About this house rental
Return to Class in La Crosse, Wisconsin
The Wilson Schoolhouse is located in a rural setting on 12 acres of woods, fields, and gardens only 8 minutes from historic downtown La Crosse. Rental includes the entire schoolhouse and will comfortably accommodate 2 to 8 adults during their stay. The old schoolhouse desks are replaced by modern, comfortable furniture. Where students once studied, you can now relax in comfort surrounded by Wisconsin hills, just a mile from the beautiful upper Mississippi River. The Wilson school was built in 1917 and functioned as a one-room school until 1965. It was recently restored and elegantly furnished to retain the "open" atmosphere of the original schoolhouse. It still maintains much of its original character and charm with the original slate blackboard and school desks. The schoolhouse is listed on the City of La Crosse, the State of Wisconsin, and National Register of Historic Buildings.
There is no charge for 1 child under the age of 12; please exclude this child when you request to book, but let us know that they will accompany you and what arrangements for beds that you will need.
There may be additional charges for larger gatherings or parties; please contact us regarding this.

Great Place to stay. Location close enough to LaCross for all the events we were in town for. A little hard to find due to the trees in front of the building, especially in the dark.

Owners have carefully preserved LaCrosse and American school house history by thoughtfully providing an opportunity to experience history up close. Our kids enjoyed the desks and chalkboard and imagining how school used to be in one room. I enjoyed the preserved history of the school house throughout the inn.
Warm and inviting owners who were easy to communicate with. All amenities our family could want (kids ages 2-16). Very clean considering it’s a historic building. Comfortable accommodations and looking forward to staying again. So many hiking trails and beautiful views not far from the inn!

We came to La Crosse for a car event and were looking for a relaxing private space. This home was ideal. Checking in and out could not have been easier, and the property was as clean as an operating room. The historical touches made it a cut above places we normally stay at. The owners have provided many historical references that really put this one room schoolhouse in perspective. It was truly one of the best stays we have had. Cannot reccomend it enough.

The school house was immaculate. All of our needs were met and there were even a few extras - such as granola bars, juice, coffee and tea. The beds were comfortable and private. The rooms were spacious and there were 2 bathrooms which was very nice. TV was available as well as reading materials and brochures for the area. It was so nice that when they remodeled they kept the school house feel. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly but not at all interfering. If we are lucky enough to go back and stay there again, we will make it for a much longer stay.

My family, my parents, my sister and my niece enjoyed our stay at the Wilson Schoolhouse while exploring LaCrosse. Much fun was had! The Schoolhouse was spacious and easily accommodated all of us. The wide open kitchen, dining and living room space was the best. The woodwork, trim, ceiling and large windows showcased the craftsmanship of the original build. We recommend this location for families looking for lodging in the LaCrosse area. Cheers!

We stayed at the Wilson Schoolhouse Inn during our stay in La Crosse for the State Dart tournament. Location was about 12 minutes from the La Crosse Center and was very convenient location. The schoolhouse itself was really cool and interesting. Well stocked with everything we needed and the owners were great about communication.
I would stay here again without hesitation, really enjoyed it.

We had an amazing stay at the Wilson Schoolhouse. The property itself was well maintained, full of amenities (coffee, snacks, tea, etc.) and so comfortable for a group of girlfriends. The location is accessible and close to town yet far enough away to allow for total relaxation. Lisbet, the owner, was lovely and thoughtful and just a delight! We all would highly recommend it for a getaway.

Overall very good place to stay. Bigger than I expected and more than enough room for the 3 of us. Right off of the highway but trust me, the traffic is never heard inside the house. Feels secluded but can be right inside LaCrosse in five minutes.

Our stay was very pleasant. The hosts were very helpful and made a special effort to meet us in person. The property is beautiful. Thank you so much for everything you did to make our stay in lacrosse a pleasant one. Everyone who is showed pictures of the Wilson school house was as charmed by it as we were.

The schoolhouse is very spacious, a large stocked kitchen and plenty of beds! Clean and well kepted up.
It's located close to town...nice to be there for my niece wedding reception. Another added bonus for us was our mom was a teacher in a smaller school such as this was and her maiden name was Wilson! Btought back many memories 🙂

The school house was perfect for our weekend visit. The large open common room was beautiful. We had fun looking through the historic pictures. We only stayed a weekend but would love to come back for a longer trip. Close enough to town but out in a more rural spot. The downstairs has two good sized bedrooms, and a sleeper sofa in the downstairs common room that worked for one of our teens. We would definitely come back.

We were in town for a graduation so didn't spend a lot of time at the house, but loved the history layout of the Inn. The owners live close by and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay.

We had our family Christmas here and stayed 4 nights. The schoolhouse is absolutely beautiful and full of history. It is very interesting and they have photos and documentation from when it was a true one-room schoolhouse. The whole place is much larger than we anticipated. The basement bedrooms were very comfortable. The kitchen is very nicely stocked. The owners were very kind and helpful. We will be back for sure!

Hosted a family dinner, perfect for this. The history and pictures are fascinating. Three of us in the family attended one room country schools, this brought back many memories.

Property was easy to find, close to grocery and other shopping. Nice, large open LR, kitchen and dining. Plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing, but also worked great for playing cards and impromptu dance parties! Large wooded yard to enjoy the sunshine and a bon fire. The hosts were very easy to work with, very nice and accommodating. We all had a great time and enjoyed staying in this lovely piece of LaCrosse history.

Siblings weekend
We had an awesome weekend! The schoolhouse was very well supplied. We do this every fall and this is the best equipped kitchen we have experienced, the owners even supplied coffee! We enjoyed so much we have already booked for next year.

A weekend with family
We came to the area to see some friends and family. The Wilson Schoolhouse was not only a comfortable and inviting stay, but had so many unique traits that it really amplified the entire weekend. Extremely clean and has everything we needed to cook a few meals. If we are in the area again, we will not hesitate to stay here.
