I pulled the following paragraphs on Thomas Pond trivia from Jon Whitney a local realtor's blog:
"The mood on Thomas Pond is relaxed. In fact, this is where Nathaniel Hawthorne, the famous 19th century author of The Scarlet Letter and many other works, used to enjoy relaxing as a kid. There is even a granite rock known as Inspiration Chair located along the shoreline that it is said he enjoyed sitting on.
Hawthorne spent some off his boyhood only a stones throw from Thomas Pond at his Uncle Richard Manning's home. According to the Hawthorne in Salem Web site, "Nathaniel and his friends could walk along broad Dingley Brook as it flowed down from its source, Thomas Pond, a half mile away. On its shores was the brickyard run by Jacob Watkins, which made the bricks necessary for the chimneys of the houses. From Thomas Pond, Nathaniel could see Rattlesnake Mountain, several miles away, a view which he loved." Today, family names in the area still include Dingley and Watkins. And in the summertime you can visit Hawthorne's home on nearby Raymond Cape Road in South Casco.
Tall white pines surround the 7.5 miles of shoreline. The lake covers 497 acres and has a maximum depth of 64 feet. The outlet, Dingley Brook, drains directly into Sebago Lake. Seasonal and year-round homes dot the shoreline."

This property offers many things, the cottage is beautiful and has all the comforts you need.
Beautiful morning views of the sunrise from the master bedroom or from the kitchen and also the living room area.
Hearing the loons was as loud as it gets compared to our home in the city.so relaxing.
The host Mary is just a phone call away to assist you with any questions you may have.

We thoroughly enjoyed this lakeside cabin. The beach front is perfect for swimming and paddling. And we utilized the kayaks and canoe everyday. The lake was very quiet and the neighbors friendly. I loved the cozy feel of the house. And I loved all the lakeside windows so you could really enjoy the view from kitchen living room and upstairs bedroom. The kitchen was well equipped to handle our multigenerational group. We would love to come back. And would highly recommend.

The lake house on Thomas Pond was very comfortable and very clean. We enjoyed kayaking, watching and listening to the loons, eating at local venues and just relaxing. Mary was a wonderful host and left us with a detailed welcome packet but responded quickly to any questions. Thanks Mary for a great week! Diane &Tom

Wow! Isla's Will was a stunning location. Peaceful and serene..just what we needed this summer. The cabin was clean, well-maintained, comfortable beds, and provided plenty of room. The kayaks and the wifi service were both, a welcomed bonus. We had such a wonderful time relaxing on the deck overlooking the water.
Our host, Mary, was so easy to work and her welcome packet included so many local suggestions for hikes, restaurants, and adventures.
What a wonderful vacation! We hope to get back soon.

We had a great stay. The lake was very quiet with hardly any boaters. The cottage was located close to restaurants. Residents are very watchful about maintaining the speed limit on the road we stayed on and quick to complain.

Family vacation at Thomas Pond, Casco, Maine
We had a great week at the lake (Second week in July 2022). The weather was perfect. The house has a private beach with a dock and swim raft. We went swimming, kayaking and canoeing everyday.

Great vacation
The house was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the water was great. Very relaxing and quiet. Great place to stay as they had everything. We enjoyed kayaking and found an island Mary talked about. We're very picky house renters and Isla's Will fit the bill.

Perfect early fall vacation spot.
This is a close-to-Portland and very convenient location situated at the end of a road, so despite proximity to suburban Maine, it is mostly a private site. The house was nicer even than the pictures depict and very much as described by both the lovely owners and the previous guests. It is more house than cabin or camp and even has air conditioning (smart move given that summers are getting warmer). The WiFi connection was excellent and we were all three able to work and Zoom without a hitch. For an end-of-September stay, it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful with very few of the many houses on all sides of the pond occupied, so we mostly had the pond to ourselves. Given the number of houses I would think this pond quite busy in peak summer—ideal for a family vacation with children or teens—with this house’s spot adjacent to a wooded natural area being quite prime. Our visit coincided with the moon’s peak and the moon rises were spectacular, directly across the pond. Our last night we had an owl calling. The loons were there daily (and nightly) as were a number of ducks (wood ducks and mallards), herons, woodpeckers, chickadees and plenty of lingering warblers and vireos.

Great Get Away
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Isla's Will very much. Property was clean and very organized. We loved our morning sunrise from the deck and kitchen. It was a full moon during our stay, so we enjoyed many gorgeous moon rises as well. Loon calls in the evening echo over the pond. Beautiful sound to hear. The chipmunks and turtles were quite entertaining. We saw a couple eagles fly by. We hiked a bit in the wildlife area next to cottage. Very nice. The view from hawk mountain is absolutely amazing. Mary is a very nice woman. Communication with her could not be any easier. She has so much information about our stay, it left little to no questions. However, we knew if we needed anything, she was just a phone call away. Our visit was just the two of us, but plenty of room for more adults and children. The atmosphere is very welcoming and homie. We felt quite comfortable as soon as we got there. My husband enjoyed fishing from the dock. We were sad to leave this slice of heaven. We hope to be back next year. Thank you Mary. We loved Isla's Will.

Serene
We had a nice week. The location is fabulous and Mary is a wonderful host. We kayaked, fished and swam. Walked the trail and biked the road. Used the canoe and had a couple camp fires and roasted marshmallows. We saw a kingfisher, the loons came up close while we were kayaking. The eagle swooped down and snagged a fish right in front of us on one trip. Blue Heron flew between us just minutes after.
The pond is nice and quiet. Perfect for a get away. The camp fit the four of us perfectly with room for visitors.

Quiet, pristine lake yet close to everything
Everybody in my family loved the house and the lake. The lake itself is pristine and clear - a lot of wildlife too, from ducks to loons to turtles to a majestic bald eagle. The water was warm and the kids spent many hours in the water each day. As far as cottage, it was comfortable and spotless, we were thankful for air conditioner since it was actually quite hot during the week that we stayed. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well-stocked and Mary is one of the most attentive and pleasant hosts I ever had to deal with. Thank you for the wonderful week.

Corona escape
This was a great time to get away from it all. We were really able to stay put most of the week because we never wanted to leave the amazing views and peaceful paradise. It really is an incredible private little lake. Not much boat traffic. Mary’s spot is ideal- so serene. We did a day trip to Portland and some hikes . Sunset on Hackers hill was spectacular and the I’ve cream at mosquitos so good!

Wonderful home and location for a vacation
This lakefront home was a great place for our family to enjoy. The home accommodates the family including a four year old. The property has several places from which to enjoy the lakefront view, eat a meal, read a book and even a small lawn area for some games. The water, deck and float where great and the lake itself is fairly quiet, clean and not too developed. The kitchen was very well equipped and allowed the family to make some amazing meals. The owner was very helpful through the process.

Peaceful, easy, beautiful retreat
First, Mary was SO easy to deal with. It was covid and things were changing. But we were planning to just isolate by ourselves up there. She was super easy to talk to, quick responses, very thoughtful about her COVID prep (like advised us to bring our own pillows just in case, of took the jigsaw puzzles out of the house bc they’re porous). We just brought some of our own games but I appreciated that she thought things through.
The house was perfect for a single family, maybe 2. We had kayaks, and the swim platform, and discovered little islands on Thomas pond. We saw turtles, frogs, eagles, loons. It was just beautiful and relaxing from morning to night. We figured out grocery and food delivery. Drove through some cute towns that we’ll explore next time. It really reset us and we’ll be back!

Perfect, Relaxing Stay on Thomas Pond
This home on Thomas Pond was the perfect place for relaxing and enjoying the region near Sebago Lake. Mary was the perfect host, very responsive and helpful in all her suggestions. The house was extremely clean and well stocked on the end of a peninsula, so extremely quiet and private. They supplied 3 kayaks and a canoe which we utilized at least once a day. The pond is large enough with undeveloped areas and coves to make the kayaking and birding always interesting. We saw Loons, osprey, an eagle and migrating birds. There were plenty of places to hike for all ages. We especially enjoyed the views from Hawk Mountain and the Beaver Loop Trail in Sebago State Park. During this period with the Coronavirus, we felt perfectly safe, isolated but never bored. I would highly recommend this wonderful home and hope to return.

You found what you’re looking for
Location, location, location. Mary’s cottage is what anyone would think of for a lake house getaway in Maine...and then some. No pictures can describe the beauty and vastness of this place. At the end of a dead end street, there’s one neighbor and nothing but woods and a quiet little cove to yourself. Amazing views from every window. We spent a week and only left the cottage for a day trip to Portland and another to check out Hacker’s Hill. Plenty of space for any kid’s imagination to run wild! Thank you Mary for going above and beyond any owner we’ve come across in the past 4 years using HomeAway. One other note, my wife is a chef and the plethora of local food we were able to find blew us away! Maine has much more to offer than just lobster! Highly recommend this place to families looking for an amazing relaxing vacation. Can’t say enough, enjoy!

Home Away From Home
A beautiful lake front house with all the amenities of home. The flowers as you walk down the path from the driveway to the house are very welcoming. We had everything we needed to be comfortable. We had fun rowing and fishing around the lake on the 3 kayaks and canoe that are provided along with life jackets of various sizes. There is a lot of boat traffic on the lake on weekends with lots of people watching. The motorized boaters were very courteous of those paddling. The fishing was great, my son caught a 5-6 pound large mouth bass which made his day. We visited over the 4th of July and although we were not able to see the towns fireworks, the other residents of the lake sure did put on a spectacular fireworks show. This cabin is on the quiet side of the pond with a neighbor on one side, who we didn't see very much, and open space on the other side, so there is peace, quiet and privacy. We would definitely recommend this home to stay at.

Beautiful Property
This is a homey, well maintained very clean cottage right on the lake. We enjoyed our stay here. The owner is very accommodating and a pleasure to work with.
There is one quite large bedroom, one medium sized bedroom and a loft which offers no privacy but is suitable for children or family members.
Highly recommended for a quiet, private getaway that is not far from Portland.

Picture perfect setting
This home is everything it said it was and more. Plenty of room for our family of 8 to be enjoying the inside and activities of the outdoors.
Home was perfectly attended to with all our needs met and absolutely spotless. The setting outdoors was quiet and exactly what we all were looking for. Kids took a late September swim and used the kayaks then walked the trails. The host, Mary, was easy to email before the trip with area details and suggested activities. She is very kind and attentive. Didn't need to contact during the stay-we had everything we needed.
We absolutely suggest this home and would love to return. Thank you!

Isla’s Will was the perfect vacation. We couldn’t have asked for a more clean, well-stocked, relaxing place to call home for a week away. No complaints at all. The owners were excellent to work with. This home/property was very welcoming, most everything has been thought about for your stay. We enjoyed fishing, swimming, campfires, and the local ice cream shop. A day of shopping in Freeport is always a blast and fresh lobster from Old Portland as well. We definitely hope to stay again soon.

Serene location on a beautiful lake
If you are looking for rest and relaxation in a peaceful, picturesque setting - this is the place for you. The property is lovely and we were able to take advantage of nearly everything it offers - canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, sitting out by the fire pit and simply enjoying the view from the porch. The house is very convenient to services but the best part of the location is that it is so private and quiet. We plan to visit again next year.

So much more
Isla’s Way was everything it was advertised to be and so much more! Our family had one of our best vacations ever here. The cottage was pristine when we arrived, so clean with some very high end updates and lots of special touches. The kitchen had everything you could need including lots of counter space. The cottage is spacious inside, comfortable furniture and has so much outdoor space on the 2 decks, 2 docks and beautiful yard with fire pit. The grounds are lovely and well taken care of with beautiful plants and flowers everywhere. It is so private and peaceful!!
The lake was amazing the water was refreshing but not cold and crystal clear. The fishing was amazing!!! My son went out every morning at dawn and said he caught a fish about every 5-6 casts, even caught a very large one right off the dock. My daughter and I went kayaking every morning and with the large lake we had plenty of places to explore.
At night we played games, did jigsaw puzzles, played cards and watched movies, all of these come with the cottage. And a few nights we had fire pits and roasted marshmallows. The owner was so easy to work with and really cares about this property!
Lots to do in the area, hiking, day trips and shopping. We took the ferry from Portland to Peaks Island for a day trip and highly recommend that. You can rent golf carts there which is a great way to see the island.
I highly recommend Isla’s Way and hope to return soon!!

Great family vacation spot
Our family of 4 just spent a glorious week at Isla's Will on Thomas Pond. The house was very clean, well appointed and located in a very private spot at the end of the road. My boys ages 5 and 9 spent hours swimming and jumping off the float. We loved taking them for canoe rides and long walks around the neighborhood. We also loved the proximity to Naples and Windham where we enjoyed mini golf, the arcade and Lobster from Bob's. My husband and I enjoyed the peaceful location, the outdoor deck and the fishing. At night we enjoyed the fire pit. The lake is very quiet with little boat traffic. My boys loved the room with two twin beds and a secret nook that they could crawl into a play. The air conditioning/heat pump system kept us very cool on a few of the hottest nights. Other nights, the master bedroom has big windows facing the lake which we opened up and enjoyed the lake breezes. We would love to return and Mary was very easy to communicate with and helpful with questions.
