Nice place, beautiful weather, wonderful country. Coffee every morning on the front porch listening to the Ausable River flow by was perfect!

Overall we were very happy with our stay. You can hear the river from the house and is a short walk to it. The house was cozy and perfect for the four of us. Awesome dark skies at night. Everyone in town was very nice. The food at the Ice jam inn and restaurant was the best we tried in the area.

We loved staying at this comfy home in Keene/Upper Jay. The house was very clean, well equipped, and we felt like we were in a homey cabin in the woods. We were there for hiking and it was well situated to trails both in Lake Placid and Wilmington, and everywhere in between! I loved sitting out on the front porch in the morning with my coffee and in the evening with a glass of wine and listening to the Ausable go by. When we walked across the road to the picnic area and saw the river and the beach, all we could think was "we have got to bring our grandchildren here!!" Trish is excellent about communications and sharing info on the surrounding area! We can't wait to come back!!

This is our 8th stay at the river house, and we hope it’s a tradition that continues for many more years. Trish and Mark have put so much love into the property, the continued improvements mix the charm of the original house with modern convenience. The house is clean and filled with everything you may need on your vacation including clean comfortable bedding, all kitchen needs, a gas grill and board games.
We enjoyed spending the days at the river and the evenings around the game table.

What a beautiful home! It was more spacious than we expected and filled with ADK character and charm. Everyone in our family loved hanging out by the Ausable, exploring the shore and tubing. A very special place!

We really enjoyed your property, beautiful view, house, river. We wish we were able to bring a 9th person. Maybe in your listing, when it says pet friendly, mention that there's a fee per pet and right away mention that the dogs cannot get in the furniture or bedding. We brought our pet because he is a support dog, but the conditions you posted are difficult to follow. We got the email saying that a couple days prior to it. There was no way we could leave him in a kennel then, and for the money that we were charged to bring him, we could've gotten a nice place for him to stay. It will just give future guest an idea of how pet friendly your place is. How can you relax and change the way you and your pet live? it was stressful. But overall, you are so very blessed to have such a beautiful place. We are even thinking on getting a property around there. It was a wonderful experience, except for the fact that we don't consider it "pet friendly". Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful place. We enjoyed reading past guest's comments, the notebook didn't have any pages left to write on.
May God continue blessing you with the opportunity of having such a peaceful dream.

There is so much right about this house: the cabiny comfort, the quiet, the river, the fire pit, the grill and the location near so many good hikes. We loved it and I hope we can come back. It got hot but the fans provided made it comfortable. The Wi-Fi is spotty and slow but that only encouraged more reading.

The perfect place for our family gathering. Owners are very responsive and are great with communication. Our 4th summer here and we love it as much as the first. Thanks Trish and Mark, we are already looking forward to next year

We had a perfect trip! We had 3 adults, 2 teens, 2 12yos, and 2 dogs. The river was my favorite part!!! It’s absolutely beautiful, secluded, and perfect. The location was great overall too. Our activities away from the house included climbing a high peak (Phelps, from the Adirondack loj trailhead), cliff jumping at flume falls (an annual stop we make), a new cliff jumping spot- split rock falls, a day in lake placid, basketball & biking at Wilmington town park, and mountain biking right across the street!

This property in addition to a beautiful AuSable river side beach is close to so many hikes and swimming holes. The drive to Lake Placid, either of the two ways (we like both), is beautiful. The local grocery, produce shops, and restaurants (including the Monday Tuesday grill walking distance) are a nice break from cooking (kitchen, gas grill, or campfire). House is very comfortable with recently upgraded restrooms, washer/dryer, and outdoor shower.

My wife, two sons (10 and 7), and our dog had a wonderful stay at this riverfront cabin in the Adirondacks. The home was exactly as described and depicted, yet somehow even bigger than we expected! The location is perfect for nearby hiking and fishing. Short drives to Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain, plus many other high peaks. Every drive offered breathtaking views.
Beds were very comfortable, kitchen was well equipped, and having a washer and dryer was a huge plus. This was a perfect launching off point for any Adirondack adventures. Thanks to Trish and Mark for helping my family and I make some amazing mountain memories.

Wonderful cabin at a beautiful location. Cabin was nicer and bigger than expected, large bedrooms, and all rooms recently updated and decorated. We understand this was the Owner's first winter rental and we recommend this home anytime of year. Owner's were very helpful and communication was great.

The river house is beautiful, and in a great location to everywhere we wanted to go. The fire ring above the river made for some wonderful, peaceful evenings. They dogs loved the close access to the river as well. We will be back next time we visit the Adirondacks!

We had a wonderful stay at River House Magic in July! The house is prefect. Very clean and spacious with beautiful decor. The area is lovely and very private. Our dog Ryder especially loved the beach by the river. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone. Only issue we had was that the internet was spotty at times which made it difficult to use. Thank you, Trish and Mark, for letting us use your house.

We had a fantastic stay at the river house. Easy check in, the house was clean and comfortable. Very private and peaceful setting, we only saw one other person all week. The river was amazing, my son caught a few brown trout. Morning coffee on the front porch and evening camp fires made for an ideal trip. Close to Keene and Lake Placid as well as a number of hiking trails. Lots of great family time. We hope to be back soon.

The updates to the upstairs are beautiful, and makes it more useful to everyone staying upstairs. The outdoor shower addition to get the sand off before going inside is fantastic, we used it daily. These were the new features. Our family had yet another fabulous vacation at the River House. Mark and Trish you truly have a gem of a place and we thank you again for sharing it with us.

The home is beautiful. The location is terrific. We are an outdoorsy family, and the quick walk to the river across from the house and a short drive to Lake Placid and to numerous 46ers in the Adirondacks exceeded our expectations. The hosts were quick with excellent feedback and sent thoughtful emails before our arrival with suggestions for reservations in case we were eating out and a few helpful things to know about their home. HIGHLY recommend.

We loved our stay, the house was very clean and cozy with everything we needed to have a great hiking experience. We hiked many of the very close and beautiful trails and was impressed by how friendly everyone we met was and the town was cute and quaint. Lake Placid is pretty close and has the best grocery store (Hannifords) that I have ever been in! The owners of the property were very responsive to our every need and gave us great tips on trails and places to go. Overall we had a wonderful time!

We loved the property and esp the fire pit and chairs etc down by the river. The house was immaculate and very comfortable. We didn’t want for anything. We didn’t light the wood stove because our 1 year old grandson was there overnight…but the house was heated so we didn’t need to, in any event. The house is on the East branch of the Au Sable River, and we found out after arriving that the fly fishing is pretty non-existent in that location but was perfect for casting practice!
The only things we would add would be that the linens for the bedroom on the first floor could be upgraded to newer crisp sheets that fit the bed better. Also, we had a few tiny, furry visitors in the kitchen overnight, but that can be remedied easily.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Upper Jay and would highly recommend staying on Ark Road! The foliage and views during the drives to various places were amazing and breathtaking!

It was a lovely cabin and in a nice, private location near the river. If it was warmer, it would have been a great place to swim. However, nothing went smoothly. After our first day of hiking, we went to put our smelly, wet hiking clothes in the washer and it didn’t work. Tried to call the caretaker listed on the VRBO email and she hadn’t been a caretaker there for years.
The next morning, the water in all faucets and toilet was brown with alot of sediment. The owner told us the well must be low and to buy bottled water. I’m glad there were only two of us and not more than that. The water did clear somewhat but was discolored for the rest of our stay. And while it didn’t ruin our vacation, buying gallons of water to use to cook, wash dishes, brush our teeth and fill our hiking packs for multiple days was a definite nuisance. I was also a little surprised that the owners never checked back with us over the next couple days to see how things were going after hearing about the water issue, not that they could have done anything I guess. But overall, didn’t make for a positive experience.

This is our third year in a row staying at the River House over Labor Day Weekend. We love the location of the house and the peace, quiet and privacy present here. The house is very comfortable and well-equipped. We did have a problem with the washing machine and tried contacting the property manager, however were unsuccessful. We did not pursue other avenues as it was not too big a deal for us. We hope to return again next year!

Our family enjoyed this property immensely! We stayed for just about a week in the month of July. The location is perfect! The gorgeous Ausable River is right across the road. My husband enjoyed fly fishing in the river. My kids (age 15, 13 and 8) loved swimming and cooling off in the water. I highly suggest bringing inflatable tubes, as my three children had a blast tubing down the river. My puppy also loved running down the beach! There is a long stretch of sandy beach for the adults to sit and relax by the river. No one was ever bored! My kids went through a ton of towels down by the water, way more than the house had available, so consider packing some extras.
The house is adorable (the online pictures don’t do it justice), is well maintained and is on a very quiet road. We didn’t see one car drive by the house the entire time we were there. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to make meals at home. The outdoor gas grill appeared to be brand new. The beds were very comfortable and the furnishings were very clean and comfortable. The wifi isn’t that reliable, but in my opinion, as a mother of three children who all love their screens, that’s a blessing!
The owners always responded to questions very quickly and were very friendly and helpful.
The area has a lot of cute restaurants and small markets but some are only open on the weekends, however. We didn’t find any large grocery stores in the area, so consider bringing food necessities with you.
It was a wonderful vacation! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Our second Summer at the River House and it was just as wonderful as our first year. We've already booked a Fall weekend. The location is perfect for high peaks activities and the river is so relaxing.

Amazing week at the River House
We have stayed at the River house 5 times and each time it is truly amazing! Mark and Trish have done some wonderful upgrades since our last stay, including a new gas grill, new living room furniture that seats 6+ people and updated decor!
We highly recommended the River house for those who want a peaceful week away!

Nature Retreat
We stayed at the River House mid June. The house had more than enough room for our group of 6 (plus our lab dog). Each bedroom was quite roomy. The kitchen table accommodated our 6 easily ,but likely could seat 8.
My favorite space was the front porch .Sitting in the Adirondack chairs, listening to river, and drinking my morning coffee- the best!
Centrally located near the AMR, high peaks, White Face, Ausable Chasm, Keene, Keene Valley, and Lake Placid-we truly just ran out of time- so much to do an explore. We intend to return to bag a few more peaks.
My chocolate lab gives 2 thumbs up to being on the Ausable River. He had some serious swimming time.
I had to contact Trish a couple of times early in the booking process (with a few questions) and she was very quick to respond. Check in went without a hitch.
I would definitely stay at the River House again and I would recommend to my friends.

Review
My husband, 14 year son and my parents stayed here for about a week. The house was quite clean. Kitchen was good- but the area got a little tight when more than one person was in it. My mom struggled with the chairs- may not be comfortable for the older/shorter folks. Limited seating in the living room area. The river is across a road- which is rarely traveled- we may have seen 4 cars go up/down it the entire week.
The location is centrally located to many trails and Lake Placid attractions.

We have been visiting the River House for seventeen years. We’ve made joyful memories at the house watching our boys grow up. It’s a wonderful place for a family gathering during a busy time of life.

Awsome Vacation
The owners were quick to respond to all my questions. The location with private beach was exactly what we needed. There was everything that we needed in the camp from dishes to games to amazon on TV. We will definitely be using this location again in the future. If you go check out the painted rock garden by fireplace. We so added to it while there.

Perfect stay
We had such a wonderful stay at this lovely home. The house feels remote but provides easy access to the near limitless hiking available in the high peaks region. The east branch of the Ausable river is just across a nearly vacant dirt road where a private beach and picnic area provides a great spot to swim and hang out. The yard surrounding the house is big and private. An additional picnic table and charcoal grill in back was good for a couple cookouts during our stay. The house itself has its quirks, but worked out well for our rather large group of two couples, four little kids, and a dog. Easily five out of five.

Big House with a Great Location
We loved the River House! The property had lots of space and the location on the river made my husband and son very happy about being able to fish whenever they wanted to. It was warm when we stayed (July), but the multiple fans onsite made everyone comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!

Relaxing Getaway
We really enjoyed our stay at the River House. The house was comfortable and clean, yet appropriately rustic. The private use of the river was lovely. It provided endless activities for kids, adults, and dogs alike. Trish and Mark thank you so much for sharing your home with us, we can't wait to come back!

Family trip
We had a wonderful time at this property. This house was perfect for our kids who loved swimming in the river. It was also close and convenient to Lake Placid and Whiteface. Since the campfire area and river are across the street- it would have been nice to be able to have a fire closer to the house on nights the kids went to bed very early. There is not much room on couch or seating in the living room for rainy days, and no propane grill which was not the most convenient . Overall though we had a great experience and we were very happy with our stay. Thank you!
