We are located in the little-known neighborhood of Truxton Circle. Located within the happening neighborhood of Shaw in the heart of Washington, DC, you will enjoy quick and easy access to all that the city has to offer. As avid travelers and one-time BnB hosts years ago, we set out to create a space that is comfortable, pleasing to the senses, and equipped with the kinds of things that we ourselves like to enjoy when we travel for work or for pleasure, including quality bedding, private laundry facilities, and furnishing that don't all come from Sweden. (OK, we may have let one piece sneak in!)
The 800 sq ft (73 sq m) apartment is an English basement that feels like a home. The apartment has its own private entrance. We live upstairs so you get the kind of extra care found with properties that are owner occupied.
Stuff You Will Love:
SUPER FAST WIFI: Zip around the internet on ultra high speed internet that works at 70-170 mbps. Great for business travelers, Facetime or S.K.Y.P.E. calls, and streaming Netflix/video.
GOOD SLEEPING: Sleep is important, and to help you be as comfortable as possible you’ll enjoy a queen-size bed, or the memory foam sofa bed we acquired from Spain that our houseguests rave about. Plus, crisp white sheets, lightweight and warm down comforters, down pillows and memory foam pillows.
TV/CABLE CHOICES: The living room sports a 50” flat screen with cable TV. There is a wall-mounted flat screen TV in the bedroom, as well, fully loaded with cable TV as well.
KITCHEN: The kitchen has been planned for efficiency. There is not a full stove, instead you will find an induction stovetop that boils water in 90 seconds, and in elegant, heavy stainless steel pots and pans by Henckel. The microwave is also a convection oven, so you can microwave something from the frozen section -- or bake a cake! There’s a dishwasher and full size refrigerator with ice maker. For hot beverages, choose between a French press, a drip coffee machine with timer, or an electric kettle to make a quick cup of tea.
FARMERS’ MARKET: The Bloomingdale Farmer’s Market on Sunday is a block away and features farm fresh veggies and wonderful vendors selling various things. Please note that the fresh pasta and handmade burratta are pretty much life changing.
PARKING: There is free parking on our street. No permit is required and there is no time limit (there are restrictions for street cleaning). You can usually find a spot right in front of the house, or within a block.
Guest Access:
From the street, you will use a private entrance to your apartment. You need to be able to navigate a few steps of stairs to enter and exit.
The key is in a lock-box for your convenience. The main lock and key are high-security and cannot be copied, so you can rest assured that there are no random copies of keys floating around.
There is an internal staircase that connects the main house to the apartment, but that door is only used as an emergency exit for you. Your privacy is ensured and respected at all times.
Other Things to Note
CHILDREN -- Please note that the apartment is not well suited for toddlers. Babies are welcome, and children ages 5 and up. The apartment has hard flooring, and an internal staircase that leads to a locked door connecting to the main house. Thank you for understanding.
As we live upstairs, we are close to hand if you need anything. You may hear our footsteps overhead, or the sound of the pitter-patter of two playful cats (who are not allowed in the downstairs apartment). We are generally quiet and there are no children above you.
The cooling and heating are controlled from the main part of the house for the whole property. We are generous with the heat and the A/C to provide comfort for all. Space heaters and fans are in the apartment for your use if you need extra heat or air movement.
This is an English basement. There are two windows on the front, and a window in the bedroom. The front door also has a window, as well as a snazzy retractable screen door if you want to keep the front door open to enjoy more light and fresh air. Given that light in lower-level apartments can be limited, we provide a wide choice of lighting so you can create a comfortable environment. The space feels really nice to be in, as you will see.
The HVAC is located in a closet in the apartment. Like all HVACs, the running motor makes sound. We mention this for those who are very sensitive to sound.

Outstanding property with clean, stylish accommodation, convenient location, and excellent hosts. Would highly recommend for a comfortable stay in DC!

We found this location and its neighborhood to be exactly what we needed for our brief stay in DC. Metro transportation was within walking distance as were a variety of restaurants.
10.0
We had a wonderful experience in Washington DC. Our vrbo was delightful. The space was clean and stylish. The tip sheet our host left us regarding many subjects was accurate and informative. The Metro subway was very convenient with a quick walk to the station. It made negotiating the city manageable.
10.0
A beautiful apartment with restaurants, the Metro and parking all very close! The host was very communicative! They responded quickly and gave great suggestions. Overall, this was an excellent place to stay. It was clean and had everything that you would need! We would definitely stay again!

It is a beautiful apartment, very comfortable, and centrally located for all interesting points of interest in the nation's capital. The owners are quite lovely and very attentive to any request or need you may have. I give a 5 star rating for this property and high recommendation for future stays. Enjoy!

This wonderful property provided a perfect place to come back to and put our feet up after long days walking around the city. Great restaurants are within walking distance, the metro is a few blocks away, and we would 100% recommend this property.

Hosts were excellent. Local information notebook - well organized and informative. We'd stay there again.

Wonderful stay. Unit was full of details that make a stay comfortable. Super clean and cozy. Great instructions book, I wish all units had this. Very convenient to public metro, we didn't drive for four days.

My friend and I had a couple days off from work so we took the train to DC to visit my son and tour the city. Our stay here was wonderful! Exceptionally clean space without clutter. Our host was super quick with responses when we reached out. Even sent a text to make sure we were comfortable. Couldn’t ask for better communication or care and concern. The bottle of sparkling water and wine were most appreciative touches. Even though it’s a lower level apartment there is plenty of lighting. And very quiet. Would love to stay here again! We enjoyed dining at Gypsy kitchen, I’d suggest you check out their website and menu for an interesting dining experience. We ordered many dishes and shared family style. Also if you like to sleuth check out the O Museum, lots of history there as you search for hidden doors. Thanks again to our gracious hosts. You provided a nice home away from home!!

This place was one of the best we've ever stayed in. Super cute, super clean well equipt and the owner was super nice. If we're ever back in DC this will be my first choice to stay.

This English basement apartment was so cute with offered amenities. Very clean, comfy and I slept very well. Kenneth was so nice and he even offered us a ride to destination, that we were all headed to. The house is on a quiet and safe street. We drove up from Florida and had no issues finding a spot to park. Just had to move sides on both street cleaning days. The 2 bus stops are right around the corner. Use caution if the one bus drops you off on 7th, while you have to walk a block to the Metro, that block is a little sketchy. Just a tip - make sure you secure all your museum timed entry tickets in advance. Including the White House, which does a back ground check and takes time to clear. We would definitely stay here again. We highly recommend!

Our family of 4 stayed in this lovely basement apartment for a spring break trip for 5 nights. We are two adults and two teenage girls. With our suitcases things were definitely a bit tight, but we managed to tuck things away well enough that we were always comfortable. The apartment does have a closet in the bedroom and a dresser with cubbies. There's not a whole lot in the vicinity of the apartment, but it's an easy 8 minute walk up R Street to the Shaw-Howard metro (green line). We spent the vast majority of our time out and about, mostly only in the apartment for a bit in the mornings and late in the evenings. With four people showering, we never ran out of hot water and the water pressure was good, which is always nice. The temperature was comfortable at all times even though the temperature outside varied a lot during our visit. We never did any cooking in the apartment but it was nice to have a coffee maker and a hot water kettle in the mornings, and a refrigerator for our leftovers. The apartment overall is very well appointed and stocked with thoughtful things like teabags, sugar, soaps, detergent, etc. The towels and linens were also very nice quality, which one does not always find! Lastly, the hosts very kindly allowed us to check in early on our first day, and then to leave our suitcases in the apartment on our last day since we had a late flight. Both were very much appreciated. Thanks Kenneth!

I decided to stay in this VRBO on my recent trip for a credit union conference. The conference hotels are overpriced in DC and it gave me a chance to get away from the conference scene when I wanted to. My husband stayed a few days and it was the perfect size for both of us. We had been traveling so it was nice to do some laundry as well. I walked to the convention center a few times but Uber/Lyft came within three minutes. I also used a Zipcar service (rent by the hour) a few times too. Clear directions for everything and great communication with the host. They live above this English basement apartment in a Row style house. Very charming! It was a great place to stay and now I have a good portion of my travel budget for the next trip.

We had a wonderful stay in DC. The apartment was perfect for the 2 of us and so easy and accessible to everything… Metro, groceries, restaurants and bars. We always felt safe walking around the neighborhood. Our hosts were great to communicate with and super helpful. The instructions were straightforward and they provided some really good recommendations. Would definitely stay here again.

Host was very responsive.
Would definitely stay again.

This was a nice place with courteous owners and a great location. We accidentally left items at the place and they were courteous enough to ship them back.

The beginning of our stay coincided with the landfall of a tropical storm to the south. We really appreciated that Kenneth took care of us when the neighborhood came under a coastal flooding warning.
Host: very nice, communication was great, very accommodating.
Apartment: as advertised. It had everything we needed.
Location: very good. A number of nice places to eat within a short walk. Not really walkable to the monuments area, but it's a fairly easy walk to the Shaw metro station and there are several bus stations in the immediate vicinity.

Scott and Ken were wonderful! They made sure my stay was comfortable and pleasant and they succeeded! Loved the Big Bear cafe! Delicious and quaint….great choice to stay here to feel like a local and disappear from the work convention crowds:)

The apartment is just as pictured. Spacious for me as a single traveler and would do well for larger groups as well. The entire apartment was spotless and the furniture and bedding were very comfortable.
As a business traveler on a longer stay, the ability to have access to a washer and dryer was great. Neighborhood is lively and there are lots of good restaurants and shops around. A bit of a walk to the Metro, but I found that bike share was a great way to get to downtown and back.
Overall a great stay, would definitely come back.

We very much enjoyed the property and location. It was comfortable, clean and offers a nicely equipped kitchen with Washer/Dryer, LR, 1-BR and Bath. Parking at the location was easy, free and once we parked we never used the car until we left. The unit is one-half mile walking distance from the Shaw-Howard Metro station; about a 12-15 minute level walk. The metro is a very inexpensive and easy way to get around the city for those that have no problem walking from stations to destinations. Tip: always carry an umbrella or poncho for those unexpected, summer rain showers when you exit the Metro. We used the owner's recommendations for a few restaurants (listed in the guest book) and they did not disappoint. There is so much to do in DC, and most of it is free, that we intend to spend many more long weekends exploring.

Great stay!
Would book again for sure.
Clean, convenient location and super easy communication with Kenneth.
Thanks!!

Great space and couple miles from National Mall. We walked back and forth for a couple days. But also an easy Metro train few blocks away will get you to most areas or a bus a block away.
Host were very communitive and checked with us a couple times to make sure we had everything we needed.
Food close by but we picked up a few things coming back to place from grocery store.
Kenneth and Scott kept a very nice place. Even when temps in town were close to 100, the space was cool.
If we come back to DC, this will be first place we check.

Owner is very responsive. Amenities are high quality. Everything you need is available!

The location of this property to everything around DC is unmatched. Communication from property owners was excellent. The unit was clean and welcoming. The only ‘issue’ I would say were the mosquitoes, gnats, and other small flying insects swarming around the outside front door entry every day. There was spray out there for them but some still made it inside whenever we opened the door. Likely a summertime issue but it didn’t ruin our stay.

This place is very comfy and clean! Was perfect for our stay in Washington. I would highly recommend staying here!

This apartment was a great place for our young family. Kenneth has provided everything you need, and the layout / furniture are efficient and comfortable. For example, the sofa bed worked great for our kids, and we had more kitchen supplies and linens than we needed. We were always able to get street parking pretty close, and the neighborhood, though urban, felt safe. I'd stay again and recommend the place to friends looking to visit DC.

We were in town for our daughter-in-law’s graduation from GW law, and this place was a perfect spot. The communication is great and Kenneth checked with us several times to make sure we were comfortable. There are so many great restaurants just a short walk away. We will definitely stay again!

Hosts are excellent! Apartment was very clean, bed was very comfortable, & the temperature was kept nice & cool. They have fans in the apartment, as well. Close walk to a restaurant with the best pizza (Bacio’s Pizzeria) & an even closer walk for breakfast/coffee/lunch at Big Bear Cafe. Will try to book again for next year. Highly recommend!

From beginning of booking to end at checkout, 100% availability with communication. Super clean, comfortable and priced perfectly! Everything I needed was readily available. Decor and furniture choices, ABSOLUTELY LOVED! Thank you for making my trip from California to DC so Wonderful! Will stay here again!!

We spent 3 nights at Kenneth’s apartment while seeing the sites. It was clean with an efficient layout, sleeping was every comfortable and the shower was great. Kenneth was friendly and responded quickly. No negatives at all. It was a pleasure and wewould book it again.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. We came to see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at DAR and it was a short Uber ride to the show (show was a couple of blocks from the White House). It took us about 30 minutes to Uber from DCA and only 13 minutes an Sunday morning without traffic. Walkable to a coffee house/restaurant/bar. Great location in my opinion.
The hosts were very gracious and welcoming. Excellent communication.
It was nice to have a home away from home. Plenty of space for my sister and I to have separate sleeping spaces. We loved having the full kitchen and bath. The apartment was thoughtfully designed and decorated. The owners left special touches which felt luxurious. We loved the down comforters.
I would stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

Ed and I came to sightsee in DC for a week. From the listing, we were expecting this place to be excellent…exceeded our expectations! Spotless, very nice decor, super comfy bed, perfectly appointed kitchen…great location for walkable restaurants and markets and public transport (we spent a total of $60 for the both of us getting around on the Metro system…felt very safe…Kenneth and Scott were super helpful and made our stay absolutely wonderful!!!

Huge shout out to Kenneth and Scott our hosts who made our vacation to DC feel like true vacation! They were extremely easy to work with, highly communicative and professional, and made sure that my fiance and I had everything we needed to have a great trip.
Their property is a wonderful little getaway in the city. It's clean, comfortable, and full of amenities (including a bottle of wine!). As someone who is very sensitive to sound and comfort while trying to sleep, I can attest that this is a very quiet neighborhood and the HVAC system they mention in their description makes next to no sound, and I can also share the bed is very comfortable.
The neighborhood this is located is also really cool. I recommend Uncaged Mimosas for their happy hour and cajun crab fries (you're welcome!) and Big Bear for their lattes and pastries. Both are less than 2 minutes away by walking.
We will be back!

In our opinion, the apartment is ideally suited for a couple. We were 2 adults and 1 child for a week and cramped a bit with luggage and pull out couch.
Pros: clean, nice decor, 10 min walk to Metro and easy to Uber, lots of restaurants nearby. It is dark in the AM so we were able to sleep in! Place has in unit laundry.
Cons: we visited mid March and it was cold! This unit is a garden unit and primarily heated by space heaters. You can hear the owners walking and it was loud at times.
