About this house rental
E komo mai (welcome!) to this 1940s plantation-era home in Hilo, the cultural center of Hawai’i. Here, you can hang loose and absorb the spirit of aloha while you explore the windward, tropical side of our island, including the Hamakua Coast and Volcano National Park. The house is located just minutes from famous sites, including Rainbow Falls, Pe'epe'e Falls, the Boiling Pots rapids, and Kaumana Cave (an extinct lava tube).
Outside, the expansive second floor lanai offers views of Hilo to the east and Mauna Kea peeking above the jungle treetops to the west. The house rests on a lovely palm-fringed half acre, populated by geckos, mongooses, mynah birds and others. Let the song of tree frogs send you to sleep, and roosters rouse you for another exciting day. Expect visits from the ubiquitous friendly green geckos. Enjoy preparing Hawaiian foods from Hilo's famous outdoor market in the spacious kitchen & outdoor grill, while your keiki (children) play ping-pong downstairs or explore the jungly yard.
Inside, the main living space is on the second floor, inviting gentle trade winds to flow. Four bedrooms, 2 full baths, eat-in kitchen, huge lanai, and living room are upstairs. Upstairs rooms are equipped with ceiling fans, but no A/C. Downstairs are rumpus room, extra half-bath, plus laundry and outdoor shower. Accommodates up to 7 adults (in regular beds) and 3 children (on inflatable mattress and floor futons).
The house is stocked with linens, and beach towels, games, and books about Hawaiian topics (travel, children’s books, novels, and local cookbooks). Downstairs is an enormous rumpus room with ping pong table and a Hawaiian motif stone mosaic floor original to the house. Also downstairs is an additional half bath, laundry facilities, and an outdoor shower. Mahalo for rinsing sandy toes after the beach!
Nightly rates are for up to 6 people ($50 additional charge for each additional person). 5% discount applies to stays of 30+ nights!
This home is located just 3 miles from Hilo’s museums and restaurants and 4-5 miles from Hilo’s airport and best snorkeling, at Richardson’s Beach. Not to be missed is a trip to Mauna Kea’s Visitor Center for night stargazing (free, open until 10pm nightly), just 30 miles away. It is also an easy 25-mile drive for a convenient day trip to Volcano National Park. On another day, take a leisurely drive north on the Hamakua Coast to visit the amazing Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (9 miles), or the historic sugar industry towns of Honomu (13 miles) and Honoka’a (43 miles). Take the Saddle Road across the island’s center 75 miles to reach Kona’s airport and leeward beaches.

Spacious, comfortable, well-stocked home with great energy, ideal for families and groups. Lovely location with outdoor amenities and nearby attractions. Highly recommended for a peaceful and enjoyable stay.

We had a fantastic time staying here. Both the house and the yard are beautiful. My young boys loved playing ping pong and hanging out in the treehouse. They also loved finding fruit, frogs, and geckos in the yard. Wonderful property.

Everything about this home is five star. It is comfortable, beautifully decorated and equipped with anything we could possibly need. The lanai is the perfect place to have your morning coffee while enjoying the views. The downstairs game room/workout area was wonderful. The yard was perfect for the kids to play in. It is enclosed (except for the entrance of the driveway) and the kids are safe to play and run. We are truly thankful for a place we could bring our family, be in Hawaii and really enjoy the things the island has to offer that you miss staying at a hotel. Book this home, I promise you will be thankful you did!!

Another adult coach/chaperone and I stayed here with our youth basketball team. It was very spacious and accommodating to our entire group. The kitchen is large but needs some updated cookware. Downstairs has a ping pong table and is a good place for the kids to hangout. It is a large, older home so there are some minor repairs needed throughout the home but overall it was functional. The property manager was very prompt in responding to our questions and needs. We would definitely consider renting this home in the future.

This was a typical traditional Hilo home. It reminded me of my grandparent's house. It was very clean and had an ample supply of towels and blankets (it can get cold). The property was close to the center of town (5 minutes) but tucked away in the cool, foresty hillside. The grounds were lovely and the tangerines from the tree were juicy and sweet. We used this as a hub for our fishing and golfing activities and ate out most of the time. We bought poke and spent a nice lunch time on the deck. It was a perfect getaway from Honolulu.

We were exploring big island with our family (4 adults and 3 kids) and enjoyed the stay. The lawn, table tennis and patio were very much enjoyed by our kids.

Our family of 7 had a marvelous time at this clean and spacious home! The kitchen is a gem. Well appointed and large. Great for those who like to cook at home. We used the big dining table on the deck. Since that area is covered, there was no concern about rain. The deck has a view of forested hills and a peek at the ocean. The tall red and green palms make the deck all the more like a private paradise. Charming green Madagascar Gold Dust Day geckos that live in the palms were delightful neighbors. The neighborhood is quiet. Driveway accommodated our rental minivan and sedan. There are two pleasant bathrooms upstairs. The three bedrooms with queen beds all share a bath on the hallway. The other bath is attached to the smaller bedroom with the single bed. That worked out fine for us; everyone was able to negotiate their showers and nighttime routines.

House was exactly as advertised. Easy to get into, plenty of space in the house, well located. Property manager was helpful and responsive. If you're going to stay in the Hilo area, this is a great house for a family.

Location was perfect, house was great (especially the downstairs with ping pong- the kids loved it!). We’d stay here again!

It was a hot day in Hilo, the code we were given was not correct to the key box. They added a combination box to the door which was convenient. We were able to get a hold of the manager immediately, and she responded quickly with our other needs. The window's were open and we put every ceiling fan and floor fan on when we checked in. It finally cooled down once the sun went down. The house could use a couple more fans for the very hot summer days. I recommend having ear plug's if your use to sleeping in silence because the coqui frogs in Hawaii are loud at night. The clothes dryer takes forever to dry but other than that we loved the house. It was very well kept and clean! It reminded us of our grandparents house on Punahele St. We came home for our Ohana reunion. We felt right at home! The house is located near beautiful rainbow falls and 10 min. above down town Hilo, good location. Mahalo for sharing your home!

I thought the house was adorable. Bigger than i expected. Super cute treehouse. Tons of games, Towels, linens. Washer was huge which was a plus. I was very apprehensive because there was no ac but the breeze was plenty at night. The frogs annoyed my boyfriend at night but i thought they were peaceful. Would definitely recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The play was exactly as the listing described .. almost better. So much space and great layout for a larger group/family.

Great house, easy location, lots of room for the whole family. I particularly enjoyed the deck. Beds are on the firm side.

This large house is old but very well kept. Our 2 girls (8 & 11) had a fun time wandering around and playing ping pong in the basement. It did get a bit chilly during our stay as it was windy during our stay and the windows don't seal up all that great. I don't think it would be a problem during normal weather conditions.

A house that's about twice as large as advertised, but in reality you'll mostly be using the main level, which has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It;s quite nice, cooled by fans, and tons of space. On a very quiet street about 10 minutes drive from downtown. You will absolutely need a car, as Hilo's restaurants are a couple of miles away and it's very hilly.

House and amenities were fine but the deck furniture was in the driveway broken down and we were hoping to relax on the deck since it had them in the listing pictures. Also the deck and furniture that was there was disgusting and not comfortable so that part was disappointing and apparently not safe since there were signs all over. I would probably not stay there again.

We loved our stay in Hilo. The house is very accommodating and very charming.

Very big house. (But old. Needs renovating.)
However you get all the commodities you need! Close to downtown Hilo. 2 good bathrooms.
I would suggest to renovate/decorate the play room in the basement. (Would create another good living area.) I would also add good curtains in the bedrooms so people can sleep longer (without sunlight)

Nice and quite location; nice house. We were 2 families of ten of adults and teenagers. The announcement is not clear on the true number of places as there are a only 7 places. Two of us slept on a not confortable air matress and 1 on a thin futon in the living room.

We had a few hiccups at the start with the lock box not working and sheets that needed changed BUT heck we were in hawaii. The location was nice. It cooled down in the evenings and being a little higher elevation the air blew through the house nice with the ceiling fans.
We had cute geckos all around while on the laniu and it was a great place to relax to eat and enjoy the sun. The grill does not work so we cooked our fish and chicken in a pan to improvise.
This home I thought was old but cute. Had great space and a lot of potential.
We had a family ping pong tournament that was great for our 13 year old twins and a wonderful dinner fresh from the local hilo market and the house had lots of beautiful serving trays to display our feast.
The kitchen was large enough to have 5 or 6 of us in there doing dishes and making food.
So many pluses that it was easy to over look a few minor set backs.

Even better than it looks.
This is a well maintained and spotless old house (my favorite!). Spacious, comfortable, and interesting. Lanai was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Great stay for a family
Great stay, loved the size of the home, the grounds, and the location. Loved relaxing outside on the deck. Property is in a quiet neighborhood but fairly close to downtown. Only downside is that the beds were harder than I would have liked.

Local charmer. Perfect for a group of friends.
This was my second time at this beautiful traditional Hilo home situated on the edge of a rainforest.
I look forward to returning next year.
Thank you Ashley for being available at all times to answer any questions.

Great Hilo stay for a large family group.
What a great property! We stayed in the bungalow with a group of 4 adults and 6 kids, and it was such a comfortable, wonderful stay! Our kids LOVED the treehouse in the backyard, and the ping-pong, and it was so nice to have access to beach toys and extra beach towels. We found that the beds were firm and comfortable, and we slept well with the sound of rain on the roof, and frogs and birds right outside of the window. Temperature-wise, the fans and open screened windows were enough to keep us cool at night. The kitchen was well-stocked, and it was great to be able to eat right outside on the deck, looking out to the tropical trees and plants.
The house has a quirky, lived-in feel, and is definitely not “new and shiny,” but it was clean, and as families with kids, we appreciated the warm and comfortable environment. We’re so grateful to have been able to stay here during our time in Hilo!

Great Place for kids
We enjoyed our stay in this extremely large house! Plenty or room for a family with large yard, tree house and massive basement. Location was great for our stay in Hilo and enjoyed being out of the sterile condo feel on the other side of the island.

We loved the location. The home was a bit dated and the layout was odd. It worked ok for a short stay though.

Amazing home in a great area!
I stayed here with my husband, his mom, and my parents. This house was perfect for all of us and had the perfect layout. The house is so open, bright and airy and the deck is perfect for lounging. The ping pong table was a plus and the garden is lovely. Highly recommended!

Great location. Okay stay.
The location was perfect for us. Central to our activities that included volcano national park, muana kea, hilo, and ziplining. The house is big and the kitchen was well stocked. Our only big complaint had to do with the beds. They were very hard and really uncomfortable. Also a couple of the blankets had stains. It felt more like a home than a vacation rental which isn't a bad thing for the right guests. For us we wished it had been cleaner with new beds and a digital lock on the main door.

Amazing Place
What a great place. The layout was a bit strange (no ensuite except for on the twin bed room) but such a great house. Open and airy and plenty of space. Would stay again for sure.

spacious house for our family of 7
The house was very bright with lots of space, the deck was great to relax, read and it had a big table for us to have dinner after a day at Volcano NP. It was easy to get to downtown for restaurants, to Rainbow Falls and Kaumana Caves. Ashley was very helpful with any questions we had about the area as well.

Comfortable Unique Hawaiian Home
We loved our short stay here and wished we had spent a bigger portion of our trip in this home. We were somewhat concerned with no AC being available but quickly learned that the cool evening air kept us comfortable (and even cold at times). Kitchen was well stocked with cookware and some plastic plates that were suitable for our kids. The deck overlooking the front of the house was amazing for our mornings to just relax and listen to the wildlife. Downstairs had a closet full of beach equipment like boogie boards, snorkels, and beach towels. Although the home was not brand new, we preferred this to the "high end" condos.
