About this cabin rental
Welcome to the Loon Nest! Relive the nostalgic cabin experience of your youth.
Built by my family in 1965 as a summer fishing cabin, many record-setting muskies were caught and released by my grandpa and dad while staying here. Facing Goose Island (a renowned fishing locale) on the big part of Leech Lake, you have unparalleled views and access.
There are two bedrooms, each containing a new queen mattress. There is also an inflatable queen mattress that would be ideal in the living room area. The living room and kitchen/dining room have an open plan with high timber ceilings.
Bring your boat! There is a dock and shore station for a small boat (18'fiberglass/20' aluminum maximum) to which you have access, complete with a foldable filet station on the front porch. Additional amenities include: canoe, washing machine and dryer, Wifi, DVD player and DVD library, full kitchen and bath, a lakefront fire pit, picture windows, and an outdoor sitting porch. Responsible pet owners with their furry friends are welcome.
Take a step back in time! Our family has infused the cabin with love for 55 years- my grandma created all the rag rugs that still cover the floors and all the decor is vintage and original. If you are looking for a fabulous lakefront getaway on Leech Lake, welcome to the Loon Nest. We are happy to answer any additional questions you may have.
Please note: The swimming ladder will be removed for the season by September 14 and the dock will be removed for the season by October 12.

My husband and our dog stayed at Loon's Nest cabin for a few nights. We had a nice relaxing time and got to visit our old neighborhood. With the 2 huge front picture windows and a nice veranda on the lakeside, we had great views of Leech Lake. Our dog, Buddy loved it there and had a blast chasing after the chipmunks and splashing in the water. The owner Skye was quick to answer any questions we had and a pleasure to deal with. A bonus was the dock with a bench and a boat lift that fit our boat perfectly. There were even spices, coffee, and paper products provided so we didn't have to bring them along. Just wish the weather would have cooperated more. The mosquitos were plenty (it's lake life, after all!) but it didn't keep us from having a nice bonfire the last night we stayed. Thanks, Skye for sharing your cabin with us!

This was our 2nd vacation at this cozy cabin. Our family and fur baby enjoyed the lake and cabin. We're already looking forward to staying again.

The cabin was an excellent rustic style cabin with most modern amenities, except A/C. The owners had all sorts of dry goods, spices 7 utensils available, as well as games & books. Going for a morning swim each day was AWESOME! Having a boat lift was even better than i thought it would be. Watching the sunrise out the windows with a cup of coffee was excellent. I would definitely stay here again!

Very nice cute cabin . As 2 middle aged ladies of average strength we were not able to launch the canoe from the shoreline because of the steep rocky slope.

Cozy cabin, beautiful views.
Overall nice accommodations. Was a very hot week for no A/C and front windows facing lake don't open for lake breeze. No great way to cool down cabin. Rocky shoreline made it hard to enjoy lake without being on the boat and trsvelling to sandy shorelines. Enjoyed evenings having dinner on the patio.

Quiet and Quaint; Needs a Little Love
The Good: If you have a boat (I don't) then this is the place for you: no weeds, a decent lift (in as much as I know these things), and a nice bay. The view is fantastic. The beds are very comfortable. Not too far from amenities (just look at a map--if you don't like the distance...find a place closer to town), and its more remote location makes it quiet. Pretty close to bike trails (my main deciding factor). The neighbors seem friendly and it's nice to just get away. The washer and dryer are great to have (again, being a biker, that was a big consideration: the ability to wash stanky clothes). Skye is very easy & friendly to communicate with, and the rules are clear and straightforward. The well water is actually very good--not a lot of sulfur or iron.
The "Neutral" (not Bad, per se): The place, being older, has that slightly musty smell--but I expected that. It was warmish the week we were there, and humid, so that might have exacerbated the issue. No AC, but again, just read the description--having it, or a dehumidifier, might help with the damp feel. And, of course, being in the woods, lots of spider webs etc. on the outside--however, the trees keep the place cool, so it depends on what one is looking for.
The "Unattractive" (not "Ugly", per se): The main issues were... 1) the tub drain. I am the queen of 2 minute showers, and Dad is the same, but the tub took, like, 20 minutes to completely clean out after both of us took one--the second person in ankle-deep water, basically. Apparently, Skye had not been told this by others, so I assume that will be addressed. 2) the seating; the views from inside are great, and the patio facing the lake is nice--but the chairs, both inside and out, are just not comfortable. One can only do so much with patio furniture, but the inside stuff is ancient, with covers. It just needs to go, and be replaced with something like a sectional couch or similar. Kitsch is great and all, but both Dad and I were more comfortable chilling in our beds. 3) Finally, the rugs; again, sentimentality is fine, and it's nice grandma made them, but old is old--and not as clean as the rest of the hardwood floors, since rag rugs that large are hard to wash.
I was a last-minute book, and so I certainly am not complaining, or expected the Taj Mahal. I am just a realist; and Skye was very easy to work with, which always makes a trip easy and great.

Great vacation property!
Our kids & I had a wonderful relaxing week. It allowed us to disconnect from work and have quality family time. The property and scenery was what you would envision in a northern MN home. We would recommend this location to anyone. Leech lake is a good fishing & playing hole that anybody would appreciate. Thanks to Skye for opening up her home for others to enjoy!

Fantastic Getaway Spot
Really a fantastic little cabin. Remote enough to give you that true North Woods feeling, but close enough to civilization that you can make a run into town for graham crackers when your kid wants more smores at the campfire. Highly recommended!

Quiet lakefront cabin
We enjoyed staying at this quaint cabin. It is rustic with all the modern amenities a person might need. The decor is nostalgic and has the feel of the many memories that have been created in this location. Skye was easy and fair to work with. There was helpful information in the “cabin book” with lots of information on local attractions.
We enjoyed the outside area to watch birds and passing boats.
