CARPINTERIA...maybe it's not really the land that time forgot, but it doesn't take much time here to feel like you've eased back into a vacation from your childhood. Days at the beach are long and lazy, and balmy nights are livened up by walks up and down the main drag, stopping for ice cream, to window shop, or to just watch others stroll by. There's a wide variety of local restaurants, but not a major chain in sight (other than fast food, of course), and if you feel like staying out late, there's usually live music playing nearby somewhere.
We have a comfortable, well stocked house with cute beachy decor. It is the perfect place for a great relaxing vacation. New- this year --- a flat screen TV! We hope you enjoy the outdoors but if your favorite sporting event or something else is on-- the viewing is much improved. Dorrance Depot R&R has the flavor of the past with the accommodations that you want for your family today. Located within two blocks of just about everything, it's a short walk to the beach and wildlife sanctuary in one direction, and Linden Avenue's shops and restaurants in the other. Although it's rumored to have been the old railroad station, today's Dorrance Depot R&R is all about Rest and Relaxation. Unit A, a spacious single story beach cottage, has three bedrooms and two full baths, with a large and open living, dining, and kitchen area. The front porch and small grassy yard, enclosed by a picket fence, connect the inside to the outside, and add to the entertainment possibilities. There's plenty of secure storage space for your portable vacation gear (chairs, bikes, boogie boards, etc.), and the house is fully equipped with kitchen, bath, and linen supplies.
Be our guest!...You'll be counting down the days until you can come back again.

Carp was great. Unfortunately, our stay was not ideal. I'll list out the pros and cons.
Pros:
1. Property is in an awesome location with maybe 3-5 minute walk to the beach, and walkable distance to all the key Carp restaurants.
2. Outdoor shower definitely helps after beach.
Cons:
1. General communication. When I booked the house, the confirmation gives the address, but it wasn't until when I checked in that I was provided that it's a unit A. I found that there is 2 other units in the back of the house at the end of the driveway, which made parking really difficult. When we arrived, there was another tenant that parked in one of our spots, and I almost hit the fence multiple times trying to pull in and out.
Also, the unit comes with 2 parking spots, so I pulled in sideways to make it easier to get out. The owner visited the property the day before our last day and asked that I pull in more and over although I was within the spaces. I was unsure the necessity of that ask.
2. Cleanliness. Property owner asked if any other issues, and I mentioned that the sheets felt a bit sticky, that there was wet things in the dryer and what appeared like dried snot on one of the fleeces. The owner apologized about the clothes in the dryer, and she mentioned that they only cleaned the throws once in a while. I felt that dried snot on the bed should have received a bit more than that response. There were other things, but I'll leave at that.
3. Neighbors are very close in proximity.

My family and I enjoyed our week in this cute beach house. There was plenty of space and great access to town or the beach. We would definitely stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the walkability of everything Carpinteria has to offer from this house. It's a quick walk to the beach, the trails along the beach bluffs, the salt marsh area, and Linden Avenue restaurants and shops. The home is as pictured with parking available behind the house on the driveway. There's one bedroom and the primary bedroom/bath down a hallway off the kitchen. The other bedroom and bathroom are off the living room.We would gladly stay again!

The house is within walking distance to the beach and downtown. The charcoal grill was unusable ( the grates were very rusted and eroded and there was no basin to catch ashes. We spoke to the host and she directed us to borrow a grill from a neighbor who is one of her renters. That grill was not much better but we were able to BBQ. There were dirty dishes in every cupboard and the house could use a deep cleaning. The guest bathroom has mold and is very outdated. The house had ample room for our group and we did have a great time in Carpinteria. If the items listed above were corrected, I would rate it higher.

This is our 5th trip to Carp and first staying at this property. We chose it because it's dog friendly, has three bedrooms, and near the beach. Due to Covid, only three adults made the trip and no dog, so there was plenty of room for us. Like many beach cottages, it's a bit 'salty and sandy' and it was exactly what we expected. It exceeded our expectations and we hope to return next year. The owner, Kathy, was very responsive.

My brother and I gathered here with our families for a week of fun together in our hometown. The place was just the right size for comfortable & relaxing fun & dinner parties with more friends. The layout is ideal with enough space to cook & hang out together while also allowing privacy for all. The location is perfect & the porch is perfect to enjoy sunny morning coffee! We’ll be back!

Great location great property
Very large rental house. Kathy & Phil (property owners) were fantastic. Super helpful, even let us park our bikes in their garage. House looked like it had been recently touched up with new paint and more than met our needs. Carpet was worn and maybe that’s why it looked dirty.
Loved the fenced in front yard for our dog. Highly recommend.

Perfect location
Kathy was great, stayed in touch through email (which was perfect for us). Home was clean, well stocked, really comfortable and in a very nice location, walking distance to the beach. Will definitely look for this rental every time we visit Carpinteria

Great for large families and friends to gather!
This property came in very handy for my son’s graduation! We had quite number of family and friends coming from out of town and it was a great place to gather. Our condo is around the corner, but is tiny and cannot handle a large number of people. The house is equipped with what you need for a comfortable stay. My cousin even made a seafood boil for dinner one night and used all the pots, pans and serving dishes that came with the house!
Location is perfect! Kathy gives you a list of what the house is NOT equipped with and so you know you need to bring extra toilet paper and paper towels, beach towels and beach chairs, zip locks and laundry pods for the washer and dryer.
Kathy is quick to respond and communication is great.
The house could use some TLC. Maybe a fresh coat of paint on the cupboards and bathrooms. The carpet is clean, however it is showing wear and tear…ripping it out and putting down a different floor would make it look sleek and easier to clean (just my opinion) . The glass on the bathrooms could use a little more windex to get rid of soap scum.
But, would I rent it again? Yes. These larger rentals are hard to find in Carpinteria!! We put it to good use! Many thanks!

Pleasant home in a great location
Fabulous location. Quaint home. We enjoyed our stay. There were some dirty dishes though and cobwebs and dust in the higher to reach areas. The sink in the master bath was draining too slow to really use and there was a bowl to catch water under the sink. We never did figure out how to work the TV but there were plenty of other things to do.

Great location, but house was a bit run down
The house was very cute and very walkable to the beach, restaurants, etc. The house had all supplies a guest needs and the setup is very user friendly for a family. The drawbacks are that the house itself is pretty rundown. With exception of the bathrooms and kitchen, the flooring is old and musty carpet. The dishes were not clean and had food residue on them in the cabinets and silverware drawer. The dryer had about a half cup of sand in the bottom when we checked in and the lint trap had not been cleaned. While we never felt unsafe and the neighborhood is very cute, the houses next door were a bit sketchy. Our stay was expensive, otherwise these inconveniences may not have stood out quite so much. We are grateful to have found a place in the SB area.

The location of this house can’t be beat! The parking, location, yard, space- everything was amazing. The only complaint that I have, would be the cleaning. It looks like a lot of the cleaning is left up to the tenants- which I didn’t mind much, but there are a lot of things I think should have been considered like vacuuming under furniture. The couches, beds, etc didn’t look like they’d been vacuumed under in quite some time. There was also remnants of previous tenants (leftover clothing under the bed), as well as food splatter on the side of the fridge, and there was still some caked on food in some of the pans we used. The experience and comfort of this house was stellar- I just think it could be cleaner. We had a great time, and I would definitely stay again!

Carpenteria Home
We found the house to be very comfortable for our party of 4 adults. Furnishings were adequate and proximity to restaurants and beach was perfect. The owner responded to the problem with WIFI right away, although it was unable to be resolved during our stay. I would suggest an additional fan for the third bedroom and more attention to detail in cleaning the bathrooms and stove. Definitely a nice place to stay.

Carpenteria Bungalow
We are a family of 4 and were quite comfortable in the Carpenteria house that has an open floor plan. It's just a short easy walk from the beach. We walked everywhere! Great restaurants, shops and relaxed reading on the front porch. Neighbors were helpful with places to visit nearby such as Ojai. Wonderful spot for all ages and will return!

Cute cottage, great location
We stayed 1 week in this cottage with our 2 toddlers. We loved Carpinteria, and the location of this cottage which is perfect. 2 blocks from the beach, 2 to 3 blocks from all the shops and restaurants. Note: the cottage is also close to the train tracks, but the noise didn't bother us. The train only comes by once in a while and is quite fun to see and hear, not overwhelming. It never woke us up, either at night or during nap time.
The owner Kathy communicates very well and I was able to get a response from her within an hour or two whenever I had a question or needed anything.
The cottage itself is very cute and well equipped (pots and pans, coffee maker, blow dryer, washer/dryer, even a few beach toys which our kids enjoyed...). We felt like a few things could be improved on: the towels were quite old, as were the pans which were pretty badly scratched. The cleaning wasn't perfect when we arrived: there was still coffee in the coffee machine, some sand in the living room, the kitchen and shelves were a little sticky... And it would be nicer to have duvets with washable covers on the beds (not bed spreads or blankets which are harder to keep clean) - especially since some tenants come with their dogs.
We enjoyed the TV and the DVD's that were available. Thank you!

Wonderful Bungalow in Carpinteria
My family of 6 plus two toddlers and my yellow labrador retriever stayed at this wonderful cottage for 9 days. The small fenced yard was well manicured and safe. The house is charming and in great condition. The owner, Kathy is great to work with. The beach, park and downtown are a 5 min. walk. We had terrific walks along the bluffs every day. The house is stocked with everything you need. I couldn't have been happier with this cottage! We had the best time!

BEST BEACH COTTAGE IN CARP
The owners are very responsive and pleasant and the location is absolutely fantastic as well as the space. Easy 5 minute walk to everything means no need to drive during the entire vacation. The cottage is well kept and provisioned and has plenty of space as well as great parking.
This is THE PLACE TO STAY IN CARPINTERIA !

Sweet Home Away Froom Home
Our stay at this charming beach cottage was a complete delight. It was all I could hope for and more. Carpinteria has a wonderful small town feel --friendly people,a variety of interesting shops, restaurants, etc.
Each day we walked to the beach, to town, thru the beach State Park , and even found a seal rookery.
We enjoyed nearby towns Summerland, Montecito, and Santa Barbara..
The accomodations at the house were great---all that one needed to be at home was provided. It was clean and comfortable for us and for our pets as well.
I would gladly return to this home sweet home often.

Great Location
What a great house, with everything you will need to feel at home. They always say location, location, location and two short blocks to the water, or two short blocks to downtown. Had a great week with my family.
Rate this property! Would recommend to a friend.

Family Fun!
We had a GREAT time here with our two adult children and significant others! Location was super for heading to the beach, to Linden Street for coffee or treats, and to Santa Barbara for shopping or nightlife. Very comfy accommodations and the owner, Kathy, was super to deal with. This was our second time staying here and we will definitely stay again!

Fabulous UCSB Graduation Accomodation
Dear Kathy;
Your apartment was excellent, very well decorated, clean and cozy. My 2 daughters, husband and I had a great time. We enjoyed beautiful walks on the lovely beach and the many restaurants and shops 2 blocks down the street. The closeness to SB was also very good allowing us to partake in our son's graduation and still be away from the commotion. You were always available on the phone with great suggestions and tips. I highly reccomend this apartment to anyone wishing for a beautiful and restoring vacation.

Great Family Vacation Home!
We rented Unit A for a week in late May. The location was perfect - a short walk to the beach to downtown for shopping / dining with a variety to choose from in such a quaint beach town. We enjoyed the barbecue and full kitchen for several meals at home. The house was spacious, relaxing and clean for an older home. The bedrooms were very private with the splt wing floor plan. The indoor washer / dryer was convenient with kids and not having to take dirty clothes home. We will be back and have recommended the properties to our family and friends!

A very Merry Christmas
This is a comfortable and well kept beach cottage. We spent a lovely Christmas week with our family of adult children and 1 baby granddaughter. Carpinteria is charming and we loved having sunshine and 60+ degree weather in December. The beach is beautiful and just a short walk from the home. The owners were great to work with. We loved our week of "home" here and look forward to returning!

Great beachside getaway!
This cottage is lovely, reasonable, and so close to the beach and downtown. It's very comfortable and the owners were a pleasure to deal with! We had several adults and kids and it accommodated everyone--a great place to stay with friends for a quiet weekend away.

I highly recommend this beach cottage. We stayed in Unit A with 3 BR and 2 BA. It was perfect for our group of 3 sisters and our mom (plus one husband and child for one night) - spacious, well-stocked, clean. It's a short walk to the beach where we enjoyed lovely sunsets. The people in Carpinteria were all friendly and helpful. It's a short walk to shops, ice cream, good restaurants, and a short drive to Santa Barbara, one hour to Danish village Solvang. We enjoyed the duck boat in Santa Barbara (land and harbor tour) and lovely shopping area with .25 trolley rides. We were there the first weekend in October for the Avocado Festival - yum and lots of good free music. Would go back in a heartbeat.

What a great place!
My wife, teenage son and I have had the good fortune of living in the large unit at the back for the past 7 months while our home is being remodeled. We're already sold on Carpinteria, having called it home for more than 15 years. However, living on Dorrance Ave., just a short walk from the beach, with easy access to the Spot (best burgers in town) and Island Brewing Co. (a world class micro-brewery) provided a whole new appreciation for our unique little beach town. Noteworthy restaurants within walking distance include Thai Elephant, Sly's, and Gianfrancos. Not to be missed is Zookers! The unit is spacious, clean and comfortable, and the location is fantastic. Carpinteria has one of the best beaches on the Central Coast and there are ample opportunities for swimming, beach combing, surfing, and stand up paddling. Nearby can be found fantastic Mt. Bike trails in the Santa Barbara front range, and endless variations of rides for roadbikers between SB, Carpinteria, Ojai, and Ventura. Our only regret is that our house will be ready in a couple of weeks, and we'll have to leave. Enjoy!

Our Stay in Paradise
My wife and I stayed at this cute beach house and felt as if we'd gone back in time to a simpler way of life. If you LOVE great morning sunshine to start your day along with a refreshing stroll on the beach (Only 3 block away) or a relaxing walk through Nature in the Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park then this is your place to stay. This cute little town has everything you need to be quite at ease, yet if you feel you need more, the nightlife of downtown Santa Barbara is only a short scenic 15 minute drive away.
The local restaurants serve a variety of very tasty meals along with a local brew house only 2 blocks away that serves up very flavorful locally brewed beer with snacks and live music in an outdoor setting. The shopping is nice with friendly family owned businesses that really appreciate your business.
What we really enjoyed the most from our stay, was the clean, quite and very comfortable surroundings of Carpinteria. The rental home was everything that we expected it to be. We slept well at night and always looked forward to waking up early to take advantage of all the beauty of the area. The mountains look larger than life as you walk on the beach. This area of California is truly a hidden treasure. We look forward to coming back soon to relax and enjoy all that it has to offer.
