About this house rental
Welcome to Xanadu West! It is an oceanfront duplex with amazing views and is great for families especially with young kids.
The duplex sits taller and closer to the ocean than its neighbors which makes for amazing views! One can see all the way from Indian Beach to the Point from the top deck. We've discovered that by being closer to the ocean (while not giving up good beach depth) life with kids and especially little ones is just much easier! You can see your kids easily from the deck if you'd like to have a drink or you just have to take a few steps and you are right on the beach with them. You don't have to put up a big umbrella or pack food or drinks as you are so close to the shaded decks and house. There is a full outdoor shower with hot and cold water outside for cleaning off all of the sand that seems to get everywhere!
The duplex has a reverse floorplan with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the first floor. All 3 bedrooms have ocean views with two of them have full oceanfront views thru large double sliding glass doors. The first of the oceanfront bedrooms has queen size bed and an attached bathroom. The other oceanfront bedroom has one queen bed along with a twin/trundle to allow for a maximum of 4 people in that room. The third bedroom on first floor has 2 sets of bunk beds allowing 4 people to sleep in that room as well.
You can hear the roar of the surf when you fall asleep and then welcome it in the morning when you are woken up by little feet. Enjoy just opening the glass door and stepping out on the lower deck for a wonderful view of the ocean.
The second floor includes the living room, kitchen, dining room and a second master bedroom and bathroom. The second floor has a vaulted ceiling with multiple large windows including a large bay window to provide a wonderful amount of natural light into the house. Just step out onto the upper deck and you will have one of the most amazing views of Emerald Isle.
The second floor master has a king size bed and boasts both an ocean view and a sound view out of its two windows.
Outside, there are two different decks with which to enjoy the ocean. The lower deck resides just outside of the first floor oceanfront rooms described earlier. This deck is completely shaded and is equipped with four adirondack chairs, foot rests, and side tables which makes for a great place to sit and watch the surf, read a book, have a drink and just enjoy the beach. The top deck, which has doubled in size, has a large dining table that seats up to 10 people which makes for a great place to eat a meal. There is another gathering space with a bench and two chairs as well as some very comfortable rocking chairs to help enjoy the fabulous view of Emerald Isle.
As a family of 6 with 4 kids, we are keenly aware of just how much 'stuff' one must bring to the beach. We can help free up some space by providing a Pack-n-Play, Bouncy Seat, and High Chair/Booster that are already at Xanadu West.
The kitchen is well equipped with an electric stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, two coffee makers including a traditional Mr. Coffee and a Keurig, deep fryer, slow cooker, blender, and large griddle. There is a nice dvd/video library including movies for both kids and adults for afternoon or evening viewing. There are games and puzzles as well for those in need of a break from the sun. Also, a charcoal grill is ready to help make great family meals.
We generally require a 7 night stay during thr prime season. Linens including towels are provided free of charge during the prime season of June, July and August. We can arrange linens/towels at guest request in the other months during the off-season to be paid for as an extra charge by the renter. This allows us to keep the nightly rental rates lower in the off-season.
For those that want to explore the island, there are plenty of activities away from the beach for everyone in your group. For the active: bicycling (rentals available on island), golf, kayak and boat rentals, mini-golf, amusement park, horseback riding, volleyball, water park, driving range, skating, off-shore fishing, kite-flying. For the sightseer and shopper: There is Morehead City, Beaufort waterfront, Swansboro waterfront shops and antiques, Emerald Isle shops, North Carolina Aquarium and more.

The best house for accessing the beach, it's a very short stroll from the deck to the ocean. No walkway, no stairs, no high dune to climb, it's fantastic.
The house is great too, comfortable, clean, has everything you may need. As with most beach houses, there are a lot of stairs (most of my family has knee issues), but that's just how these houses are built.
We already booked our return visit for next year!

We had a great visit at Xanadu West for our first time at Emerald Isle. We had a few issues during our stay but Matt was super responsive. You can’t beat the location being right on the beach. Definitely would come back again!

We had a wonderful vacation in Emerald Isle. Hose is just as described. Loved that it’s ocean front! Our only issue was, the a/c on the top level, didn’t cool properly. However, that would not keep me from renting it again. Probably just needed servicing. Overall, great house, great location!

Xanadu west was just as advertised, great for families with a large outdoor space on 3 levels. Being right on the beach was amazing, even the 4 year old could hang out and wait for us to accompany her for sand castle building. As usual, the kitchen and living room/dining room were the focus of the action with a panoramic view of the sea. I will definitely return!

From past experiences, we bring our own pitchers, crockpot, skillet, knives and pots but were well pleased with the kitchen items already on hand. The outside shower was a lifesaver for all the sand in our hair and clothes plus 4 people could clean up at the same time (including the 3 inside showers). Both decks were well used for watching the waves and chilling. Really loved the short walk from the deck to the water. Ready for the next trip to Xanadu West!!!

The pictures barely do Xanadu justice. This place was fantastic. It had everything we needed, was clean, stocked, great location, and above all an easy, smooth process. Communication was top notch, the ocean, even though it is my fickle friend provided days on end of enjoyment. The Home Xanadu, was the icing on the cake. It was absolutely wonderful, no complaints just a relaxing week at the beach in a Xanadu, dreamland home.

We enjoyed staying at Xanadu West. It was everything we were hoping for and more. The home smelled amazing the entire stay! Plenty of items such as cups and plates for our entire family. We had everything we needed at our fingertips. The views are amazing! We enjoyed sitting on the decks and watching the birds and dolphins in the water. The owner responded quickly to the few questions I had before our arrival. I definitely give this place 5 stars!

We had a fantastic stay! The house was well set up for a group. The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking supplies, plates, glasses and good sized fridge. The double outside decks are a dream!!

We stayed here Nov. 3th - Nov. 7th, 3 couples. We had a wonderful time. We bring whatever we think we'll need but the house was fully stocked in case we forgot anything. Great restaurants close by and grocery stores to pick up snack items. The view from the top deck is absolutely amazing, sunrise and sunsets. Each couple had their own room and bathroom and plenty of privacy. We loved this house and are thinking when we can come back.

Property was extremely clean and fit the needs of our family. The baby gates on the porches and steps inside was so helpful for containing our 2 year old in one location. Host was great to answer any questions and immediately called when a mishap with rental property happened. We were very pleased and plan to book a future stay soon.

This place offers SO much, very very comfortable home, great communication with the owner and convenient location (even during holiday week, the beach was not crowded at all!) Bedrooms were very clean with fresh clean linens, kitchen adquately stocked with any and all staples for cooking. I love having coffee on the deck and being close enough to watch grandkids playing on the beach!

This is our 4th stay in this house over the past 8 or so years, and it remains a favorite. The location on the beach and bedroom set up can’t be beat for families with kids. We enjoyed lots of time on the decks and on the beach, and also visited the aquarium, Fort Macon & spent a day out on Shackleford & Cape Lookout. The kitchen is convenient for cooking. Many things had been refreshed since our last visit, such as bath mats, bed coverings, etc. The things we love about this house have remained the same!

Pillows and beds and bedding could all use a good cleaning. Rugs in baths are gross. Duct tape on kitchen table. Washer smells horrible. Need more furniture in bedrooms somehow. Only one bedside table in master. Take toilet paper and paper towels because they’re not provided and they don’t tell you.

The location was perfect for us, on the beach and clise to the aquarium. We all really enjiyed our stay. There was plenty of room for all of us.

A lot of items were broken with/on the house. Chairs, porch umbrella, and there was an electrical box with uncapped wires sticking out on the ceiling to name a few issues. The TV speakers didn’t work. There was open bags of food and pop in the cupboard. Trash in one of the bathroom trash cans. Toilet paper and urine still in one of the toilets upon arrival. Very large stains on the bed. I contacted the owner immediately upon arrival and let him know the few things I had found and told him I would let him know if we found anything else. He responded quickly to my first message. And then stopped responding when we found the rest of the issues. I wanted to make him aware of the issues so I didn’t get the blame and have to pay for the poor shape of the house. We definitely left the house cleaner than we found it. We will definitely be going back to Emerald Isle.. but won’t be renting this house again.

Overall our stay was nice. Fantastic view + fantastic price! My whole family thought the property could have been cleaned a lot better. We ended up washing the bedding ourselves. We think it’s probably due to lack of workers, and the workers they have probably having lots to do in a short amount of time, so we didn’t mind. And also, this wouldn’t be the hosts’ fault! So we didn’t get too upset about it. Other than that, there were several outlets that didn’t work- ones in several of the bathrooms and the outside ones. Also, it says that linens are provided, but read the whole description because they are only provided during certain months. Overall, the house is such a great rate, sleeps so many, has a fantastic view, and it’s in a great location on the island!!!

Well, we have finally found “our” vacation home away from home. 50 foot walk to the beach. Perfect sleeping arrangements. Perfect upstairs gathering area for entire family. Benches for chairs at the dining table was the bomb. Matt is the most responsive owner I have met and I’m an old fart. If you are disappointed here, you will probably never be happy.

This was our 3rd year at Xanadu West. Our family LOVES Emerald Isle & staying at this beach house! You can't beat the ocean view, the location is ideal & the kitchen is well stocked. We bring our adult children and our 3 & 7 year old grandchildren & we all love it. This year, we remembered to bring extra flashlights to enjoy "ghost crabbing" on the beach at night. We choose to eat out only once or twice during the week & like to return to the Full Moon Oyster Bar in Atlantic Beach. Matthew is great to communicate with & quick to respond. We hope to return to Xanadu West for year four at our favorite beach with our family.

Can’t beat this location right on the beach! We loved spending time on the deck and the easy beach access is perfect with little ones. The beach is beautiful and not crowded at all. The house was very clean and comfortable. Fresh seafood and a fresh key lime pie from Capn Willis Seafood market just down the road made for delicious meals. We highly recommend Xanadu West!

We had an amazing time on our mini vacation for our son’s 1st birthday! You simply CANNOT beat the location of this rental. We were so close to the sand that our older kiddos were able to play on the beach while we watched from the deck! We had just a couple minor cleanliness issues but the owner was very helpful and quick to respond. Could use a few minor repairs but overall this is a great place! It was well stocked with kitchen supplies. It was so nice to stay somewhere that was very accommodating to little ones. There were booster seats, baby gates, and pack n plays! We will be staying here again in the future!

We had a great stay at Xanadu West! We did have an issue with the air conditioner during our stay, but the owner(s) were attentive to the need. The only thing I could say that could be improved is communication before the stay. I had some questions regarding linens, and was unable to get those answered until our instructions were sent via email a few weeks before our stay (I was using the VRBO messenger and I think they preferred email, but I wasn’t aware of that). Thanks!
