We come up to the Mt. Shasta/McCloud/Dunsmuir area annually!
I was raised coming up to Cave Springs as a child. I have brought my family and friends yearly to this area to enjoy the lakes, rivers, waterfalls and hiking.
This was our first time at Falconcrest in Mt. Shasta. Family and friends thought the place was out of Disneyland’s Fantasyland. The spaciousness of rooms and living/gaming spaces was perfect.
The outdoor deck was the perfect way to start the morning in solitude and nature, and end the evening with games and snacks.
Even though you have neighbors it reminded us of more secluded places we’ve stayed at in McCloud.
Beds were comfortable and the 3 bathrooms were a perk! Kitchen was tight, but had everything you needed. Just not a lot of pantry room if your bringing food (so bring tubs).
The proximity to downtown Shasta was awesome. So, unfortunately we came in the middle of a heat wave. 5 days over 100 degrees. Not normal for the area - but happens every few years in July/August.
Most homes in the area do not have central AC - so if this is real important to you - look for it.
We were out of the property every day by 10:30 - 11 a.m. Shut down the windows and closed the shades and came back at 7 pm or so. House was manageable when we returned. Fans in every room helped - and the real important thing is this: downstairs rooms are naturally cooler; and upstairs masters can get nice and cool if you open bout huge windows, and turn out all the lights - so no bugs come in.
Those evenings were actually so beautiful and the room over the deck (without a screen) looks into the forest and it’s magical!
If your traveling with a large group, and teens/adults looking for some private spaces - this place is hard to beat!

Comfy but missing some important info
Our biggest struggle with this stay was not being told in advance that there was no drinking water on site. That's a big deal when staying at a home. We had to go to the store a couple times to buy jugs of water. Lockbox on the door was very problematic and property was very dated. Also the random assortment of space heaters made me nervous. It was a good neighborhood and location though. I was surprised that with the high cleaning fee paid, we still had to take out the garbage, run the dishwasher, strip the beds, and take linens and towels to the laundry room to start a load.

Winter wonderland
We arrived to the house in the middle of a snow storm and we’re pleased to have the roads plowed and graveled, driveway plowed, and walkway shoveled. Thank you for making it easier to unpack the car. The bedrooms in the house were cold upon arrival, but many space heaters were available to help make it comfortable. We built a fire and looked out at the snow. Cozy place.

Nice unique home, but some things need updated. Also, highly recommend a new lock box. Very difficult to use.

White Christmas Wonderland
It was truly a white Christmas. We celebrated a few days after Christmas. When we arrived the snow covered ground was amazing. 2 fireplaces, in the 3 story cottage home. Something for everyone, even a snow hill the kids got to take the sleds on. My only complaint was out of the 4 beds only 2 were comfortable. Yes, I would go back, sleeping on one of the left room side, beds

Great location for a get together
The location is fantastic. Quiet and beautiful surroundings. The house has character. Great views from the main bedrooms. Furniture is a bit dated.

Nice house, but very dirty!
We rented this house during holidays! Very disappointed in cleanliness and safety of the house! The also handled the situation in very rude way. We stayed 2 night at the property! The carpet was dark, very dusty, Spiders are seen at some corners, the bedsheets are all in darker colors, not sure if washed or not! The beds are not stable, so my friend who has a toddler slept on the floor by moving their mattress!
The ceiling light downstairs is almost falling down!
We paid for cleaning fee! After we checked out the property, they left the note and said they they are charging for extra cleaning fee and unauthorized visitors! We were surprised and responded accordingly but she is now not responding to my emails anymore!
Very interesting experience we had!! Really need to appreciate the guests who trusted in their service!

Christmas House
We enjoyed Christmas week at this house with our 2 daughters and three grandchildren. It was a very special and wonderful Christmas being able to be together in a magical place. The kids enjoyed the snow and playing outside. We had plenty of room for all of us to spread out. The dining table that seats 12 was perfect for family meals together.

Luckily no one was under him. I witnessed it happening, Cld have been very bad if it had happened at nite when his sister was underneath on the other mattress. I took a picture of it and then my son took it down.Other than this unfortunate thing, we all enjoyed our stay very much.

Positive and negatives
The surrounding area was very nice. The beds were very comfy and we had plenty of space for the 8 adults staying. Had everything in the house that was needed. The only negative was it could have been a little cleaner inside. It was not dusted well and there were a lot of spiderwebs in the house and bugs in the webs . Endtables need some cleaning done behind them and the deck and outside furniture could have been cleaned off.

The right place
We travel with a large group of family and friends all over the country. We stay in VRBO exclusively and have always been pleased with this home for our gatherings. So much room for kids and adults alike to get away and get together. We spend a tremendous amount of time in the deck. Can't go wrong with this home.

Beautiful location; some issues with the house
The location is beautiful. Very private and quiet. Trees all around, so the house stays cooler in hot weather. The train whistle isn't nearly as loud as it is when you are staying closer to town. It is only a 5 minute drive on nice country roads to get to downtown.
The house itself has a lot of character, but it has some issues. Many of the windows don't have screens, and some won't open. The basement area that has bedrooms and a bathroom is very dark. The upstairs bedrooms have a lot more light and nice views. The front door lock is so stiff, it is very difficult to turn the key. There is a drip irrigation system that comes on in the morning. When it is on, there is no water at all in the upstairs bathroom.

pros and cons
This is a beautiful property and we enjoyed our stay. Couple of positive criticism:
1) It can be very hot inside during summer. Fans are old and not all work well.
2) The door that opens to the garage doors can not be locked,so the whole week the door was unlocked ... day and night. We tried to pull it up but we could not.
3) The left front stove burner was slow to get hot, compared to the the other three. It took a longer time to cook.
Other than this, we enjoyed our stayed and hope to be back.

Dark house and Not clean
The house isn't messy, but the floors were not clean at all. We're expected to strip all the beds, bring all the towels into the laundry room and start a load of laundry, take out all the trash, and do all the dishes before leaving while there's a $150 charge for cleaning. Even at $30 per hour, there's no way anyone is spending 5 hours cleaning that house.

Lovely Home, well managed
Great place in a prime location. Downstairs is really good for kids and teenagers and easy going adults. Kitchen is well equipped and patio is great. Two rooms on top floor are very comfortable with lovely windows.
Everything was great other than our interaction with HomeAway which gets an F-. The actual managers of the property is M. Shasta Vacation Rentals who were amazing- kind, ethical and helpful- the antithesis of HomeAway! Contact them directly!

gathering deck
This home fit our large family group perfect. Just close enough to everything to be convenient. The kitchen was great for all our meals. Favorite thing about the place was the large deck. We spent a lot of time out there. Kids had room to roam and adults got to chat and have some wine in the pines. Great for a large group.

This property needs a little money put into it.
We loved the setting and look of the house. It is time the owners put some money in to the place. Kitchen items are old and gross. Water pressure is terrible. This makes showers near impossible. Screens need to be on all windows. A fan in each room would be nice, especially since there is no air conditioner.

An exceptional property for a large family
This is a GREAT property. Well decorated, with functionality and style throughout. All at the same time, not too fussy. Easy to accommodate toddlers, teens, and grandparents too. Centrally located, while away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. Each room has wonderful details of craftsmanship with reclaimed beams, stained glass doors, a true craftsman's house with modern day comfort. We can't wait to reserve next year!
Thank you!
