We enjoyed our stay at this cottage very much. The cottage and grounds were large and beautiful. It was a wonderful stay. I especially loved picking fruit from the Starfruit tree! Inga and Rick were very kind.

Perfect Oahu lodging
Great property. Everything you may need is supplied. The house is well laid out, lots of comfortable furniture, large closets, the kitchen is well equipped and laid out well. The hosts are very nice folks and even though they live next door you never know they are there. 2 miles down the hill and you are at the beach. Food truck pod is at the bottom of the hill along with a nice Foodland grocery store. We enjoyed our stay and would book this property again.

Comfortable quiet time in a safe neighbourhood
The cottage was spacious and well equipped. Very comfy bed and the extra outdoor shower was great after a day at the beach. Rick and Inga were very pleasant and helpful.

Pupukea Paradise
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this spacious private cottage located in the heart of the north shore of Oahu. Our hosts were very accommodating providing us with information about the local area. The cottage was very well equipped with all the conveniences of home and very comfortable and relaxing which is why a vacation is so important! We will definitely return to Pupukea and highly recommend our hosts and this Pupukea paradise!

Beautiful Property
Rick and Inga are the best. The property has everything needed and enjoyed all of it.

We found Inga and Rick's guest home to be precisely as described, and their accommodation to our arrival/departure schedules was very much appreciated. The spacious VRBO is well maintained and fully appointed with appliances, basic supplies, beach gear, and conveniences to make relaxing easy. Owners Rick and Inga were terrific hosts, and they made sure we had everything needed for an enjoyable week on our 50th anniversary. We never needed to use the air conditioning as several ceiling fans and louvered windows allowed good air circulation during day and night. We were delighted to discover that the guest home was outrageously quiet compared to closer to North Shore and Turtle Bay, where we had stayed the prior week. We would highly recommend this VRBO for its location, relative seclusion, and accommodating hosts.

Birds Galore
Beautifully built and creatively appointed, the large private cottage sits in a neighborhood removed from the busy North Shore. A lovely place for a quiet couple who want a retreat. Bird watching is wonderful and the hot/cold outdoor shower is an added perk. For those who love cooking, the kitchen is complete and well equipped. Foodland Market is close by.

Sanctuary
Really nicely appointed open space guest house next to the owners home (Rick and Inge) but very private. Completely private lot surrounded by thick natural hedges and vegetation with a open and closing front drive in gate. It was a wonderfully peaceful sanctuary after tackling the bustle and insanity of the North Shore! The house is very well appointed with everything you can need (except food of course) and Rick and Inge were perfect hosts who were very hospital, kind and respectful of our privacy. We loved our stay there.

Terrific place to style to immerse yourself in the North Shore way of life!
Location: Terrific distance from all North Shore spots and Foodland Shopping. Property is up against a valley on back boundary and located on a street that dead ends. Very Quiet and convenient.
Condition: Very clean and very nicely decorated. Flooring, cabinets, countertops are very nice and in great condition. Drawers have self closers-which keeps noise down for the early riser.
Amenities: Bed is terrific. Washroom is great. Outside shower stall is really nice for returns from beach....although it is private enough you could just take the daily shower out there and be secluded. Kitchen has all you might need for cooking. Beach chairs, umbrellas, ice chest, boogie boards etc provided for days on the beach.
Rick was very helpful and responsive before and during our stay.

Spacious and Tranquil
Rick and Inge have a beautiful and spacious cottage. We loved staying in this peaceful neighborhood that is well protected by lush foilage. The cottage is well stocked and leaves nothing to want including a full size washer and dryer. Quick drive and you are at many beaches on North Shore and a well stocked grocery store. We experienced a winter storm which was no problem for this cottage as the yard was well protected. I’d highly recommend this cottage if you enjoy privacy and peaceful surrounding while being close enough to the other beauties of the island.
Thank you for having us.

Wonderful stay! Very well equipped and spotless. Rick and Inga were so gracious and helpful.
The drive from Honolulu can be a challenge with heavy traffic. Once we found our “home” it was a great location for exploring the north shore. Would highly recommended this home. Leave your alarm clock behind; the island is full of confused roosters!

Great relaxing place to stay.
The owners met us and gave us a quick tour of the cottage when we first arrived. The cottage was clean, well equipped and laid out very nicely. The photo's on the website do not do this location justice. The owners also labeled the wall switches so that it was easy to locate the correct one to control the many lights and fans they have installed. They also had some "how to" books located throughout the cottage which we found very useful.
Keep in mind that you are about 2.5 miles from the nearest beach by road, but they have many beach accessories you can put in your car and take with you to the beach. The Foodland store is also about 2.5 miles, and has a good selection of items. There is a nice group of food trucks located right next to the store if you don't want to cook.
This was a very peaceful location that we will use again next time we are in Oahu if it's available.

Clean, Well Appointed, Quiet and Convenient
This was a lovely place to rest after busy beach and hiking days. The kitchen is perfect and not lacking a thing. The sheets and bed are wonderful as well as the decor with unique furnishings. It's up in a lovely quiet neighborhood; a car is a must but it's close to all the good beaches, supermarket etc.. It's incredibly clean as well!
The hosts are very welcoming and available for questions. The private outdoor shower (there is an indoor shower as well) and clothesline were very practical when coming back from outdoor sandy activities.
It would be nice to have an open outdoor seating area to watch the stars or beautiful plants but not a big deal since our days were filled with outdoor activities.
I highly recommend this beautiful rental and the price is very good for the North Shore Area.

Very nice property in a beautiful setting on the North shore.
We had a wonderful time in this jungle mountain get away. Everything is just as pictured and is very clean and comfortable. The hosts are kind and helpful. Haleiwa and the North shore beaches are a short drive away. The North shore is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and all the tourism. Relax here and enjoy the peace and serenity of the big waves especially in the winter months.

Perfect North Shore location, spaceous, quiet, and comfortable.
This is a great place, so glad we found it. Short drive to all the best spots on the North Shore. Clean, quiet, spaceous, all the necessities provided. Rick is a great host. Hope to stay here again.

Peaceful, serene and comfortable.
If you desire a quite rural setting in a comfortable, modern rental, this is your place. It’s not on the beach, but it’s a short drive to nearby North Shore beaches. There is a convenient, well stocked grocery store, Foodland, where Pupukea Road meets Highway 83. If you like poke, be sure to buy some there. Good restaurants nearby.
There is a good nearby hiking trail and an interesting historical park, Pu’u O Mahuka Heiau nearby. This park offers a stunning view of the western portion of the North Shore.

Quiet Peaceful Setting
The cottage was large and roomy. Ground lush and well maintained. Hosts were gracious. Only downside was short drive to beach. However, very close to a Foodland for supplies. Would definitely stay again.

Great North Shore Cottage in Pupukea
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage. It is spacious, clean, and comfortable and is located on a beautiful (and safe) property in the Pupukea uplands, perched above Waimea Bay and about 5 minutes drive from the shoreline. We were able to cook when we wanted, but the cottage is close enough to drive quickly to Haleiwa (when Kam Highway is not congested). We appreciated the use of beach chairs and umbrella. Had there been a wave in sight, I would have used the available boogie boards. (We visited in June, when the North Shore is calm and serious surfers have disappeared.) Cable TV was available if we had wanted to use it. Rick was responsive and helpful and our stay went very smoothly. I highly recommend this vacation rental.

Beautiful peacefuly large space amongst the trees
What a beautiful space to return to each day after discovering Oahu’s North Shore! We loved our stay at Rick and Inga’s, two beautiful souls who welcomed us with hospitality above and beyond. The space is huge and well equipped, the bed is so comfortable that we’ve come home and now want a new one ourselves!
We would recommend staying to anyone who wants to explore the north shore and have a beautiful retreat to return to each day. We would love to return some day.

Great place. Great location. Quiet retreat, away from the tourist hustle and bustle. Comfortable bed. But the best part is the outdoor shower. Look forward to coming back sometime.

This cottage is beautifully decorated and we loved the location! Very well tended and taken care of. Great value for the money!
Their was a rooster and some dogs that liked to be loud on the adjacent properties...that was a little bit annoying, but we would still stay here again because the house and property are that nice.
Just as an FYI...the cottage is located on the same property as the owner's home. I can't remember seeing that in the description. Still private, but just wanted to put that out there in case others wanted to know.

This is a great pace to stay and relax. Cottage is actually very large and well stocked with beach items, soaps and various other items. Bed was the nicest of any we slept on in our 15 night trip; just like being home. The historical town of Haliewa and Turtle bay are each just 10 to 15 minutes away. We lost electricity on day due to high winds and Rich above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Grounds were beautifully maintained. We would stay here again in a heart beat.

Gracious hosts, beautiful spot. Large, spotless, well designed and equipped cottage with excellent kitchen (sharp kitchen knives!) and extremely comfortable king size bed. We enjoyed watching the Olympics on the giant TV in the comfy TV room. The hosts Rick and Inge are hospitable and thoughtful. There's no lanai or regular outside eating space, but they planted two very comfortable chairs on their large, lush lawn and invited us to lounge there all we wanted. It was peaceful watching the wind mills turning across the tops of the trees.

My wife and I were looking for a quiet, private, and most importantly authenticate Hawaiian retreat well away from the big city and we found it in Inga and Rick's beautiful cottage. The location, right in the heart of the famous North Shore was ideal for day tripping locally and all over the island - a five minute drive took us to the Hawaiian pipeline where the best surfers in the world were riding 25'+ waves. A few minutes in the other direction you find any number of breathtaking white sand beaches with mild waves perfect for body surfing, SUP'ing, snorkeling, and every other water activity imaginable. A few minutes past that in and you're in a fun little tourist town full of restaurants and eclectic shops and galleries. Multiple hiking trails also dot the area, and Rick was an invaluable guide to the best of them.
The cottage itself is simply beautiful - it is bright, open, and masterfully decorated by Rick's wife Inga, a formidable artist in her own right. Every detail is accounted for - lights are labeled, high-end appliances (stove, dishwasher, clothes washer/dryer) are supplied as are cooking supplies and utensils of every stripe. Reading books abound, including local travel works as well as guilty-pleasure soft covers. All of the beach supplies you could ever want were also provided - a big beach umbrella, coolers, snorkeling gear, body surf boards, etc. - we were expecting to have to purchase or rent this type of thing so were delighted at the quality and scope of what was available.
The property is fully enclosed by mature native trees and tropical greenery, every plant lovingly cultivated by Inga over a lifetime. A secure electric gate ensures privacy - when you drive in through that gate, it feels like you are entering your own personal compound.
If you are looking for a quiet escape and a true sense for what it's like to live on Oahu's North Shore, we can't recommend this property highly enough!

The grounds and cottage were simply beautiful. Up Pupukea above any noise and traffic the North Shore could occasionally bring, was literally a breath of fresh air to come home to every day and night. This was my wife's 1st time in Hawaii and while it'll never be debated that the place is amazing, this being my 4th, knew that while not bothersome, the sight of little bugs and geckos indoors are just part of the Aloha lifestyle. My wife being the city gal she is wasn't too fond of that idea, but boy is she spoiled now. There was actually not one little bug we seen, and believe me, my wife kept an eye out(hahah). Besides that, the space itself was wide open and modern with all the amenities(and more) anyone could hope for. The bed was as comfortable as mine at home, both indoor and outdoor showers were extremely clean and functional with excellent water pressure. Brand new laundry and kitchen appliances with granite countertops. There were wonderful beach chairs, coolers, and other beach necessities as well as private gated parking. As for Rick and Inga they could not have been anymore sweet, interesting, and non-intrusive. I could go on and on and haven't even touched on the actual place of the North Shore which believe me speaks for itself. The Foodland and food trucks at the bottom of the hill(a 5 min drive) can supply you with all your needs, i.e. food, alcohol, sunscreen- and Haliewa which is a cute little town with shopping, restaurants, and such as well as Turtle Bay with it's repertoire of such are only a 20 min drive away. Some of the best beaches in the world are less than 10 and there is no shortage of them. So why are you still reading this, go book with Rick and Inga(haha)-mahalo!!

We had such a wonderful time staying at this cottage! The hosts, Rick and Inge, have thought of every detail and have created a low-key, elegant environment to enjoy the best of Oahu. The cottage is nestled in a quiet neighborhood up the hill from Pupukea beach, with easy access to Waimea Bay, Haleiwa, and not too far from the freeway to town. They have everything you'd need - a full kitchen, beach supplies, cable TV, and books everywhere. There's also a grocery store at the bottom of the hill that's convenient for a quick stop. If you want to be in the center of the action, this may not be the place for you...but if your idea of a perfect vacation is a place where you can enjoy all the sights and sounds of the city, then retreat to quiet comfort, do yourself a favor and don't stay in town. Stay here instead. We'll be back for sure.

Great place to stay. It is private and gated. It is 2 miles up the mountain, but very easy to get to anything at the North Shore. The Foodland store is located at the bottom of the road, so it is very easy to get supplies.
The owners meet you and provide good advice for your stay.

It was so exciting! We were finally in Hawaii again after our first visit 10 years ago. This time we were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and we were approaching our “cottage away from the world”, just a five-minute drive to the North Shore of Oahu where the beaches are wonderful and so is the hiking…
We walked in the front door and into a beautiful spacious kitchen that turned out to have everything one could ask for from the brand new appliances and spacious cabinets and counter tops to everything we needed for our meal preparation including a large salad bowl! (We enjoyed being in this cottage so much that we purchased all the groceries we needed at the full service grocery store at the bottom of the hill and prepared all our meals “at home”).
In the living room/bedroom area there was the very comfortable king-sized bed you see in the photo with a conveniently large night table and lamp on each side. The rest of the decor was eclectic with interesting cabinets, chests, tables, lamps, rugs and accessories, all very comfortably arranged, giving the house character and an air that was both chic and cozy.
I mustn’t neglect to mention the ample closet space behind louvered doors at the end of the room. There were plenty of hangers and space for three suitcases full of clothes and shoes!
But perhaps what I loved the most about this enchanting space were the three enormous plate glass windows that looked out into the garden. We would go to bed with the curtains open so that when we awoke in the morning all we had to do was open our eyes and we could gaze out the windows at the sky, the mountain in the background, the lawn and the trees along the edge of the property. It was wonderful and it really was private!
Then there was the den with its large, comfortable couch and large flat screen TV. This room has a sliding glass door that leads out to the outdoor shower - one more feature that makes this house such a gem.
The bathroom was also spacious with plenty of good lighting, a large mirror and large walk-in shower. The washer and dryer were brand new as well and there were plenty of towels stored in the cabinet above the dryer.
Rick and Inga are very conscientious and interesting people and have gone all out in preparing this vacation home and are dedicated to making sure their guests have everything they need for an enjoyable stay. My husband and I highly recommend this cottage as a unique and beautiful place to stay!

We researched where to stay for a long time before booking this property, especially reading reviews, as this was going to be a very special month long vacation and we did not want the accommodation to disappoint us. Well, it certainly did not disappoint us. It exceeded our expectations. We have stayed in other locations on Oahu and this property is the best by far.
The photographs are accurate.
We found the descriptions accurate and helpful. Attention to detail such as beach chairs, boogy boards, beach towels we have not experienced before.
We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the property and had great fun at the beaches, also shopping in Haleiwa.
The outdoor shower was a lovely treat every day when we got back from the beach and the indoor bathroom a completely added alternative. Having laundry facilities really completed the deal for a fabulous holiday.
This was truly an unforgettable experience and we will not hesitate to return. We will recommend this property to friends and family.
Thank you to Rick and Inge for providing everything we could have asked for.

We've visited Oahu many times and have stayed in condos, hotels and homes on Waikiki and the Northshore. This trip we brought our two youngest daughters for six days on Waikiki and then treated ourselves to another six nights to ourselves after they returned home for school. After looking at many possibilities we choose this cottage and we are very happy that we did! The pictures and description are representative but can't communicate the peace, comfort and beauty of this place. The breezes through the open, (and screened), windows at night, listening to the crickets sing and the trees rustle - and in the morning, hearing the birds sing and watching the sky turn light was just wonderful. The king sized bed is super comfortable and in the perfect place to catch those breezes. The many spots to read or nap or just sit and enjoy the lush tropical jungle out the windows are a big plus. The bathroom is very nice with supplies and thick towels and the laundry set up was a great addition - nice to go home with clean clothes! The outdoor shower was something we didn't think we'd use since there are showers at most of the beaches - turns out it's quite nice to shower under the sun or the stars - in privacy - in the warm, tropical air. The kitchen is fantastic! Well stocked with soaps, pots and pans, utensils, dishes and appliances. The decor is beautiful and eclectic - we appreciated the attention to detail as well as the peaceful environment Rick and Inge have created. This place is immaculate and well kept. My husband (Brad) had a nice long chat with Rick. I, (Kathleen), enjoyed a shopping excursion to Inge's boutique in Hale'iwa. Did I mention the beach gear? Boogie boards, snorkle equipment, coolers, plastic containers, zip lock bags, everything you need for a day at the beach. And plenty of paperbacks if you forgot to bring your book! There is cable TV and a DVD - we rented a movie one night at the Foodland which is a couple of miles away. We found shopping in Mililani to be more financially practical for our main grocery shopping trip but Foodland was good for quick stops. Every day we enjoyed a breakfast in the dining room under that fantastic chandelier at the sweet dining table, then off to the beaches with all that great gear, then returned to make a late dinner each night. Sweet, lovely, peaceful. Time together, time to think, rest, play and re-energize. We will be back and highly recommend Rick and Inge's cottage. Enjoy

This is an amazing place to stay when visiting the North Shore of Oahu- treat yourself, must stay location! The cottage is located on private gated acreage- very secure and private. The property is beautifully maintained, all appliances worked, and the cottage is very well stocked, and even includes supplies and gear needed for the beach. The cottage has a beautiful (and very comfortable) king size bed, and upscale furnishings and kitchen. The rear of the cottage has windows that span the width for a beautiful view outside, and tinted windows for sun protection and day privacy- with full curtains. The Jalousie windows all around the cottage provide great cross ventilation, feel the balmy tropical breeze inside. Rick and Inga are spectacular hosts for your stay, and very helpful throughout our stay. This cottage is located up in the hills (above Waimea Falls area), very short drive down to the beautiful beaches, and also an awesome nature trail hiking area.
I have stayed at many other cabins, homes and condominiums during vacations on the North Shore of Oahu- this cottage owned by Rick and Inga is the Best! I will return- now my Home Away from Home!

My husband and I stayed at this absolutely perfect cottage for a week in January to celebrate our 2nd honeymoon. I was so surprised when we walked in, it's even better than I expected and I almost hugged the owners when I met them because it's such a nice place! They clearly take a lot of pride in creating a great experience for their guest, all the finishing touches, it feels like home. (I wish my home was this nicely laid out and decorated.) There are high quality finishes throughout from the kitchen to the bathroom and a very comfortable king-sized bed. This place is more spacious than I expected and there's even a separate TV room. The owners are very accommodating and nearby in case you need anything. We were super busy exploring all over the island while we were there but I wished I'd saved time to get to know them better, they seem like really wonderful people. I would absolutely stay here again the next time I have the chance to travel to Oahu and I am super picky about comfort, cleanliness and quiet. This place has everything we wanted and more so. I would highly recommend it to others. This is the first time I used VRBO to book a place to stay and I was a really cautious, some of the other places you find are not this nice. I'm just hoping I can manage to get a reservation for it in a few years when I can afford to travel to Oahu again, it's a really great find!

We had a great time at Beautiful Private Cottage. The place is beautiful, safe and quiet, ideal to relax during holidays. It has all the amenities of home, full kitchen, laundry... Rick is very kind and is always available to help with any question that you have. Great place for couples to relax and enjoy holidays in Oahu.

Everything was just beautiful-----I couldn't think of anything to make it better. It was wonderful to have all the amenities of home; the laundry, kitchen, reading materials, and entertainment system. And it was all immaculate and so inviting! A perfect retreat!

This wonderful cottage is an absolute must-stay! I don't normally post any sort of reviews on line of any kind but this experience was so good I wanted to let others know of this excellent rental and the wonderful owners. My wife and I guarantee you that the cottage is even better in real life than the pictures, and my wife and I will always rent this cottage on any future trip to Oahu.
We met the owners as we arrived, and they were extremely nice, helpful and gracious hosts throughout our entire week-long stay. The cottage itself is a supremely clean and very high-end and well-outfitted place which had all the comforts of home and more. It has a great and very new kitchen and bathroom, full refrigerator and clothes washer and dryer, and very nice furniture and appliances throughout the cottage. My wife and I were blown away when we walked in the door and took a quick walk-around inside...the first impressions are "wow" and "this is an incredible place". This cottage could easily rent for two or three times more than we paid for it.
In addition to the outstanding privacy and security this cottage offers, there is a great view, an outside shower which we used frequently, and it is in a good neighborhood.
My wife and I stayed on Oahu for ten total days and had looked at numerous places to stay on the North Shore. We stayed at another place farther up the Shore for two nights, and ended up leaving that place one day early so we could get to this cottage, even though the early departure from the first place meant incurring an early departure fee - it was well worth it.
Advice to other travelers going to North Shore - what you see on line is not always what you get; our first location on this trip proved that. This cottage is exactly what is advertised and MUCH more. We HIGHLY recommend it for honeymooners, couples, and those who are seeking a very, very nice, clean, classy, secure and high-end place to stay on the North Shore. You will love it!
