About this house rental
Our home is very comfortable, attractively furnished, more than fully equipped and accommodating for groups of family and friends.
Beautiful new wood floors on the main floor which has cathedral ceilings and includes our open living room, dining room and kitchen with center island. Both the living room fireplace and the dining room stove are wood burning.
Dining room table seats 12 with more seating in the breakfast nook and at the kitchen island.
New carpet throughout the rest of our home with 2 bedrooms on the main floor, each with queen beds and a beautifully remodeled bath upstairs with large walk in shower. On the lower level there are 2 full baths, 1 king, 1 queen and a bunk room with 2 single bed over double bed bunks. There are a couple of rollaway beds, queen aeromattress and pack’n play, high chair seat, baby monitor, stair gates for little ones. Laundry Room is on the lower floor as well.
Our home is fully equipped with linens, kitchen staples, all typical small appliances (including Instantpot, large Electric Frying Pan, Crockpot), paper products, bath products/hair dryers. WIFI throughout the house; TV/DVD in living room, upstairs bedroom and in the bunk room.
Firewood and snow removal are provided in winter. We plow in front in the winter so there is enough parking for about 4 cars on flat ground along with a single garage space.
There are 2 furnished decks - large one in the fenced back yard (with tree house) and the balcony in front. There is a Weber gas barbecue.
We are just outside of Tahoe City off of 89. It’s 10 minutes to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows (Palisades) ski areas. Homewood Ski Area is south of us. There is a a sledding hill and ski hill at Granlibakken which is 5 minutes from here.
The bike trails are 1 block from the house and tennis courts, park and playground just down the road. Many great beaches are found here, one in Tahoe City and several south of us. Meeks Bay is our family favorite.
Tahoe City is a great lakeside town with lots of restaurants, shops, grocery stores, etc. Truckee is about 15 minutes from here - South Shore Casinos and Reno are about a 45 minute drive. Stateline Casinos are about a 30 minute drive.

Good for gatherings in need of 5 bedrooms.

This home was a good size for my big family - children to grandchildren. From the bedrooms to living areas, we didn’t feel on top of each other. The kitchen was well stocked, & we enjoyed using the barbeque. The location was within driving distance to the beach, river rafting, Tahoe City (miniature golf-restaurants) & a nice playground for the kiddos. We all enjoyed our stay!

We recently stayed at this vacation rental with family and friends. I thought the property was excellent and in a great location. The rooms were nicely kept and maintained, and the unit had everything as mentioned in the listing. The kitchen was also well equipped, making cooking meals easy for our group. Due to the snow, the side entrance was inaccessible, so the lower-level rooms were only accessible after going through the top level. Another small issue was that checkout could be easier. After paying so much in cleaning fees, I don't want to wash and dry all the linens. Overall, however, this is a pretty good property for large families.

Had a great time in Tahoe! Tons of snow. The girls had a blast with their friends skiing and sledding. The cabin was huge and very cozy at the same time. It was perfectly located near Tahoe City. Everything was clean and comfortable. I would come back for sure.

This is a perfect house for 3 or 4 families going on a ski vacation. There are lots of bedrooms, comfortable beds, and enough bathrooms and showers to accommodate a large number of people. The house is clean with lots of living space to play games and hang out. Of special note is the large very well-stocked kitchen. We were able to make shared meals and desserts -- there are all sizes and kinds of pans, pots, and baking dishes. Also, great communication with the host. Thank you Irene!

This was a family reunion with lots of older adults, a teen and dog. The house is made for large groups and comfortably fit all of us. We really enjoyed the lovely patio space for reading and catching up with relatives!

Fabulous spot walking distance to hiking trails, Tahoe City, and the lake. A quick drive to Alpine or Palisades. Having some of the bedrooms downstairs was great for putting kids to bed. The layout is kind of weird with two separate staircases, but the rooms were all nice, the kitchen had everything we need, and tons of seating for a large group. The deck was spacious and great for everyone to hang outside and grill. While we were there there happened to be a ton of pollen falling from all the pine trees in the yard, so we had to wipe furniture off every time we used it. Tons of towels and bathroom supplies. I'd definitely stay again! Thanks!

My friends and I stayed in Irene's cabin for a ski trip to Palisades tahoe. The cabin was very conveniently located right by tahoe city, which made it an easy drive to the resorts. The property was very well maintained and there were plenty of beds for everyone. Irene was very responsive about communications. Would definitely recommend!

The house was nice, spacious enough for our family, friends and kids. The best fence was a little intimidating, and the branches and snow that fell off the roof scared some of us, but the owner informed us of everything well in advance and we were all fully aware of the possibilities.
Well taken care of with more than enough information and help from the owner

We rent frequently up in Tahoe 1-2 weekends a month during ski season. This place has a ton of beds to sleep, spacious, and a great cabin vibe. Also less than a mile from Tahoe City and a short car ride to Palisades/Alpine. Will definitely rent again! The pictures do not do it justice.

The layout of the house was perfect for our large group and was especially accommodating to different schedules. The noise from the upstairs does not travel at all to the downstairs bedrooms, which was great for both the night owls and early risers. The kitchen is well stocked with every size and type of pan, serving dish and utensil. Everyone enjoyed the location as well. It is a short walk into Tahoe City and the lake, plus the house is conveniently located near major roads. The bear fence is a little intimidating, but Irene provided very thorough instructions that even included photos.

We had a great time at this house! We went with all of our extended family and had a wonderful trip. The layout and bedrooms were great sizes with lots of room for everyone to have space and feel comfortable. Close to town, the lake and amenities. The hosts were super responsive and helpful with all of our questions.

I really appreciate that the host had essentials already in the home. It was well stocked with everything to cook meals.

Such a great place! The pics don't do it justice, will absolutely be back! Great summer location and I'm sure it would be a great ski one too
Great host interaction as well!

We had 3 families with a total of 13 people in the house and it was wonderful. The layout of the house made you feel like you weren't on top of each other but was open enough that you could be fully engaged with everyone even if you were cooking in the kitchen. The backyard is huge and the kids had so much fun building sled ramps and snowmen.

We had a large group of people (and 3 dogs!) get together for a family retreat over the 4th of July holiday, and the Hungry Bear Lodge was even better than we all could have hoped for! From the beginning, the homeowner was amazing to work with, very quick with every response and always provided helpful information (we also received our deposit back in less than a week - great!). The home itself is perfect, and most of the previous comments have already mentioned the highlights: great location, well equipped, two lovely deck spaces and an awesome yard. There was no grass in the yard (hard to come by grassy yards in Tahoe I think) but the dogs didn’t seem to mind at all - it was great just to have all the space. The home had a welcoming cabin feel, but it also felt a lot larger than I would have guessed. There was plenty of living space to gather together but at the same time it was nice to be able to go off into various areas of the home when we all needed our own space to relax after a long day! I was a bit nervous to hear that dogs were only allowed on one floor of the house (this rule is in consideration for travelers with allergies, and I definitely can respect that) but it turns out that dogs are allowed on the main floor with the living space and there was tons of room for them anyway - and I have a really large dog! I was also a bit intimidated when I heard about the bear gate, but it is super easy to use and it was obviously nice to feel safe (although we didn’t end up spotting any bears anyway!). The only “issue” we had - if you can call it that - was we had trouble working the washing machine, but with a quick email to the homeowner (she responded almost immediately) our problem was very easily solved! Everyone in my family couldn’t stop commenting on how perfect this trip worked out, and it’s mainly thanks to the Hungry Bear Lodge. I have never used the HomeAway service before, but after such a great experience with the Hungry Bear Lodge I am inspired to use it again. And I certainly would recommend staying here, we are all so happy we did!

A group of 18 of us decided to get together for a ski trip this winter and found this wonderful place to stay that's merely ~20 minutes away from Squaw Valley! The itinerary was worked out pretty last minute due to the large number of people involved, and we couldn't be happier to find Hungry Bear Lodge that is so well-equipped and relieves us from last-minute planning stress! Not only was Irene super responsive and accommodating throughout our communication but also did she provide us with a very detailed handbook on everything we needed to know about the house. The only slight issue we had throughout our stay was we couldn't contact the snow plow person to help us clear the snow outside of the house for our cars and had to do some shuffling, but we still managed to make it work. There is also a slight uphill coming in from Tahoe City and a couple of our small cars were having trouble making it back to the house after dinner, but it was fine after we put the chains back on and that might be something to be aware of. We received our security deposit back about 2 weeks after our vacation; while we had expected to receive it back a little sooner, it was not unreasonably long and we were overall very pleased with our experience at the Hungry Bear Lodge!

Recently my daughter got married and I arranged to rent the "Hungry Bear Lodge" for the occasion and what a great decision that was. It is exactly as advertised! Comfortable, spacious and convienent. It will always be a part of the special memories I have of my girls special day! Having so many family members together to share in the celebration was great. You will not be desappointed!

We had the challenge of finding Tahoe lodging for multiple families, and the Hungry Bear Lodge provided the ideal solution. There are several gathering places throughout the house and, best of all, a dining table large enough to fit the whole group. The juxtaposition of new appliances with classic architecture and design made the lodging both homey and functional. Shopping, skiing, recreation, etc. are just minutes away. We would definitely come here again.

The Hungry Bear Lodge was the perfect vacation cabin with room to spare for 15 friends on a ski retreat. Convenient to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, it had good size common areas for games and meals, as well as comfortable rooms for sleeping. Highly recommended for a fun weekend year round.

Great property with lots of space. Comfortably fit 12 adults for a wedding weekend. Great communication. Would stay again.

We had a group of ten old friends in town for a wedding in Tahoe City. The Hungry Bear was perfect! Plenty of beds for couples and singles, more than enough space inside and out on the deck for all of us to hang out and catch up with each other. The house is just a mile from town and easy to get back and forth by car or by foot as well as easy access to public beaches.
Irene couldn't have been lovelier to work with to secure everything - she was very responsive and provided tons of information so we were well prepared for our visit. Within two days of our return, I received a note letting me know my security deposit refund was on its way.
I would definitely recommend the Hungry Bear. We couldn't have been happier with our stay!

When I was looking for a cabin to rent for the 4th of July weekend, I needed to make sure that it had at least 4 bedrooms, Wi-Fi, a fenced back yard, a deck, a barbecue, in a good location and enough room in the kitchen area for our big group to play games and eat meals together. This cabin met all those requirements and more!! Not only did the cabin have all that, it was fully stocked with all necessary pots, pans, mixing bowls, appliances, glassware, silverware, cookware and all paper products. I usually bring up my big sauté' pans that I am used to cooking in and big pots for boiling pasta. You do not need to worry about brining any of that to this cabin. This cabin is stocked with the best of equipment. Our dogs really enjoyed the back yard and we really enjoyed being out on the back deck, barbecuing and eating dinner. There is also a deck off the family room that overlooks the lake side and it was so nice to sit out in the morning and have our coffee and visit. The family room furniture is so comfortable and inviting. The Wi-Fi was great as we had iPads and laptops. There was never a problem with the connection. There were beach chairs and beach towels to use so we didn't have to bring our own from home. The location was only about 1 mile from Tahoe City. What a beautiful cabin and the owners were easy to work with. We would rent this cabin again!! Thank you for making this cabin so warm and inviting.

We had 4 families rented this place together. It certainly fits us all and contains everything we needed for a 5 day trip in Tahoe. The owners are very helpful on providing traveling advice and are very responsive on our questions when we were staying there. After a week of us being back, we already got our deposit back.
The place is very close to the lake with a big back yard, where we left a snowman there. It has a Internet connection, which some of us needed for remote work. It even has a stroller, a baby seat and a baby bed if you a baby traveling with you. I think it's great for a group of friends or families.
The only thing you probably have to be paying attention to is there is a short uphill drive when you get into the community. It's normally OK. But if you by happen to travel there on a snowy day like we did, you'd better go there with a AWD vehicle. One of our friends went there with a Prius and it had a very hard time to move even with the snow chains on. It's Lake Tahoe in the forest and mountains. I guess have a vehicle with climbing power is always necessary on a snowing day.

We just got home yesterday and wanted to let you know what wonderful time we had at the Hungry Bear Lodge at LakeTahoe.
The house was even better than we had pictured and very clean. We were all very comfortable with the large spaces and five bedrooms. I totally appreciated the layout of the kitchen and found the pull out drawers, the new stove and the huge kitchen sink to be huge bonuses. In this case it was easy to have more than one cook in this kitchen!
Our older golden retriever appreciated the large back yard - and- it was clean when I left! We mastered the bear alarm despite initial apprehension from the grandparents in our group. No bears were sighted by the way!
The fireplace in the main living room was used almost every day but we did try the other one by the dining table one day too. Thanks for setting up the Christmas themed ornaments around the living room. We took up a small tree and had it nestled in the front window. Having a fire just really added to the Christmas ambiance. Having the three bathrooms meant nobody had too long to wait and we really did like the baskets full of samples. We just used a few.
Because there was hardly any snow, we did not have to contend with the snow plough turning up. Having enough room to park multiple cars was very handy especially with arrivals and departures. Not having snow allowed us to enjoy walking around the neighborhood and with such sunny days we even drove down to Emerald Bay one day and Truckee on Christmas Eve.
The large dining table was the scene of many a tasty meal and a few experiments too! We took up some new cookbook magazines and tried out new recipes on the captured audience. We almost completed a pretty tough new jigsaw, read books, surfed the internet occasionally and even learned how to play Mexican Dominoes. The table was the center of many of these activities. Nanna often took residence in one of the Mission styles recliners and turned off her hearing aid when she wanted. The college aged son returned by train into Reno where we picked him up to enjoy your house for most of the week. An old friend of mine came up and helped make a divine Beef Wellington one evening followed by delicious home made lemon bars. Coffee was brewed each morning and egg nog served many evenings. The large kitchen island served as gathering point, food prep area and temporary grocery shelf.
This was the first time being away for Christmas and we had a fantastic time!
Thank you for your wonderful home!
