, toaster, coffee machines, etc.) and a basic set of spices, Spültabs etc. Big table for seven people.
Cozy living room with reading corner, couch, satellite TV (40 "), Bluray player, radio, electric fireplace.
Three bedrooms (one a walk-through room) with a total of 7 beds on two floors (2 double beds, 3 single beds in the children's room). The bedroom on the ground floor also has a spacious washing area. All beds / bedding (except extra bed) including the mattresses are suitable for allergy sufferers. Maximum occupancy: 4 adults, 3 children (1 additional cot possible).

Two bathrooms incl. WC, some with underfloor heating, bathtub, walk-in shower, changing table
Play area with many games, Lego, Playmobil, wooden blocks and a Wii. Games room with pool billiards, table football and darts. There is also a large selection of board games in the living room. Even if the sun does not shine, there should be no boredom.
Outside there is a garden trampoline, slackline, children's swing, small playhouse, sandpit and vehicles.
On the furnished terrace you can play garden chess and a large charcoal grill is available.
WLAN with a transfer rate of 16 Mbps is included.
In addition, a washing machine, dryer, ironing board, iron and a freezer, as well as a travel cot and 2 children's high chairs are available free of charge. High quality linen and towels are provided.
The village center with supermarket, bakery, butcher, pizzeria, bistro, restaurant, bank, post office and family doctor is about 300 meters away.

We had a great stay,the property was fantastic and the large garden was great for the kids to run around in. There is loads to do in the local area and 2 weeks was mot long enough to see it all!

Jochen's holiday house was a comfortable place to stay away from the throngs of tourists but still be close enough to Monschau for us to visit it as often as we wanted.
The food around us was good, the pizza restaurant was excellent and extremely affordable. We've gotten a taste for Bitburger beer, thanks to Jochen's introduction to it and we will be buying it at home from now on too.
The house is amazing, a great place to spend a day when it's raining with all the games to play with the family and we really unwound.
The neighbourhood was beautiful, neat, clean and very friendly - everyone we met greeted us.
Our only gripe is that we can't move there permanently.
Other things we did were to go to Aachen's cathedral, the Lindt factory, Monschau and the local waffle shop at the abandoned rail (with the rail bikes) which was a short walk across the border into Belgium.

We had an great stay in holiday home Schmedte. The house was spotless clean, very well equiped and cosy. The owners are excellent hosts.
The house is great in all seasons, we stayed in winter and there was plenty of entertainment for both adults and children and the house was lovely and warm. We can only recommend. Thanks a lot, Jochen and Natalie!

Traumhafter Kurzurlaub inkl. Schnee
Die Beschreibung des Hauses trifft zu 100% zu. Es ist einfach ein toll gelegenes, mit viel Liebe renoviertes Haus, welches den Charme der Vergangenheit nicht verloren hat. Der Wohn- Essbereich mit dem modernen Pelletofen, die Küche inkl. der Ausstattung die keine Wünsche offen lässt, bis zum Wohnzimmer mit gemütlicher Couch, Sessel, TV, Spielekonsole und heimeligem Elektrokamin. Zwei Bäder auf dem neusten Stand sowie gemütliche Schlafzimmer mit bequemen Betten. Hier passte einfach alles. Noch zu erwähnen ist das Spielezimmer mit Billiard, Kicker, Dart und riesen 4-gewinnt. So kann man -auch als Erwachsener- auch einen trüben Nachmittag vergessen. Wer lieber Brett- oder Kartenspiele bevorzugt, findet im Wohnzimmer ebenfalls eine reichhaltige Auswahl. Eine tadellose Sauberkeit sowie der freundliche & herzliche Empfang durch den Vermieter Herrn Leyendecker, runden das ganze Wochenende ab.

Wir waren bereits zum zweiten Mal bei Leyendeckers und waren wieder sehr zufrieden.
Es ist wirklich ein absolutes Kinderparadies mit vielen tollen Spielsachen für drinnen und draußen.
Auch wir Erwachsene haben den Urlaub sehr genossen.

A wonderful house in a beautiful location!
We spent a fortnight in this fantastic house. Everything about the house was excellent. Firstly, the location is great. The scenery is wonderful, trees everywhere and lovely lakes and reservoirs not too far away. It is perfect for walking and cycling. The village itself has everything you need; a small supermarket, a bakery, a cash point, a restaurant and a pizzeria. The town of Monschau itself is a short drive away. It looks like something from a fairy tale! The house couldn't be faulted. We were there during some very hot weather, but the downstairs always stayed nice and cool. It is very well equipped. The children were particularly well catered for. There was so much for them to play with. Outside, there is a swing set, a goal with net, a huge trampoline, a sandpit, ride-on toys, a giant chess set. Inside there are lots of toys and games appropriate for pre school and primary aged children. For slightly older children, there is a pool table, table football, an electronic dartboard and also a Wii with a selection of games. Everything was of a really high quality in the house. The beds were extremely comfortable. Importantly at this time of corona virus, everything was sparkling clean when we arrived. The owners were extremely helpful and communication was excellent. They were able to answer all our questions, provided advice if we needed it and came to check if everything was ok for us. Overall, we had a wonderful holiday and would love to return to this property again.

Unglaublich gut ausgestattete Ferienwohnung mit vielen Spielzeugen für die Kinder, Schaukel und Trampolin im Garten.
Es war wundervoll, die Gegend ist perfekt um herunterzubekommen, zu entschleunigen und um einfach zu genießen. Die Gastgeber unglaublich aufmerksam und freundlich.

Ein schönes Ferienhaus
Wir haben es genossen in Kalterherberg zu sein. Das Ferienhaus war sehr schön, sauber und sehr komplett. Alles was man benötigt, ist da. Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich und hilfreich. Man fragt regelmäßig ob man noch was braucht und ob alles gut geht. Alles zusammen kõnnte es nicht besser gewesen sein. Fünf Sternen.

Ein Ort zum verweilen
Wunderbares, liebevoll eingerichtetes Haus das ein Paradies für Kinder darstellt. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und werden hier nicht das letzte Mal Gast gewesen sein. In Fußnähe sind Bäcker und Supermarkt vorhanden. Der Ort und die Umgebung lädt zum Wandern ein, Radfahrer kommen hier auch auf Ihre Kosten,

Sehr schönes und gemütliches Ferienhaus
Wir haben ein sehr gemütliches Winter-Wochenende mit zwei Familien (vier Erwachsene, drei Kinder) in Kalterherberg verbracht. Das Haus ist perfekt ausgestattet mit ganz viel Spielsachen und Büchern und einer gemütlichen und voll ausgestatteten Küche mit einem flackernden Pellet-Ofen. Der Kontakt mit Familie Leyendecker wahr sehr freundlich. Wenn der Schnee nicht ganz so üppig fällt wie erhofft, lohnt sich ein Spaziergang durch das schöne Örtchen mit den urigen Rotbuchen-Hecken. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, Bäcker etc. sind fußläufig erreichbar. Wir kommen im nächsten Schnee-Winter gerne wieder.

Our favorite getaway!
Our family (three kids and visiting in-laws) have stayed at this property for two consecutive years now, while visiting the Monschau Christmas Market. Just like last year, I could not have been more happy with the house and remain truly impressed by the efforts taken by the hosts to make this such a welcoming property. The cleanliness, amenities, and thoughtful details make the home perfect for a visiting family—our kids particularly enjoy the upstairs game room. I hope to make another trip here soon—maybe in the Summer, when we can enjoy all of the surrounding outdoor activities. This is definitely now our family’s favorite getaway!

Ideaal vakantiehuis in een mooie rustige omgeving
Mooie locatie. Wij verbleven er met 2 pubers, een klein kindje en 4 volwassenen. Grote tuin en de speelzoldzr was de max. Ideaal om te wandelen en fietsen in natuurpark Eifel en de Hoge Venen.
De verhuurder was zeer attent en vriendelijk.

Great set up for families with children. Very comfortable, well equipped and maintained.
Lovely property, particularly well set up for families with children. We stayed one week with our two boys - 4 and 7 - and they couldn't wait to get home each day. Imagine it would be great for older kids too. Nicely decorated and maintained throughout. Kitchen well equipped. Games room a hit - table football a favourite but also pool, darts and a games console for those with older families. Great little play area with good selection of toys in one of the bedrooms. Garden and outside toys ideal for young children. Good bakery in the village. Friendly place despite our very limited German. Plenty to do within a half hour drive. Area interesting naturally and historically. Exceeded expectations.

Großes geräumiges Haus mit schönem Grundstück
Wir (4 Erwachsene und 2 Kinder im Grundschulalter) haben uns in dem Haus sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Haus ist sehr schön und liebevoll eingerichtet. Spielmöglichkeiten gab es für die Kinder jede Menge (sowohl drinnen als auch draußen). Besonders bemerkenswert war die Ausstattung. WLAN, Blue-ray, WII, Billard, Dart, Tischkicker, Spielzeug und unzählige DVD's, CD's, Spiele, Bücher, Zeitschriften. Die Unterkunft ist für Familien mit Kindern absolut empfehlenswert. Die Lage war für uns vor allem für Ausflüge ins Hohe Venn und den Nationalpark Eifel ideal.

Gemütliches Ferienhaus für Groß und Klein
Das Haus bietet eigentlich alles was das Herz begehrt für Groß und Klein. Besonders gut ist das Angebot an Spielsachen für Kinder, sowohl im Haus wie auch draußen.
Einziger Nachteil ist, dass das Haus teilweise sehr hellhörig ist, was unsere Kinder aber nicht beim Schlafen gestört hat.

Wunderschönes Haus, sauber und komfortabel
Das Ferienhaus bietet alles was das Herz begehrt. Die Küche ist komplett eingerichtet und man vermisst wirklich nichts. Das Schlafzimmer im EG hat einen eigeneb Waschplatz und ist sehr gemütlich eingerichtet. Das Schlafzimmer oben ist ein Durchgangszimmer, was aber eher ein Vorteil ist wenn man mit Kindern vereist. Die schlafen nämlich im hinteren Zimmer. Auf der Galerie befindet sich noch ein gemütlicher Sessel. Hier lässt es sich sehr gut lesen. Im Schlafzimmer ist noch eine Spielecke zu finden. Und am Schlafzimmer anschließend befindet sich ein Raum mit einem Kicker und Billardtisch. Die Zeit vergeht also auch bei Regen sehr schnell und die Kinder sind beschäftigt. Neben Büchern gibt es auch noch eine Auswahl an DVDs und eine Wii.
Die Bäder sind ein Traum. Das große Bad bietet richtig viel Platz. Ein Highlight für uns war der vorhandene Wickeltisch und die begehbare Dusche. Mit Kleinkind kann man kaum besser wohnen. Auch der Garten ist wunderschön. Schaukeln, Trampolin, Fahrzeuge, Sandkasten alles ist vorhanden. Die Vermieter sind sehr nett und zuvorkommend.
Also eine absolute Empfehlung von uns.
Kalterherberg ist ein ganz kleines Dorf. Es gibt aber fußläufig einen Bäcker und ein nah und gut Markt in dem man das Nötigste bekommt. Von Kalterherberg ist man ruckzuck im wunderschönen Monschau. Generell kann man recht viele Ausflugsziele innerhalb maximal einer Stunde erreichen.

A remarkable stay, can't wait to come back!
My family and I were truly impressed by the wonderful accommodations in this charming home, as well as the great experience we had in dealing with the hosts. First, I will say that we have stayed in many vacation homes but have never found a place with such attention to detail in the decoration, furnishings, cleanliness, and family activity offerings. The weather was snowy, so my children especially enjoyed the game room and assortment of toys and games offered for our use. My wife, parents, and I really appreciated the warm wood-pellet stove and the room configuration--which was perfect for a large family. Next, I will say that the courtesy and hospitality extended by the hosts were absolutely what I hoped for--all communications were prompt and helpful--and they took extra care to make sure we were comfortable without any imposition. Finally, the location of the home was very ideal for year-round enjoyment of nature and the nearby attractions. We were in town for the Monschau Christmas market, but I certainly hope to make a return trip when we can enjoy hiking in the nearby Eifel Park. I definitely recommend this property, especially for families with multiple children. Thank you!

We stayed in this holiday house with two families and a total of three kids. They were very exhited to see the rooms full of games and loved it. We were lucky to have snow so our kids created a huge snowman in the garden.The wifi connection was great too!
The house was perfect. Everything looked like it was brand new and it was very clean.
They only problem we had was with one of the showers but the owner will solve this. Monschau is a very pretty city and we enjoyed hiking and sleighing in Hellenthal ( weiser stein). We might come back.
