About this house rental
Kiawah Island Business License # RBL19-005654
Welcome to the Raynor House so named after legendary pirate Captain George Raynor who owned and roamed Kiawah Island in the 17th Century. Captain Raynor anchored two ships on the island from which he would pillage and plunder the Carolina coast. Just as the pirates of yore commandeered priceless bounties from others, we hope you will get a steal on this fabulous vacation home aggressively priced to be the best deal in town in the luxury class. The Raynor House is located on arguably the most prestigious street in all of Kiawah behind what the locals term, “the second gate.” Many families enjoy the kids camp and nature programs at the Night Heron Park.
We are pleased to offer the Raynor House for vacation rentals and are confident that you will not find a better place to enjoy the charm, mysticism and natural delights of the Island while taking in the unique and indelible history dating back hundreds of years inclusive of a one-of-a-kind cast of characters ranging from Native Americans, British settlors and occupiers, Pirates (lots of Pirates), Plantation owners and even Union invaders to modern day host of the PGA Championship. This house has been completely remodeled inside and out/head-to-toe and we hope y’all will appreciate the work that has been done across the estate to capture the essence of an Antebellum southern home surrounded by island breeziness.
From the outside as you approach the elegant entrance to the home from an oak and palm lined driveway you will be instantly enamored with the southern charm, seaside colors and wide-swept front porch. Once inside, we hope you will enjoy the new hardwood flooring, vaulted ceilings and stunning windows which flow together from room to room like a symphony. The bright and open design was structured so as to let the island history surround and breathe through the home. When in this home we trust you will feel like you have been transported to another time and another place in the most glorious and relaxed of fashions. To help you soak it all in, please take some time to enjoy the loungers on the back porch and inhale the priceless view of the gorgeous and undeveloped, as the locals call it, Pirate Cove or Wally (think Gator) Pond. From the porch the genius of the understated elegance of the Raynor House is best understood as the home seemingly melts into the landscape of the incomparable low country vistas. Watch for the ripples on the water to let you know when your gator friends are in the neighborhood.
The Raynor House was professionally decorated with all new furniture and accoutrements from Restoration Hardware. The designer set out to form a collaboration of coastal pieces and modern day luxuries and convenience while staying true to the island heritage ensconced in the local environment. As a result, you will have all Viking appliances and sleep in comfort pillowtop beds. This is a large, comfortable home with privacy in all four of the bedrooms. This immaculate home comes with fresh paint, hardwood flooring, countertops, fixtures, furniture and five 50+ inch TVs and an XBOX 360 game system with some of todays most popular games located in the kids room. We trust your stay will be enhanced with the finest linens and a full complement of kitchen supplies and utensils. The estate also has something Captain Raynor could not have pillaged from all the ships on the all the seas…. Wi-Fi.
The four bedrooms are classically acquainted to provide warmth, light and space; each of the four bedrooms has been professionally festooned including a room themed for the Buccaneer in each of us complete with a local treasure map. Step into the master suite and you will be greeted by flowing draperies and window dressings leading to a lovely balcony overlooking Pirate Cove. This room features not only luxury bedding, but also an ensuite bathroom, including a standalone bath and walk-in shower with relaxation comfort bench.
As much as we love the home, if you are on the Island, you need to experience all it has to offer and you will be centrally located to do that as the Raynor House lies in the heart of this coastal paradise. Perhaps the first thing you should do is walk to the beach. Don’t worry, it is a short walk, less than a thousand steps across a beautiful path straight to the sand. Or, you can bike across the island exploring all the wonderful natural beauty, boutiques and eateries. For sure you should explore Night Heron Park and take in one of the festivals or simply smile at the clowns and jugglers. Of course, we suspect you might be interested in golfing. Fret not, you are minutes away from the many world class courses that proudly call Kiawah home. We do no not need to go into detail as Kiawah is, quite simply, golf mecca.
Thank you for looking at the Raynor House. We would love to host you for a stay and please don’t worry…. except for the friendly variety, we guarantee the Villa is 100% Ghost Free.

Location of property was great and the area was very nice. The open floor plan was great. However, the property needs some updating and some major TLC. Outside deck had some rotten boards and could use some paint. The living area had some signs of water damage to the ceiling. The door knobs on the closet doors were loose and need replaced. The beds were very uncomfortable. The overall description seemed a bit misleading as it pertained to 4 full baths. I was overall disappointed with property. I would not stay here again and would not recommend to anyone.

Loved our visit to Kiawah Island with this stunning home to stay in. Tons of space, clean, updated, great floor plan and a perfect deck. The kitchen was very well equipped. We love this house and hope to rent it again.

The location is wonderful! The house could most definitely use attention. The house just felt heavily rented as the furniture needs to be replaced, the beds and mattress were old and I hate to say it,but also needs to be treated for bugs. Yes, you are in the low country but there were water bugs in bathrooms and in beds. The hot water wasn’t working in one of the rooms also. The house and the furnishings were great at one time but they are beyond need of replacement. There are several repairs and leaks that need to be fixed and there was silver duct tape holding a piece of flooring down in the bathroom. Spider webs in almost every corner inside the house. Was just shocked at condition of house in such prestigious neighborhood.

Everything was perfect and the host was beyond accommodating. Perfect house and location!

We enjoyed the large well stocked kitchen and spaciousness of the home and appreciated the beach supplies.
The home in general needs some attention. Doors and windows are difficult to open and close, beds are super squeaky, disturbingly so. Dishwasher only worked on short cycle, I called the number to ask for repair and didn’t get a call back. TV in master didn’t work but they reported that to us ahead of time. And more washcloths for sure, the linen pack on our bed had two towels (which is fine), one hand towel, and one wash cloth. All the packs for a party of 9 had one wash cloth, for the whole weekend. The house was hot when we arrived, it took hours for it to cool down. It would be far better not to ask the guests to turn everything off, but to leave the nest on a comfortable temp. The VRBO was nice, but attention to a few things and it would have been ideal.

I was impressed at this property in Kiawah. Everything was smooth from the contract, to the arrival instructions to the communication of getting in the gate.
The house was in great shape and the pictures were a great representation of what the property was actually like.
The great room/family room was huge and inviting. Overall the three of us staying there couldn’t have been more pleased.

The home is as described. Has everything you need and more. Had a few maintenance issues but the communication was top-tier and they came out immediately to resolve. Would definitely stay again.

The house was amazing! We were able to truly enjoy ourselves because everything was there! We were able to bike around the neighborhood and to the beach with the bikes provided and slept great in the beds!
We enjoyed a day of golf, the courses were perfect, and then relaxed after outside on the back deck with such a beautiful view. Saw some gators!
We will be coming back for sure. Thank you!

We absolutely loved our stay on Kiawah Island and this house was a large part of that enjoyment. Beautifully updated with a fully-stocked kitchen (everything you need to cook!) and lots of room for a family to make themselves at home. The back deck was a favorite spot for gator watching and we saw deer all over the island.

This house was perfect! Couldn’t ask for much more. Saw alligators every morning. Eagles, cardinals, deer and squirrels. Absolutely amazing weather, no bugs. Couldn’t be happier with the home and the island.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. The property managers were VERY responsive. The house had some very nice high-end details, like sheets, linens, a Dyson hair dryer, and lots of beach towels. The kitchen was well equipped. The Viking refrigerator was not great. The ice maker had issues and the food was freezing. The property managers promptly purchased a Brita water pitcher for us.
The couches are very big and deep, which we loved. They are for lounging. The big open room connected to the kitchen and gave us plenty of room with lots of light.
The property manager honored our request to lower the AC. It was still warm upstairs.
The mattresses need to be replaced on the three larger beds. We did not use the bed in the children's room. The house also needs some pull-down blinds in the MBR bathroom.
The view of the water was great. We spotted several alligators. We would have felt better if there was a closed-in railing enclosing the deck area. We did not spend a lot of time on deck due to the toddlers. If it was closed in with proper railings it would have been usable.

The Raynor house is a beautiful home located in a quiet and beautiful natural area. The deck is a great place to relax and we did see an alligator in the lagoon. Lots of birds and beautiful landscaping. House was well equipped with all of the amenities we needed and kitchen was well supplied. Great place for family getaway. We has a relaxing time spent enjoying nature and just a short walk to the beach.

We held a sales meeting/team building event at this home. Location on the water with a nicely laid out backyard. House / parking accommodated enough people to do this, and we were very pleased with our experience!

This was the perfect house for a girls getaway weekend! The beds were comfortable, the house clean and spacious, the view from the porch was perfect and the kitchen was well equipped. The property manager got back to us very quickly when we had locked ourselves out - thank goodness! Will definitely be coming back next year!

Girls' trip for 10 of us, and this was a perfect place to stay! Beautiful house and even better back porch where we could see jumping fish and alligators in the water! We loved our time here.

I wanted to let you know how disappointed I was in the property and embarrassed in front of my friends. For weeks the property manager kept telling me how the HOA was a stickler for the rules and parking in the garage to prevent additional fees for braking the rules. For the amount per night, I expected more. Upon arriving to the property, the first two guest couldn’t park their vehicles in the garage due to all of the ply wood, rusted beach supplies and ill placed trash cans. It took us 45 minutes to move the things in the garage to allow us to park the two vehicles in and be able to close the doors. Upon moving the things in the garage, large spiders, roaches and lizards were coming from everywhere. Once we finally entered the property, I was disgusted to find bugs in the ice tray, bugs in the linen, BUGS, FOOD and HAIR in the made beds, MOLD. The refrigerator not maintaining an appropriate temp.
I texted the manager Friday when I arrived about the garage and never received a response. I will be making a formal complaint and review of the property.
I really wanted my 50th birthday to be spectacular at your advertised property but the property needs major help. I wouldn’t want anyone else to pay what I paid per night for what I experienced.
Two of my quest left early because the couldn’t tolerate the roaches in the upstairs bedrooms. I was soooooo embarrassed and upset.
I have pictures of the mold, bugs crawling on the walls, beds and linen and bugs in the ice tray in the freezer. I’m still awaiting a response from the property manager.

Needs updating
The house itself was in a good location, the house needs some TLC and updating. We have children that like to fall asleep with the TV , especially in a strange house. The only TV that actually worked was the downstairs living room TV even though the houses boasts TV in every room. The outlets in the house are all broken and spark. They are the type of outlets that the plugs fall out of so there is no way to use the outlet, we were all fighting over one bathroom to dry our hair because it was the only working outlet. The lights in the house are super dim, very difficult to get dressed or put on makeup or see anything, the upstairs bathroom needs major renovations, tile is being held down with tape and the shower door hardly opens & closes looks like it’s going to break any second. Our stay was very short so it was manageable but it is not a property we would look to rent in the future.

Great house for two families on the beautiful marsh
The house is as billed. The only thing I would add to this house is an ice maker. Two ice cube trays just don’t cut it!

Perfect
Perfect place to stay on the Island.
Great location. 2 blocks from beach. Center of island in tree lined neighborhood. House was perfect for any combination of 2 to 10. First 3 days just wife and me. Stayed downstairs in master suite. Adult children with spouses arrived day 4-6. They took the upstairs rooms. Perfect layout of bedrooms. Downstairs was spacious and warm. Will definitely rebook

Property in need of up grading
Generally clean, kitchen well stocked. Garage not usable because hurricane wood shutters wouldn't allow car to fit. A/C malfunctioned all second night being so loud that it kept us awake. We solved by finding breaker and turning off. the next morning. A/C tried to cycle. We had the system heat and A/C off but AC tried to turn on with a loud thumping.. Called Jenny and she tried to have heating people out they did not come. Beacuse weather was ideal we didn't need A/C so we left breaker off for stay.
Beds were uncomfortable, lumpy and when sitting into bed and moving in bed it caused loud squeaking.. These need replacing.
Couches were not designed to sit and talk with others. Seats were too deep unless you are 7 ft tall. These need replacing.
Overall lighting in living room was terrible two choices dim or super bright. Not at all conducive to reading since no floor lamps.
Decks were filthy and we found some brooms and cleaned.
View beautiful and enjoyed seeing gator daily but windows filthy and some fogged enough to effect view.
Would not rent again.

House needs some updating
Spacious house that just needs some attention. Lights were missing or out. Ceiling fan didn't work. Door knob fell off. Smoke detector beeped due to ow battery and took 2 days to get it fixed. Ice maker in fridge did not work. Switch plates on plugs were so thick that "device" plugs would not stay in. All just little things that added up. The property manager was very responsive but miscommunications delayed action. On the plus side.......It is big, has a fairly good kitchen. Nice primary bedroom, but the others were a little shabby. We got a very good rate though, and it was adequate for our little group.

Old friends
Very easy to follow the instructions sent to me very efficient and easy. Only constructive criticism I have is there are two steps down into the living room the steps are the same color as the floor easy for older people to miss. We had one mishap no major injury. May consider a strip on the stairs making them easier to see Overall a great experience. Thank you very much

Would've Loved to Stay Longer
Beautiful home, beautiful location. The full kitchen was amazing, the added touch of the dress up clothes in the pirate treasure chest was a huge bonus for my four year old! The only issues we had are that the room's switches were not working properly so we could not turn on the lights at night; I tried contacting the property manager and never heard back. The policy of turning the AC/Heat off after each guest meant it was more than 6 hours before the inside temp was above 50 degrees (this was January and it was freezing). Lastly, the cleaning fee was quite excessive.

I have to say that we were at peace in this beautiful home. Even though our stay was short, I can truly say it was an amazing 4 day retreat and relaxation. Gorgeous home! The minute we walked through the door we were happy. 😃

Excellent stay on Kiawah
This was a long anticipated reunion of four high school/college couples. Cancelled last year, we really enjoyed this chance to re-connect in person. The Vanderhorst Plantation was the perfect place. We enjoyed walks on the beach, the great restaurants of Charleston, and a round of golf at Turtle Point.

Nice Property/Great Location/NEEDS TLC & MAINTENANCE
Overall the house has tons of space for multiple people and was decorated and outfitted nicely. You can't go wrong with staying on Kiawah and the location of the house in relation to the beach was great, just a short walk. In general, this house would be a top-rated place to stay, if and when the rental/management company invests some time and money into simple maintenance related items. The following summary list was communicated to the property manager, but due to either miss-communications or issues with contractors, these were not addressed during our stay.
- No rear outside lights on the house were working. There are at least (5) recessed lights and every bulb was out, which made enjoying the deck area at night tough.
- There were several interior lights out inside the house, specifically in a bathroom.
- The gutters on the porch were clogged and missing and end cap so during the heavy rain events the gutters backed-up and caused the running rain water to hit the dinning room window to a point where water leaked inside.
- Kitchen sink faucet - this unit needs to be completely taken apart and put back together and/or replaced. This has been noted on previous reviews.
- Bicycle Tires - at least one bike needs new tires, the others we made due with, just had to make sure that there was air in them!
- Living Room Power - when we arrived at the house, there was no power/lighting in the living room area due to a tripped circuit breaker, not a big deal, just had to reset it.

Will come back again
