The position of this house is great and it's spacious and clean. But the lack of WiFi, no phone signal, less than comfortable mattresses, averagely-stocked kitchen and lack of add-ons mean that it's really not suitable for a family getaway. Which is strange because it's a 5-bedroom home in a village, which would suggest it's specifically aimed at families. But no cots, no high chairs (no bin bags!) and the garden is tiny and pretty much unuseable (this is pointed out in the listing). Ultimately, there's just nothing to suggest it's thinking about how a holiday for 10 people would look in it. The owner was very nice and there was okay parking. The village shop is good as is the pub directly opposite (although they only open for food Thurs-Sun). But we felt that with just a little attention to detail, this could have been a fantastic place to stay. A couple of hundred quid spent on updating and making it more welcoming, making sure there is, say, sugar in the kitchen, would be a huge boost. There was LITERALLY nothing in the cupboards when we arrived, which is weird for a holiday home. And while being off-grid is good up-to-a-point and especially if you are going there as a group of adults, it really doesn't work with young children. It also means it's almost impossible to organise anything from the home itself like trips out, or a takeaway. We won't be returning unless it's upgraded, but I want to re-iterate that it would take very little for this to be turned into a first-rate holiday home.

A comfortable house with friendly helpful owner.
A comfortable house with friendly helpful owner.
A comfortable house with friendly helpful owner. Although the garden is small, the village hall, 5 minutes walk, has a good playground and playing fields . We were prepared for lack of house WiFi but hadn’t anticipated the very poor signal for various networks our parties mobiles used. Consequently we were limited to intermittent use of the internet, making and receiving texts etc. Additionally TV also had very poor signal and was therefore unwatchable, bring DVDs . A reasonably resourced kitchen was provided. Good location to explore Somerset. We would stay there again.
