About this lodge
Camp Mollocket is a 90 year old classic Maine lodge situated on secluded Shagg Pond. While you are truly in the middle of the Maine forest, you will enjoy all modern amenities. The rustic “Grand Old Lady” charm has been maintained while the kitchen and baths were completely renovated and modernized in the fall of 2010. Sitting on 2 and ½ acres of land with 450 feet of private lake frontage on Shagg Pond and surrounded by forests and mountains, one can find at Camp Mollocket unparalleled peace and rest.
Camp Mollocket has two private docks and a small private beach or shallow wading area, depending on how high the water in the pond is! Shagg Pond provides excellent opportunities for water activities including swimming, boating and outstanding fishing. Relax on the wraparound screened porch, cuddle up in front of the massive stone fireplace, or walk out the back door for some of the finest hiking and walking trails in Maine – there is something for everyone. Camp Mollocket is large enough for a family reunion, or cozy enough for a romantic getaway.
Camp Mollocket, set in the midst of the Maine forests on a beautiful mountain lake is truly a place to get away from it all. Here you can relax amidst the beauty of the Western Maine Mountains. This is a place where no one will bother you, and you can truly forget about the issues and challenges of our urbanized world. Solitude and peace are the watchword for this location. Enjoy the available canoe, sail boat and paddle boat.
Camp Mollocket is still very accessible. It is only a 3 hour drive from the Boston area. Because it is off the normal summer vacation routes, detailed driving instructions will be needed to find the camp. These, of course, will be provided when you reserve your vacation time. Camp Mollocket is a large Maine lodge, but your stay at this Grand Old Lady can be tailored to meet your needs, from a getaway for two to a relatively large family reunion.
Despite the wonderful solitude you will experience at Camp Mollocket, you will still be within a reasonable driving distance of many attractions from golf to sight-seeing to antiquing to hiking and more.

Camp Mollockett did not disappoint! So much space to spread out, very private, great swimming, hiking trail right down the road, comfortable beds and everything you need. For a group of friends who always tent camp together, this place was the perfect upgrade. Thank you so much Bruce and Ann, we will be back next summer!

Perfect, week long, rustic retreat gave my family of 11 a chance to explore nature, swim, canoe, fish, hike, play games, read, catch frogs, gather around the campfire for smores, and just enjoy each other. The wraparound screened porch gave a feeling of being in the treetops.

The property suited our family vacation perfectly. The Maine camp feel was fantastic! Plenty of room for our party of 10. Shagg pond is beautiful and warm!

We enjoyed this camp with our grown children and young grandchildren. There was plenty of room in the house for all of us, and we spent a lot of time on the large screen porch.
The sandy area at the water's edge is small, and there are lots of lily pads and the occasional leach. The little boys loved watching the huge bullfrogs, pollywogs and fish. We took the canoe out several times--once, we watched a moose that had walked out into the water, and a few times, the loons swam very close to us as they fished. So fun! We also hiked the Little Concord Pond trail which was right nearby.
The camp and its contents tell the story of its owners--a family who has many happy memories over generations there: hand done artwork, the wood paneling, maps, tons of books, and photos. The hosts were great at communicating with us.
This camp is near ATV trails, and although there were plenty of ATVs around, the riders were all very respectful of us and our dogs when we were out walking on the road and trails.

We stayed at the camp for a week with a group of 11 adults. Plenty of space for everyone to spread out and plenty of space for everyone to gather together. Whether it was sitting around the dining table eating, playing games or relaxing by the fire place, the cabin is very accommodating. While the weather didn’t cooperate for swimming or boating the pond and surrounding areas were peaceful and relaxing. The waterfall provided a good show after the heavy rains.
This cabin definitely falls into the category of all you need to bring is the clothes on your back and food for your belly
Thanks for the opportunity to spend time at camp Mollocket

I do not want to go into details other than to say the owners were very open and easy to communicate with when an issue came up . The house is filled with what must be memories of many generations of family spending time together, from measuring the growth of children through the ages on the door frame , books collected over the years and hand made lap quilts and pillows of all sizes. It has a warm and cozy vibe. If you are looking for a spotless, sterile environment, then this is not for you. But if you are looking for a place to gather with family and your focus is on being together, playing with the kids in the shallow water down at the lake, then I would say, this is perfect.

This is our second year staying at Camp Mollocket. There were 12 of us again, ranging from age 5 to nearly 50. There is so much to do at the house and in the surrounding areas. We fished, hiked, mountain biked, swam, and spent a lot of time on the spacious porch. This place is for folks looking to disconnect while experiencing an authentic Maine camp. We’ll be back next year!

We had a nice quiet stay. Lost power for the first night and day, but we made the most of it.

Our family stayed here for 4 nights with a group of friends and our kids (ages ranged 1-4). We appreciated having plenty of space to spread out, both in terms of the number of bedrooms, first floor living room space, and spacious screened in porch. I would definitely describe this space as quite rustic and a bit rundown, but it did the job.
We had great weather for our stay so we spent as much time as possible out on the water. Most likely due to all the rain, there was no sandy beach as shown in the photos, but there was a dock to hangout on, which was still nice. We also appreciated having access to the canoe. As a heads up for folks with small kids: we discovered the shallow area near the dock was teeming with leeches, making it unsafe to have kids wading around. As a workaround, we ended up paddling everyone out to the center of the pond and putting down an anchor to do our swimming instead.
The only other heads up I can offer is that Vrbo lists the checkout time as 11am, but checkout is actually 10am.

Our extended family of 12 had a wonderful stay. The traditional camp was very comfortable and had plenty of room. The hosts were accommodating and provided clear information and instruction. Boats, life jackets, chairs and other amenities were much appreciated. The water access is down a steep hill, but my 84 year old mother was able to manage it. The dog loved the water and spent time wading around watching the numerous tadpoles. Loved hearing the frogs and loons. The porch was a perfect gathering spot, and we appreciated it when it rained. Thank you!

This house is an amazing spot to get away and relax by the water. The views from the pond were great, and we enjoyed the privacy and remote. environment around the house. Overall, I would highly recommend this spot.

We rented Camp Mollocket for the week with a group of 12 and 2 dogs. The house is a throwback to the Maine camps of the 60s and 70s, and the decor, books, and even some of the furniture transported us back to a simpler time-one thankfully without Internet. There is even a rotary phone! The many bedrooms gave the teens and parents privacy, and the “family room” accommodated the younger kids who wanted to sleep together. The house has plenty of room for folks to spread out, the porch being the ideal hangout spot. While it doesn’t have a wide open vista overlooking the pond, you can catch the glittering waters through the trees and hear the loons calling to each other. Pure magic. The pond is small but very clean and teeming with life—we spotted frogs upon frogs, fish, the aforementioned loons, tons of dragonflies, and thankfully, hardly a mosquito or deer fly.
There are two bathrooms, one of which is tucked off the side of the porch and took us a few minutes to find, and the showers run hot. The kitchen, while small, fit all our food for the week. There are two small
Charcoal grills—a gas grill would be an amazing upgrade but the charcoal fit with the rustic vibe.
Shagg Pond is right next to some great hiking trails, including ones in the gem Little Concord State Park, and our party had a blast hiking, mountain biking, and exploring the area.
I would absolutely recommend this place for those looking for a real “camp” experience, and for those who want to really, truly unplug. No internet and spotty cell phone service gave all of us a much needed break from social media, our work emails, and the news. Overall, a fantastic experience.

Everything you'd expect from a historic Camp in Maine. 11 people and 3 dogs were very comfortable. We all had a great time from the 2 year old grandson to the Grampa.

Sorta meh
I hate to leave a negative review but for $500+ per night, it was just ok. The house is cute. It’s very old w lots of antique throwback type items that give you a feeling of stepping back in time 60 years. The pond was disappointing. Depth off dock was maybe 2-3 ft and rocky so it’s tough to swim off dock. Certainly no jumping off dock. Lots of weeds/Lilly pads growing right off where you’d swim which was not appealing. Was looking forward to fishing but it seems like it’s just a ton of tiny sunfish and perch. No bass. Apparently there are trout and catfish.
The wrap around porch was actually pretty awesome even though you can scarcely see the water through the trees.
There was a broken window w glass all over the ground in front of the house which my son was walking around w bare feet. Thank god no cuts.
As we were packing up the housekeeper arrived an hour early and literally just walked into the house and started cleaning as we were frantically packing. It was very weird. Weirder still she proceeded to harangue us about not putting the towels in the same laundry bag as the sheets (which we actually didn’t do).
It just wasn’t what we envisioned. Too pricey for what it was in my opinion.

Week in the woods
Camp Mollocket is a historic property, originally built as a girls camp. The reminders of its long history are everywhere, which we loved. If you’re looking for a shiny modern house, this is not for you. But if you want a true Maine retreat it’s perfect. The kitchen had everything we needed, the fireplace was awesome on a chilly morning. The big central room had plenty of space for kids to play while adults read, talked and played games on the enormous porch. The porch feels like a treehouse, especially when a breeze rustles the treetops. We all enjoyed messing around in boats down by the dock. The paddle boat was especially nice for the kids. The dock is a two minute scramble down the hill from the house and we found we could call down to it easily from the porch. We saw chipmunks, a variety of toads and a shy snake. The kids marveled at bullfrog tadpoles as big as mice! The dogs had plenty of room to roam but stayed close to the house. It’s a bit of a hike off the main road, but not bad once you figure it out. Our teens sorely missed cellphone service and internet, but the rest of us enjoyed the respite. It’s very likely we’ll be back next year!

Wonderful Family Vacation
Our family of 11 and 4 dogs stayed at this wonderful property. We loved everything about it with the exception of how steep it was to get to the lake, as my parents are older and struggled with the hills. We loved the remoteness of the property. Bruce and Ann were very responsive to any questions that we had.

What a wonderful gem tucked away in the Maine woods! Despite some rainy weather we enjoyed the large porch and cozy fireplace. On nicer days we relaxed at the beach. Thanks for sharing your classic camp with us!

A true Maine camp!
My family and I loved our stay at Camp Mollocket! The camp is great for kids and adults, with lots of beds and space to play, cook and rest. The days were spent on the pond (so clean and refreshing), or hiking close by. Every evening ended with dinner on the screened in porch, s’mores around the fire pit and then falling asleep listening to the loon calls. One day around dusk we watched a moose eat and bathe on the northwest shore of the pond. The listing is very accurate and representative, the owners very responsive. We loved the rustic Maine camp feel while having modern amenities (dishwasher, hot showers, etc). Would recommend this hidden gem for anyone looking for a quiet and fun time away. Loved our stay and will not forget it!

Recommendation
Hardly found a shower in the house. There was a sign on the second floor in the toilet -the shower does not work-
We (10 people) who come to the next day wedding were shocked, until we called the owner and he explained that the shower was on the first floor. Without this clarification we would not have found a shower. Better to have two signs One "This shower under renovation" and second "Shower on the first floor" Funny story

Great Stay at Camp Mollocket
Camp Mollocket was everything we expected. It's very well equipped and clean. High marks on the kitchen, and the very ample supply of towels and bedding, especially since we spent a lot of time swimming in Shagg Pond. A couple of things to be aware of, although we didn't consider these negatives:
- The dock and the beach are both down a steep hill, but there's a nice rustic handrail and steps to help navigate. The beach is a great play spot for little kids, but the dock is a better entry point to start a swim.
- Most of the bedrooms are pretty small, and double or twin beds only. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was clean and fresh. We were there during a hot spell, and we appreciated the fans in every room.
- The wraparound screened porch is great -- that's where we spent most of out time, including meals.
- Great firepit and plenty of wood available.
We give Mollocket high marks, and we'd happily go back for another stay.

What a fantastic get away. The location is very appealing and the week on Shagg Pond was one of the best family vacations we've ever had. The property owners were great and made everything so easy. I would highly recommend this spot and the State of Maine in general.

Great rustic cabin that has a tremendous wrap around porch and field stone fireplace. Comfortably slept 10 adults and 4 children.
Amazing bullfrogs, loons and fish. Definitely recommend water shoes as there are sizable rocks around the dock.

Fantastic Real Cabin Experience
We had a family reunion here and really loved it. If you want to experience a real Maine cabin vacation, this place is just like I remember when growing up. Large living room for games and hanging out. A huge screened in porch that was really fantastic and a great fire pit hangout area that was very close to the house. Water access is difficult for old people as it is down a slope. The beach area has a very slow slope into the water so it is great for little kids. The beach does disappear when it rains, at least early in the summer, as the owner points out. Parking is plentiful if you have a group assembling from all over like we did. The place is pretty deep in the woods which we loved. No internet or cell service all week made it special. It also caused some organizational struggles as we were a bit unprepared. Make sure all of your group has the directions printed out and has the house phone number to call if they need help navigating. Google maps will get you you there except for the very last turn as well.

We had a great time! The house was clean with plenty of space to sleep the 10 of us. A perfect spot for a getaway. The screened in deck was awesome and that's where we spent most of our time. Would definitely come back here again. Thanks for a great stay!

Connect With Nature at Mollocket
Camp Mollocket is a place to be in nature. I’m lulled to sleep by the bullfrogs and wake to the loons. A ‘Maine Day’ is blue sky, sunshine, and white clouds. I sit on the little beach, read or sketch, and observe a dragon fly resting on my hand. The big kids can swim, go boating or fishing, and the little kids can wade in the shallow water, catch tadpoles and dig in the sand.
It is a great place to hike to a rocky waterfall, pick blueberries, or climb Bald Mountain and view mountains and ponds for miles.
Camp Mollocket is rustic but has everything one needs. It provides the comforts of home for a vacation in the Maine woods. Family and friends connect for a board game in the great room, picnic on the screened porch, warm up in front of the fireplace, or roast marshmallows outside at the fire pit.
This is a place where you make your own fun . . . and the memories to nourish you until you can come back again.

Loved this rustic but updated lodge! Very Private!
About 25 years ago we rented a small camp on Shag pond and loved the pond and especially the waterfalls at the outlet. At the time my sister and I were taking a walk and noticed Camp Mollocket and commented on what a neat place it would be to rent and too bad that it appeared to be abandoned and in need of repair.
So now that our family vacation has grown to include 3 generations, 6 households, and one dog, I was excited to have the opportunity to rent the camp, and we were not disappointed.
The first thing new I noticed driving in were the wind mills. Living in Maine I have heard a lot of the pros and cons and my first thoughts were of excitement that I get the chance of being close to them and how elegant and peaceful they looked. These feelings stayed with me through the week. Even when we could hear the windmills they were really no louder than if a plane were passing overhead.
I will admit I, too, was a bit disappointed that the rain had made the beach so wet for the kids to play on, however they soon discovered the positive side ( and the frogs) and spent hours down there catching them and putting them into their mud castle.
As for the camp itself, we couldn’t have been happier. Every household had its private sleeping area with the family room dedicated as the kids room. This is the first camp we have had where we had the use of a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and the extra chest freezer. All of which are a bonus when you have that many people trying to get away for a week. The main floor of the camp is very roomy and with the large living room and the wrap around porch each having a large table there was plenty of room not only for eating but for lots of cards, games, puzzles, and arts and crafts. The screened porch was very much appreciated on the rainy days as we were still able to sit and enjoy the outside, the pond, and hear the loons, kingfishers, and other birds.
The caretaker, Dick, was a big help when a storm triggered a circuit breaker. He was there the next morning to reset it.
The only disappointment was in the fishing. While the little fisher people had plenty to catch, the bigger ones had no luck. However, they are making plans to check out other nearby ponds.
We want to thank the Wiersmas for renovating this beautiful rustic camp, keeping its grandeur in tack while making it very user friendly; and most of all for opening it up for renting and allowing us to share this special place. We are hoping to return next year.
