Summary of reviews
The property is loved for its unique charm, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, fascinating history, and convenient location near the beach. Guests enjoy the fun piano, beautiful yard, and ample space for families.

Honestly I was quite disappointed with the lack of overall upkeep on the home. Being a 100+ year old home isn’t much of an excuse to be poorly maintained. The roughest part of the stay was the overwhelming musty smell throughout the home as though it hadn’t been aired out all year. After the price of one night plus adding in the almost $450 in fees we were expecting a little more comfort and upkeep.
2.0
The floors were dirty and furniture throughout were dirty, carpet upstairs had stains outside the bedroom, deck had weeds and lots of dead leaves, a dirty refrigerator, a large frying pan with eggs cooked on left in the cupboard, garbage left in house with food waste including watermelon and spiders around outside.

The listing tripled the nightly rate for the holiday weekend which is standard, but they misrepresented the number of bedrooms as 5 when it is only four. It also noted a sofa bed which it does not provide. Drilling into the reviews a guest noticed this misrepresentation earlier and was told it would be rectified. It wasn't. We did not have the privacy for our group that we had contracted for - we were only (7) to our party but we needed that fifth bedroom and the sofa bed for privacy, and that is what we were expecting.

The house is dated but very nice. It has a few issues due to its age. There is quite a draft from the windows upstairs. The sofa in the living room did not make into a bed as indicated in the listing, so one of our family members had to sleep on the couch. Also, there are no extra blankets for the sofa bed, or for any of the bedrooms. Thankfully we brought blankets and pillows with us. There was a shortage of spoons and no baking dishes in the kitchen which was a little inconvenient. The front door did not stay closed, due to wind, unless it was locked. None the less, we enjoyed our stay,

Wish i would have paid attention to the negative reviews. doors don't shut or lock properly. water is not the hot. wasn't that clean. fireplace did not work and there is no washer or dyer as listed in the listing.

This is a good, central place to stay for a family with a dog. It is priced fair. It's quirky and not that cozy but the beds and showers are fine.

What a fascinating house in perfect location for easy access to everything in Gearhart. One of our guests lived in the house for a short time many years ago and knew all its history. Fun piano downstairs. Kitchen needs a few more standard supplies but we did fine. Thanks!

Great fun house but the kitchen wasn’t well stocked. They didn’t even have a salad bowel.

Not a comfortable stay
We chose this home for the location and availability on the busy July 4th weekend. We secured the home a year in advance.
This home is in need of maintenance and all beds, sheets, and towels should be upgraded to justify the price. It is not charming, just shabby.
None of the beds were comfortable, in fact one bed frame was broken, thus dubbed the "taco bed". The upstairs bathroom had issues with lighting and the toilet refilled constantly. The kitchen was dark and not well laid out for actual cooking. Fine for making coffee, and that's all we did.
The day before our scheduled departure the water was shut off by the city because of a water line break on the property. Oregon Beach Vacations was responsive, and we are waiting for our final night to be refunded.
The home was very clean upon our arrival, and the outdoor spaces are lovely!

We love the uniqueness and location of the property. It's great for our family of 5 with 2 dogs. The kids always choose this place when we stay at the beach.

Reviewer Comments:
My standard is a hotel room. Front door was either locked or open. It did not shut. Bathroom doors are unacceptable. Bathroom windows without curtain or shades. Needs a paint job and a kitchen re-do. Enough room for 6. Off-street parking would have been nice. Four times cars came down the street and almost slid into our vehicle because of the ice and snow.

Thanksgiving 2012
The property is quirky. The front door only has a deadbolt to keep the door closed. The kitchen stove had one burner not working. The upstairs shower is very small.
Most troubling is the master shower. The water temperature at Full Hot was 75 degrees. That makes for a brisk shower. It didn’t get repaired during my stay.

Four nights of October beach weather nested beautifully in this historical and thoughtfully constructed home. An unusual and surprising find for oregon. One can feel the love and work that was put into its design and flow and texture. Dated, yes, needs some repairs yes(doors need some attention) and some missing items(not enough forks) but the home functions fine once you get to know it’s secrets. I felt the home truly welcomed and held us warmly, the sculptured garden and grounds gave delight out every window. There was a majestic Elk who seemed drawn to the quiet garden as well, he acted like a regular visitor. I would stay here again, and again .

A neat old property with quirks-a-plenty. Is everything spotless and in perfect working order? No, but staying here is quite the experience and you won't regret it.

The arrival was fine. We did find a pot of uncooked chicken & other food stuff in the small fridge. Only 2 burners worked on the stove. The garbage cans did not have bungee cords & was full on arrival. Fortunately we didn’t generate much! Otherwise it was a nice stay with some old friends.

The Villa was very charming. The grounds were beautiful. We felt like we stepped back in time to another era. Our only complaint was that the stove and oven was not in good working order and there was standing water in the downstairs sink that was musty.

Charming, unique house with beautiful grounds & amazing deck. Lots of space for our group of 7. Quick walk to the beach, casual dining or drive to Seaside. This is an older home, so bedrooms & kitchen are small but rest of home is spacious. My only concern was front doors are quite flimsy so if security is a big issue for you that's a problem. Area seems safe enough, but I suggest checking with mgmt company to see if this has been remedied before renting.

Spring break / birthday celebration
It was a really nice location with a few minor Quirks that needed /need attention. There were a few lights out in the down stairs basement that maintenance person could not fix because they needed an electrician. The hot water only stayed hot for five minutes while taking a shower even after the maintenance guy turned up the heat there were doors that would not able to open or latch properly, no doorknob on the front door only way to keep it closed was to lock deadbolt many lights switches that seemed to have no function, the instructions for the gas fireplace are incorrect to light it all you have to do is turn on the gas and light it with a match or lighter there’s no pilot light. The fan in the upstairs does not work . No privacy in front bathroom with no curtains over the big windows. But all in all really loved the house decor and had a really great time in the area.

Ugh!
This place was appointed to us because the house that we rented was not cleaned by 4:00 and there was no one to clean it and nowhere else for my family to stay. IT WAS NOT COMPARABLE TO THE PLACE THAT WE RENTED AND COULD NOT MOVE INTO. It was old and dated with mold on the kitchen grout. Dusty plastic plants from the 1990's needed to be removed and the furniture (couch and side chairs) were dirty... looked like they had never been cleaned.
The staff talked about it being a "Hollywood home. "Who cares, if the home is old, dirty and smelly.

I read reviews and felt prepared for our experience. It’s a house with character with plenty of space for a large family or a couple of small families.
It was quirky, with a hodge-lodge of furniture. It reminded me of my grandparents’ house, which had been built on over the years during different eras.
The house is close enough to the beach. It’s less than a block to the ice cream shop. We were celebrating an 11-year old’s bday, and it was perfect for sending noisy kids to the basement area or outside in the large yard to play laser tag or toss a football.
Our minor complaints were things like confusing TV cords and missing remote batteries. Bulbs were burnt out. The fireplace directions made no sense. A sponge and more paper towels would have been helpful. A previous guest dropped little rifle bullets and they were scattered under the dryer.
The place wasn’t luxurious, but it was fun and we will stay there again. After all of the extra fees and taxes, it wasn’t a bargain, but I feel it was worth it.

The beds were all comfortable albeit the bedrooms are oddly arranged...

In this Covid period, the house was immaculately clean! Everything worked well, showers, kitchen appliances, heat. The house was so charming we felt like we were in a mid-century house with the chandelier and lighting fixtures. My husband and our 3 kids in their 20's enjoyed having their own bedroom. Lots of space. The piano downstairs was wonderful as my son enjoyed playing on it. We walked to town and to the beach and it was all so convenient! We saw ELK!!!!!! They chirp like seagulls at 2 in the morning. Facinating to see them lay down for the night. I would highly recommend this place. The gardens are beautiful!!!!

Relaxing get-away.
It was a relaxing place to stay. The beach was fantastic. We enjoyed the house. It was fun to explore the property. We really liked the veranda. There was plenty of room for all of us. We liked being in Gearhart-it was very quiet with very little traffic and we were just a short drive away from Seaside if we needed anything that we couldn't find in Gearhart. Our son and his wife brought their dog and it was a good place for him, too. Overall, we thought it was exactly right for us.

We loved the location and the house is nice. It is a little dated in areas (kitchen) and difficult to sit all together - we had to move furniture. Grounds are beautiful and loved the outside deck. However, we couldn't get into the house when we were supposed to because they were still cleaning. The coffee maker was dirty and other items in the kitchen were also dirty (dishes put away dirty). Our major concern was the power. The first night we were there the power turned off about 10 - 15 times. The second night was fine, but the heat got stuck on finally turned off. The third afternoon the power went off for several hours. When it finally came back on, we could not get the heat to shut off. When the repair technician came out he showed us how to flip breakers. Thank GOD because that night about midnight the power went off again, tripped the heat on. The upstairs was over 80 degrees! My husband was able to go into the breaker and turn it off. Unfortunately I have called and sent two emails - no response. We are requesting a partial refund. If the power issues can be fixed this will be a great place to stay.

The house was very unique and fun to look at. The garden and porch were amazing. The inside though was not furnished in a way that would allow all of to be together. The beds were all very small or uncomfortable and not useable. The kitchen was completely outdated with an old coffee pot that had been left on too long so it was burnt on the bottom. There was only one real shower/bathroom on main level. No where to put a towel or any toiletries in the shower. I was disappointed with this place for the amount of money we paid. I would have expected something with more modern amenities and usability.

Things needing attention
Property manager excellent. Immediately corrected entry code on arrival. Dispatched worker immediately to fix non- functioning cable tv box (only 2 of 4 actually worked). Parking instructions need revising. There is no N/S street parking as shown on the in- house placard. Asked a few locals who said it was OK to park E/W on street (Pacific Ave. S) in front of house. Exit door in laundry didn't open posing a possible fire hazard. Front door top locking slide (right side looking to street from inside house) was frozen and would not engage.
