About this cottage rental
On the shore of Bass Harbor, close to Acadia National Park and on the outskirts of Bass Harbor Village, the Carriage House offers a private working-waterfront setting for vacation or retreat. Located on the 'quietside' of Mount Desert Island, this cottage has spectacular views of the water - if you watch closely, you may see an eagle on the wing or a seal splashing in the harbor. The tide will change in front of your eyes.
The Carriage House is a romantic get-away for hiking, biking, and kayaking through the Park. Popular activities include birding, nature cruises from Bass Harbor, fresh water swimming at Echo Lake, and brisk salt water swimming at Back Beach in Bernard. It is a half hour from whale watches in Bar Harbor and away from 'the action'. Our Carriage House has commanding views of Bass Harbor and Blue Hill Bay and also offers a second floor 'under the eaves' master bedroom with a balcony, electric fireplace, personal sauna, skylights, queen bed, flat-screen television and shower bath. The first floor has a full bath, basic modern galley kitchen with dishwasher and microwave, and living area with gas fireplace, flat-screen Roku TV, first floor deck overlooking Bass Harbor and one first floor bedroom with two double beds. Free in-cottage high speed wifi. Free parking for one vehicle, including motorcycles.
Sorry, no smoking, pets, drones or outside cooking on the premises. Registered guests only - no visitors, in accordance with our license. Cameras overlooking parking areas, office and grounds.
Rates here are based on three (3) persons, including children and the ‘little ones’, and include bed and bath linen - please bring your own beach and kitchen linen. Please present your MC/Visa and Driver's License at check-in/registration. Additional cleaning and security will be charged to your card as needed.
We will forward our House Rules to you and we ask you to read and agree before we Accept your Reservation Request. We want everyone to know what their stay will be like so that we all can have a quiet, peaceful and enjoyable experience. We live here year-round and can always help.

Great Stay in Bass Harbor
Great location to explore Bass Harbor and surrounding area. Host is attentive and responsive. Clean cottage with plenty of room for our family of four. Thank you!

The property is as advertised. It was clean and well maintained. We enjoyed every minute. There were four of us, but if we had two more that would have been fine. The cottage was about 30 minutes from everything. Connie is great!

Comfortable and quiet location
Connie was very accommodating. We wanted an out of way spot ( on the quiet side of Mt Desert Island.). That’s exactly what we got. A bit of a drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia, but the Island Explorer Shuttle bus stops right in front of the driveway. Very convenient.

Charming small cottage on the shores of Bass Harbor
The Carriage House at Bass Harbor Cottages is everything it was advertised to be. All the amenities worked, the cottage was spotlessly clean and Connie walked me through everything at check-in.
The cottage was spacious for my wife and I, but was not cramped mid-week when my brother and his wife joined us for a couple days. We had enough room even on the one day when drizzly and foggy Maine coastal weather reduced the possibilities for outdoor recreation. It's perhaps a half hour drive from downtown Bar Harbor and 20 minutes from the Acadia National Park Loop Road. Many National Park trailheads and venues are much closer (Bass Harbor Light is < 2 miles away).
The location is quiet and feels secluded, with charming views across the Harbor. At high tide the ocean is perhaps 100' from the cottage. The cabin is screened by shrubbery and trees from other guest accommodations on the grounds, so we felt secluded even when other families were onsite the last couple nights. Altogether an enjoyable experience we look forward to repeating.
