About this cabin rental
Cabin on 45 acres part of which is an active Christmas Tree Farm and the rest is wooded mountain. The property is bucolic, featuring an old barn, seasonal mountain stream and pond. Beautiful views of the Green Mountains. There is a fire pit w. plenty of wood and tongs for roasting marshmallows. Ideal for hiking, snowshoeing then relaxing by cozy new wood stove in the great room. Or relax in one of the hammocks listening to the creek meander by. We now have goats, chickens, rabbits, ducks and guinea hens. The chickens free range- Pets allowed in a case by case basis. All dogs must be on leash whenever outside.
A new covered rear porch has a swing and great views of the pond , trees and mountain .

We very much enjoyed our stay at Sue’s “cabin.” It’s set in a beautiful valley, surrounded by Vermont’s Green Mountains. Bennington is about a 15 minute drive, where there are interesting museums and monuments—and the standard and useful stores. It’s a college town, and so has a number of excellent restaurants and bars.
The house itself appears to have been enlarged a few times, so its layout is a bit quirky. You will enter into its dining-kitchen area, with a beautiful and comfortable living room to the right. To its right is the bedroom, entirely comfortable for a stay. (The quite adequate bathroom is to the left of the kitchen.) To our surprise, perhaps our favorite area was “the nook,” a sleeping area for two, elevated off the dining room. It’s got a great mattress, and a big window that lets in a great breeze on our summer evenings. (That window has a blackout curtain if you want to sleep better after sunrise.)
One thing to note: both the bedroom and the bathroom are a step down from the cabin’s main area, which might be a problem for a person with mobility issues.
The cabin is a bit off the beaten track, but a lovely place to stay for a New England vacation.

We loved our trip. We all live on or are around farms and the animals made us feel like home!

My husband and I came to Shaftsbury VT hoping to see covered bridges, putter through shops and visit a sugar house to see maple syrup being made. Instead we were mostly restricted by the weather, choosing to hunker down in the cozy farmhouse for most of Saturday. The snow was beautiful, as was the farm. While the trip wasn't what we had planned, we enjoyed relaxing in such a scenic home. (I absolutely loved the bed in the kitchen!!!!)

This is our second stay at the cabin and we loved it just as much this year. The property is very unique, and the level of interaction you get to have with the animals is great. My kids (6 and 8) spent virtually the entire time we were there wandering around with goats and checking for chicken eggs. The host is very responsive and the cabin itself is quite cozy. We will undoubtedly be back!

Quintessential VT autumn experience

While the setting was remote and beautiful, we were a little disappointed in the overall experience. We were really looking forward to hanging out with the “free-roaming” farm animals, but they were not let out of their confinement until almost noon both mornings we were at the property. We enjoyed sleeping in the little bed in the kitchen and being serenaded to sleep by the coyotes and the owls, but overall the property could use some love and attention, especially for the cost of our stay.

My husband and I decided that we just wanted to go on a vacation where we could disconnect and do some writing every day. So we picked Vermont and to stay on this farm, and it was a nice vibe! We enjoyed watching the chickens and goats. The house itself felt pretty spacious. It was hot (went early July), but we mostly wrote in the morning, and decided to leave the house most afternoons to go to nearby Bennington or other small-town attractions, so we avoided the worst of the humidity and heat most days (there's only one window unit air conditioner in the downstairs bedroom). We had trouble with the washer, but it wasn't a big deal, and Susan helped us resolve the issue during our stay. Enjoyed falling asleep to the sounds of the small waterfall feeding the pond in the backyard at night. Overall, it's good if you want an escape from any hustle and bustle.

Loved our stay at the cabin with our two cats. Property was clean and very well equipped. We had a great time exploring the forest behind the cabin and hanging out with the chickens on the porch.

We all enjoyed our stay. Our son loved the animals especially their rooster that was very gentle and let Dylan hold him. The goats were precious. Beautiful surroundings. I was able to cook a ham, turkey and prime rib in the oven with no issues. We loved being so close to nature.

The house was charming, well-stocked, and bigger than it seemed in photos. The property overall was beautiful. Got to meet the goats and chickens, and explored the trails behind the house/farm. Downtown Bennington is close enough, but this house is perfect for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Quintessential Vermont is right! We enjoyed our stay here lots. All four of us found the downstairs beds very comfortable and well-kept. If you're looking for the Waldorf Astoria, keep looking – this cabin is unapologetically country and charming as such. It was very well stocked and even included a hand-made map for hiking and exploring. The owner was easily accessible if needed, the included instructions were perhaps too-thorough but useful and showed deep care for visitors. I have lots of experiences with wood stoves – this one is tricky to get the hang of, but fantastic once it's going. A great weekend escape - thank you.

This property is gorgeous. We so enjoyed walking the trails and drinking in the amazing colorful views. The animals were delightful. The cottage has lots of quirky charm but at this point in its life, it suffers from neglect. The small kitchen was fine and well-equipped. But the bathroom is unacceptable.

Pictures don't always tell the tale. We were taken back by the condition of the cabin for the price that we paid, and the smell was very musty. We left Sunday very early and did not sleep in the beds.
We would have left on Saturday, but my wife was meeting a friend in Albany. Sorry, but that's the way we feel.

This place is a great getaway.
This place is peaceful - the covered back deck is incredibly nice, and it's a great place to eat, and look out over the tree covered hills in the back of the house.
Early morning walks are highly recommended - we saw at least 6 deer every morning, as well as hawks and other wildlife.
The folks working the farm are also great, and the hosts are caring and responsive. This was a great place for a getaway.

The cabin’s property and Ananias roaming the yard were pretty funny and cool. The cabin itself was a bit dirty and grimy, specially the kitchen and bathroom. The one AC in the main bedroom barely could keep the room comfortably cool at night. If the place was cleaner we would definitely come back.

We had a great time here at this house. It was really beautiful on the farm, and we even got some fresh eggs from the caretaker! It was cool at night and I loved the sleeping nook.
It was hard for me to climb the stairs to the loft area - but my son loved it up there. Some small things could be updated (the bathroom sink leaks and is hard to turn off) and some of the pots and pans were not very clean. But other than that, it was a great place for a long weekend. Loved the area and the drive in had beautiful views as well. :-) we would go back.

We had a lovely, peaceful, relaxing stay in Shaftsbury! Spent a lot of time on the outdoor patio watching the weather, the chickens and the greenery!

We had a too-short but very restful summer stay (4 nights). The farmhouse is comfortable and homey as a fancier place would not be. and the grounds are expansive and pretty. The fairly free-range chickens, goats, some ducks underscore that this is a working farm in the nicest way (even for us city folk). For my wife and I, there was ample space, as the farmhouse is (for a not-large building) classically rambling and there is also a small patio perfect for watching the sun go down over the mountain and sitting down for the dinner we grilled outside. The owner was also readily available by phone/text, and flexible -including as proved important, a COVID-related re-schedule. All in all, highly recommended!

very private and rural; some minor fixes should be made to the place: bathroom sink is loose

Ultimate Peaceful Spot
This was just what our busy family needed. The quaint old farmhouse with breathtaking views was more spacious than expected, yet had a warm and cozy feel. The kitchen nook was my daughters favorite spot and mine was the back porch swing. The animals were adorable and so fun to watch and the property was full of places to explore. We had planned several outings in the surrounding area but ended up spending most of our time wandering the property and taking in the beauty around us.

A slice of heaven
We had an excellent stay - and didn't want to leave. The property is amazing! It is beautiful and all the animals are an added bonus. The cabin is cozy, but there is plenty of room. It is the perfect place to unplug and enjoy time with family. Susan & Gus are wonderful hosts. We will most certainly return.

Clean cute farmhouse
The house was an older farmhouse. Well taken care of and very clean. The animals were an added bonus. The baby goats thought they were lap dogs. The atmosphere was tranquil and relaxing. Susan was very accommodating and checked with us to make sure all was good. We loved our time there.

Wonderful Family Vacation on the Farm
Everyone on the farm including the owners (Susan & Gus), the animal caretakers and the animals themselves (goats, chickens, roosters, ducks & bunnies) were lovely and hospitable. We truly enjoyed our stay in this cozy house and beautiful backyard ( animals, stream, pond & firepit). The kids were so sad to go, and cannot wait to return!!

Lovely stay with friends
A group of five of my friends and myself stayed at this lovely house a couple of weeks ago and we absolutely loved it! The property and home were gorgeous and it was such a treat to say "hello" to the goats and chickens each morning. Highly recommend and will be booking again!

Our peaceful, snowy VT getaway
My family absolutely loved our stay on this adorable, quintessential Vermont property. The scenic, snowy mountain landscape with the Christmas trees was the perfect backdrop for our peaceful weekend getaway. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The owners supplied plenty of fire wood for us to make the house cozy warm using the wood stove. The beds were comfy and the kitchen was stocked with pots, pans, necessary utensils, coffee maker (essential for us!) and toaster. We spent much of our time hiking the property (it was so beautiful) and visiting with the goats and ducks. We would definitely stay here again in the future!

Great spot in back country Vermont
This was an amazing property which is in real country. I live in rural Maine so I know the real thing. We loved the animals, the brook, the mountain and the quiet. I must admit that the dirt roads in Vermont are far superior to the poorly paved back roads in Maine.

Our Happy Place
This gem of an oasis is quickly becoming our home away from home. We visited last summer in our desperate need to get away from the city, arrived and instantly fell in love. We extended our stay while we were there and even that was too short. This year we booked for longer and again, extended our stay! Luckily, we were able.
This simple, no frills house is just what our family of 3 needs. The sleep nook is my teens fave. The outdoor shower is mine. And the happy hammock by the stream is all of ours. The kitchen is tight, but we deal. The animals are delightful and bring us endless joy. The backyard with the pond, ducks, xmas trees, shady spots, and hiking trail is all we need for body, mind and soul soothing. You never have to leave the property. You never want to! We certainly didn't!

Idyllic getaway
Lovely outdoor setting, rippling brook and pond, farm animals, Adirondack chairs and benches, a trail into woods, beautiful trees. The cabin was well-furnished with amenities. Unfortunately, the washer didn't work, not ideal for a family with two toddlers.

I recently spent a weekend with a few friends at Susan's property and could not have asked for a better escape. The property is beautiful, the house is cozy, and Susan was the perfect host.We spent the weekend unplugged from technology (very limited cell service, but wifi is available), sitting around the outdoor bonfire, hiking the grounds, and spending time with the friendly chickens and goats that roam the property. The goats are so friendly they follow you around waiting to be pet!Overall a great experience and I highly recommend spending a weekend (or longer) with Susan.
