This house needs a really bad deep cleaning. There are spider webs and dead bugs everywhere. We made the owner aware and they wanted to send the cleaners in after we checked in and we were not comfortable with that. Nice location but needs ALOT of tlc and cleaning. Deep cleaning.

We loved our stay at this property. The house and yard were spacious. We loved the view of the cove and the use of the dock for our boat. The only down side was the abundance of jellyfish, which prevented the kids from playing in the water, but that's hardly a fault of the rental, just nature. They still enjoyed crabbing and boating. We definitely want to stay again.

The house was older but the deck and location are excellent. Since there is only one bed on the first floor all others would have to stay in the finished attic space accessed via very narrow stairs. All amenities are fine and nothing was broken. Check-in was really easy. The dock is a bit wobbly. I chose to launch my kayak from the town ramp adjacent to the town beach parking lot.

This cottage is in a great location. Minutes from the beaches in Charlestown. The view from the very large deck was beautiful, gorgeous sunrise and nice and shady in the afternoon after a good day at the beach. We found the home to be very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed for the little cooking that we did. Coffee pot, toaster, small microwave, pots, pans, utensils, grilling tools, etc.. The water pressure in the shower was great and the water was certainly hot, ( this was a biggie for me), outdoor shower was also a plus, could use a good scrubbing but is very spacious. Quiet neighborhood. We had a great week, the weather was on our side. Julie was quick to answer any questions we had. All that being said, this house is very dated and and in need of some TLC. I feel like the pictures are from several years past. It definitely has a beach "cottage" feel to it, so if you like "vintage" this may work as a rental for you . If you are looking for high end, this is not the place. Please note that there are no pictures of the bathrooms or kitchen. There is one bedroom on the first floor, the only cooling options are window fans for both that bedroom and the entire first floor. The second floor is one large bedroom, as it states in the description, so be aware that there is limited privacy on the second floor. Also the second floor bath (a tub no shower) has no door, only a pull curtain, so again very limited privacy. It was just my husband and I so this was not a problem for us but if you were there with a family. it could prove to be a challenge. Please note that the log in for the internet is on the refrigerator, not the one in the email provided from VRBO which created some unnecessary frustration. Just a note that the water is brackish and not for swimming in my estimation. If you rent this house, do it for the location.

We chose this house based on the location, and because it had a nice deck looking out on the water. Those features were important to us, and we had a great week. Host Julie was responsive and very nice. That said, if the inside of the house is important to you this may not be the place. The house is in need of lots of TLC: screens are missing or broken including those that lead to the deck; the furniture is very old and stained; water pools in the outside shower as the floor is not graded to drain; and there is lots of mold and dirt on the house siding inside the outdoor shower. The upstairs layout could also be a challenge. It is one open room with three beds, as listed, but also has a bathroom with no door. This worked for us, but would not have worked if we brought adolescent kids with us. There is also no beach pass, so you either have to walk the .6 miles each way, or as the owner suggests drive everyone in your party and then just the driver walks back. For about $30 the owners could provide a pass, as we have had in other area rentals.

If this property was a quarter of the price I would have no gripes. Having been staying at cottages on the water in this area for approximately 10 years I can safely say I know what your money should get you. I was invited in a near by neighboring house this week only because the people wanted to show me how nice their rental place was and how bad I got taken. Which I already knew. They paid very close to the same as us and it is typical what we normally pay. This cottage is very worn down. The kitchen is probably an 80 year old set of crudely built and now unmaintained cabinets for a cabin. The kitchen floor wore through the finish probably 20 years ago. Our family owns several apartment houses and with this background I don’t know how they even get insurance on this rental. There are ceiling lights that you have to follow the extension cord along the ceiling to figure out how to turn on. In one of the bedrooms there is a torn open heat register that will leave you in need of stitches if you get off the bed quickly. There are many many issues that the owners conveniently don’t have depicted in any online photos. Unfortunately, this is what can happen when booking a vacation online, you don’t get the whole picture.

I rented this cottage on Allen Cove during my first visit to Charlestown Beach where I was meeting extended family. I was traveling with my 14 year old son, my 14 year old nephew and my 10 year old daughter. I rented a small boat from Ocean House Marina for the week so my son and nephew could have some freedom to explore the area. The views are really calming and we enjoyed many hours sitting in the yard under the tree looking out onto the water. The 1930’s cottage is very rustic and basic but has what I needed and enough charm that I didn’t miss being in an updated property. The house had been VERY thoroughly cleaned on arrival. It has updated windows, an outdoor shower, good water pressure inside and a huge back deck with an oversized table. We didn’t grill or eat here but it would be perfect for a large gathering of guests joining you for the day or evening. Owner Julie was accommodating with questions and/or needs. I was coming from Florida by plane so I used Vacation House Linen & Towel Rentals for our sheets, pillowcases, bath towels and beach equipment and they were excellent to work with. I have a child with allergies and usually travel with giant ziplock bags to place down feather pillows and comforters inside during our hotel or home stays. There were feather pillows there during my stay, but I just set them all aside. I did a day trip to the Newport Mansions and also visited the Umbrella Factory and loved both of those excursions. We ate at The Cove one night and got take out from Charlestown Famous Pizza and those were good.
