About this cabin rental
Monte Rio Treehouse has an abundance of character! From three stories in the majestic redwood trees to a gumball machine, to a hidden bedroom, the house sits at the crossroads of adventure and convenience. You can mosey at your own pace to several beaches along the Russian River, tennis courts, skate park, playground, bars, restaurants, and the beloved Rio Theater. Hop in the car and you're a short drive to the Sonoma Coast, zip line adventure near Occidental, wineries and oodles of activities.
Or hang out at this much-loved cabin - cooking up a fantastic meal with local produce, watch the game, BBQ or just sip a glass of wine (or beer) under the towering trees.
On the second story, the main entrance to the house leads into a cozy living room with a gas fireplace, large flat-screen TV (with movie library and Xbox), wrap-around sofa, master and second bedrooms, laundry room and full bathroom. Did you say hidden bedroom? Behind the living room bookshelf, you'll find the master bedroom with a queen bed and mini-bed (see note below), access to a balcony with propane BBQ, and a delightful spot to snuggle in for the night. Don't feel like going upstairs to the kitchen for a refill? No need, there's a mini fridge and beverage station at the bottom of the interior stairs between the 2nd and 3rd levels of the house.
The third level feels like you're perched in your childhood dream treehouse - you are way, way up in the redwood trees! This uppermost level of the home contains a delightfully remodeled kitchen with granite countertops, dining room, full bathroom and third bedroom. There's also a little deck and outdoor stairs to the second and ground levels of the home. The Monte Rio Treehouse beautifully blends modern un-cluttered décor and amenities with the rustic charm of a 1950's river cabin.
The fully fenced yard promises entertainment for both kids and adults. With a large table and seating, you can dine outside or watch the kids hunt for banana slugs, stellar jays or squirrels.
Boho Manor (and their Gatsby-inspired restaurant and jazz speakeasy, spa, high-tea, brunch, and yoga sessions) is across the street. Formerly the Village Inn, new owners have re-imagined the property and recommend reservations. Highland Dell (German) Restaurant is a couple doors down as well.

Clean and convenient and super comfy beds with all kinds of movies and board games

We had a wonderful time staying at this house. The pics were exactly as the house is (looks like they made some updates since the pics were taken) We enjoyed our stay. The house was clean, and well stocked. The hot tub was easy to use and ready to go when we arrived. Very easy communicating with property manager. Short walk to a couple of grocery markets and close to the Monte Rio Beach Park. Will stay again if in the area!

We stayed in late August to beat the Sacto heat.
Pros:
Super cool house with a secret room and hot tub.
Tons of movies to watch.
Amazing setting in the trees high up above street level.
close to town for supplies/river/movie ect...walkable, bike would be better though
Really close to a local hotel bar. (like 50 ft.)
A little further away is a weird German restaurant with weird patrons and excellent food.
Monte Rio has a cool Skatepark
Right near the entrance to Bohemian Grove (the secret culty meeting spot for the most powerful rich men in the world)
Everything worked great and was functional, all in all its a great spot.
Cons:
Skylights above beds have no option to cover them, so wake up early. One was kinda dirty/webby with what looked like tape hanging off of it from someone's attemp to cover it..
The house did not have enough toilet paper. unfortunate surprise.
Stairs lots of stairs....not bad for me but people should know who have mobility issues.
Hot tub wouldn't go above 98 degrees after a servicing. It was fine before.

I would recommend this place!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Monte Rio Treehouse. The location was great for us to visit the coast and check out tidal pools during the day. There were also restaurants that were close by. Thumbs up!

My group and I had a fun time at this house over Memorial Day weekend 2023. It is a vertical arrangement, so I would not recommend it if you have someone with mobility issues in your group. The kitchen is on the top floor. The hang-out spaces and the outdoor spaces are really fabulous. The location is insane!!! I love this part of the Russian River because you don't get lost :) This is a fun house and we had a great time.

The house was so cool! Loved the secret room behind the bookshelf! Things within walking distance. The weather was perfect. The restaurant on the corner Boho Manor such good food. And the view from the back....chef's kiss! We had dinner @ the Rio Cafe & Grill. Hands down the best food and homemade icecream EVER!! Would def drive there to eat A LOT...if it weren't for the 3hr drive. Loved that could walk to most places. Loved getting up and opwning all the windows in the morning. Perfect weekend birthday celebration! Definitely want to come back!

Take the time to stare up at the huge redwoods in the yard… can’t beat it! Fun design elements, loved the home.

We had a great time at the Monte Rio tree house! It was just as described, very clean and with everything we needed for our stay in this unique house. It was rainy, but we watched DVD's and played games, and walked to the river. We enjoyed the unique views from the top story, high up in the redwood trees. It was nice that they allowed pets - our dog loved it too.
Would not hesitate to come back and stay again sometime.

Perfect 2 night stay along side the river and very close to Pacific Coast highway. Cabin is perfect mix of rustic cabin with niceties… comfortable beds, well outfitted kitchen, gas fireplace in family room and a well kept hot tub. Adorable “hidden” bedroom. Walked to Boho Manor, boutique hotel next door, for drinks and dinner around a riverside outdoor fireplace.

The treehouse is beautifully located, comfortably equipped, nestled in majestic pines, with indoor and outdoor amenities, including two stories with a spacious yard with a fireplace and outdoor table seating. As an unexpected side benefit, it was wonderfully cool during our recent Labor Day heat wave. Highly recommended.

Perfect place for my 5 sons and me. BBQ and jacuzzi great amenities. We had our own kayaks and enjoyed Monte Rio beach access daily. As a mature (older) man the stairs were an issue but I got through it. No problem for my sons though. Thoroughly enjoyed our time in a Monte Rio. Thank you!

Lots of stairs for sure, but accommodations were clean and comfortable. Slept very well each night . Neighbors walking the neighborhood were super friendly! Close to river and ocean was only 15 min away. Would recommend.

The house has four beds (2 are bunk beds). The beds rate from perfect, comfortable, and two too firm. The house was very cold because of the trees and shade, which was beautiful! There are lots of space heaters and a beautiful fireplace to earn it up. The hot tub was great too! Not too hot. The hidden room was the favorite feature! So fun. (Curtains over the outside door would be nice though as there's no privacy otherwise.)
The handrails, doors, dishes, and a few towels were not clean. So I cleaned the rails and door knobs. The dishes we had to clean before using, and some of the towels had some sticky stuff on it. The blankets did not smell clean either.
The neighbors are very close so there's little privacy. But we didn't see hardly anyone while there.
There aren't Ubers or Lyft services. We used a local taxi and received excellent service.
Overall, it was very enjoyable and a great place to spend the weekend close to hiking and fun, small towns.

Overall a good.experience. We had to turn on the circuit breaker twice. Some lights in the living room and back bedroomdid not work. Kitchen sink drain had to be unclogged. Barbecue grill middle gas or flame tube had to be brushed clean for it to work. Propane cylinder that was connected was empty.

This is a lovely home, highly recommended. Beds are very comfortable and the cleaning standards are impeccable. Living among the treetops along the river was an idyllic respite from the stresses of this difficult year. Wifi worked great for our FaceTime calls to family over the Thanksgiving holidays. We brought all of our own food to avoid needing to visit a store, but there is a small grocery market less than 10 minutes walk from the house. Management was very responsive to our requests and we were pleased with our stay.

Really nice house with everything you need. It had a good washer and dryer and beach towels which was super convenient. There were also 4 Coleman chairs that we used at the river. The house sits a short 30 second walk from The Village inn. We had a great dinner with a view of the Russian river. Easy to get to many activities like kayaking, hiking, redwoods, coastal areas and wine tasting. Nice jacuzzi and yard. Beautiful redwoods in the yard to enjoy. We enjoyed the house and would definitely stay again.

This is a great location right in a redwood grove and you're up in the trees. The thing is with a tree house is that it is vertical so there are a lot of up and down stairs. Not for young children or people who cannot do lots of stairs - especially when loading and unloading. You will get your workout in! Very peaceful and walkable area. Restaurants and grocery store close by (we were doing all our own cooking, so the grocery store is a real find. Very friendly and well-stocked.) Close to the river with kyacks, etc., but could not venture there because of the crowds. The kitchen is not as well-equipped as some places we rented, so that is something to keep in mind if you are cooking everything yourself. You might want to bring a pan or two, and placemats, napkins, etc. Plenty of dishes and glass wear though. They have a DVD player and if you have a Netflix account, you can access it. Very nice weekend.

We loved the Treehouse & the area has fun activities for the whole family between the nearby Redwood park & river. The property is well maintained, had lots of supplies in the kitchen & laundry room, and any last minute items we needed were available at Bartlett's store about a 5 minute walk away. We would welcome returning to the Treehouse!

I miss the “Treehouse”
It was the perfect house for us. My daughter got married at the Highland Dell, another wonderful spot, just down the road. The kitchen was a great place for both families to get to know each other while I made the salted caramel filling for the wedding cake. Kitchen is well equipped, just needed a measuring cup which I found at Safeway & was happy to leave. The grooms family and wedding party stayed at the Highland Dell so they were able to walk to and from our house which was very convenient. After booking the house I worried about the description of only partially fenced yard because we had two dogs with us part of our stay, but since the photos were taken the very large yard has been fully fenced. It was really nice to sit out there in the morning with coffee or afternoon with a glass of wine and let the dogs safely explore. All the stairs were not a problem except for some reason the light grey color on the inside steps make it difficult to see them going down until you get used to it. Would love to have this house, I think I’d make the kitchen door a Dutch door.

Lovely Getaway
Excellent weekend getaway for four adults, two small children, and a dog. The outdoor space is fenced in and perfect for the non-adults. The house is close to the river and the center of Monte Rio, walkable to many things. We enjoyed the kitchen and bbq.
Only real nit was that the door key didn't work on one of the main entry doors (though it worked just fine on the three others...)

Such a cute place! Clean and perfect for a getaway! It really feels like your in a treehouse! And the hot tub was so relaxing

Great location, just as advertised
We loved the area and the house was just what we were looking for. We had a nice stay with a small group and enjoyed the surrounding nature. The place seemed reasonably priced and the rental company was very easy to work with. Would recommend this for an easy quick get-away from the City/Bay Area

Close to the beach nice home also

Good location, comfy beds, too many stairs and strange layout
Overall, I found the house to be well equiped and in a great location, the beds were comfortable, however the layout was super choppy with the kitchen upstairs and the little living room downstairs, there wasn't really a great place for us all to hang out comfortably. The hot tub was fabulous though. A lot of stairs, too many stairs but they do warn you in the description of the place.

Amazing Views, Great Location, What More Can You Ask For?
This rental house was everything we were looking for and more! We recently stayed at the Monte Rio Treehouse for a long weekend and enjoyed every moment of it. We were looking for a getaway but still wanted some conveniences like restaurants and activities. We found exactly that and more.
Location:
- tucked away enough that it’s private and you feel like you’ve “gotten away” but walking distance to the river, local market, restaurants and bars
- 15 minutes from the coast so plenty of beach and hiking opportunities
- we didn’t go wine or beer tasting (this time) but they are close by so easily accessible
- neighbors and other renters walk their dog, run, walk on the street so there’s decent foot traffic and safe
Kitchen:
- updated gas stove and oven that heated up quickly
- furnished with pots, pans, utensils, and even some common pantry items!!
- plenty of counter space to prepare meals
- standard refrigerator to hold perishables
- big enough that 2 - 3 people could be in the kitchen preparing food
Bedrooms and Bathrooms:
- all 3 rooms included a queen size bed (one room also had a wide bench that could easily sleep a child, another had a twin top bunk along with the queen), comfortable linens, and heaters for chilly nights
- hand towels, bath towels, toilet paper and hand soap were provided in both bathrooms
- shower water heated up fast and getting hot water wasn’t an issue, even for 6 adults
Common Living Space:
- dining room comfortably sat 6 people to eat, play games, etc.
- living room easily sat 6 people to play games, watch tv, etc.
- big screen tv with cable was a really nice added bonus!
Outdoor Living:
- waking up to the view of old redwoods was amazing and there is plenty of deck space to enjoy the view from every angle
- patio table and chairs sat 6 people near the fire pit
- medium size grill was clean and worked well to prepare dinner one of the nights
- hot tub was perfect for a chilly night
Lastly, I cannot say enough about how welcomed we felt at the house. The Welcome Book told us everything we needed to know about the house and the owners thought of everything to make sure guests’ felt safe and knew where to could find things they might need. This was a really great experience and we can’t wait to come back for another visit!!
