About this house rental
Located on the scenic Schoodic Peninsula, Caddo North is a three bedroom, three and a half bath home that is perfectly situated to enjoy Maine’s stunning coastline with friends and family. With 580 feet of rocky, pink-granite shorefront, the property is truly spectacular. With such a large expanse, it is extremely diverse, offering multiple experiences. Twelve-foot tides make for a dynamic and changing coast such that the property takes on entirely different dimensions as the tides change, and yet the shorefront is always usable from the very lowest to the highest of tides. On the far north side of the property is a small sand beach, which allows for easy access to the water at high tide. The property then curves around a broad point, with large rocks that are above the high tide line and are suited for sunbathing or picnicking. This area extends out at low tide, revealing a large expanse of shoreline with tide pools to explore. The middle portion of the property is composed of a small rocky beach that extends as the tide recedes. This area is sheltered by larger rocks to the left and right of it, almost making you feel like you are in Acadia National Park itself. The property extends out into what we call “the point”; a small bluff which sits around 5 - 15 feet above the water, depending on the tide. A short path from the house extends directly to the point and there are Adirondack chairs allowing you to enjoy it at any time of the day; it’s perfect for morning coffee, wildlife and lobster boat watching, and spectacular sunsets. Finally, the property continues for another 200+ feet in a rocky descent, characteristic of the Maine coast. In addition to the shoreline the house sits on 4 acres of land that has wooded areas as well as blueberry and raspberry bushes – perfect for picking when in season!
The house itself, modern yet still cozy, is two stories and the layout is perfect for families or multiple guests. On the main floor you will find an open floor plan containing a living area with a large granite, wood-burning fireplace, both a formal dining area and a breakfast nook, a fully equipped kitchen, and a sunroom--all of which, along with the long deck just outside, offer great views of Frenchman Bay. We are often able to spot seals, porpoises and bald eagles directly from the house. Also on the main floor is the master bedroom (accompanied by a full bath), which has both north and west views of the water as well as a remote controlled gas fireplace for cozy evenings and mornings. The downstairs area contains the guest suite, which has its own full bathroom as well as a sitting area. A second guest bedroom has two twin beds with access to another full bathroom. In between the two rooms is a second common living area equipped with a flat screen TV. All rooms on the lower level, with the exception of the bathrooms, face Frenchman bay. The house also has a utility room with washer and dryer on the lower level, and a half-bath on the main level.
Caddo North sits directly on Frenchman Bay and offers views of Ironbound, Jordan, and Stave Islands, as well as parts of Mount Desert Island (MDI). The house is a ten-minute drive to the entrance of Acadia National Park at the Schoodic Peninsula; the only part of the park that is on the mainland. This portion of the park is less crowded than its larger sibling on MDI and offers ample opportunities for hiking, biking, and enjoying the beautiful rocky coastline (bike rentals are available outside of the park). It's also ten minutes to the center of the quaint village of Winter Harbor, which offers galleries and restaurants as well as a grocery store and opportunities to buy fresh lobster. An hour's drive (or 30-45 minutes by ferry) brings you to Bar Harbor and all the opportunities and activities (shopping, dining, boat tours, exploring larger sectors of Acadia including Cadillac Mountain, and so forth) that this tourist destination has to offer. In addition to Acadia National Park there are also numerous biking, hiking, fishing, canoeing, and swimming opportunities within 30 – 60 minutes of the house. These include the Down East Sunrise trail, Donnell Pond reserve, Schoodic and Black mountains, Lamoine State Park and numerous freshwater lakes and ponds. The location truly allows you to enjoy all that Down East Maine has to offer!

Spectacular Downeast home
with everything you need and beautiful views. If you’re looking for an authentic Downeast location, this is your home. Watch the lobsterman pull traps and seals swim/feed. Then there are the sunsets which are spectacular. We love visiting the quieter areas of Acadia which gives you more of a pristine view of the park.

The property was fantastic. The house was perfect for me, my husband, kids and their spouses. It was clean and fully stocked with everything imaginable. I've never stayed at a rental like this. It was only about 40 minutes from Acadia but we did not mind to go to hustle bustle and then come back to this oasis with the most beautiful back yard and view.

Caddo North exceeded our wildest expectations - it is indeed as wonderful as it looks. The location was absolutely gorgeous, as was the home. The bay was so peaceful and abounded with wildlife (bald eagles, seals, etc.) - we loved sitting in the adirondack chairs for most of the days. Gouldsboro was a great base for our coastal adventures, from Bar Harbor to Lubec, and far removed from tourist crowds. The house itself was spotless, with all amenities we could possibly have needed for relaxing, birdwatching, cooking meals, and catching up on some good books. We fell in love with Maine (and Dunbars grocery) and look forward to returning one day. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous home and lovely piece of Maine.

Wonderful communication with owner. Small issues were dealt with easily. Felt like heaven sitting out on the huge new deck with that great view. Enjoyed our walks on the rural road, and the bonus of all the wild blueberries we picked along the way. Blueberry pancake Sundays! No cable TV, but we don't watch TV much anyway. DVD player worked fine for evening movies. Gorgeous woodwork through the house, all rooms upstairs that included the kitchen, master bedroom, living room had beautiful views over the water. Huge walk in closet in bedroom. Was surprised to see the tiny plastic shower with curtain in the master bathroom. Didn't fit the style of the home. We managed it OK, but larger people may have a difficulty. Could have used a CD/radio player upstairs, but we borrowed the little radio clock for local radio station for music. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

This was the best experience I have ever had regarding a rental. Hilary was truly exceptional. She went above and beyond in making sure we had what we needed. She provided extensive information on restaurants, trails, etc., including information on how to get to these locations, what to expect at these locations, and more. She thought of everything - even left us a container of Lysol wipes to make us feel comfortable in light of COVID! The property was gorgeous. It was the perfect cabin nestled in the woods. We had beautiful views of the harbor. Although we came to explore Acadia, we could've stayed the entire weekend just on the property. We plan to stay again if Hilary will have us!

This was the first week of our two week three generations summer vacation. We enjoyed the house and the setting tremendously. All the rooms were spacious and the furniture comfortable. The deck allowed us to let our dog spend a lot of time outside without our worrying about him. We played golf at Grindstone Golf and would love to play it again. We were able to get take out food from the local restaurants which was excellent. Lastly, the portion of Acadia National Park which is located nearby made for great sight seeing and biking. We would love to come back again..

A wonderful stay
3 adults and a black lab had a wonderful week in Caddo North. The house is gorgeous and perfectly appointed. The setting is as beautiful as it gets. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. There is plenty to do, even with the restrictions of the pandemic this year. I would definitely recommend staying on this peninsula if visiting the Acadia National park are. The Bar Harbor peninsula is so busy. You can get there easily enough by car or ferry, and the Winter Harbor area and Schoodic part of the park are just as nice with less congestion. Hilary was super helpful. Her “guide” tells you everything you need to know. If you are thinking about renting this house, you should do it. Don’t miss out!

We had an incredible time at Caddo North! We found your visitor’s guide to be incredibly helpful and accurate!
We saw bald eagles, porpoises, and black ducks.
We hiked Donnell Pond up the huge mountain where the views were majestic and every bit as awe inspiring as anything in Acadia.
We ate lobster rolls on the wharf in Correa.
The house felt warm and spacious. Each sunset from the deck and chairs was a cant miss event!

The house was absolutely beautiful only to be surpassed by the
setting. There was nothing left out as far as amenities and far surpassed any of the rental properties we have utilized. Would be a
perfect place to simply spend time if you never left the property but that would be somewhat of a shame not to explore the awesome area.
We loved it and hopefully can return in the future.

We just left Caddo North and had the most wonderful holiday. The house is even better than we expected. So light and open with views over the bay. Inside we had everything we needed. I was able to bake and cook for us and didn’t want for any kitchen utensils. The beds are very comfortable and everyone pretty much had their own bathroom/toilet (we are a family of 4).
We enjoyed having our morning coffee out on the rocks at sunrise and sitting on the balcony watching the sunset over the bay. We watched seals, bald eagles, chipmunks, humming birds and a variety of seabirds in the bay. If you didn’t want to leave the house you could have a very chilled holiday right there.
In the surrounding area there is plenty to do - bike hire at Acadia, hiking, boating, lots of lobster eating and whale watching. We actually drove to Campobello and watched humpback whales from the shore!
Hilary was super helpful if we needed anything and sent me lots of information before we got there so we could plan a few activities.
I highly recommend Caddo North!

A relaxing retreat on breathtaking property.
Our thoroughly enjoyable experience with this home matches those of previous reviewers. Our stay here in August with our adult children was wonderful. This clean, comfortable, well stocked home provided a welcoming center for all our activities. The property is heavily wooded and opens up to amazing panoramic views of the rocky coastline. It is located in a rural area, and we rarely saw other people while at the house. We typically spent our days hiking in Acadia, both on Mt. Desert Island and the Schoodic peninsula, and then returned to enjoy fresh lobster while watching the sunset on the deck. Although it is an hour drive to the Mt. Desert Island part of Acadia, the trip is not troublesome. Returning to this home at the end of each day was a welcome respite from the crush of tourists in Bar Harbor. The town of Winter Harbor is close by, and one can find most supplies there. The owner’s guide to attractions, hiking trails, restaurants and amenities was invaluable—better than any travel brochure we could find. Our family would go back to this home without hesitating.

Great home with an amazing setting and view
We highly recommend this home. We enjoyed the house completely and the property with the setting of "the point" looking at the water was incredible. We would hike in Acadia during the day and make sure to be back at the house to enjoy the amazing setting for a few hours until sunset. Hilary was great to work with including sending the house guide before we visited which helped us make plans for our hikes. We had originally planned to rent this home in 2015 and had to cancel our plans. We are so glad we kept this house on our list when we were able to plan our trip to Maine. When we return to Maine we will be sure to see if this home is available first before we look for anything else.

Stunning!
We could not have asked for a better place to stay. The owner gave us so much helpful information before our trip and the house was immaculate. Wonderful views, wildlife, quiet..all you could want to shut off your brain and relax! House is well-stocked with everything you need for your stay. We will be back! Thanks so much for the experience, Hilary!

Unbelievable views and outdoor space. Peaceful, restorative, lovely ...
Caddo North is everything you could ask for in a vacation home. Probably the most amazing sunset of my entire life! We loved the quiet, private, and remote location. Winter Harbor had very good restaurants and we also enjoyed many meals at home. We truly hope to come back again.

Amazing Family Adventure
We had the most amazing stay with our 2 young children at Caddo North in September. The house was spacious, clean, and had spectacular views. But the best part was the property. The kids spent hours outside climbing rocks, exploring the woods and looking for wildlife. We also loved the location. It was close to the Schoodic part of Arcadia Natl park, which we preferred over the main the park because it is less crowded. The surrounding areas are also not as touristy and crowded as the areas around Bar Harbor. One of the highlights was going lobster fishing with Robertson Sea Tours out of Milbridge (about 20 minutes away). But I would say my favorite part of the vacation was sitting together as a family on the chairs in the backyard that overlook the water and watching the sunset every night. #magical

Serenity and beauty in a great location!
We will echo all of the great things previous posters have written. The house sits on a piece of oceanfront property that is spectacular. The owners are wonderful, very accessible if you have any questions at all. For those who love nature, we saw a seal, a harbor porpoise, an osprey, and numerous eider ducks from the house/private beach area. At night we heard the porcupines squeaking in the nearby trees and also heard a loon off in the distance early one morning. You will be surrounded by nature! If you want to see whales, we suggest driving up to the mouth of the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. We spent the day watching Fin back and Minke whales right from the shore of Campobello island--they were close enough that we could hear them breathe when they came up for air. It's only about a 1.5 hour drive or so. Stop by Quoddy Lighthouse on your way up.

Heaven...
Caddo North is perfection. The house is clean, comfortable and serene with incredible views, and the property is breathtaking. We hardly felt the need to leave between the hammocks (we added two more of our own), the "Point," and exploring the coast at low tide. When we did venture out, Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula was a lovely diversion, and with the help of the owners thorough and thoughtful guide to the area, we had no trouble shopping or finding local restaurants to enjoy. Our family of three (we have a teenage daughter) spent a blissful week and can't wait to return next year.

A Beautiful Oasis for All!
A beautiful serene spot! Further removed from tourists, which we preferred...a little bit of a ride from main part of Acadia Park, but close to Schoodic Peninsula--which, truth be told, was one of our favorite spots. Had we stayed in a more touristy location, we might have missed this gem! This home was everything it was advertised to be and more! Owner was easy to communicate with and genuinely cared about our experience and feedback. Home was extremely comfortable and inviting...and immaculate! The property itself was a therapeutic, meditative experience. We are a family of four plus dog...each of us LOVED our daily walks and adventures on the property--inspection of tide pools and just enjoying the beauty that Maine has to offer! I highly recommend this rental! Hope to return next year!

Fantastic! Beautiful home in a beautiful place!
So many qualities to recommend: a beautifully designed, well-maintained, comfortably equipped, and perfectly located vacation home. Caddo North is perched on spectacular granite ledges overhanging the water, with easy access to Maine's rocky coast. It sits on a quiet road in easy proximity to Winter Harbor, Schoodic Point (Acadia National Park), and Downeast Maine's most picturesque natural beauty. The owners, too, are a pleasure to deal with.

great place . . . wonderful location . . . a bit of a drive to main park but incredibly close to schoodic peninsula which just opened new trails and has obviously invested much into road improvements . . had we been closer to main park might not have visited and enjoyed schoodic as much as we did . . . another bonus was being so close to lobster co-op which became our go-to place each morning for the evening lobster feast . . . and the house is a great place with excellent appointments . . . we should be so lucky as to go back again some time . . .

Perfect Down East Vacation Home!!!
We enjoyed 5 days at this property and wished we could have stayed longer. We have visited Maine often, but wanted a Down East experience and we got it! The home is situated along the most beautiful, pink granite coast on a point that sticks out in the bay which offers an incredible panoramic view from inside the house and outside. It's very hard to capture how exquisite the view is in pictures alone. The house is very neat and clean and comfortable, has all modern conveniences, and is very well stocked. The views from the main floor are panoramic with windows on the entire back facing the water. Hilary provided a very informative booklet of hikes, restaurants, and lots of useful information that was super helpful. We called The Activity Shop and Chris delivered kayaks to the house within hours; the shore by the house was perfect for docking them. Kayaking everyday and seeing the wildlife and lobstermen at work was a highlight for our family. We enjoyed being on the property, but we also got to enjoy Acadia and the Schoodic Peninsula. The drive to Acadia is a little long- took us about 50 minutes, but we really didn't mind the drive. If Acadia was the main purpose of the visit with limited time, then this location may have felt a little too far. For us, it was worth the drive to be able to escape the hype and stay in such a secluded and quiet area like Summer Harbor, yet have the accessibility of experiencing Acadia and Bar Harbor. We did spend one fun afternoon hiking the smaller part of Acadia that is only 10 minutes from the house, but it's not as vast and diverse as the main part.
We would recommend this place to ANYONE who wants to experience Down East Maine. There is one particular favorite spot on the property that 2 adirondack chairs have been perfectly placed on a rocky point along the shore that we especially enjoyed, whether for morning coffee, lobster rolls and evening cocktails, not to mention it was the best spot to view our kids (8yo, 10yo, and 12yo) fishing off the rocks (catching mackerel and Pollock), exploring the tide pools for all kinds of sea life (starfish. sea urchins,..), view eagles. porpoises, and loons, view sunsets and constellations, read, and just feel totally relaxed. We plan to visit this home and those chairs again soon!

From the moment we drove down the long and winding driveway and saw this beautiful home emerge through the trees, we knew we were going to love Caddo North. The setting is just breathtaking, the perfect place to enjoy everything that the coast of Maine has to offer. My hubby and I were looking for a unique and private spot to celebrate our anniversary and we couldnt have been happier with this location. This home is modern, well designed, and spacious enough for a large family or even multiple families to stay comfortably. It is also equipped with anything and everything one might possibly need and the views from everyroom in this house continued to take our breath away. For anyone who has ever visited the Maine coast you likely remember the salty wonderful smell of the ocean air; at Caddo North, this aroma mixes with the balsam fir that surrounds the area and creates a scent that is just indescribably delicious! We live here in Maine, but this was our first visit to the Schoodic Peninsula....Wow, had we been missing out on one of the most beautiful areas in the state! Some of our favorite places were: golf at Grindstone Neck, driving the scenic byway, lunch at the Pickled Wrinkle (lobster stew & lobster roll were outstanding!), dinner at the Crocker House (in Hancock) and sitting in the adirondacks on the bluff! We highly recommend this beautiful home and location and hope to return again soon!

8 of us had the pleasure of staying in Caddo North to experience Maine a few weekends ago. By our first morning there, we were already checking to see if the home was available in two weekends to come back again. The house is perfectly situated along the water, with a private rocky coast line, hammocks, and ADK chairs. We had plenty of space for the 8 of us - the rooms were all large and comfortable. We spent most of our time in front of the fireplace, looking out onto the water over the trees (every single room has a great view over the water). Hillary the owner was super responsive and provided a detailed, personal guide to the house and to the surrounding area. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to any of my friends who are looking for a peaceful, scenic stay in Maine.

This is truly the best experience I've ever had with a rental property. The owner was so fantastic about making sure we had everything we needed plus provided us with her own "visitor's guide". She pretty much planned out our entire trip from where to grocery shop, what to see, and where to hike. Plus gave us directions to everything!! The house had everything we needed. They do provide paper products to get you started but I recommend buying/bringing some more if you're staying a whole week. The pictures don't really do this property justice in that it is even more beautiful than you can imagine. We ended up spending a lot more time than we originally thought at the property sitting out at the "point". We saw a bald eagle our first day and then the harbor seals and porpoises on our last. You don't even need to leave the property to get a better view although Acadia National Park is beautiful!
