Our original AMI home is much easier to navigate than new-build 3-story homes on Anna Maria Island because our first floor is on the ground level and the second floor is one easy set of stairs. Other rebuilt homes on the island usually require climbing multiple flights of stairs up or taking small elevators.
If you rent just the Gulf View Retreat, then there are a few 'common' areas for the two floors including the pool, yard, fire-pit, toys and 3rd story 'Crow's Nest' deck. Contact us for a Reunion Retreat where you can rent both floors including the entire house for special occasions.
In less than 2 minutes, you will be spending your day on the beach at Sunset Park, or venture out a bit further and hang out fishing in one of the many great spots nearby. Sightings along the Gulf of Mexico beach and inter-coastal waterway include Manatees, Rays, Dolphins, many kinds of fish, a wide variety of birds, and other amazing creatures. Some people even get married at the Sunset Park beach area and stay in our home with family! Common sites along the beach areas include Sea Turtle nests and bird nesting sanctuaries during special times of the year.
If you're in the mood to tour around the rest of the island, catch the free trolley around the corner and it will take you to any of the beaches, restaurants, shops or grocery stores along Gulf Drive anywhere on Anna Maria Island. Take the trolley to the old historic Bridge Street area of Bradenton Beach to enjoy the Key West style restaurants and shops. If you enjoy painting or photography, the sunsets are among the best in the world.
Enjoy live music nightly and dinner at Manatee Public. If you time it right (usually 7pm), you can enjoy sea creature (fish, eel, and shark) feeding and Ice Cream at Holy Cow Ice Cream.
A lovely sunrise can be enjoyed along the Coquina Baywalk. Bean Point and Coquina Beach are great beaches to visit along with Sunset Park next to our home.
Just across the Cortez bridge on the south side of the island, is the old school Florida fishing village of Cortez, where restaurants have excellent seafood and some have live music. Swordfish Grill is our favorite on the dock.
Our kids love taking the free trolley around the corner up to Anna Maria Pier and looking for fish in the water (especially in the morning to early afternoon when you can see well through the clear water), talking to the fisherman, and eating at the restaurant or getting ice cream at Two Scoops. The Blueberry Pie ice cream is my favorite... Trolley stops by the home every 20 minutes from about 6 am to 10 pm.
We have 3 favorites for breakfasts: 1) Rod & Reel Pier, 2) Ginny's & Jane E's, and 3) The Donut Experiment (fun for the kids but not completely filling).
There is a small reef of rocks about 150 feet northwest from the Sunset Park Beach directly west of our home. I like to swim out to it and then dive down 8-10 feet to see colorful fish like the striped Sheepshead, etc.
The Herb Dolan Park, an easy five block walk on 26th Street North and Avenue A, is an open park area with a terrific view of Sarasota Bay, Anna Maria Sound and Tampa Bay. The Herb Dolan Park features picnic areas, basketball court, playing field, swing set, play structure and a Kayak launch. If you're in the mood to tour around the rest of the island, catch the free trolley out the back door and it will take you to any of the beaches, restaurants, shops or grocery stores along Gulf Drive anywhere on Anna Maria Island. Take the trolley one stop down (or stroll along the beach the one mile) to the old historic Bridge Street area of Bradenton Beach to enjoy the Key West style restaurants and shops. If you enjoy painting or photography, the sunsets are among the best in the world.
After enjoying the beach or park, return home to use one of the two outdoor showers next to the beach toys or the pool to wash the beach sand off and jump in the pool waiting for you. Kick your feet in the water of the heated pool with a special sun shelf for toddlers or adults to sit on with Adirondack-style chairs. The pool, 5 feet deep at its deepest, includes two more sitting shelves on the that are around 18 inches deep. One of those extra sitting shelves on the far end has a soaker spout to massage sore backs. Enjoy the traditional landscaping of Florida with various palm trees of different sizes that increase your privacy including Areca Palms, Queen Palms, Fishtail Palms, and Palmetto Palms. A large Frangipani/Plumeria tree creates beautiful large flower blossom clusters usually in May or June, which smell ideal and are the basis for Hawaiian leis. Relax in the soft green grass of our Zoysia lawn next to the pool tossing a ball or playing a game of Corn Hole or Golf Toss. Head up to the Crow's Nest deck and watch the dolphins swim by in the Gulf of Mexico next to the beach.
Florida's best-kept secret, Anna Maria Island (AMI), features beautiful white sugar sand beaches, older Florida charm, award-winning restaurants, and shopping all within easy walking distance or a ride aboard the free "Anna Maria Island Trolley". One of the few places in the world where the sunset is regularly applauded, this tiny slice of paradise stretches for 7 miles into the Gulf. Just across the Cortez bridge on the south side of the island, is the old school Florida fishing village of Cortez, where restaurants have excellent seafood and some have live music.

Great location, beds comfortable large dining table
Family room/ couch seating area small

Great location. Quick walk to the beach. Not far to Bridge Street. The property was clean and provided what we needed to enjoy our stay. The sunsets were beautiful from the crow's nest and the pool was clean and warm. A couple of suggestions: It would be nice to have a half dozen plastic cups for use by the pool and perhaps a few new beach towels.
I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and look forward to staying at this property again.
4.9
Property was in a good location with great access to the beach and a lovely view. Walkable to Bridge Street. We would return!
4.9
This is an excellent property that is 1 block from 2 beach accesses. The Sky Deck was wonderful for Gulf sunsets and the heated pool was clean and inviting for a December day. Toys galore....bikes, SUP, kayaks, beach chairs, etc.
We had the 2nd floor with 3 bedrooms....
I would highly recommend this property and will return to it in the future.

The 3rd floor porch was amazing. The sun 🌞 set was epic .we spent hours just talking and laughing under the stars , it was a memorable experience thank you

Four adults over 65 had a very enjoyable stay. Proximity to the beach is a big plus for this property. Sunsets viewed from the crow’s nest were especially nice, and the fire pit table was a great feature for evening conversations.
4.9
Great location. Beach in front of us, stores, sports bars to the north and south just take the free trolley. The top deck fabulous view (sunsets beautiful). The pool is great especially for after beach relaxing. The house very well kept, all the beds are comfortable. The only downfall there is no cold water in the guest bathroom sink (bring bottle of water). The beach chairs and wagons understandable have rust (salt) damage.
4.9
The beach is right in front of you with great views right from the house. Publix, pharmacies and Bridge St. is super close which was very convenient. Tons of beach supplies that made it so much more enjoyable for our family. The house was kept very clean and the master bed was actually very comfortable with different density options for your pillow. We love the outdoor shower and hose to rinse off in after the hot day at the beach. If you’re planning on spending your days at the beach and wanting fun toys while you’re there, this is a great house to choose.
4.9
We enjoyed our stay at the Gulfview Retreat! The walk to the beach was short and easy! The pool was great to have for the kids. There was all kinds of beach accessories including beach chairs, umbrellas, toys, paddle boards, and kayaks. All we had to bring was clothes and food!
4.9
This was the perfect place for my family to spend a week. My grandchildren loved the pool.

We enjoyed our stay; the location is fantastic! The kids loved the short walk to the beach and the pool is perfect. Great spot for a family trip.

Very nice place to stay. Nice view, nice housing, nice pool. The only thing needing help was the gas grill. It needs replaced terribly. Otherwise, outstanding location and wonderful option for a family vacation.
4.9
Family friendly. The place was great! Very short walk to the beach and when it was too windy at the beach we had a pool. Well appointed nice open area for the family to be together and to eat
together. Would definitely recommend

Wonderful time, great location and property, pool was fantastic, and home was close to the beach. Rex was quick and helpful with my question at check in. Can’t wait to return. Thanks for a terrific stay.
4.9
very nice, perfect for a family. private back yard is a big perk
4.9
Flew in and every part of check in was incredibly easy. Rex was great with communication and even checked in to make sure we were all OK as a tropical storm had just hit. House was a stones throw from a great wide open beach. Pool and property were well maintained and perfect. Guests downstairs were a lot of fun and we couldn’t hear each other at all throughout trip, had a very private feel as part of a duplex. Great island, friendly people, great food. Try the Beach House, and the Ugly Grouper. We are already planning our next trip and will be hoping to utilize one of Rex and Michele’s properties as everything was as advertised and their communication was quick and informative. Thank you guys! From Dave and Erica

Communication was great! We were updated during and after hurricane Ian as to the status of the property. Owners were quick to respond to our questions before and during our stay. This property worked great for our two families. Top deck is phenomenal for sunsets and view of the gulf. Grill was not cleaned and grease trap full and patio table chairs were very worn, torn, rusted on legs, uneven and uncomfortable; we did not use either.
Make sure to bring toilet paper and Kleenex.
Excellent stay and great family memories were created!
4.9
Excellent walking distance from immediate beach access. Unit was clean upon arrival. Make sure you read all of the listing details to understand this unit is in a 2nd floor/stairs are included and which toiletry supplies are included with the booking.
Overall it was a great stay, we would return and we would recommend to fellow travelers.

2nd property with same property owners
This is our 2nd year booking with Rex. Last year it was their location on the bay. We had an amazing stay. Private pool that’s shared with the first floor was clean, heated and perfect. Location is just one block away from the beach access. House is clean and in great condition. We enjoyed cooking a few nights for dinner and many breakfasts. We enjoyed using the paddle board and bicycles! So much to do that you don’t need to leave the island!! We will be back again!
4.9
The property is nice! Except for the parking area has an exposed water backflow that needs to be covered, marked, or hidden because we backed into it accidentally and cut off the water to the house. Property owner has sent us a bill for repairs. I looked around at other properties and these back flows are all hidden. Bad situation and WILL NOT return to Gulf view retreat or any other of Rex Geislers properties!

Perfect!!
This was a perfect place to stay. The house is clean and beautifully decorated. It had everything we needed. It’s a short walk to the beach and area restaurants. Rex was very quick in responding to all questions and further needs. I let him know that the beach cart and beach chairs weren’t in working order and he had new ones shipped to the door. Very pleasant to deal with. We definitely recommend staying at this property.

We had the best time on AMI. Upon entering the rental, we noticed how clean the place was. (We've done many vacation rentals and this cleanliness would rate as the top!) The rental was exactly as advertised, fully stocked with everything you might need and communication eith the propert manager was superb. We hope to return next year.

This was our first time on AMI, for three days in mid-December, and enjoyed it very much. Plan to return. We were fortunate that the weather was abnormally warm for Dec., in the high 70’s low 80’s. We did not swim in the gulf but a few did. We walked along the beach barefoot and didn’t take too long for your feet to get used to the temperature of the water. Besides walking around, we kayaked and took a boat ride to see dolphins.
Regarding the Gulf View property, it was freshly cleaned (still smelled upon arrival) and comfortable. A full size refrigerator, plenty of countertop, toaster, toaster oven, microwave, and glass top stove. Kitchen was nicely organized and equipped. Some folks left some condiments and spices so you may want to check before grocery shopping.
Water pressure in the showers was good. Nice to have counter space in the master bath. We had enough towels provided. Plenty of seating outdoors.
We enjoyed that it was a very short walk to the beach and the trolley stop and overall the neighborhood was nice and quiet.
I would say that this is really a perfect property for families with young children in particular. The pool is a small size, which is fine for lounging and cooling off, not for laps. The one side is shallow for toddlers to stand in and adults to sit in. We didn’t use the pool because the water was too cold in Dec. But we kept ourselves occupied with other activities. We think it is not a bad idea to vacation on AMI during the off season. At the prime location where we kayaked (on Longboat Key) the rental company said that they can get 400 tourists out there.
Note that the listing does not include bikes but earlier reviews mention them. VRBO doesn’t let the owner add comments or remove obsolete reviews. The owner said that with the sea salt, it was too hard to maintain the bikes and the bike shops are able to clean and maintain them every day. He arranged for us to have bikes which was very nice.
It is hard to be out by 10:00 am if you want to eat breakfast there. (We don’t like getting up early on vacation.). Guests are asked to start towels in the washer and remove sheets and pillowcases for the cleaner (in addition to the normal cleaning before you leave.)
Owner responds quickly to emails and text messages.

Excellent stay
