Casa Carolina is newly remodeled and furnished to provide comfort, beauty and luxury to our guests. It is open and full of light from many sky lights and windows. The decor is a contemporary Guatemalan style with modern comfortable furniture combined with traditional hand made Guatemalan "roperos" and "trasteros." Original paintings and antique Guatemala textiles provide color and accents in the unique decor. Fresh flowers, fruit, coffee and tea are provided when you arrive.

A sofa also makes into an additional bed to accommodate a fourth person comfortably for a short period of time. The spacious Mexican-tiled bathroom has a tub and shower with on-demand hot water. Fluffy towels and 100% cotton linens are provided as well as soap, a shampoo sample and hairdryer.
The living room has a new flat screen 28" Smart TV with both English, German, French and Spanish Cable TV as well as Netflix. There are two work stations - one in the living room and one in the kitchen area. The10 Mega DSL high-speed Wifi allows you to use your computer and electronic devices at these stations, as well as outside on the patios.

Carmelina, the house manager who speaks Spanish, is very friendly, professional and eager to assure your stay is enjoyable. She will greet you upon your arrival, give you the keys and a tour of the property. She is available by phone and happy to serve you whenever you have a question or problem.
Juan, the house caretaker and gardener for over 30 years, has a small house at the back of the property and is available to assist you in any way needed. He works 7am-7pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 7am-2pm and is off Sunday. He also leaves for breakfast about 10 am for one hour and for lunch about 2pm for 1 1/2 hours. Juan can be called by telephone at anytime if there is an emergency at the property and he is not here. Juan. only speaks Spanish, but manages to understand those only speaking English. He is friendly, reliable and very respectful of your privacy and personal property. He is glad to help carry your luggage, makes fires for you in the sauna and fireplace, opens the parking gate for you, and generally assists in any way needed. Juan has a young new rescue dog named "Rico” who lives in a fenced in area at the back of the property. He is friendly and playful and full of energy. Juan likes to let him run in the front yard under his supervision for a little while to give him some exercise if it is not a bother to you and if you have not brought your own dog.
Francisca, our Mayan indigenous Spanish speaking housekeeper from San Antonio, helps Carmelina prepare the house for your visit and cleans the house after your stay. She does not come daily, as our nightly rentals do not include full maid service. For rentals over a week long, Francisca will come to clean for 4 hours once a week which you can arrange with Carmelina.
Children are welcome by permission of the owner. We have a very clean irrigation ditch that runs through the property making a lovely sound of running water. However, even though the water is not deep, it is potentially dangerous for children. Children must be cautioned to not run and play around the water. Young toddlers of 1 to 3 years in age are absolutely not permitted. Children from 4 to 6 years old are allowed by special permission granted by the owner. Older children and infants who do not walk are very welcome! Parents are responsible at all times for the safety of their children both inside the house and on the property. We do not want any accidents!
One or two well-behaved, friendly dogs of non-aggressive breeds are permitted by permission of the owner. Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times and responsible for any damage they may do to the house and property. Dogs are not permitted on the beds or furniture. They also may not be left unattended inside the house. Cats are not allowed.
Guests have access to the entire house and property, except for a locked upstairs storage room and the guardian's house in the back.
Since a substantial discount is given for monthly rentals, we have the following policies for commodities provided. The first 5 gallon bottle of water and the first tank of propane gas is included. When they are finished, please ask the guardian Juan to bring you more and pay him for the cost yourself. Also, a portion of firewood is included for your use. Once this is finished please buy your own firewood, either yourself or with the help of Juan. We also ask that you do not keep the outside lights on all night or over use the electric dryer because of the high cost of electricity. There is a cap of Q350 on the electricity you can use. If you exceed that, Carmelina will give you the bill and you pay her directly for the extra you went over.
Also, monthly rental guests leaving the property for overnight trips are asked to pay the guardian his standard rate (ask owner) for staying the nights they will be gone to take care of the house in their absence.

The house is set in a beautiful garden. It is quiet and very private. There is a constant supply of hot water, great wifi, comfortable bed, NETFLIX, well equipped kitchen and a sweet dog peeking in the window sometimes. We felt 100% comfortable and safe at Casa de Carolina. I've already reserved it for next year's trip to the land of eternal spring!

Casa Carolina is so comfortable and peaceful. It is a short Tuk Tuk ride to market, restaurants, 20Q to the harbour to catch water taxis. Bed was comfortable, laundry a bonus, well stocked kitchen. Beautiful artwork. I did yoga in the garden every morning. We took advantage of the traditional sauna thanks to Juán. There is a very shy dog on the property. Loved being able to watch a Netflix show if we wanted. There are a variety of different spaces to dine or relax in. Wifi worked great. Great communication with Carolyn, Carmen and Juan. Highly recommend this very clean Casa.

Beautiful little house
This place was ideal for me and my dog. It even came with a dog for her to play with! Paloma was so sweet and would greet me in the morning at the kitchen window. I loved cooking in the kitchen. It has everything. We would walk to the beach or mercado in the morning and then return to this little sanctuary. Beautiful gardens, thanks to Juan.
My only concern with the location of this place is the noisy street on the other side of the wall. However, the house and gardens are beautiful.
Thanks Carolyn and Carmelina!

Tropical oasis close to buzzing Panajachel
We were in Panajachel for three very active days. All four of us, two adult and two teens, were happy to retreat in a quiet neighborhood for the evenings. The propriety is surrounded by a beautifully and well maintained tropical garden, with several seating area to relax and contemplate. The house offers all the confort and amenities necessary to prepare our meals and feel at home. The housekeeper and the manager were presents when needed, this made us feel welcomed and safe. Carolyn was always quick to respond to our questions and you can tell that she care about her guests.
Overall, we loved our stay and really enjoy the calm retreat.

Still one of the best places to stay at the lake
Casa Carolyna never fails to impress. House and gardens are well maintained, clean and comfortably furnished. Kitchen has everything you need to cook your meals. Unlike many houses for rent in the area, there is an actual bathtub and there is plentiful hot water. The host, Carolyna, lives in the US but she is responsive and accommodating in case any issue or question comes up. All in all, a good value for the money. Highly recommended!

A beautiful and very relaxing home. Beautiful gardens, quiet, wonderfully kept by delightful grounds keeper. We did use a tuktuk to go in and out of town, a bit far to walk, but that was no problem. You will not be disappointed.

Best place to stay at the lake
Beauty - convenience - security..... this place has it all.....have been visiting Panajachel for 7 years and this is the best place I have found. It's located in a beautiful tranquil walled garden in a quiet enclave away from hustle and bustle of Calle Santander. It's well-furnished, clean, has a great kitchen, plenty of hot water and even a wood-fired sauna. The owner Carolina and the property manager Carmelina are attentive and helpful. Will definitely be staying here again on my next visit. Highly recommended!

Wonderful Garden, beautiful property in Pana
Carolyn, Carmelina and Juan made us feel just at home. It is a well-furnished home with a full kitchen. What we enjoyed the most was sitting outside taking in the beautiful garden full of tropical flowers and birds. Price/Value relationship is excellent and was very pleased with Carolyn's willingness to accommodate our every request. I look forward to return and stay for longer.

Casa Carolina is a Garden of Eden in Panajachel
Casa Carolina was absolutely perfect for our one month holiday in Panajachel. It was the first time my husband & I have been to Guatemala. From the moment we first stepped through the front gate into the gardens, it felt like a tropical paradise. Even more beautiful than the photos reveal. Juan (caretaker) is charming & Carmelina (office manager) & Francisca (housekeeper) both SO delightful. We instantly felt AT HOME. Absolutely secure & safe in every aspect. The distance to town being a 20 minute walk was perfect for our daily outings. The house met all of our needs, there was nothing else we needed or desired. Juan got us more purified water whenever we asked him. When the propane ran out while cooking dinner, Juan made a phone call & literally 5 minutes later, a new propane tank was delivered. Even though Juan doesn't speak English & we don't speak Spanish, we communicated just fine. Carolyn's house is artsy & decorated very similar to our tastes with lovely antiques, fresh flowers, local pottery & Mayan fabrics, plus her own beautiful, colorful art framed on the walls. Super clean!!! Very comfy bed & huge selection of wonderful books - I read at least 10 of them! I like the big spacious bright bathroom too. The garden is an oasis, I kept calling it our Garden of Eden. The tropical trees, palms, bushes & incredible flowers & fruits are stunning. Butterflies & hummingbirds everywhere we looked. The stream musical. We found it so peaceful, we spent most of our time in the gardens: reading, writing, meditating, eating, drinking, & my husband learned to play a guitar that he bought in Pana. The wood-fired sauna was incredible, Juan lit it for us several nights a week, adding eucalyptus branches which were heavenly. We loved the local Mayan culture & really enjoyed the fact that we didn't feel like we stuck out as tourists. We were greeted and smiled at by everyone we passed, my face was perma grin walking to and from town. Walking back to Casa Carolina each day, I would get excited as we neared the house, knowing that an oasis waited for us just on the other side of the wall. I would definitely recommend Casa Carolina to anyone going to Pana. In emailing the owner, Carolyn, prior to our trip I even feel like she became a new friend. Gracias Carolyn for sharing your piece of paradise with us!!!
