About this cabin rental
IMPORTANT NOTE: This cabin, aptly named "Mountain Magic," is NOT related to "Mountain Magic Resort" that is located about 15 minutes away, also in Sugar Grove. This cabin does NOT have access to the resort amenities, but does have its own private petting zoo!
MOUNTAIN MAGIC HIGHLIGHTS:
Expect an immersive, private, family-friendly, mountain experience & your own petting zoo!
Goats, a Pig, Donkeys, Ducks and a Rooster (bring veggies if you want) ... Check!
Authentic log cabin, beaming with country charm & only 15 mins to Boone!
Hot tub, wood-burning fireplace, fire pit ... Check!
Outdoor seating/lounging, sun room, covered AND uncovered decks ... Check!
Level land for playing, seasonal waterfall & land art ... Check!
WiFi, satellite tv, hammocks, gas grill, basic coffee maker ... Check!
Next Family Vacation Cabin Found ... Check!
Easy access into Boone (15 mins), Valle Crucis (10 mins) and over to Banner Elk (20 mins). Skiing and Blowing Rock within 25 minutes!
$75 pet fee (typically 1 dog under 50 pounds), more than one dog or a larger dog, please inquire. Our farm animals prefer to be the largest animals on property!
The entire property is yours. Three levels with the upstairs being a private loft King bedroom. Cozy enough for a couple (half of our guests), but enough space for up to 6 guests. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, enjoy the built-in fire pit and hot tub, enjoy our seasonal waterfall and slowed down the farm life! Enjoy your private yard, the acreage housing our animals (donkeys, goats, pig & some ducks/rooster). The animals live off the land, so you are not responsible for caring for the animals, however, should you choose to feed them, we ask only that they eat fruits and vegetables and they will take all the love you want to throw at them. Go right inside their gate! They are simply the sweetest farm animals, but they are animals. If you have a carrot, they will gladly bump over your toddler to get to that carrot! Act responsibly!
Mountain Magic is located in the sweet, quiet, farming town of Sugar Grove (think Valle Crucis but even more laid back), a safe space and with year-round easy access (although we have to recommend 4x4 in the winter months!)
Please set aside time to just lounge at Mountain Magic, this is where your family’s mountain memories will be made!

I rented this cabin for some family coming to town. It was so much fun for them to see abd feed the animals on the property. The house is so cozy and comfortable. It's a wonderful place to relax and enjoy sitting outside or in . Near Valle Crucis which has a great park. Very nice!

Great location, outstanding outdoor activities and experience for our Team! Thank you for making this adventure to Boone area for college visit the best opportunity. Very personal, direct and communication focused crew -- nothing left off the list for visit. Sir Charles was excellent alarm clock to keep the teenager population on their toes and up on time.

I scoured the internet trying to find something unique for our animal loving family. I came across this gem, and decided to book it as part of a road trip I wanted to make for the family. We stayed 2 nights, but definitely could have stayed more. We came for the animals, and they didn’t disappoint. My daughter spent half her days out there with them. The place was big enough for our family of 6, and we all had plenty of space to ourselves if we wanted it. The property was very clean and as described in photos. It is perfect for a couple looking to get away for the weekend or a family like ours looking to just enjoy the animals and relax.

Excellent, scenic quiet location. We loved the petting zoo, the ambiance of the cabin and our time spent there

Stayed here for 3 nights. Animals = amazing. Best part.
Good: lovely setting, quiet - mostly. Check in process was a-ok. Host VERY communicative.
Bad: oy - multiple. I do have pics/documents to support all of this review (no place to upload)
-Kitchen items need a serious update. Utensils and pans are old + abused. Non-stick pans are scraped + awful. Tried making eggs, they stuck, picked up bits of Teflon + smelled awful. Couldn't even eat them - nor did I want to.
-We are a family of 3 + we take quick showers. Ran out of hot water after 15 mins. There is no dishwasher, we weren't doing laundry, so there is an expectation that there would be enough hot water for 3 quick showers. Unsure how this cabin would support a larger number of people.
-Outlet in the living room was just totally detached from the wall. Safety hazard, scared to plug into. It's an older house so outlets are limited to begin with - much less scared to use one or be unsafe for smaller kids.
-Bedding needs an update - poor quality sheets + very flat pillows. We stayed on the main floor, daughter stayed in the loft. The pillows were so flat on the main floor, I went downstairs to get more....
-Grabbed pillows, which were against rough wood wall, got 3 splinters, was able to remove 2 - but had to go to Boone urgent care and spend $50 (after insurance) to remove 3rd one, lost 3 hours of my weekend.
In summary - wouldn't stay again and would not recommend. Not worth the price.

We absolutely loved our stay at this cabin! We only had a short weekend available to spend with our all our kids home from school, and really wanted to do something different from the norm, and this definitely checked every box! The cabin itself is very quaint, but the selling point is really the beautiful property! If you are tired of staying at every cliche cabin in the mountains, give this place a try! Everyone in my family loved it, thank you for a wonderful stay!

Super comfy cottage near Boone, with all the amenities, and a petting zoo!
We love sitting out in the sunroom in the morning and watching the animals.
Thanks again!

Our family LOVED the animals and the hot tub. It was overall a wonderful experience and the pros more than outweighed some of upgrade opportunities (cookware, utensils, mattresses). We were more than comfortable and had everything we needed!

Delightful cabin. Grandkids loved the animals. So peaceful. Central to everything we did yet perfectly private.

Mountain Magic was absolutely an amazing family vacation with our three small children. They loved the hot tub, feeding the animals, building fires, and running around in the grass! It is close enough to the ski towns to sled and ski if you choose. We went sledding one of the days but our favorite part was staying at the VRBO and building fires! I would recommend this place a million times over!

This was our third time to this cabin. It’s in a great location close to lots of activities and cool towns. The animals are always hit with the entire family. There are 3 levels so everyone can have a skittle space of their own. The downstairs is a favorite for our teen. The hot tub is great during our winter stay.

We had such a wonderful experience here! The children had a blast with the farm animals and the huge yard. The adults loved the views, quiet, and coziness of the cabin. We will absolutely return!

Our family of 5 had the best time. Being with animals and having a yard to play in for the kids while mom and dad sat back and relaxed, was the best vacation. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub and the pictures of the cabin are exactly what you get. The location is perfect and we even went out to eat one night at Over Yonder, it was so good! Love all of this owner’s properties and we will be back for sure!

Our stay was perfect from the moment of booking. We had a question for the property owner (Connie) and she responded asap. Once we arrived it was absolutely magical. The waterfall music surrounds the property with a lovely ambient noise. The animals are so sweet and fun to interact with! The yard is huge and includes loads of amenities! Our family loved this stay and we’re already planning on coming back! I cannot recommend it enough!

We had a lovely stay at Magic Mountain. The animals were a treat, and the home was lovingly decorated and cared for. We especially appreciated all of the outdoor space where we could spread out and relax.

Our kids didn’t want to leave the animals! The property is lovely, beautiful outdoor space and cozy inside. Quick drive into downtown Boone but we spent most of our time enjoying the yard, porch, hot tub and goats.

If you like a rustic cabin feel, you will love this place. Very private setting will all the touches to make you feel back in time.

We rented the house for my son’s 6th birthday and he kept saying his favorite part of the whole trip was feeding the animals! The house was good for our family, we spent most of our time on the sun porch as it was a great space to eat and hang out. One thing to note about the layout is that you have to go through the bedroom on the main floor to get to the basement suite. It wasn’t a big deal for us since the basement has its own exterior entrance. Overall it was a great stay and we will consider renting again if we’re back in the area.

This was a perfect trip for our family- something for everyone. Lots of things to do in the area and in the property itself.

This was our second time staying at this lovely cabin. As we experienced before, it was wonderful and the kids absolutely loved the animals. Even though it rained a good portion of our visit, they were able to still enjoy, visit with, and feed the animals. Sir Walter was daily entertainment coming to visit the front door regularly, even on the rainiest of days. Will definitely book again!

Our Family had an amazing time! From the minute we arrived to the minute we departed it was awesome. The animals and views really made the trip.
The cabin was perfect! Easy drive to Boone and area sites.
Looking forward to staying at the property again and the other properties Connie has available.
Also, a short drive up the road has some of the best views of the mountains and valleys, amazing.

My daughter did not want to leave the goats, donkeys and llamas behind. My son thought the hot tub was the coolest experience. The property is amazing overall and just outside of Boone with some many hiking areas close. We will plan to stay here again.
