Imagine waking to a golden-glowing sun rise over a blue, sparkling horizon, taking in the aroma of brewing coffee, and enjoying it out on your cozy balcony in the invigorating early morning air. Heavenly.
Lubec Bay Cottage sits on a 3-acre oasis of wildflower-filled oceanfront meadows and bloom-filled organic gardens. Bald Eagles glide overhead, while clammers work the low tide out our back door. My cottage is a beautiful 2-bedroom home with two outdoor decks and a 2nd floor balcony off our master bedroom, all with breathtaking views - blue skies against a shimmering blue sea, with tall grasses and wildflowers blowing in the breeze. It is the perfect place to get out of the city and reconnect with nature and can be used as your base for all the adventures that Lubec has to offer. It is only a short drive to downtown Lubec and Campobello Island, Canada, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, and so many hiking and sightseeing opportunities.

It has that real Down East Maine cottage feel that people love! And the sunrises and views seen from our back door are to die for!
Our 17 years of hosting experience really shows. Our recent guest from New York City, John wrote in his review: "Wow! Catherine and her cottage may have spoiled all future vacation stays for us! Her thoughtful communication, warm welcome, and generous amenities will be hard to match. The cottage is so cozy and quiet, with an incredible view, and perfectly located to explore the Lubec area."
The fact that we have so many repeat guests - one couple has returned every summer since we started renting our cottage back in 2008 - gives future guests confidence that their experience with us will meet and probably exceed their expectations.
Also, upon your arrival, you will receive extra special THANK YOU gifts for choosing Lubec Bay Cottage! And the special touches around the cottage will make you feel so at home. You won't find this at other rentals!
Imagine having fabulous bay views from every room and being surrounded by 3 oceanfront acres of bird-friendly organic gardens and lush wildflower meadows in a peaceful, rural setting. Stroll down our Boardwalk to our private shoreside sitting area with fire pit, which is adjacent to the renowned Sand Bar birding marshes. This enchanting cottage is situated in a breathtaking setting with spectacular sunrises and is beautifully furnished with fine antiques and coastal decor; a 1920's picture-perfect Downeast cottage that has kept its original character and charm, while having all the comforts to make you feel at home. So many of the other rental cottages here in Lubec have lost their Maine charm. But even with the many updates we have made our cottage still gives you that Down East Maine feeling!
We're located half-way between County Rd and the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse on the S Lubec Rd. You can find us - "Lubec Bay Cottage" on Bing Maps.

Romantic Getaway:
Lubec Bay Cottage is wonderful for honeymooners or for those celebrating an anniversary, birthday, or searching for a romantic getaway. In the morning, awake to a beautiful sunrise over the bay and sip your morning coffee or tea while relaxing on the balcony. While enjoying your lunch on the deck, watch the bald eagles flying over the bay. In the evenings, enjoy a fire at the shoreside fire pit; listen to the relaxing sounds of a foghorn; enjoy a romantic slow dance to your favorite song under the brilliant night sky. For indoor leisure time, play one of the several popular board games; warm up to the electric fireplace while watching a movie chosen from our DVD library; read from our library of sea-themed and Maine-authored books. All this without leaving the property!
Artist's Dream:
You don't have to be an artist to enjoy Lubec Bay Cottage! But if you would like to bring your paints, brushes, and canvases for painting while on vacation there is a working studio for your use on the property. The situation is intended to complement the comfortable surroundings with an atmosphere of creativity. The Studio is an early 1900's rustic workshop that has been converted into a working studio with plenty of natural light, several work benches, a French easel with daylight lamp, drying rack, space station and cart, pack stool, designer's drafting table with ergonomic adjustable chair, and print rack. The picturesqueness and natural beauty of Lubec is truly inspiring and you will enjoy the luxury of having your own working studio. We only ask that the equipment not be used for children's play.
Birding Paradise:
Lubec Bay Cottage looks out onto the South Lubec Sand Flats, debatably one of the top ten places to bird in Maine. Migratory shorebird abundance and diversity is among the highest along the eastern U.S. coast. Whether you observe from the deck, the balcony or the shoreside observation area, you won't be disappointed. You may also access the Sand Flats from the property. A number of shorebirds have been spotted including the Short-billed Dowitcher, Black-bellied Plover, White-Rumped Sandpiper, Bairds, Least Sandpiper, Dunlin, Semipalmated Plover, and Lesser Yellowlegs. The cottage is a short drive to other Downeast birding locations including Quoddy Head State Park overlooking the Grand Manan Channel, Carrying Place Cove Bog, Boot Head Preserve (notorious for its Spruce Grouse), and Campobello Island. For your use, we keep a copy of an excellent Maine birding resource, 'Maine Birding Trail' in our library.
Writer's Retreat:

From the moment we unlocked the door this sea house had a calm , cozy, relaxed feel. This sea home is one that I will remember.. The charm of this home feels comfy and warm. Not to mention, a beautiful gift. The owner was lovely and very gracious.

This house had everything we could want: a well equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture, and two beautiful decks with spectacular views overlooking the ocean. This was our first visit to this part of Maine, and we loved the quiet and absence of crowds. There was even a separate art studio next to the main house! We look forward to coming back.

I rented with husband and dog. Cottage is easy to find. Located adjacent to sand bar. Cottage has a great, large deck to enjoy the coming and going tides and clam diggers. Loved sitting out each morning. Very quiet area. The peacocks visited each day. The cottage is quaint and lovely. Well equipped with everything. Lots of things to do: Quoddy Light House, Hamilton Cove, Boot Cove, Eastport. Water Street Tavern is a great place to eat. I wish we had found it sooner. Best to make reservations. Catherine is a great host. Dickens the dog enjoyed his stay too. Backyard is great place to walk the dog. It was so nice to wake each morning to a seaview. I would stay again.

Our family of three had a great time at this cottage and it provided a perfect home base to explore! This home had everything we needed from comfortable beds, a well-supplied kitchen, and fantastic views. Wifi worked well. We loved sitting on the main deck and watching the tides. We walked from the house to beach a few times to explore at low tide. There is a propane lobster pot that we used to cook live lobsters outside which we bought at H&D/Shore Thing. We cooked a lot but also ate a nice meal at Inn on the Wharf and Cohills in town. Both excellent. From the cottage you can quickly access beautiful coastal trails, some less than 10 minutes away! Visiting Campobello Island is super easy as well. We loved the area, no large crowds. Lovely decorations and touches throughout the home. The farmers market items were a nice touch as well as the goodies! Thank you for a week of wonderful memories!

This was a great place to stay – close to Quoddy Head State Park, and to the center of Lubec. Beautiful views from the back deck and second floor deck, and from the path behind the house that leads to a sitting area, with chairs.
Creative tasteful decoration of the house. A short walk, or an even shorter bicycle ride, brings you to Bar Road where you can walk right out to the beach.

I want to live here. I love the location, walking out to the fire pit seating area, the house decor, deck, and comfy beds. Proximity to town as well as Quoddy Head hiking trails. Good distance for day trips to Acadia and other lovely Maine spots. Catherine responded quickly to every message I sent. Smooth check in process too. I hope to stay here again and again.

3 friends and I stayed at Catherine's place for the weekend, and we had a wonderful time. The house is well appointed with your needs, like spices, and utensils; as well as personal and local touches like a welcome bag, and handmade soaps. The house is close to beautiful sights such as the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, and Herring Cove in Canada. Many beautiful places to hike, explore, and be laid back.
We lost power, and I messaged Catherine, and she answered right away. The power came on just in time for our evening meal.
I would definitely go back to Catherines place again. It is beautiful to see the landscape from most windows in the house.
Thank you Catherine!

A beautiful and ideal setting for birdwatchers and nature lovers. We had a wonderful time, loved the location for going to many birding hotspots, and totally enjoyed sitting out on the incredible deck overlooking the bay. The house is well stocked with any and everything you might need to enjoy your stay.

My husband and I stayed here for a relaxing getaway!
Exactly what we needed. The cottage is beautiful, cozy with stunning ocean views and sunrises!
Our pups loved running through backyard and grass! A quick ride down the road brought us to the beach where we explored for hours and found some sea glass.

Lubec Bay Cottage was the perfect find! The cottage was so well put together, had everything you could possibly need (in the kitchen, bathrooms, etc) and was just perfect for my husband, son and dog to get away together! The cottage was spotless, inside and out! Catherine is a wonderful host! We were greeted with a nice care package and fresh veggies from a farmers market upon arrival. She was always available by phone/text if needed for anything. We can’t wait to come back to this beautiful cottage and very quaint little fishing village.

We have vacationed in the area for ten years and always admired this cottage as we drove by. We are so glad we were able to stay week there soaking up it's natural beauty and artistic charms. With one of the finest views of the Lubec Channel and a most thoughtful and cordial host, we highly recommend the Lubec Bay Cottage!

We spent 2 weeks at the cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The views are phenomenal. Especially loved the wildflowers. So much nature and pollination. Sunrise from the Master Bedroom is divine. The cottage is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated and feels very cozy. Beds are comfy. Towels plush. Kitchen is well stocked.
The small touches like organic produce and a gift bag filled with Maine goodies upon arrival were so thoughtful. Loved the boots and raincoats for walking to beach at low tide. Much appreciated.
We had all sorts of weather and sitting on deck on the swing with coffee in mornings in the light rain was such a delight. (We brought a basket of blankets as it was cold!) Loved the walk through door /screen to help keep out any bugs.
The outside lobster pot /burner was a huge hit for us! All the lobster eating tools were well stocked. We ate quite a bit of lobster and steamers from H D & sons!
Catherine is very responsive and helpful with anything we needed.
We would stay again if we decide to head back up to Lubec!! Thank you.

I was familiar with the cottage from the outside having vacationed in Lubec, Maine for 14 summers. I had stayed in several places, but was not prepared for the truly lovely cottage look. Catherine has impeccable taste and it reflected in her choices everywhere. The house is a blend of comfortable cottage chic with lovely antiques interspersed. Also, every amenity was thought of, from a well stocked kitchen and laundry facilities to even extra touches such as lavender spray for the bed linens. I appreciated the emphasis on eco-friendly products as well. And don't get me started on the two lovely decks, the amazing views and beautiful gardens.

Gorgeous home - Catherine has thought of every detail from the magnificent garden (the peonies and lupine were magnificent), to the very comfortable beds and soft cotton sheets, to the lovely gift bag filled with Maine treats. She was on hand via phone or text if needed, and all was clean, well organized and well appointed. The field in front, filled with buttercups while we were there, stretches to the deck and after days out exploring sitting on the deck and enjoying the view was a wonderful way to end the day. Just fantastic.

We had an amazing time in Lubec! The house had everything we needed and the owner goes above and beyond to make your stay feel elevated from the thoughtful welcome gift to the comfy bedding! The views were amazing and we spent the majority of the time on the decks enjoying the view! You are very close to Quoddy Lighthouse, the town of Lubec, along with other hiking spots. This place was perfect to unplug and just enjoy a slower pace. Also very dog friendly!

Lubec Bay Cottage was everything we wanted for our week in Lubec area. The cottage was wonderful - quiet and beautiful looking out to the bay. Convenient location for hiking and birding at Cobscook Shores preserves and many other preserves, plus Cutler Coast, Quoddy Head State Park, Cobscook Bay SP and Campobello Isl. Also convenient to several rivers and Cobscook Bay for outstanding kayaking. Next time we’ll plan on two weeks! Thanks Catherine!

Absolutely adorable cottage fully stocked with anything you could possibly need! The bedding feels like a luxury hotel - so comfy!! The decor inside will bring your mind back to simpler times and give you glance into the lives of those who lived in the home and area over the years. The area is phenomenal! So incredibly beautiful and peaceful; this is the perfect place to get away from it all and treat your soul!

Beautiful cottage, gorgeous view of the bay, and gardens. Lubec is small but so picturesque. There are lots hiking trails…the owner, Catherine, had maps and info about the area at the cottage. Eastport is worth the ride too!! In June the lupine are in bloom…in August, there are the best blueberries found anywhere!

Lubec Bay Cottage felt like home, in the best possible way. Everything we wanted or needed was there, inside and out. My friend and I were in Maine to photograph puffins. We had two days of expeditions.
We shopped at the local grocery store for breakfast and lunch supplies and had excellent lobster rolls two nights in a row at Fisherman's Wharf. We quickly discovered that the local coffee shop/bakery, Narrow Escape, did not open early enough for our puffin excursion days, but we enjoyed their delicious baked goods and cappuccinos on our arrival and departure days. Catherine's wonderful gift of coffee beans and other goodies was a perfect and useful surprise.
The afternoon we arrived, Nashville and Yellow Warblers were perched in the pink blossoms of apple tree by the driveway. A song sparrow sang from the fields. We took a walk to the ocean, discovering the huge back deck with its couch-swing and big table, a firepit and many Adirondack chairs along the way.
Our rooms had the most comfortable beds with lots of pillow options and cozy comforters. My room had a deck from which I photographed gorgeous sunrises and sunsets each day. The days are so long in Maine!
We cooked our breakfasts and packed our lunches each morning and had everything we needed to do this. including a cooler bag. In the afternoons we explored Quoddy Head State Park and other areas to photograph birds, including right on the property.
Catherine was so nice and helpful!

Wow! Catherine and her cottage may have spoiled all future vacation stays for us! Her thoughtful communication, warm welcome, and generous amenities will be hard to match. The cottage is so cozy and quiet, with an incredible view, and perfectly located to explore the Lubec area. Don’t miss Campobello Isand / Roosevelt Int’l Park (Tea with Eleanor), sunset at Mulholland Lighthouse, West Quoddy Lighthouse and its Coastal Trail, touring the bay via Downeast Charters, and lobster stew at Inn on the Wharf in Lubec. Eastport is a great day trip too. Hard to leave this beautiful place, but we take lots of great memories (and photos) with us back to NYC. Thank you Catherine!

This was my best friend and my second stay at the cottage and it was just as wonderful as the first time. Beautiful sunrises every day and with no cable, a perfect place to unwind. We were lucky enough to arrive during peak leaf change. As Floridians, we found it amazing to see. The cottage is quiet and very clean, if you are an artist, there is a great studio for your use. We also lucked out that Canada opened their border up completely our first day in Lubec making it easy to drive over to Campobello. If you are looking to relax and unwind on your vacation, you won’t go wrong choosing Lubec Cottage

Our 7 days at Lubec Cottage were amazing! We slept with the blinds open to be awakened at 4:45 am to the blush of the sunrise! The property is awash in beautiful hues of pink, blue and yellow. Hydrangeas everywhere! After full days of exploring and photographing the beautiful landscapes from Cutler to Canada, we relaxed on the comfy sofa and watched movies. The cottage has everything you could possibly need. Super comfy bed, delightful shower and all the comforts of home. Upon arriving, we found fresh, local veggies in the fridge and a lovely gift bag of local favorites including coffee, maple syrup, wild blueberry honey and ambrosial handmade soap. Lubec Cottage is the perfect location to explore the Bold Coast. Thank you Catherine for providing such a marvelous sanctuary. It was truly a trip of a lifetime!

Lubec Bay Cottage is lovely. The cottage is charming and decorated in a beautiful mix of the sea and vintage. It is well taken care of and clean. The kitchen has everything you need, the beds are comfortable, and there is a great chair in the living room to get comfy for nighttime reading and foggy afternoons. The deck provides a variety of seating and fantastic views. As a gardener watching the garden evolve over the years has been fun- this is my 4th visit. I planted little lime hydrangeas in my garden to remind me of the peace my stays at the cottage have given me. You could not ask for a better host- than Catherine. She is welcoming and helpful.
Mornings are for the quiet and tranquility of the sunrise and watching the bay, the fields, and the birds come to life. Afternoons are for the rhythm of sitting in the swing reading, and evenings are for looking at the breathtaking night sky.
I love Lubec for the combination of nature and the small town. One of my favorite things was to spend an afternoon sitting on a bench in town by the water watching the activities of the dock-the birds, the seals, and the lobster boats coming back from the sea.
The people in Lubec are friendly, kind, and generous, and Lubec is rich in history. The Lubec Historical Society is worth the visit, as is the lighthouse, the antique store, the galleries, Quoddy gift shop, Narrow Escape for coffee, and, of course, Monica’s for chocolate. There are many hiking trails for all levels of hikers and walkers.
Every year I return home with restored energy and the peace I need to take on the next great thing. I hope your visit to Lubec Bay Cottage does the same for you.

Everything you read in all the other reviews is true. The cottage is welcoming and comfortable and truly felt like home. Catherine has ensured that everything you need is provided. The welcome gift bag and fresh produce and flowers were an extra special touch. We loved our stay here! Even our dogs loved it- they spent so much time running up and down the path to the fire pit and hanging out on the deck with us. One of our favorite things to do was to sit on the swing and take in the incredibly beautiful views. It’s a wonderful place to soothe both mind and soul. Thank you so much for sharing your special place with us!

Beautifully restored Maine house that offers unbelievable views of the bay. Our family loved our stay at Lubec Bay Cottage. It’s clear that the owners have paid attention to every detail in the restoration & refurbishing of this 1920’s cottage. I particularly loved the framed letter hung in the master bedroom that was found in the walls during renovations. There were also fresh-cut flowers throughout the house & some fresh local produce in the fridge when we arrived.
Despite there being a couple of neighbors nearby I still felt isolated & private. There is such a vast expanse of meadows & marshes & water directly out the back door that it’s easy to feel like you have everything to yourself.
The beds were comfortable & the bathrooms & kitchen were clean (& I’m picky). The kitchen was well stocked with cookery & spices.
My family had a wonderful time walking the beach every morning & enjoying the views of the sunsets every night. Highly recommend!

Everything that the owner advertised on VRBO was correct. My wife and I were looking to decompress from a hectic schedule and we were not disappointed. The house is immaculate and you want for nothing. Peace and tranquillity is what we were looking for and we found it. We watched the sunrise and sunsets and walked to the ocean.

Home away from home
The cottage was even better than the pictures. The views from the deck off the Master bedroom were amazing. The lower deck was extremely comfortable and spacious. The town of Lubec had a couple resturants I would recommend. Water Steet Tavern and Cohills Irish Taven. Both were very good. We really enjoyed the laid back feeling in Lubec and the comfortable accommodations. I definately would stay in the cottage again

Perfect house in a perfect location
The house is cozy and comfortable, with everything you could need during your stay. Excellent location for visiting the wonderful Quoddy Head State Park as well as Lubec “downtown”, also conveniently located for day trips to other nearby areas. Not a ton of restaurants and night life in Lubec, but that’s more my speed anyway. :) Lots of nature, hiking, and relaxation, a great vacation!

Lovely Stay
Beautiful and cozy home situated right next to the water with ocean views. If you are looking to recharge, this is the place to do it. We had a restful stay and there are plenty of outdoor activities in the surrounding area to keep you occupied. The Canada border is also only 10 minutes away. Catherine was also a tremendous host and was quick to reply if any questions were to arise. Would stay here again.
