Make sure you get travel insurance, this host will not let you cancel for any reason! The location is awesome, house is very dated but clean and big! We had an issue with a kayak sinking, thanks to a life vest turned out ok, please bring life vests if you plan to use the boats. The listing is old, lawn games, ect were not there. Host was very responsive if you need anything.

The house, beach and view was everything and more than what was described to me by Paul before coming out. The kitchen was fully stocked, the view from the master bedroom was gorgeous. The house was very spacious. Paul (the owner) was very helpful and accommodating. This was the best family vacation so far since starting our yearly vactions 9 years ago

The property was clean and well equipped for our group. Lake superior and the beach were beautiful.

Paul was a wonderful host, responding to the questions we had and one door lock incident quickly. There were more than enough amenities for cooking and the kitchen was amazing. We would highly recommend this property to larger families, the house is large enough for everyone to be together or large enough to “get away” if the feeling presents itself.
The beach and fire pit area are beautiful, both kids and adults are fully visible at all times.

It felt like we had the beach to ourselves! Crystal clear water, sandy bottom as far as you can walk out. The house was large enough we could put the kids to bed and the adults could stay up and talk in the kitchen area without waking anyone up. Highlights were sitting around the firepit and playing frisbee in Lake Superior. We are already talking about going back in a few years.

We stayed at this location from July 23-July 30 with a group of 24 people (16 adults and 8 children - age 6 and under). The location is amazing: secluded, private and right on the water. You'll want to plan accordingly because you are 45 minutes away from Marquette, where the grocery stores are.
The house is large, with various rooms and living areas. It was perfect for our group to feel spread out and have privacy when we wanted it, yet big enough to all be in the same area at the same time. There are a ton of items available for your use in the kitchen or stored in closests (fans, cleaning products, pack n play, high chair, sippy cups, etc).
Some items were broken or missing pieces, such at the pool sticks, puzzles and games. We brought or purchased some of our own stuff (cornhole, fishing poles, pool sticks, board games) though so we were fine. Water pressure was lighter than our liking and there were several light bulbs out throughout the house. We found the stove in the main kitchen area difficult to light as well.
We rented the pontoon boat for the week, but only ended up taking it out two days during our stay. Perkins Park is a great place to hang out as a family and be able to use the boat.
Paul was amazing to communicate with before and during the trip. I was concerned about paying in advance for a non-refundable trip, but Paul eased my mind and explained why they list the house that way (to protect themselves from last minute cancels). We spoke again just before the trip and he gave recommendations for grocery stores, pizza place (Vango's was amazing!), logistics for how to enter the home, etc. He was a pleasure to work with.
Some of the decor and finishes in the home are older, but that wasn't important to our group. The outdoor area with the firepit (firewood is included) and being right on the beach was so convenient and enjoyable. It was nice to be able to go down to the water and back up to the house without having to load everyone in the car and drive. The sunsets and sunrises were breathtaking.
We had an amazing time. I would certainly travel to Michigan and enjoy this rental again as well. If you have a large group and want to be under one roof, I high recommend this location!

Perfect UP Getaway for a Family Reunion
My husband and I rented this amazing place for our family reunion with our children, their spouses and our grandkids, as well as my siblings and some of their families. It allowed for the perfect set up for people congregating together, having their separate places to retreat to when they needed some yet quiet. The location on Big Bay was amazing! The bay water was very comfortable for swimming and shallow for our little ones for quite a ways out. The winds from Lake Superior were not as strong, so they made it comfortable for hanging out on the beach, laying in the hammocks or sitting on the amazing deck space. We were able to find many hiking trails with beautiful waterfalls close by! The house itself was very well equipped and comfortable for serving meals. Paul, the owner was very approachable and accommodating, as well as very resourceful. We certainly hope to return sometime in the future!

UP Family Fun
We just wrapped up a weeklong stay at this property and it was wonderful. The house was large enough to comfortably accommodate our party of 18 with ages ranging from five to 75. The main house kitchen was well stocked had a very large stove with gas burners and a flat cooktop that made breakfast for 18 (relatively) painless. The older cousins took over the basement bedrooms along with the pool table and their own bathroom and television. The little ones loved digging in the sand just outside in the backyard on the shores of Lake Superior. Everyone gathered around the fire pit every night to watch the sunset and make S’mores. The owner, Paul, could not have been more helpful. He pointed us in the right direction to explore the best nearby spots and was even gracious enough to being us a set of jumper cables when one of our vehicles wouldn’t start. I can wholeheartedly recommend this property. We had a great week!

A real good time away from work
We all had a wonderful time. Really stocked well in every way. Kids had fun with games. Beautiful views of the lake from the house and great collection of books. Something for all ages. Enjoyed our stay thoroughly at the beach and the house. A suggestion I would like to make is to change the plumbing fixtures on most of the showers.

Perfect spot for a family reunion
This house offered all the space our family (20) required. Given the ages, we could all comfortably gather at the sandy beach right outside the front door. In the evenings, the fire pit was perfect and we marveled at the vast, brightly lit starry skies. As for the vrbo proper, all the beds were so comfy. The kitchen was well-stocked. The only two drawbacks were that all the knives were quite dull and the large commercial size grill was not clean.
Many of us agreed that spending a lifetime there would not be enough to read all the books on the shelves. The main living room was perfect for gathering for meals and games and the selection of vhs videos was perfect for buying a little bit of time with the little ones.
Overall, if you have a large group who wants to take in the beauty of Lake Superior, this is the place.

Best Wedding Venue in the UP!
This is a premier property! Everything about our stay was perfection and the resort is absolutely breathtaking! Paul is the most accommodating host and our entire stay was an outstanding experience resulting in many fun family memories. The beach was perfect for our wedding and the fantasy beach house could not have worked better for our reception meal. This is truly a one in a million gem of a rental and I recommend it 100%!

nice place with helpful owner
This is al lovely spot with miles of beach to walk. Great biking, kayaking/canoing and hiking of all levels. The town of Marquette is about 1/2 hour away and has everything you might need. The owner lives nearby and was very attentive to the minimal concerns our group had. Fantastic kitchen/great area that easily accomodated our group of 20 people. Highly recommended!

June 2021 Family Trip
We could not have asked for a better location and rental house for our large family trip. It provided plenty of space for each of the families to spread out and the large kitchen and dining area were great for meals. We were able to set up a volleyball court at the beach and easily paddle, bike, and run from the house.

Spacious & relaxing
Paul was wonderful at communication both before and during the trip. The home is massive and was plenty of space for 6 adults and 5 children. The kitchen was well appointed and lathe enough for us all to be together in. The house was extremely quiet both inside and out, you couldn't hear the others in the house or the outside weather at all. The beach was fantastic and the kids all had a great time playing. We did a lot of walks up and down the beach and the road. It was very private and overall a wonderful stay for everyone. We could not be happier with the accomodations, cleanliness, location, and host!

Perfect weather, perfect house, perfect family vacation
We rented the entire property for 8 adults and 10 kids. Secluded enough that we didn't feel uncomfortable around too many people, plenty of room for all of us. For that many we ended up using both kitchens to prepare meals. Paul was very helpful. He told us about some really nice places to visit, and a wonderful river to kayak for all ages. We were virtually cut off from the rest of the world. The internet didn't work without a hot spot, and neither did my cell phone. I liked it.

Amazing Stay at Big Bay
Our group had one of the most fun long weekends of our summer! Paul made it clear from the beginning he was there to help if needed, and if not to go have fun! The property was unbelievably beautiful and suited our group great. Anyone looking to go to the U.P. should check this spot out!

Family Vacation
Beachfront location is excellent. Owners Paul & Gina were accessible & responsive at all times. Very private...
We used the entire home for the 15 of us (10 adults & 5 kids) so there was plenty of room to spread out.
There is some wear-&-tear from the constant use/occupancy - e.g., one of the double ovens was non-functional, cracked window in the downstairs cabin unit, drain stopper in the hallway bath of the main floor unit was broken & would not remain in the "empty" position without physically holding the lever down. Wifi provided was not useful - unsure if because of weak signal from provider or a weak router. Even if within line of sight of router, signal was very very weak.
These "nuisance items" didn't prevent an enjoyable week for us.
Visitors will want to be aware that it will be necessary to travel east to Marquette for a grocery store. Big Bay is quite small. We enjoyed a charter fishing trip out to Stannard Rock with Sore Arms Charters located about 3 minutes away from Tranquility Haven. Terrific experience!

Enjoyable Family Reunion
Each year we schedule a week for a family reunion including our three grown children plus their spouses and eight grandchildren. This year we decided to check out Michigan’s UP and we weren’t disappointed. Our host was very helpful and responsive to our needs . The house provided more than ample room for all of us, in fact there were several areas of the house we didn’t use since there was so much space. The view from the house overlooking Big Bay and Lake Superior was outstanding with beautify sunrises and sunsets. Also the kitchen has a commercial grade stove for those who like to cook.

Great Property for a Large Group/Gathering
Tranquility Haven was the perfect place for our large family gathering/anniversary celebration! The ages in our party ranged from 18 months to 70 years and this amazing rental provided both privacy for individuals and plenty of large spaces for meals/activities. Everything needed for a large group can be found here as Paul has crockpots, pack 'n play beds for infants, games, movies, washer/dryers, and tons of seating indoors and outdoors. The beach truly is soft sand and there is a fire pit that is perfect for s'mores and sing-alongs. The remote location in Big Bay, MI is perfect for disconnecting...and reconnecting with family. (Wifi actually is a bit spotty and our AT&T service did not work here). The property owner was always accessible but not intrusive. We loved our time at Tranquility Haven and would not hesitate to recommend it to other families/groups! You will not be disappointed in this one.

Lake Superior Heaven
We have been renting houses for one week in the summer for many years now, and this one is definitely the best. This property is very beautiful and in a very lovely remote area. We enjoyed the nice sandy beach of Lake Superior which went on forever, and the kayaks and canoe that came with. Paul, our host, was very helpful, always answered his phone, and fixed things that needed attention. We took many of his suggestions for hikes and greatly enjoyed them all. Our king size bed in the master bedroom was exceptionally comfortable, and I didn’t hear any complaints about the others. The whole week was a wonderful adventure. We hope to return some day.

PS: I wouldn’t advise ordering pizza from the Thunderbay Inn in Big Bay. We ordered six pizzas, paid $122, and they were thin, dried out, burned, and not worth 5 cents.

Lovely location; large, comfortable house
I rented this house for a reunion of 11 friends from around the country, many of whom have stressful lives and jobs. The house and grounds are magnificently spacious and comfortable, and the setting is both dramatic and peaceful. Some folks took full advantage of outdoor activities with kayaks and canoes, and nearby hiking and sightseeing. Others took advantage of the well-equipped kitchen to cook large meals, or the common areas both indoors and outdoors either to work a puzzle, read a book, sit quietly, or have conversations. The firepit and available fire wood were a godsend, especially for the night-owls. On one especially clear night when it wasn't too windy and the bugs weren't bothersome, we enjoyed a fire well into the night and found that glimmers of light remained in the sky until well after 11:00pm. Be prepared for a northern vacation--i.e., some days are gloriously blue and warm; others can be windy and quite chilly, even in mid-summer. Some days will be gloriously un-buggy; others will bring out either the mosquitoes or the black flies. But the skies (dramatic sunrises, sunsets, and clouds), the trees, the well-appointed house, and that magnificent setting on Lake Superior make up for any possible negatives. A week at this lovely property will bring peace and calm to even the most stressed out individual.

Lots of space for everyone to enjoy. Liked that everyone could eat together and play games in the Beach House. Wish the weather and flies would have cooperated so we could have enjoyed the beach more.

Great for a family reunion
We had a large family, actually several families with little kids. We all had our own space and a large common area for gathering and meals. The lake and the beach were great and the outdoor space was very nice.

Yooper Paradise for a Crowd
This home on Big Bay offers a wonderful getaway location with exceptional views and plenty to do. Our extended family spent a week here. We'd recommend it for the location, the spacious accommodations and the sunsets! The house was ideal for a large group (There were 21 of us, the youngest being 16 yo). Each day we'd go on an outdoor adventure (nearby hikes, trips into Marquette, rock jumping, kayaking). Each evening we'd cook a family meal, and gather on the beach for sunsets. Twilight seemed to linger for hours. The outdoor area is especially great with plenty of chairs, tables, hammocks, swings, grills, birdbaths, benches, shade trees and a beautiful sandy beach along a massive bay that is perfect for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding or hanging out and watching the day slip into night. The main house is filled with light, modern and comfortable. The main kitchen is well stocked, easy to work in and can accommodate a crowd. (There are several refrigerators onsite which was helpful for a big group.) The great room is filled with books, movies, maps and more. The cabin accommodations, however, could use some updating and TLC. They are dated and out of synch with the rest of the home. Paul, the host, was helpful during the booking process and quick to respond when we had questions leading up to our trip. He dropped in several times during our stay. Also of note, there was plenty of room to park cars because the owner has an empty lot adjacent to the property that can be used for overflow. This home is a real gem in a beautiful part of MI. We all fell in love with the UP and we all agreed that this home -- on this beautiful bay -- was perfect for us!
