About this house rental
Cypress Hideaway is the perfect location on Carmel Point, just 2 blocks from the famous, white-sand Carmel Beach, and 3 blocks from Carmel River Beach in a quiet neighborhood. It is a lovely multi-level, redwood home with high open-beam ceilings that is spacious yet retains a cozy feel. It has a wood-burning fireplace, unique with a log built into the hearth area that came straight from Carmel River Beach about 40 years ago. It was designed and built with a love of nature, in a 'U' shape surrounding a large California Oak tree that sits beautifully in the center portion of the property. A lovely, large hedge of Cypress trees offers the utmost feeling of privacy in the yard and house. The house has a nice front sitting patio, beautiful for morning coffee, a deck off the master bedroom, and another patio off the 3rd bedroom/studio. Cypress Hideaway has 3 nicely-sized bedrooms (one king bed, and two with queen beds), and 3 baths, one with a sunken tub above which is a skylight where you can gaze at the stars above. It has a small, but fully functioning kitchen with all new appliances, dishes, utensils...etc. Located within walking distance from the historical Carmel Mission, downtown Carmel with myriads of shops and restaurants to enjoy, and Carmel Mission Ranch dining overlooking Carmel River Beach. Cypress Hideaway is a perfect vacation get away for families with children ages 6 and older, or couples wanting to experience the beauty and charm of Carmel living.

Perfect place for our family…it was great to have separate wings to retreat to & a big shared space to be together. The outdoor spaces are peaceful & private and the Oak Tree is from a fairytale. We especially loved our walks to the beach, wandering around the charming neighborhood & exploring Carmel. We will be back…highly recommend!! Nancy is responsive & helpful.

This home is so inviting and unique and one of the most unusual places we’ve stayed. This is an old, beautiful home with natural light in every room. The furniture, beds, linens and sheets, however, are all new and very comfy. It is a quiet location a few blocks away from the walk along Scenic drive and to beaches. We really enjoyed this visit!

The location was perfect to be able to do and see so much in a few days. The house floor plan was great for adult children. Carmel and surrounding areas are SO beautiful!

This was our second stay here at this very cozy home in a fantastic location in Carmel. Two blocks from the beach and an easy stroll downtown. The redwood home has great character and is very comfortable to relax in in-between various explorations in Carmel. The owner was great to work with, we will be back!

Super cozy 3 bedroom house that felt like home immediately. The less than two block walk to a beautiful beach with mesmerizing sunsets every evening made it feel extra special. I’d definitely stay again.

We spent several nights at Nancy's property to celebrate my daughter's birthday and enjoy a family vacation. The home was lovely, spacious, well-equiped, and very convenient to the beach. We loved our time in the treehouse and in Carmel!

My husband and I and our adult son and his girlfriend spend a lovely long weekend at Nancy’s place. The house was great, lots of privacy for everyone and a block from the beach. The kitchen is well-equipped, very large bright living room and overall spotless. My only 4 in the rating comes from all us all being surprised at how large and private the place felt. It is about a mile from downtown Carmel, so a long walk, but easy drive. Being just a block from the beach was great for morning walks and evening sunsets. We’d like to come back sometime.

Everything from start to finish was great! The house is absolutely charming...lots of stairs but not a problem. The location couldn't be better. We stayed during Big Sur Marathon weekend and the house was very close to the finish line. Even better, it was super close to the beach!

This property is in an excellent location. We loved wondering all over the neighborhood admiring the adorable gardens and cottages people have put a lot of love and care into. Very close to the beach as well. The tree in the middle of the property gave the feeling of living in a tree house. Very peaceful and green! There are lots of stairs, which wasn't a problem for us, but could be an issue for guests with mobility issues. Nancy is a great host!

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our time in Nancy’s home. It has a woodsy feel, with exposed redwood beams and skylights galore, and yet is a short walk to the beach. We also walked into the village several times (about 25 min walk) and enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Carmel Mountain Ranch, which is a quick walk.
There was plenty of space for our family of four and it was very clean and comfortable. There are lots of stairs, which was no problem at all for us but is important to know for those who need an accessible property. The host and caretaker were very responsive and helpful. We would stay here again without hesitation! Thank you!

This house is well equipped and has everything you need. The setting is quite nice with a big old tree right in the middle of the property. You can hear the ocean from the master bedroom. The location is fantastic for walking to the beach, and a quick ride into town. There are a lot of steps in this house so just be aware of that if you have mobility issues otherwise we cooked in a well equipped kitchen and used the house as a base to go hiking, and sightseeing. My favorite part of the day, was my morning run along the beach with all the locals and their doggies, and all the sea otters which were visible from the road/shore. Fortunately we had no rain when we were there around Christmas time. My only complaint was that it was hard to get warm in the house as the heat was difficult to regulate. Probably not an issue if you are there in spring, summer, fall.

Carmel is known for its artisans, natural woods, ocean sounds, fresh ocean air, and eating great market foods. When you step into this home, you fall into the very essence of choosing to visit Carmel-by-the-Sea. Beautiful stay, and all of us felt at home

We felt like we were staying in a treehouse! It is hard to find a three bedroom, three bathroom home in Carmel. This well equipped home was ideal.

Stayed with my wife and son before checking him at Berkeley. The house is built around a beautiful old tree and feels like a giant treehouse. Very clean, spacious and well kept. Location is amazing. Will definitely stay there again.

Fun, quirky house in an exceptional location! House was much bigger than I expected and had plenty of room for all 6 adults. Very quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors. Easy walk to the beach or town. We were in town for a wedding in Carmel Valley, this house was a quick drive away. Nancy was a great host and quick to respond to questions.
Only con is the limited parking for a mixed group like us (4 cars between the 6 of us). We ended up finding more parking around the neighborhood, but ultimately parked two cars at the wedding venue for the weekend. Parking was communicated prior to the stay, but when Nancy warns you it’s limited, IT IS limited!
Nevertheless, highly recommend “Cypress Hideaway!”

This house is perfect for those who want to walk to the beach and stay in a quiet neighborhood. If negotiating stairs is an issue for someone, this would not be the place for you. The kitchen is small but well stocked and would be sufficient for preparing meals. The bed linens and the mattress in the main bedroom were comfortable. In two of the bedrooms, there is a step down into the bathrooms, so middle-of-the-night use requires careful attention. The couches and recliner were very comfortable. It was a very warm weekend and we would have liked there to be more screens on the windows to be able to get better air flow into the main living area. Communication with the owner/manager was more than sufficient.

This was our second stay at the Cypress Hideaway. We enjoyed our stay last year, so we didn’t look any further when our plans brought us back a year later. Besides being within walking distance to two beaches and downtown Carmel the house is just fun. We call it the tree house because the house surrounds a beautiful tree and garden which you can see out of the many windows. The deck off the master bedroom was perfect for our afternoon cocktail hour and the living room feels like the perfect clubhouse with the comfortable furniture and Pacific breezes. Our second visit felt like coming home.

The house is charming and clean, with a nice garden and a majestic oak tree. It is also in a great location, close to beach and downtown. Nancy and her caretaker Doug were very responsive in their communications. We really enjoyed our time there.

Carmel Hideway
This house was great! It was just 3 short blocks to the beach, had plenty of room, and felt like living in a luxury tree house. We will definitely rent again.

DISAPPOINTED
This property needs major upgrading and updating. We were disappointed on finding how old all the furniture in the common areas and each bedroom was, including the bedding. The residence was clean, but didn’t feel so since everything was so worn (especially the carpeting) and dated.
We will not rent this property again.
However, any contact we had with the owner or caretaker was efficient and prompt. The location, of the home, did not disappoint either.

Charming hideaway in the trees
Lovely home. Cozy environment. Especially loved by our grandchildren (10 and 6)! Terrific location, short walk to the beach. Host and manager were both exceptionally pleasant and easy to work with. We hope to return!

Perfect location!!
Carmel-By-The-Sea is a magical little town. It’s as though someone picked up a little storybook village and nestled it into this gorgeous spot on the CA coast. We loved every minute there and Nancy’s home is a marvelous little spot. You are just a quick walk away from the beautiful beaches and the incredible little town, which is a very big deal in Carmel. The area is very residential and street parking isn’t easily found if you need to navigate the town with a car. We parked our car safely in Nancy’s private driveway and walked to two different beaches, one of which is so quiet it is as though you have your own private beach. Want to walk and see the sunset? Easy to do - only five minutes away. Walk to walk on the beach or just sit and watch the turquoise Pacific? So easy to do - beach access stairs are five minutes from the house. Want to walk into town for coffee or a pastry? Easy to do - a fifteen or twenty minute walk and you are in the heart of the town’s restaurants & shops. (Note: Our preference is always to be closer to the beaches. Parking in the town that gives you access to restaurants and shops can be found if you hunt, but finding places to publicly park near the beaches/beach access is really hard.) The house was beautifully clean and Nancy and Doug (the home’s caretaker) were extremely responsive and proactively provided all the info we could need. The home itself is built around a CA oak tree, which Nancy very accurately describes in her listing. That makes the design unique, and we found it very easy to navigate and fun to explore. All four members of our family enjoyed every minute of our time in Carmel, thanks to this amazing home that allowed us easy access to some of the most beautiful spots we have seen. It’s as though you get to be a Carmel local for the time you are here and that’s really special.

Great house, excellent location
We had a great time at this house. Due to creative design, almost every room has a lot of natural light, which we like. And its location in between two great beaches is perfect.
We left some clothes behind and the caretaker and owner were very helpful in getting them back to us. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Magical!
We had a magical stay at this house. It’s so unique and the location is fantastic. The skylights and windows let in lots of light. The kitchen is small but well-stocked and we easily made several meals there. The beds are comfortable and each bedroom has a lot of space with its own sitting area. There are interesting art and history books all around the house, which was an unexpected treat. Communication with the owner and property manager was great. As others have noted, just be aware that there are a lot of stairs and also some narrow passageways.
