About this house rental
Summary:
Circa 1900 Craftsman offers historic elegance and modern updates, 1.5 blocks from Duke's East Campus! 5 minute walk from Campus Shuttle Service. The home features renovated bathrooms, a wrap-around porch with cafe table for outdoor meals, porch swing, & lounge chairs for 4, stone * ceramic surfaces in Baths & Kitchen. Moments from Whole Foods, Monuts Donuts, Juju Asian Tapas, Harris Teeter, Dales Indian Cuisine, The Federal and more!
The Space:
The first floor En Suite King Bedroom offers a subway tie soaking tub, skylight & granite double bowl vanity. Living room has stunner designer leather sofa and side chairs, 40" Smart TV with YouTube TV for Cable options, and opens to spacious eat-in kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped for your culinary aspirations, and offers drip coffee maker with high quality coffee, Ninja blender/mixer, toaster, electric kettle and more. Full second bath downstairs features a gorgeous granite vanity, granite tile flooring and subway tile bathtub surround.
Stairs to second story lead to full bath with subway tile shower, and two bedrooms with double pillow top mattresses. Washer & Dryer upstairs in bath with starter washer pods for your convenience. We use Free & Clear Unscented laundry detergent on bedding and towels so our guests with sensitivities to perfumed products can breath easy.
This listing is for the primary house, and there is an additional "in law" suite at the back of the house with a separate entrance, also available for rent. You will have sole use of the large covered front porch while the back unit gets use of its own private back porch.
Guest Access:
You will be staying in the 1400 square foot main house- there is a keypad on the front door so that you can arrive when convenient, and come and go as you please. The driveway is for your use. We also have a back "mother-in-law" suite which has its own separate entrance, and that guest will walk up the driveway to access their unit.
The Neighborhood:
Historic Walltown is a diverse, mixed income, urban neighborhood with foot traffic. Please do not rent this home if you are not comfortable in a multicultural, urban setting as it will not be a good fit for you. The house is 1.5 blocks from the Duke East Campus walking path. The historic neighborhood is close to Duke's East Campus, 9th Street, Monuts & more!
Getting Around:
This house has easy access to I-85, NC-147 etc. Uber and Lyft are common in Durham so no worries if you don't have a car! There are also plenty of bus routes, and the neighborhood is walking distance to downtown if you prefer.
Other Things to Note:
As the home offers two separate units, we do ask guests to be considerate regarding noise, especially before 8am and after 9pm.
We have a Smart TV with access to Netflix, your Amazon or Hulu account, and many other apps. We Cut the Cord on Cable, but offer YouTubeTV which functions similar to Cable and offers tons of Live or On Demand Options!
Interaction with Guests:
We want you to be able to settle into this home as if it was your own. We'll stay out of your way, but we're just a quick message away if you have questions about restaurants, events or the house, or if an unexpected issue arises.
We are happy to answer questions that you may have! Whether it's a hankering for a local cider, a sudden urge for a new haircut or a desperate need for a donut, we are happy to help you find the closest and best place to make that happen.

We found the house dirty; a lot of cobwebs. Look at the windows. When we walked in the board in front of the fireplace I guess had fallen down. Insulation inside looked moldy. The house seemed dirty.
The house smelt extremely musty. I think a coat of paint would help. The stairs were so steep my mother in law couldn’t climb them. Just couldn’t get over the smell. Other than that great location

Overall, very pleased with our stay. Only complaint would be the dryer, which took 3+ hours to dry a medium size load of summer clothes.

Location was close to many things but neighbors were a bit sketchy! House has lots of potential but attention to detail is sadly missing. The NO smoking rule is clearly NOT adhered to by the person staying in the back as the entire 1st floor smelled of smoke, they were smoking both inside and outside (bedroom window in middle of night). The noise ordinance was also not adhered to by the person in the back as they were rifling around in the trash while smoking at 2am! There were many spiders and webs around the living room and the beds were terribly uncomfortable! It was a miss for sure!! There was also many missing glass windows from the swinging doors where our small child needed extra supervision due to the missing windows. Would NOT recommend or entertain staying there again!

This is a older house with well-separated spaces. It worked well for our family. The kitchen is mostly equipped and we enjoyed cooking there and sitting around the dining table. It would be nice to have better window coverings at night for privacy and the house, while charming, was hard to heat sufficiently in the cold snap when we were there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay st this immaculate property. The property is an older home which has been restored. The bathrooms and kitchen have been beautifully updated. The surrounding areas have sidewalks for day and evening walks, and the location is close to Duke East campus and Trinity Park. There are many places to eat close by. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hope to return.

Lovely remodel of older home near East Campus
We enjoyed our stay thoroughly! The check in process was fast and easy, and the property owner communicated effectively. The home was clean and roomy. The upstairs bathroom is older and has not been remodeled yet, tho we didn't need it with our family of four.

Southern charmer
My son and I stayed at this charming craftsman while visiting my ailing parents. We loved the porch swing and high ceilings. Checkin was a breeze and the location was central to all we had to do.

Great stay. I will choose this home again.
This home was very clean and had all the supplies you may need, like a small Bluetooth speaker, air mattress, extra blanket. I didn’t expect that.
The owner was very responsive to my text.
We were in walking distance to one of the best wing spots I’ve experienced.
This is an older home and it was nice to read the history the owner left behind on the house.
Just note even though this is an older home all the bathrooms and kitchen were updated.
During the day neighbors where walking their dogs, jogging, and one playing his guitar on the front porch.
At night the neighborhood was very quiet.
The only concern some of us had was the long window at the front door is not covered. Some felt it should have a sheer in place.
I had a great girls weekend and this was a nice place to spend it.

Perfect location for a college visit or drop off! Walk to East Campus.
The location of this house made dropping off our daughter to college so much easier. She was able to walk from the dorms down to the house so that we could run errands. We were also close enough to walk and meet for coffee, or dinner. The owners were very attentive and kind. Great place!

Affordable Getaway
We stayed here for a week and had a lovely time! Beautiful and clean house - much appreciated during this pandemic. Easy communication over text w/ the owners! I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking to self-quarantine before seeing older family members. It is comfortable, well-kept, and peaceful. Easy to walk to East Campus and Whole Foods!

Fabulous cottage near 9th Street and Duke!
We spent Christmas week to be between families in Mebane and Cary. It was so cozy. We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas morning and small Christmas dinner gathering. The weather was unusually mild so we took full advantage of the bistro table on the porch along with the swing. Would definitely rent again.

Great place for Duke Visitors
Loved everything about the property. Location was perfect for Duke's East Campus and 9th Street in Durham. House was clean and well apportioned. Any parent, alum, friend or visitor to Duke or Durham will love this house!

Porch view
We loved this property. On the warm days and even through a thunderstorm we sat on that porch and read and watched the world go by. The kitchen is big with a large refrigerator, dishwasher and table that easily sits 6-7. The house is charming and for us was easy access to our kids, shopping and great restaurants on 9th street. And this place is clean and well stocked with everything you’ll need for cooking. Dylan is very quick to respond to any questions you may have. We can’t wait to rent this home again.

Great stay!
Our family came to town for a football game weekend. We found the home to be very spacious, with comfortable beds... and it was extremely clean! Lots of fresh towels and wash clothes were especially welcomed after a long day of hot tailgating. We would definitely stay here again. Also- loved being close to a Whole Foods and interesting restaurants.

Convenient to Revitalizing Durham
Property manager was easy to communicate with and clear about check in, check out, and house rules. The home was clean and is a good space for 3 adults, and is convenient for easy access to downtown Durham and 9th St restaurants and bars.
The space is private and nicely renovated, but we didn’t know until close to check in that there is a connected living space that is occupied, and requires guests to be more mindful of noise than if the home were completely separate from other occupied areas... would have been nice to know before we reserved the property. Also, while the AC worked fine downstairs during this last weekend’s hot weather (muggy 95 degree days), the AC units upstairs could not get the rooms cooled and dehumidified quite as well... perhaps simply the limits of cooling an older home in the middle of July in North Carolina. Also, while we never felt unsafe, there were people hanging out in the street half a block away from late afternoon until the early morning each evening.
All things considered, nice place to stay for a trip to check out Durham’s happenings.

Loved it!
Beautifully restored house close to Duke and downtown. I stayed with my children and two grandchildren and we wanted for nothing. Durham is bursting. We came for a family reunion and Full Frame, but primarily for a 90th birthday celebration. Having such a nice place to stay kicked a great trip into the sublime category.
