This was a perfect property for a couple and a friend who stayed in the detached cottage seeking quiet in a beautiful setting. Bass Harbor is a picturesque working harbor on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. The photographs well illustrate the property. The owner’s communication was prompt and helpful every step of the way though we did not have to contact him with any problems. The cottage exceeded our expectations, and is a good value for MDI, but a car is necessary to access hiking and grocery shopping.

Beautiful panoramic views of bay. Not for late sleeping. So many windows the natural lighting wakes you up at 5 am .very noisy early mornings with ship horns blowing continuously. Everything is just the opposite at nights. Extremely quiet and peaceful. I think everyone is asleep by 9pm. Beautiful at nights. Very humid next to water and there is no air-conditioning. I'm personally used to cool dry air so if that's a problem for you, beware. It was tough sleeping. Everything else was great. It's Beautiful there but if I lived there permanently, I would have air-conditioning. One thing about the area in general. Very expensive no matter where you go. average cost of a draft beer is 10$, mixed drinks 16$. Ice-cream 7$ for 1 scoop. Stick with the lobsters, they're the cheapest thing lol. And one more thing, parking is at a premium everywhere. 4$ per hour in bar Harbour, time limits everywhere and in acadia park lots are small. Did 80 miles of biking in acadia. The scenery was breathtaking. Cadillac mountain was awesome. Overall it was a great vacation

Clean and cozy with beautiful views. Evenings are quiet and peaceful. Close enough to everything you might want to do, without the noise and hassle of staying in Bar Harbor.
We’re already planning on a return trip.

Our stay in Roger's cottage exceeded all our expectations. His home was spotless and magically filled with sunlight. Finding our way around MDI from Tremont was effortless. As a result, we felt like we were able to make the most of our time there...and explored every nook and cranny.
Being steps away from a delicious meal and wonderful setting at Seafood Ketch Restaurant was right up our alley! In addition, we loved our hikes just a couple of miles down the road and our visit to Bass Harbor LightHouse where we sat on the rocks and watched the lobster boats zoom right by us.
The bedroom balcony was our favorite spot! We had a sunny last day and just watched the busy little harbor all morning from this perfect perch.:) Roger was warm, informative, and the perfect host. We felt very blessed that we found this place for our adventure in ANP. Thank you, Roger, for sharing your home with us!

This was the perfect location to stay at for our first visit to the Acadia area. I couldn’t have asked for better accommodations. The house was even nicer than the pictures, clean, and the view is killer. Additionally Roger is a pleasure to interact with, and very hospitable. Will definitely plan on returning in the future!

Stunning view! Fun to watch the lobster boats go out in the morning. The cottage was filled with light.
Our only negative was the steep stairway, because we are older and have balance issues.

We were trying to escape the Florida heat and found this exquisite little jewel of a cottage to be the perfect solution. The cottage is bathed in sunlight with windows everywhere! The decor is professional and comfortable and incorporates the hues of the nearby sea.The feature wall in the bedroom that is adorned with blue and white plates was charming. And the fully equipped kitchen made it easy for us to have meals at home which was important to us. We enjoyed watching the sunsets from the west facing deck and gazed at the stars from the east facing porch. The cozy walled garden was private and bursting with flowers.
The bed was comfy and we found the perfect sleep number so we were both able to enjoy the right firmness required.
This cottage is located in bass harbor which is an active bustling fishing village. There are lobster boats coming and going and a constant supply of changing scenery. There is a local museum a couple of doors down the road which I found interesting.
If you are looking for a special place to enjoy the rhythm of mt desert island, then this is the place for you. The service provided by the host was 5* with many extras one doesn’t see in a rental and issues were dealt with quickly and efficiently. We were even provided with a mid stay cleaning with sheets and towels changed and bath and kitchen cleaned!

Enjoyed our stay. Road a little busy with ferry traffic. Beautiful views from upstairs balcony. Just a FYI there is a large refrigerator in basement.

The house has incredible views, comfy beds, is very clean & steps away from a local restaurant serving top-notch seafood. The Host was extremely accommodating and called the day after we arrived to discuss what we needed. He even sent a check for sponges that we bought that were missing in the kitchen. That being said, there were a few things that made our stay less than wonderful, esp considering the price:
1. Too many detailed instructions from the host at numerous times in a somewhat condescending tone was stressful and unnecessary.
2. It was v. busy at the end of a private, well-traveled, gravel road where many cars came and went as well as a popular spot for neighbors to relieve their dogs and visit. Normally, this would be fine, but if you expect a quiet location away from the hubbub, this is not really it.
3. If you plan on doing a fair amount of cooking, be aware that the refrigerator is not a full-sized one and no freezer to speak of. Also, the grill is not a gas one so you will have to buy lighter fluid and clean out the charcoal using utensils you bring when done (unless there was a shovel and bucket that we did not see).
4. The studio w. no bathroom had no key to the back door so our teen had to walk out front in his pjs in the night under a bright street light to use the bathroom inside - we felt uncomfortable keeping the back door unlocked. Also, the armoire was moldy smelling and my son's clothes still have a moldy stench even after multiple washings.

Perfect place for a quiet, low key vacation! Beautiful view of Bass Harbor. Easy drive to all parts of Acadia National Park. Some trails and lighthouse are less than 10 minutes drive. Quiet village and beautiful cottage.

Adorable cottage with wonderful view overlooking Bass Harbor. Fully stocked with everything we needed. Bright interior with many windows and skylights. Super clean and what a cute yard and beautiful garden. Comfortable queen bed. Quiet location on the Quiet Side of the island. Walked to dinner several times, bought live lobsters a short distance down the road towards SWH direct from lobsterman's garage at very fair price.

The cottage was perfect for a short getaway just by myself. The bedroom was absolutely beautiful and dreamy with lovely views and a lot of natural light. The bed, comfortable with adjustable firmness. The kitchen had everything I needed to make meals at home and was comfortable to cook in. The location is excellent- close to Bar Harbor and Acadia, and all the drives are scenic. Roger was an excellent host and his communication is clear and helpful. My only critique (which is beyond control of the host) is that the house next door was extremely close and not of the same quality as the cottage making it a bit uncomfortable (especially as a solitary female traveler) to be outside or have window shades up on that side of the house. Other than that, the cottage was delightful.

We had a wonderful stay at this wonderful Cottage. Very clean, well stocked with everything you’ll need, fun view of the harbor and very well decorated. Easy drive into Acadia National Park and to Bar Harbor.

This was an amazing place the stay. The scenery right across from the water was beautiful. The only thing I would say is that the living room furniture is very uncomfortable for hanging out and watching any tv for longer than a 30-minute show. The tv could be updated a little as well.

We decided to go to Harbor cottage in Bass Harbor Maine in February. Not many things for open, but the home itself was absolutely beautiful. Roger, the owner, was extremely accommodating and helpful in every way. We were pleasantly surprised to see how well equipped the cottage was. The upstairs bedroom was like sleeping in a fairytale. Highly recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking to get away and find some peace and relaxation. If we are in the area, we would absolutely love to go back again.

For all of the perks of being on Mt Desert and visiting Acadia, this cottage is the perfect retreat from the business of Bar Harbor. Only 5 minutes from the Southwest Harbor (and restaurants there), the cottage is tranquil and lovely. Truly a great stay and Roger was incredibly welcoming. I want to come back!

Great little place to stay. Roger was great, called and emailed while we were there just to make sure everything was okay. Great location very quite views of the ocean fantastic. Loved watching all the boats come in and out of the harbor. Close to all the places we wanted to visit.

The house was very clean and comfortable. It sits just off of Bass Harbor and has a great view from the downstairs dining area and a great deck that you can sit on and watch the boats
and have a glass of wine.
The location is great. Only about 15 miles from Bar Harbor and Acadia but very quiet. There are restaurants and shops only five minutes away in Southwest Harbor.
Roger, the owner, was great to work with and was very helpful.
If we make it back to Mount Desert Island, we will definitely look to stay here again.

Welcome to the quiet side of the Island. Nestled in Bass Harbor with a lovely view of the bay. Harbor Cottage was a wonderful, peaceful, and lovely place to make our home while we explored Acadia and the Island. While 20-30 from the heart of the park there are several trails just a few minutes away and even closer is the Bass Harbor Head lighthouse. The cottage itself is lovely and up to date. The owner was a delight to work with. If you're thinking of visiting Acadia we encourage you to consider this property.

This is the most wonderful place we have ever stayed: it has a a quiet charm and touch of magic about it. Views of the mountains from a kitchen window, views of the ocean from the breakfast area and from one of the decks off the bedroom, views of the harbor from the back deck enliven the space. Light pours in mornings and afternoons. There are windows everywhere. And Roger was great. We were happy just being in the house!

We immensely enjoyed our stay in Bass Harbor. Dave and I have been visiting Maine for 40 years and our stay at Harbor Cottage has been one of the most enjoyable. Roger gives attention to detail in both his property and his endeavor to make guests comfortable. One of our favorite spots was the balcony overlooking Bass Harbor at sunset. We highly recommend a visit.

Harbor Cottage is bright and clean with great harbor views. The main floor is an open space, allowing us to cook all our meals in the cute kitchen area while watching the harbor and enjoying each other's company.
The upstairs bedroom is beautiful and bright with a small balcony where we viewed sunset. Staircases to upstairs and basement are a bit steep and will be difficult for anyone with knee problems.
The cottage is ideal for two. Additional guests are charged an extra daily fee and sleep in a small converted garage/ artist studio on the property. Although cozy and clean, the studio is located down a staircase of granite rocks that can be challenging to navigate at night. It also does not have a bathroom. I brought a camp potty that worked well, but it is not for everyone.
Roger is a perfect host, responding quickly and professionally to our many questions. Thanks for all your help, Roger!
Guests should also be aware that it is a 20 minute drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. While this was not an issue for us since traffic was very light in early June, it might be more challenging later in the season or at night.
I love Harbor Cottage and hope to visit MDI again very soon!
