About this house rental
The North Gate House is a beautiful, vacation home completed in 2008. The house has approximately 2,160 square feet of space on three levels.
There are many special touches throughout the house from the soaring 21 foot high ceiling of the great room to the solid oak, wide plank flooring, to the custom glass paneled deck. From the wall of windows in the comfort of the great room or outside from the deck, you will have unobstructed views into Yellowstone where herds of elk and bison can often be seen grazing. Big horn sheep are often viewed walking the ridge behind the house.
The house includes a fully equipped kitchen with a large capacity dishwasher, above the range microwave and beautiful hickory cabinets. There is central heat and air with individual controls for each floor (a must for high desert summers where temperatures can reach the 90's at times), HD satellite televisions, high speed internet access, high efficiency washer and dryer, a Renai hot water system (you'll never run out of hot water)and a bathroom on each level.
The lower level bedroom consists of two twin/single beds, an HD television, blu-ray player. The main floor bedroom has a queen bed, HD television and blu-ray player, while the upper level bedroom consists of a king size bed with a High Definition TV system and blu-ray player.
Situated in the quaint town of Gardiner, you will be able to find anything you need. There are many cafes, restaurants and numerous shops, a grocery store, post office and bank. There are fishing guides, rafting companies and outfitters that offer horseback riding both in and outside of the park.
The fishing in the area is wonderful. There are two Blue Ribbon streams within a mile of the house, the Yellowstone which is 3 blocks away and the Gardiner River approximately 1 mile.
In the winter there are many available activities such as ice skating at Mammoth Hot Springs (6 miles from the house), snowshoeing in Yellowstone and the surrounding area or cross country skiing. There is snowmobiling with rentals available in and out of the park, down hill skiing at Bridger Bowl (94 miles away) or Big Sky (175 miles) and our favorite - wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley where you will likely see herds of bison, elk and possibly some of the Yellowstone wolves.
The National Geographic Society used the Northgate House in 2014 while working on a 2015 Yellowstone film documentary. They lived at the Northgate house while making the film and used the garage for their film editing. They also set up a blind in the yard to film some of the local wildlife. Those that have rented the Northgate House will recognize some of the scenes in the National Geographic film.
After a long hard day of activities you can relax in the hot springs of Boiling River on the Gardiner River (3 miles away) then come home to the luxury of our house overlooking Gardiner, The Northgate House.

The house was very nice. Perfect amount of space and rooms for a family of 5 maybe even 1 or 2 more. Perfect great room for all to hangout in. The location can’t be beat! About 1 mile to the entrance to Yellowstone!

Excellent view of the park. We saw much wildlife in and around the house and town (as well as in the Park!) The hosts are responsive and helpful, and the house was perfect for us - clean, well situated in town and so close to the Yellowstone. Highly recommend!!

The property was wonderful. Very clean, spacious, great views and many amenities - from ice packs, coolers and family games to washer and dryer. Location was fantastic - you can see the Yellowstone Northgate entrance, and it is walking distance to restaurants, the grocery store and activities, like the Flying Pig Adventures rafting.

WOW!!! What an absolutely amazing place to stay for our Yellowstone vacation. Our family had such an excellent time that we can't wait to go back!!! The house was so much more than we expected. We had elk walking around the house with their babies every day :) This was the PERFECT place for our family to explore Yellowstone. The owners were fantastic in communicating with us. If you want to get away from the crowds and have easy access to Yellowstone from the North Entrance, this is the place for you!!! Thank you, and we hope to see you soon!

The communication with the owner was amazing. Any questions or concerns were answered within one hour or less. The house was very clean and enough space to spread out after long hours in a car together. Will definitely stay with the owner again. Thank you for a great vacation and memorable stay. (The elk were a great bonus for us in the morning and upon arrival/departure)

We really enjoyed looking out the windows at the mountains! There is a lot of wildlife to watch. We even had an Elk give birth in the yard! Lots of room in the house and we were able to relax after long days in the car. Thank you!

We loved staying here while exploring Yellowstone. It was the perfect place for my husband and I and our two young adult children. The house had everything we needed, and was walking distance to stores and restaurants. We loved seeing the elk that hung around the yard every day. I’d definitely stay here again!

This property was perfect.
You can see the Roosevelt arch and North entrance to yellowstone.
Wildlife visits the house daily.
Plenty of room, and very well stocked.
Kitchen has ever you might need.
You may want to have a look before grocery shopping. Most staples are already there, guessing shared by other guests.
Great views and very quiet.
Highly recommend!!

Absolutely recommend this great little house for your Yellowstone adventure! Close enough to the park that you can come and go as you wish! And sometimes the “park” comes to you - we had rabbits, mule deer, big horn sheep & even an elk visit us while we were there! The view is amazing! House is clean, WELL stocked! This is one of the best stock d VRBOs we’ve stayed in! We had to 7 people - 4 adults, 2 teens & a tween… comfortably fit all of us!
There’s no place like home - but we’re already missing waking up to that view!
Rick is easy & responsive with communication!

This is one of our favorite properties and a great location for a winter visit to the northern part of Yellowstone. Northgate House is very well maintained and comfortable and within a mile of the northern entrance to Yellowstone National Park. This gives you access to skiing and snowshoeing and animal watching in the Lamar Valley. At night you come home to a fully equipped cabin with internet, a full kitchen, laundry and 3 bedrooms. Just a great play to use as your base for exploring the park.

My family stayed at this house for a week and had a wonderful time. Everything about the home was great - the mountain views from the living room, the distance to the park, etc. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner here and were amazed that the kitchen had everything we needed. Overall I highly recommend this home and can’t wait to come back in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Northgate House. It was a great location overlooking the town which had everything we needed for the week. Enjoyed how close it was to the park entrance as well as the amenities of the house. Very clean and stocked throughout. Rick was easy to communicate with and accommodating to our needs. We would definitely stay here again.

Loved staying at the North Gate house! The attention to details was best we have ever experienced! We forgot our binoculars, they had some there! 🙌 Loved sitting on the deck for coffee at sunrise and wine in the evenings at sunset! Along with treat of elk and mule deer (twins and their momma) walking by!! The view is stunning and location is perfect! Definitely one of our favorites!

Been to YNP 6x, last 2 have stayed at Northgate. Will never stay elsewhere. The house is truly beautiful, very spacious. Furniture, bedding, towels, amenities are all top quality. Kitchen very well stocked. Lots of extras. The decor is fabulous. Always finding something I missed seeing
Outside deck views are incredible. Daily visits from neighborhood elk & deer. Right at north entrance to park. Town of Gardiner is quaint and has some great food & awesome seats & Moose Drool at Iron Horse Bar & Grill. Rick & Cheryl are on top of everything. They truly want to make sure everything is just right
Can’t imagine staying anywhere else. You will not be disappointed in this home. Enjoy

Loved everything about the property. Was very clean and had extras (coolers, backpacks, bear spray) that were a nice touch for the area. Loved the close location to the park. Would recommend this location to anyone who is wanting to visit Yellowstone. This is the best time of year as there are less people and the weather was awesome.

We had such a wonderful time in Yellowstone and the North Gate house was the perfect place to come back to. The small town is great! We spent one day at Yellowstone Hot Springs and had an amazing time. Get a reservation at Chicos (30-40 min drive). You won’t regret it!! Bear spray, backpacks, coolers, anything you may have forgotten is there for you.

This was my second stay at this house; the others were there for first time. I was just as pleased the second time as the first (2018). It is very convenient to town and park entrance. There were adult and baby elk all around the place. Roomy, comfortable, well stocked with everything you could want or imagine. Hopefully if I return, it will be available again.

Simply one of the best places we have stayed! The listing is accurate, but still doesn’t do justice. The house is spacious and perfect for 6 adults. The kitchen and equipment is as good as you would have in your own home - perhaps better! It was very clean, cool, and “set up” with snacks and everything we needed to get our stay going.
It’s location is convenient, yet “away” from town to feel relaxing. The views are incredible!
We spent the week in the Yellowstone NP, and this was actually a very convenient place -close enough to all but the very southern edge of the park. Getting there from Bozeman was straightforward. We also did some activities in Emigrant and Chico.
Highly recommend this house for anyone wanting a good base to explore the park and the surrounding area. The owners are very accommodating and easy to communicate and deal with, the housekeepers/local caretakers do a superb job.
Thank you Rick and Cheryl. Hope to be here again!!

Only about 10 minutes from the front door to Mammoth Hot Springs, this space was great! Clean with plenty of room to relax, we were able to watch elk and a fox from the front porch. The available large capacity washer and dryer were a great option after a week of hiking in the park. One of the best VRBOs I’ve ever used!

Beautiful home with everything you need. Many more items than other VRBO’s we have rented including coolers and bear spray!l
Wildlife all around including an elk looking in at us through the deck glass.
North entrance is the best for viewing wildlife!

We travel to Yellowstone every year to watch wolves in the Northern Range and have grown tired of being squashed into two room cabins with no amenities. This property was just outside the North Entrance (you can see the arch from the house) and made for an easy trip into the park twice a day to watch wolves. We each had our own bedroom and bathroom ( on different floors) with tons of privacy. We watched herds of elk, bison, and yellow, and mule deer from the deck and were greeted by elk, bighorn sheep and mule deer each night as we arrived home. Will definitely stay again!!!

We use VRBO quite frequently, and this was easily one of, if not the best experiences we've had. The views from the home are even better than the description. The convenience of the location to the North Gate and Gardiner amenities can't be overstated. It was also extremely well stocked with a number of necessities other vacation rentals simply don't provide. There were coolers in the garage, a backpack for hiking, several snacks for both adults and the kids, plenty of clean towels and extra blankets. You name it, the house had it. We were also lucky enough to have several local visitors around the house each day. Mule deer, bighorn sheep, and elk could all be seen just outside the living room windows. We highly recommend this home if you are looking for a family friendly stay near the Yellowstone North Gate.

Great stay. Large, comfortable cabin in a great location. Owner was very hospitable and helpful. Looking forward to returning.

This was our 3rd winter visit to the Northgate House in Gardiner, MT. It remains our favorite VRBO rental. After an unfortunate but inescapable travel delay, we were greeted by 5-6 elk munching on the hillside behind the house. The house itself is very close to the north entrance to YNP. The new road from Gardiner to Mammoth Hot Springs that was completed after June's floods knocked out the old road is remarkable. The park service works hard to keep it open and safe. The Northgate House itself is wonderful with great living, kitchen and sleeping facilities and excellent WiFi and satellite TV for the long winter nights. The owner is available and helpful and clearly takes pride in the property.

We came here to view wildlife (mostly wolves) at Yellowstone and, thanks to Yellowstone Wolf Tracker, we saw 4 packs including the 8-Mile Pack that we watched from the house deck. Our guide was thoughtful enough to alert us and drop off a scope. Fantastic trip! The house is fully equipped, clean— lovely home!
