The exceptional 8-acre mountain top property (halfway between SF and LA) has two bedrooms, chef’s kitchen and a large, elegantly appointed bathroom. Indoor areas transition seamlessly into outdoor living and dining spaces through French doors and large windows. The large 500 square foot private deck provides a comfortable place to read, relax or dine (BBQ equipped) while taking in the commanding views.
Appointed with premium fixtures, furniture, amenities and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout. Complimentary onsite electric car (Tesla, etc) charging station. This dedicated vacation rental is professionally cleaned (fresh linens, towels, etc.) and a hotel quality experience awaits your arrival. Accommodates up to six guests, with four being ideal.
The grounds feature complimentary fresh eggs from the chicken coop and seasonal vegetables from our raised beds, gardens, koi pond, "Walter's" tortoise habitat and an incredible vista of wildlife, particularly birds and raptors who are at eye level.
We are on the famous Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy. 1). The coastal retreat halfway between LA and SF. Our road (Prefumo Canyon) turns into See Canyon and leads to Avila Beach. There is a short 15 minute scenic drive to downtown SLO (Thursday Night Farmer’s Market, restaurants, nightlife etc.) and beautiful Avila Beach (spectacular beach, pier, shops, wineries, etc). Famous Avila and Sycamore Mineral Springs offer a therapeutic experience in a group setting or privately in secluded tubs set amongst the tree-canopied hillside. You are in a serene and peaceful setting, but not too far from all the action!
Vista House is hard to leave once you arrive, with wonderful hikes, incredible natural surroundings and bountiful wildlife. Stock up at the Whole Foods, Sprouts or Costco at the bottom of the hill and settle in for a memorable experience!

This place is amazing there are no other words to describe it, beautiful house, scenery and a short drive to many beaches. Host and pups were absolute amazing and kind. The only bad thing about it was I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE. We are already planning our next trip.

We loved the deck views from Vista House, the comfort of the beds, huge rain and hand held shower, the nice kitchen, and the location being close to several activities.
Our dogs had plenty of places to walk and check out the chicken coop, the really cool tortoise Walter (that we fed and petted) with bags, scoop, trash easily accessible.
Ryan, the host, is upstairs in his unit with his awesome dogs Bourbon and Cider. We enjoyed our time with them all and got great tips like the dog friendly electric boat tour in Morro Bay; the dog beach area near Avila Beach, going to Pismo Beach, and the Harford Pier. Also Farmers Market in SLO which doesn't allow dogs in the market place but we were able to take turns checking out.
It was also convenient to have a dog gate for our deck. We have an older dog that likes to roam around. Parking was convenient.Weather was so nice: sunny some days, clouds and foggy mists others, gorgeous clouds rolling in the canyon, and a little chill that was perfect for bundling up and sleeping. Cozy blankets and chaises on the deck plus nice area to eat and another to enjoy the view with a book. We very much enjoyed our 6 nights visit.

Great host. Great dogs. Great tortoise named Walter. Comfortable stay. Very interesting area.

We took the kids to get out of the city, do a little wine tasting, and breathe fresh mountain air. The host was gracious and hospitable - our son played with his golden retrievers to his heart’s content. The property was amazing, and not too far from everything, just enough to make you really feel like you got away. We hope to return.

We very much enjoyed our stay and are amazed how great the location/view and room and Ryan and his family are!! Don’t know how to express and was like a dream. We will definitely come back again! Thank you.

We stayed only one night on our drive down the coast, but an amazing house with memorable sunset views of the entire coast and valley. Great host with clean, airy house and friendly golden retrievers! Highly recommend!

This place is beautiful and fully equipped, including comfortable beds and an amazing shower. It sits on the top of a mountain with the most stunning view. Ryan was a wonderful host.

Absolutely incredible! The views are stunning. Bourbon and Cider were excellent hosts. The place was immaculate and had everything we needed for our visit. This is a site we’d love to visit again.

We were truly blown away. We have never stayed anywhere like this, nor have I ever in my life seen views like this. I felt like I was in a treehouse on top of the world. My husband was in heaven, and my kids were mind blown at how awesome it was.
The host, Ryan, was professional, knowledgeable, and kind. He also has a good eye for design, because he created a very clean yet calming space that was peaceful. And his co-hosts, Bourbon & Cider, are so sweet, well-behaved and fun to be around! Absolutely memorable experience.

Our stay was just perfect. The view is absolutely stunning, the accommodations are perfect and. I must say the mattress was probably the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on. Plus the owner, Ryan, is amazing and so helpful. His dogs are just the cutest. You won’t regret staying here!

11/10 from the drive up to the drive down. The Drive up we were in awe, wondering where the F are we!? We showed up before sunset a few hours (make sure you time lapse this). We were greeted by Ryan, Bourbon and Cider, I had my giant Rottweiler Thor (And was welcomed with open arms, this does not always happen) and they all automatically got along great! Ryan was extremely friendly and super informative. It was a pleasure to sit down with Ryan and have a cup of coffee and see his amazing space he has created to share with the world.
If you’re looking for an adventure, do yourself a favor and book the Vista House. To sit above the clouds and look at Morro bay and the coast line there is nothing like it. It’s worth the few extra dollars to book this spot vs a hotel. You will not regret this at all.
Thank you Ryan, Bourbon and Cider for sharing your space with Viv, Thor and I. We will be back and look forward to cooking you a dinner 🙏

We enjoyed the quiet, space, and comfort of this lodging. Walter, the tortoise, and Cider+Bourbon, the dogs were fun housemates. The views of Morro Bay kept us enchanted day and night.

Our first trip with pup was a success! SLO is very dog friendly and of course Avila beach was perfect for the pup’s first intro to the ocean. Thank you Ryan for being such a gracious and fun host. We loved our morning breakfasts, cocktails and BBQ dinners on the patio. The sunsets were spectacular. Everything was really comfortable, especially the beds!

Looking for a quiet, mountain-top getaway with a spectacular view? This is the place for you. Ryan was a great host. The house offers modern amenities and an easy check-in and check-out process. Highly recommended. And we love Cider and Bourbon!

We stayed for two days in June. House was clean and had everything we could have possibly needed. Ryan was easy to work with, helpful and accommodating. Views were amazing. We had an extremely relaxing and peaceful time.
10.0
A steep, narrow, winding road takes you 5 miles up the canyon to the view that makes it worthwhile. Take the owners advice and buy food before coming up. You won’t want to leave. Grill on the deck while enjoying the view. Apartment is nice with big bathroom and gourmet kitchen. Ryan, the human host is helpful. Bourbon and Cider, the canine hosts, are charming. Our pup liked playing with them.

We were 2 couples and we had an amazing stay here. Ryan was a very welcoming host, as were the dogs!
The house was very clean and included all amenities.
The views were simply outstanding, especially sunset! Unfortunately it was too misty to see the sunrise.
This was a perfect 3 night stop on our way up the coast.
Highly recommended and would definitely return.

Perfect place to detox from everyday life and re-center. Ryan was the ultimate host who provided excellent recommendations on places to visit and eat. We really enjoyed his company along with Bourbon, Cider and Walter the tortoise.

Awesome location for getting away from the hustle and bustle of life. Stunning views and fantastic customer service. Ideal central location for visiting Pismo/Bispo area, but enough removed up in the hills to feel like you’ve escaped society. Perfect for couples, friends or family.

Ryan Cider and Bourbon met us as we parked. My dog Arthur quickly befriended the other 2 dogs. Ryan greeted us and showed us around the grounds and house. The views are spectacular. The house itself is tastefully furnished and items are clearly labeled. Amenities are top-notch and well thought out. There are multiple spices, coffee and cooking oil. The beds are extremely comfortable and we sleep soundly. We did not want to leave the house!! I enjoyed meeting the tortoise and viewing the koi pot. There is a black marble bench engraved with photos of the dogs and birthdates. The whole house emanated a quiet joy, order and kindness. We played with the dogs and had a very relaxing day and it seemed like we were in heaven the whole time. I cannot say enough about our stay there; it was simply extraordinary. We can’t wait to return!

A beautiful view and comfortable stay for our group.
10.0
A wonderful, relaxing return visit for us. It met and exceeded our expectations. As host, Ryan is perfect. His 2 sidekicks, Bourbon and Cider were too. One of our dogs and both humans loved playing with them. The place is understatedly well decorated and comfortable. The huge front porch overlooking the view of the hill, and Morro Rock in the distance when clear, as it was for us. The sunrise and sunsets both were beautiful. The location is great for just relaxing and enjoying the view and sounds of hilltop living, but it’s close to a wide variety of things to do. We returned to places we’d enjoyed before and explored new places as well. Among them, the town and pier in Morro Bay, including the Rock of course, and lots of sea otters; Avila, Shell and Pismo Beach; the dog beach at Port San Luis; stunningly beautiful Montana de Oro State Park.
P.S. The drive up and down the hill (mountain) is breathtaking every time. Don’t be in a rush, take time to fully enjoy it. It’s part of the experience.

The reviews and description are right! You don't want to leave this place. We only stayed one night but wish we booked two! The views are amazing, such a peaceful environment. Beds were very comfy and oh my the sheets! I wanted to take them home ;)
Pups were very friendly and loved to play fetch. Ryan was friendly, welcoming and one of those host you want to hang and drink a beer with. Hopefully we'll be back soon!

We had a very relaxing, peaceful stay at Vista House. Ryan was a great host who greeted us when we arrived, showed us the ropes and was easy to communicate with and super responsive.
THE VIEWS are what may bring me back here again one day. Waking up in the morning with a book and a cup of coffee, and sitting out on the patio overlooking the rolling hills was just so relaxing and peaceful for my soul.
The beds were very comfortable and the sheets felt luxurious. The bathroom was huge and the rain shower was just "extra"....I loved it.
I intend to return with friends the next time I need a quiet, relaxing getaway, only a few minutes drive from good food and wine. I highly recommend this place!

This perfectly appointed and comfortable flat has a spectacular view and everything you could possibly want. Ryan, Bourbon, Coder and Walter the tortoise make great hosts. Ryan can tell you all about the area but you may not want to budge from the chaise on the porch. Too beautiful and peaceful.
Soon back.

Beautiful views, luxuries beds and bathroom. I almost didn't want to share so that it is available when I want to stay. Ryan has thought of everything a guest could need; I couldn't ask for anything more.

We cannot say enough about this property. First off, the views are amazing. You have a 180 view of the Irish Hills and a private patio to enjoy them. So peaceful and lovely it makes you never want to leave. The house was super clean and the beds were very comfortable…and I am super picky about both of these things. Ryan, Bourbon, and Cider were great hosts! Ryan is so friendly and accommodating and gave us great suggestions on where to go with our dog. Bourbon and Cider greeted us every day and our daughter loved playing with them. This was truly a one of a kind experience and we will definitely be back again!

Had a lovely time here. The space was ample for the 4 of us and the views are stunning. The kind of place a camera just can’t do justice. We enjoyed playing with the dogs and chatting with owner. Highly recommend

Be sure you want to be out of the city.
20 minute beautiful mountain drive on small roads to get in and out of the canyon.
We recommend occasional trips.
It’s nice to stay put.

Dreaming of Prefumo Canyon and the views that it gifted to us. Stay here if these experiences are important to you:
-Natural beauty
-comfortable bed
-Peace and quiet
-good water pressure and hot water
-One of the most beautiful views we have stayed at in all our travels (top 5 for sure)
Will hopefully stay here again in the future when we move back to CA. Ryan was helpful, open and very kind. Bourbon and Cider made the whole experience that much better.

We spent Thanksgiving here and had an amazing time! Cooked a full Thanksgiving meal and had EVERYTHING we needed in the kitchen. Seeing Morro Rock with our morning coffee was exactly what we all needed! Ryan, along with Bourbon and Cider, met us when we arrived, dogs in tow. Ryan welcomed us and let us know that “dogs come first” and he truly meant it. When we let him know we were leaving for a few hours, he even offered to come and check on our puppies. We felt right at home and were able to relax and truly count our blessings.
