…an aerie hanging in the treetops above a lake…
From the Lakeside dock:
Truly. Toad Lake has polliwogs.
A brown duck (which?) dashes for brush-cover. Two tiny ducklings follow her. (Are they really running across the surface?) They leave spidery wakes.
Dragonflies hover, dart. Butterflies flutter, alight, open, close. Yellow Irises cluster.
A woman suns on an inner-tube. A woman swims laps. A man, standing in the lake, plays fetch-a-stick with two paddling dogs.
A kayaker. Another kayaker with a fishing rod.
On the far shore, any time of day, people are fishing. Slanting light makes colors fluorescent: blue (beach chair), orange (vest), red (SUV), all repeated upside-down in the lake surface.
Bald eagles glide high above. Another raptor (which?) soars.
Swallows (which?) are skimming.
Robins and song sparrows are singing everywhere. More birdsong. (Whose?)
Timeless northwest forest trees that taper, are mirrored on the lake’s surface as wavering blocks of modern art.
Eight Canada geese form a flotilla and head to the far shore, reconnoiter on land, then slowly make their way to the small decaying raft beside us on the pier. They nibble at the covering of green growth and then depart. The geese have left the raft unstable. Untethered, it floats slowly into the middle of the lake. And then, where?
An alligator (?) with brilliant gold eyes drifts to the middle of the lake, then hides on the far side. He is retrieved by kayak, - that thrilling, life-size, plastic alligator head that was meant to keep the geese away.
From the Dwelling:
Look down on the top-feathers of swallows (which?), turned golden in the sun.
Catch sight of two young bucks with furred stubs of antlers strolling down the driveway.
Later, read by lamplight in chairs before the fireplace. One book can be passed between the two of you to share, reading aloud.
Sleep on a queen-size perfect mattress.
Brew morning coffee and take the morning easy in

We really enjoyed our stay at the chalet. It was wonderful to be tucked into the woods with a lovely lake where we swam, kayaked and enjoyed the sn. We highly recommend staying here.

Amazing property! The house was cute and cozy with everything you need to have a great stay. The lake and water toys were nice added touch. Such an enjoyable vacation. The host was easy to communicate and went out of their why to make us comfortable! Will definitely want to come back.

The chalet was very comfortable with all the necessary conveniences. The view of the lake from the deck was fantastic. My son and I were able to welcome several visiting relatives for a relaxing visit.

It’s a lovely property and we enjoyed our stay. Cooling was a bit dicey and the coffee pot definitely needs to be replaced. But other than those minor details, we enjoyed our stay enormously. Explored Bellingham to the fullest extent and found the hikes to be fantastic!

A group of my friends decided to rent this property to celebrate our graduating high school and we had an outstanding time. It was beautiful and we couldn't have wished for a better time.

The lake is clean and warm enough to swim comfortably in. The cabin is spacious with lots of windows and modern amenities that give it a luxurious feel. Everyone enjoyed their stay! Just FYI, this is not for mobility challenged people, lots of stairs are the only way to access the cabin.

The location served as a perfect location to split the summer trip between Seattle and Vancouver. My children and wife felt it was actually the best stop we made, which included fancy hotels in the two afore-mentioned cities as well as Whistler and Victoria. The lake is remarkable with tall, forested walls on all sides of a deep, cold and very clear lake. Use of watercraft, floaties and a dock was a wonderful perk, certainly. The home was refurbished, clean and filled with nicely appointed touches that made cooking meals a pleasure. The local downtown is close and accessible, but the chalet location feels far removed. In fact, the nearby homes were not even visible unless you were out on the lake.

Thank you for sharing your cabin!
We really enjoyed the water toys provided as well as the paddle boards that we brought along.
The cabin is very quiet and right on the lake.
The kids enjoyed having the loft upstairs to themselves. The kitchen was well used and the tiny dishwasher worked overtime for our family of 6.
We spent a lot of time on the lake, but also enjoyed the proximity to restaurants and shops.
We hope to visit again.

Was a nice place. Suited our family’s needs. Beautiful setting and very peaceful.

Sticky coasters
Outside tables not clean
I’m a house cleaner… makes me wonder if it’s possible to save on the cleaning fee by doing it myself - better.
No real coffee just super old instant
Recliner needs to be replaced (very uncomfortable)
A good sharp paring knife would be nice
One very large saucepan… a small and or medium one would be good to have.
I was surprised at the price and 10/10 rating considering the age and quality of the furniture and the place itself.
Maybe 6-7… certainly not 10.
Some working binoculars would be nice
Lotion would be nice
Dishes in the cupboards are dirty (really dirty. I have a very high tolerance for dirt)
Put how to find the kayak paddles in the details… we never saw them and were told they were “outside”
Melanine dishes don’t work in the microwave.
Great games!!
Deodorant shampoo conditioner body wash… very nice.
No clean up instructions for check out … very nice
Overall I’d stay again but I think it’s over priced (mostly because it was not clean and the cleaning fee is HIGH).

This was a beautiful place to get away from everyday life. Wish I could've stayed longer!

We wanted some relaxing lake time with the family and that’s what we got!! Kayaking on the lake and relaxing on the back porch. Be aware fishing on the lake is closed from October to the end of April. We did not know there are lakes in this county that have this rule.

The property was located just across the dirt road from the lovey lake. It was too cool to swim or kayak, but we saw the outdoor gear in good condition and easily accessible. The home had very comfortable beds and plenty of seating for 6 people for a meal or evening hang outs. There were a lot of board games, puzzles and even a PacMan old style video game. I would highly recommend this place to stay.

We were in Bellingham for a wedding. The house is in a great location and the lake was a really lovely location to relax after a full day of activities. The house was well stocked, clean and attractive. The house is definitely 5 stars. Because we were there for a wedding, we had 4 adults, each with a car. Parking was challenging as a couple people had to find parking elsewhere. The stairs are tough for some seniors.

What a great home base while we moved our oldest into his apartment in town. The lake is so quiet, we were able to unwind. The house is very clean, and has everything we needed. The extras made it so great- the deck swing, pac -man console, and extra deck plus the view were amazing. We were able to cook and grill. We used the paddle boat and the dock was perfect to fish and relax. Our host was quick to respond and very sweet. Thanks so much!

The chalet is adorable and everything that you need and more. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to enjoy the kayaks, etc. and would have loved to stay another day, but those jobs get in the way!

Nice quaint location, quiet and relaxing. Great view from the top level just be prepared for all the stairs. Nice options to use either a paddle boat or kayak or just relax on you private dock. A/C worked great if needed and kitchen was nicely equipped. Great stay!

The whole family enjoyed the stay! My youngest decided they wanted it to be there house, they were very excited to be there.
The directions in the email prior to leaving were informative and the entrance process was very easy to navigate. We were met with a clean space and easy access to the grounds. Everything was as expected based on the description. There was plenty of bedding, if needed, and we were able to get through the weekend with the stocked kitchen. I was a little worried that I would have wanted to bring cookware, spices, or other items, but it was ready to go! The lake across the way, was awesome!! The only thing that surprised us was the close proximity of the guest house or other housing on the property. I was glad that I asked in-laws if they wanted to join us, so that we weren’t necessarily having to stay with other folks during our vacation.
Overall, it was a great stay and would recommend this spot as a fun lake cabin getaway!

We live in a hot and humid state and look forward to our summer break in Washington all year. Emerald Lake Chalet was everything we hoped for in terms of tranquility, beauty and convenience. We were ten minutes drive away from everything we needed, but the setting gave us a feeling of seclusion on the perfect summer lake. The stairs might give some people pause but, trust me, the view was worth it. In the sultry months that await us here in the deep south we will cherish the memories that this beautiful lake cabin in the woods afforded us.

We had a lovely time at this unique and charming lake cabin! The view is so pretty and the hosts made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. There are quite a few stairs outside to access the cabin but that was okay with us! We heard and saw so many birds, and loved sitting on the deck surrounded by trees! The

We arrived to find the chalet just as described! It was the perfect getaway and we felt that we had the whole lake to ourselves. Chalet was supplied with games and life jackets to appease our 7 year old. Also had some fun kayaking and playing Yahtzee and bird bingo there. Kitchen had supplies for easy breakfast/lunches. Views were amazing and house felt very clean. Loved the private dock, views, and household supplies such as laundry soap and shampoo/cond. Liked the fact there were 2 bathrooms. First house on the lake and had the whole end of the lake to yourself, although only 1 small trout caught in June😉
Had to buy some supplies for fishing such as tackle box/bait/hooks @ local Sportsmans Warehouse, stairs were steep and def. made us winded carrying all our stuff up, felt homey (like a grandparents cabin). Primary bedroom is small, yet sufficient.

This is our second time here and it was just as good as the first time. The location is an ideal split where you feel you are out in the wild but really only about ten mins from city amenities. The lake property is so chill and being able to use the kayaks and canoes is such a huge bonus. 5/5 highly recommend and will stay again.

This property is terrific! So charming, great location - we enjoyed canoeing, peddle boating and kayaking around the lake. The fireplace inside just added to the coziness.
It is easy to leave a great review when everything goes according to plan. We had one minor hiccup, and we received a response within 15 minutes - so very much appreciated! You can tell that the owner of this beautiful house really cares about her guests. We would stay here again in a heart beat.

We loved our stay! The lake front property has beautiful views. There was a lot provided for us to do at the property, and the town was close by. We appreciated all the attention to details. The toys and games made the stay for our little one fun and engaging. The kitchen had everything we needed. The fireplace and blankets kept us warm as we visited late November. We would gladly stay again.
