About this house rental
This charming Taos adobe overlooks the Ranchos Valley from a private site 1.5 miles from the intersection of Taos's main street - Highway 68/Paseo del Pueblo Sur - and Highway 518, the High Road to Santa Fe. The home's 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths can easily accommodate six and will transport you to another place in time.
Nestled into the hillside, this historic home provides classic New Mexico elements - vigas, saltillo tile, wood floors, 3 kiva fireplaces (decorative only), and several native stone terraced berms, patios and overlooks. It has been extensively renovated with in-floor radiant heat, new windows, kitchen and baths. It combines the ambiance of authentic adobe architecture and culture with modern comfort and convenience. Occupied for decades by acclaimed Taos artists Barbara Latham and Howard Cook, this home evokes feelings of relaxation, peace and creativity.
Sleeping in an true adobe home with feet thick walls, viewing moon and stars free of city lights, sipping morning coffee while watching horses graze and listening to the tumble of water in the Rio Chiquito will soothe the psyche.
The Master Bedroom has a California King bed and en suite bath. The 2nd bedroom has a queen sized bed and en suite bath. The 3rd bedroom has a full sized bed and adjacent private bath. There is Internet, wifi and two smart TV's for streaming.
What sets this house apart is its special perch on a ridge that overlooks the agricultural Ranchos de Taos Valley. The valley connects two of Taos's original settlements - Talpa on the north and Llano Quemado on the south. This area was home to many of Taos' reknowned modern artists during the 1940's, 50's and 60's. The working landscape provides a restful contrast to urban life and timeless subject matter for Taos artists: diagonally plowed fields, pastured horses, fall hay bales and rustling cottonwoods. The Picuris Mountains draw the gaze up from the green valley floor to the blues and purples of mountain and sky.
The setting is both quiet and private, removed from the road, but with easy access into Taos and the Ski Valley to the north, or to the Sipapu Ski Area due south, along with Penasco, Trampas, Truchas, Chimayo, and other High Road destinations. A short 5 minute drive south delivers you to several good hiking and cultural destinations - including well marked and sparsely traveled Forest Service roads and the Pot Creek cultural site with ancient Anasazi settlement remains and interpretive paths.
The dirt road traversing the valley below, Camino de Abejo de la Loma to Valerio, provides a lovely walk to the historic Ranchos de Taos plaza, where one can explore the iconic San Franciso de Asis Mission Church, galleries and restaurants including Old Martina’s (modern Euro-American cuisine), the Ranchos Grill (traditional New Mexican breakfast and lunch plates), the Garden Coffee Shop and the acclaimed Trading Post.
This home's interior and exterior beauty set an inviting stage for retreat, inspiration, romance or adventure.

Best ever stay of anywhere! We stayed on the 1st floor and let the kids have the master and other bedrooms because of the stairs involved. They thought they’d died and gone to heaven!

If you wish to step away from hotels and have a more authentic Taos experience, this is the place to go. The view is fabulous. The house itself has all the warmth and charm of the old adobes. Although, you would never suspect its age, everything is very updated. The owner does an excellent job explaining how everything in the place works. That is always helpful. And I hope any future resident is able to find the time to explore the coffee table books. They further the Taos experience.

A beautiful home and wonderful visit for our family. The house is very visitor friendly. We appreciated the house being so well stocked, instructions for appliances and such being so clear, and the insightful info provided on both the area and the history of the house itself. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

I cant say enough about this property! It was perfect for our home away from home stay. The square footage is perfect with plenty of private bedroom/bathroom space and the living area is perfect for gathering and enjoying the spectacular view. The space is clean, the climate was very comfortable, and I cannot wait to get back to thay exact same spot! We highly recommend!

The house was perfect. It was exactly what we needed for the week we spent in Taos. We were visiting for business and pleasure. The house was a pleasure to come back to at the end of the day. Meredith does an excellent job providing what you may need. A very well stocked kitchen.

We had a very quiet and restful stay here after holiday mayhem while my daughter studied at her University‘s remote campus just down the road. The view is wonderful and the house has everything you need for a very comfortable stay.

A week in this lovely, authentic adobe home was a true Taos gift. The views, grounds, amenities and location close to town but very private all made our stay a 5 star experience. There was plenty of space for more people but we enjoyed the freedom of last minute plans depending on our whims. Meredith’s hike suggestions were perfect and we were lucky to see gorgeous fall colors. We hope to return to this special home soon.

This wonderful adobe home was the perfect setting for our long weekend in Taos to attend the wedding of old friends from boarding school. Indoors and out, the house is tastefully and comfortably furnished, and has everything you might need; we especially appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, the pantry of staples such as olive oil and spices, the high-quality bed linens and towels, and the bathroom amenities. It's also a delightful house for entertaining—we hosted a casual dinner party for the bride and groom the day after the wedding and everyone marveled at how lovely the place is. From mornings on the porch with coffee, to evenings watching the spectacular sunsets from the patio, it was a magical, relaxing spot for our time in Taos. Meredith, our host, was exceptionally responsive and thoughtful. We have stayed in a number of VRBO/Airbnb properties, and this was by far the most memorable!

My friends and I had a very enjoyable stay in the Taos Adobe. The home was very clean, we had everything we needed and the view over the valley was lovely. All three of us had a very comfortable bedroom with a bathroom. Nice touches throughout the home. I would definitely return if I would be in the area again. Thank you, Meredith!

Our family of four stayed at Meredith’s house for one week recently. It was the perfect setting for an enjoyable visit to Taos. We were fascinated with the adobe home, the first we’d ever stayed in. Although it was June and warm outside it stayed comfortably cool in the house. The house is very peaceful and surrounded by nice views. Sunset views every evening. Each bedroom is a retreat of its own allowing plenty of space to relax and recover from the amazing local activities.

Unique house and property. We really enjoyed the property as t had an outdoor fire pit (gas), plenty of sitting areas with views. Plus the main room had a nice view with comfortable sitting. All in all we would stay here again should we return to the Taos area.

Meredith's house is absolutely lovely. The home is filled with lovely furnishings and art, quality amenities, and beautiful views. This was more than just a place to sleep. This home became part of our adventure. We enjoyed starting every morning drinking coffee and enjoying the view. We cooked in the well-equipped kitchen most nights, and we ended the days drinking wine in the cozy living room. This is by far the best VRBO I've stayed in.

The owner of this beautiful property has a love for Taos, art, the culture and keeping true to the adobe architecture of the home. Staying there was a treat and would stay again and again. I lived in Taos in the past and you know when someone loves the all that is Taos. She was ever so helpful and quick to return texts. It was simply a warm, beautiful and fun Christmas.

I spent 4 wonderful days with 2 of my best friends. We arrived the day before Thanksgiving and spent the following weekend. The home was equipped with everything needed to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. With the Wi-Fi and cable in the home, we watched the parade and football all day relaxing in the comfortable living area. All 3 BR and Baths were so comfortable. We enjoyed our days and nights so much in this home, we certainly will return soon. I would definitely recommend this great place!

To stay in this lovely home in which calm, order and beauty are abundant was such a privilege. Meredith has outdone herself in providing everything a traveler could possibly need or want, along with helpful notes posted about the entire home. The decor is consistent with the style and character of the adobe home. So many lovely items are on display, along with fascinating books. The beds were fabulous, and the linens were lovely. The kitchen is fabulous. The VIEW is amazing, and can be enjoyed at anytime. My favorite was early morning, with a cup of coffee on the porch, when the scent of lavender was hanging in the air. We will be back, and will stay longer! Meredith is an excellent communicator and a lovely host.

The property was very comfortable and clean. It was well stocked with towels, bathroom items, e.g., shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, soap, laundry and dishwasher supplies. Wonderful nostalgic feel with the windows open and breeze coming through at night. New patio was great in the evening (sounds of cattle and coyotes from the valley below) and great in the morning with a hot cup of coffee. Notes posted around the home are very helpful. Overall a great experience.

Extraordinary Property!
Lovely views, comfortable beds, attentive host, upscale decor. The energy here represents everything I expect from a home in the Talpas art community. Our 5 year old grandson loved hiking the gardens throwing rocks w/o getting in trouble. 😁

Love this place!
This was the perfect house for our girls’ trip. There were 3 of us so we each had our own bedroom and bathroom. The adobe is very cute and cozy! The location is great for spending time in both Santa Fe and Taos, although it is about an hour’s drive from Santa Fe. The beds were comfortable, it was clean, and we had everything we needed in the kitchen. We also enjoyed spending time outside with the many outdoor seating options. There is beautiful scenery all around. One thing to take note of is that there is no AC. It was around 80 during the day but cooled off nicely at night so that leaving the windows open and running the fans (there is one in each room) provided plenty of cool air. It’s also tricky finding the driveway so pay close attention to the directions Meredith provides. Meredith was very helpful and responsive before and during our stay! Highly recommend this place!

Peaceful and lovely home
We (myself, my husband, and my sister) loved this historic Taos home. It was very comfortable and homey. Enjoyed relaxing in the home and the lovely yard and patios. Great views!
The owner, Meredith, was very welcoming and accommodating.

This is a perfect place
My husband and I travel to Taos every year and this is by far the most beautiful house that we have rented. All of the furnishings, the heated floors, beautiful ceilings, the view, the linens…everything was just beautiful. Getting to the shopping and restaurants of Taos took only minutes. Just a great location. It’s also extremely quiet. Although it was just the two of us, this house could comfortably fit a lot of people. The bedrooms are far from each other and privacy abounds! Love love love it here. Meredith was so sweet and courteous in our communications. Can’t wait to come back!

A warm and beautiful home!
We stayed at Meredith's house for a week. My family (myself and partner, brother and our parents) loved the cozy atmosphere and beautiful furnishings of the house. We all had ample space to gather and privacy when sleeping. It has a lovely view from the back and is close to Taos. I'm sure it's gorgeous in the spring! We were there in February. The snow was no problem and it looked beautiful. The neighbourhood is ok for walking but there were a number of stray dogs which I found a little unpleasant. That seems to be common in NM as we encountered them in the other areas we visited. Although that is nothing to do with the home. Our stay was very enjoyable and Meredith is both kind and very accessible. I recommend this home for families or couples gathering.

We enjoyed this property for a ski trip after Christmas. The house is immaculate, well appointed and beautifully decorated. We were close to downtown Taos and it was an easy and beautiful drive to Ski Taos. The views are spectacular- especially the sunsets! I highly recommend!

Historic Adobe
We had a wonderful stay at the Historic Adobe house. The house and grounds were delightful and just as represented. We enjoyed the lighted patio at breakfast and sunset with wine. The various terraced areas outside were fantastic. Meredith provided information about the artists who lived there and we visited the gallery to see their work. This house is wonderful and has all the amenities one needs. It is close to Taos and all the sites to see in the area. The owner was available and checked on us during our visit. No problems at all with this rental. We hope to stay in this home again.

THE place to stay in Taos
Our stay at Meredith’s house could not possibly have been better. We stayed for a month and everything about the experience was wonderful, easy, straightforward, beautiful. Communication with meredith was a super clear and super fast; she is a warm and generous host, friendly but at the same time she takes her job as host seriously. We wanted for nothing. It was simply the best home rental experience we’ve ever had.
The home itself is located above a lush valley. At night, you’ll see stars overhead and hear the gentle sounds of life below. Sunsets on the patio were amazing. Just a few minutes from the center of town, you’re close enough to make split-second decisions to go here or there for dinner but far enough to never see a tourist.
The home itself is clean and well cared for, spacious, private, and quit. Did I mention clean? It's super clean. And well appointed with everything we needed, from good WiFi to household supplies to, yes, even nice shower products.
We would stay again in a heartbeat.
